AN ALL-OUT ALL-FLIGHT EVENT
FINISHED AND CLOSED.

"This is no place for a Gruyère on fire."

It is autumn now, and if Earthshaker is to stand continuous guard at the Pillar over the long winter that is soon to come, he must enter the season of ice and hardship with a belly full of nutritious food and drink. The meager scraps that can be scraped out of the chilly ground in the darkest months will barely provide enough energy for mortal dragons, let alone a great and ancient deity!

Because Earthshaker cannot leave his post, it falls to loyal Earth dragons to volunteer to harvest the bounties of the land and bring them to him. They must trust their friends and family to work hard in their absence, for all the food they find must be brought to the Pillar instead of their own clans. It is a perilous journey filled with betrayal and heartbreak, and every dragon who makes the attempt earns honor and glory beyond measure (and at least one prize)... but only one dragon will manage to climb to the very top and make the delivery.

Will it be yours?

Each time, the first 12 players to fully sign up--no "claim" posts!--will earn a slot, for a total of 24 players. Anyone past the cutoff point will be told to try again on the next call. Unfilled morning slots, if any exist, will be added to the evening total. I will begin the game roughly 24 hours after the morning call, even if we don't have a full set of players. Please use the signup form in the Forms post. Players can be from any flight, but they must sign up with an Earth-eyed dragon. Signup posts using dragons without Earth eyes won't count! If you don't have one, buy a cheap one off the AH. You can always exalt them after it's over. No permababies or hatchlings. I don't want to write them getting injured. HOW'S IT WORK? As soon as a Hungry Game starts, I will run an entire simulation and copy the results in secret so I know how often to space out my updates. This is a humorous, food-based take on the Hunger Games, so no dragons will get killed, but they will get mildly to moderately injured and knocked out of the game in various ways. I will be modifying the simulator's results to match the theme, so that the content is different but the outcome is not. Example: If the simulator says someone is blinded by a sword slash to the eyes, they might get squirted in the eyes by a huge grapefruit and become unable to see. SIGNUP PROCESS

The day the event opens, I'll make two announcements, one in the day and once at night.

A Hungry Game will end when there is only one dragon left and I have made a results post declaring them the winner.

BASE PRIZES

Each of the first six losers may ask for any one item up to 10kt in LAH value.
Each of the second six losers may ask for any one item up to 20kt in LAH value.
Each of the third six losers may ask for any one item up to 30kt in LAH value.
The next three losers may each ask for any one item up to 50kt in LAH value.
The next two losers may each ask for any one item up to 75kt in LAH value.
The winner may ask for any one item up to 100kt in LAH value.

Nothing only listed on the AH for gems, and not something you're selling. Prize values may change based on modifiers. See Special Game Mechanics for more info.

ROLEPLAYING

Please keep the theme modification in mind; this is essentially a massive cafeteria brawl on a giant farm/supermarket, not a slaughterhouse. Nor is it a Tarantino movie, so keep the language PG.

Still in the games? RP threads or self-contained reactions based around posted results are encouraged, but not required, as they spice things up a bit for everyone participating and watching. I may have to foil plots if the results demand it, and they might go up faster than complex threads can be completed, so try not to get too wrapped up in a single thing!

Got knocked out and want to continue roleplaying? You have been escorted to a first aid station by Peleides the medic. You may listen to the Hungry Games broadcast on the radio, talk to the volunteers or other disqualified players, call home, etc. You are unable to contact active players.

Didn't get to join this game but still want to roleplay? Congratulations! Either you're listening/viewing from home or you're a volunteer at the first aid station... even if you don't know which side of a band-aid is down. You can do the same things a knocked out player can do. You are unable to contact active players.

MORE GAMES?

I am running a second round! It has already begun.
I will not be running a third game. Apologies!

I will remove these if people abuse them, don't follow the rules, or act like sore losers. Please don't force me to do that. These help make the game more exciting and unpredictable for you.

SPECTATOR GIFTS

Want to send a Spectator Gift? You must include at least two separate types of items, which do not have to be of equal value, and you must actually own the items. You must secretly deliver these to me by PM, not by CR, using the correct form from the Forms post.

Do not mention the contents in public. Do not mention who they're for (or not for). Don't tell someone to tell someone to tell a player. No hints, no cheering when you see yours go up, no telling people who to steal from. None of that, and nothing that otherwise gets around the spirit of these rules. Do any of those things and I will return your Spectator Gifts and refuse any future ones from you. I am not offering second chances on this.

No Spectator Gifts will be returned because of regret or accidental item inclusion. No new Spectator Gifts may be sent to a dragon that is already out of play. I will be keeping Spectator Gift donors anonymous to ward off any bothering that might otherwise happen to them.

Spectator Gifts will all be vaguely described at the beginning of the next result post after their arrival. I will not mention who sent them or who initially received them. I will be keeping secret inventories for each dragon. Spectator Gifts will be delivered to whoever owns them at the end of the game, alongside the regular prizes.

Please note that your target dragon may not be the one who gets what you sent in once the game is done. If you are uncomfortable with that idea, do not send in a Spectator Gift. Why? Because Spectator Gifts are an integral part of...

LOOTING

Each player only gets to make one attempt to steal Spectator Gifts from a knocked out dragon during the course of a game. (Yes, this means not every dragon will get a chance to Loot someone, so choose your timing and targets wisely.) Each knocked out dragon can only be stolen from once; first come, first served. You must write a message stating that you are Looting a dragon and identifying which one, and post it to the thread.

If someone steals from a knocked out dragon with Spectator Gifts, half those Spectator Gifts will become theirs. The items they get are decided by RNG. Should the knocked out dragon only possess one item, its owner will be decided by RNG.

If a player steals from a knocked out dragon who was already stolen from, or if the knocked out dragon does not have any Spectator Gifts, half of the would-be thief's Spectator Gifts will fall out of their bags and become the property of the knocked out dragon. Which items are lost will be decided by RNG. Should the would-be thief only possess one item, its owner will be decided by RNG.

If neither the knocked out dragon nor the one trying to steal from them have any Spectator Gifts, the RNG will decide which one of the other players laughs at them.

The only other things that can change this set of rules are the...

PRIZE MODIFIERS

Certain outcomes in the simulator have a chance of adjusting your prize value upward or downward. Only a player's first positive and/or first negative will apply. Any subsequent boosts or drops will be changed into failed events.

  • Received a hatchet? You accidentally split an offering bag.
    -10% base prize value
  • Received clean water? You can work longer under the hot sun.
    +10% base prize value
  • Received an explosive? That was a stick of TNT, not a carrot.
    -20% base prize value
  • Received food? Oh, wow! This puts you ahead of the pack.
    +20% base prize value
  • Willingly knocked yourself out? Your items go scattering when you fall.
-Lose an extra Spectator Gift item if looted. If you only have one, you can't keep it. If you don't have any, this doesn't matter.
  • Received medical supplies? You'll retain your grip on knockout.
+Keep an extra Spectator Gift item if looted. If you only have one, the thief will fail. If you don't have any, this doesn't matter.

ITEMS BEING SENT: List the items here; must include at least two separate types of object. (I know I'm going to see them anyway. This list is for your benefit, so you can make sure you've got all the right things and aren't accidentally sending in a Fire Sprite. Unless you want to send in a Fire Sprite. Whoever ended up with that would be one happy player, I'll tell you that much.

#1 - THE BANANA BUNCH

The Banana Bunch are all about juicy secrets, and are always happy to gossip share, although the story may have morphed since the last time they told it. They're a zesty lot, and nearly always have pasts as colorful as their favorite food. Combine that with their tendency to gather in groups and you've got one entertaining night ahead. The party is here, and it's all them.

Real shame about their unreliability. They'll be there as long as you don't need them, but the second you make a big deal about wanting their company? Bam! They've gone. That's all right, though. They'll drop in on you once more when the winds of change begin to blow.

Just pray you didn't get turned into one of their stories while they were away...

#2 - GREEN VEGETABLES

Dragons from this food group just love green things. They also don't like to see anyone suffer and will readily use their vast array of knowledge to support others. There's a plant out there for most problems, and they can probably name it. Did you know rubber trees make it safe to walk in Lightning territory! Isn't that amazing?

Trouble is, a handful of them are... well. Poison Ivy would like them. A few decades ago, a Green Vegetable poised to win went totally rogue and burned all the collected food just before reaching the top of the Pillar, causing a flightwide emergency.

Naturally, this put a major dent in their reputation, inspiring widespread bitterness. Many dragons find them unpleasant and prefer to avoid them. Those who stick around soon learn that most do still make good friends.

#3 - THE GRAIN TRAIN

For those who consider themselves loyal to this food group, adaptability is key. There's next to no situation they'll choose to run from; some of them could even thrive in a flood, of all things. They'll do their best to stick it out wherever they are, whatever that means.

Which can, in fact, be a problem all its own. Some of them may come to mistakenly see themselves as an invaluable player in a group that does not want them and refuse to leave. Those deepest in denial may even claim to be able to do fantastic, impossible things.

Most of them, however, go on to become well-respected ancients with a solid repertoire of tricks under their belt, and are welcome nearly anywhere they go.

#4 - THE WILD CARNI-VAL

The hunters of The Wild Carni-val have exactly one thing on their minds: fresh meat. The entire world is prey, and they are the predators. Everything they want, they will get, no matter how long it takes--or else they will just about die trying. Some can be social instead of isolated or solitary types, but they'll generally keep their company restricted to others like themselves.

The only exceptions are when they want something from someone who falls outside the boundaries. If it's a useful service that would benefit them if it happened on a regular basis, they'll treat the outsider with begrudging tolerance and stiff but polite manners. Anything else, and that other dragon might as well be see-through for all they'll matter afterward.

#6 - SWEET TREATS

Syrupy sweet and cute almost to a fault, this bunch has all the external appeal and then some. Everyone wants to be their best friend.

But unlike the Dairy Delights, Sweet Treat dragons have empty hearts, and the decay is very, very contagious. This is the group that says "kill them with kindness" and means it. They invite dragons who can't afford anything on the menu to pricey dinners. They'll fawn over your muscles while lacing your 50lb sacks of flour with weevils. #7 - SUPERBERRIES

Ever meet a dragon who piles on accomplishments like sweaters in a blizzard and has more connections than an ISP? That's a Superberry.

These dragons are either uninterested in deep friendships or don't have time, which makes it hard to tell what they're really like under all those trophies and awards. #8 - SEEDS OF CHANGE

Seeds of Change are unpredictable, burning with hunger for brand new experiences. The whole world is out there! They've got to try it all!

Friendships tend to be intense but brief; they may be close one moment and jump ship the next. They'll dip their paws into 20 projects at once before settling on two that look promising. Dragons thriving in a variety of unusual or overlooked spaces tend to join this group. Maybe they're determined to grow a pine tree in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Could be a Light dragon with a love of deep, dark caverns. How about a Snapper who takes power naps?

Oh, sure, there are always those Broken Molds who like to tear things down rather than build them up, or who pop up where they're not welcome and poison their surroundings. ================ As you make your way over, a crow bursts out of one of the pumpkins that decorate the area.

"Check out my pumpkin! Ain't it the best pumpkin you ever seen? Found it just for Earthshaker. ...I'm sure he won't mind some feathers, right? I was actually going to head on home, but this game seemed like so much fun!"

You give the bird a leer. You don't feel like arguing with any more birds today.

"......Alright, well, will you go on ahead and send word to Corey? My last friend is in her lair somewhere. I'll go back to Corey now. Good luck finding my friend!"
