Rays of sunlight occasionally dance through the towering jungle trees as they sway with the inconsistent breeze. The day is warm and uncomfortably humid for those not accustomed to the Viridian Labyrinth, yet it does not deter the locals, who have made their homes within it, from their daily tasks. Hatchling laughter echoes down a modest stream, an eerie fable whispers into perked ears, and an odd sort of metal bauble harvests berries off a nearby trailing plant.
A spritely dragon perches on a weathered bench bordering a crude, dirt path. She scribbles on a scrap of parchment with such fervor, hardly taking notice of any passerby who may be interested in her as she works. A thick tome has been placed open-faced next to her and an inquiry about it leads to an uninterested response on her part. She explains that it is available for viewing at leisure as she is currently working on a separate section that has not yet been incorporated.

The Knotty Narratives
Lore from the Diamond Rooks Sanctuary
It reads as follows:
"

Please note as of 12/14/2022:

FAQs & Notes
A much required source for answers, credits, and other inquiries

Random credits, first and foremost:
- Formatting inspiration for this tome comes from Disillusionist's lore thread. The way she organized her thoughts and 'Contents' was extremely practical.
You can find it here: The Tower of Drabel.
- Poisonedpaper's Art Assets
- Some of my lore also references key phrases from the wonderful book series, "Dinotopia", created by author and illustrator James Gurney. This series is brilliant and allows a wonderful crossover between both dragon and dinosaur. If you have not read any of the books, I strongly urge you to do so ♥
- Maps are made via: https://inkarnate.com
Will this ever be finished?
- Nope! Like all things in Nature, it is ever changing. Even if this appears dead, it is most likely that I've got some sort of lore sitting on the backburner. As such, this tome is a constant work in progress so please bear that in mind as you sift through it.
Can my clan ally with the Diamond Rooks?
- At this time, we are only forming alliances with close friends as to not overburden ourselves with a bunch of new lore. Sorry!
Do you have a pinglist for new updates?
- No, but thank you for being so interested in the Rooks! I suggest subscribing to this thread instead. This hefty tome is to help me keep track of the ever growing sanctuary. I am forgetful and cannot be tasked with more responsibility, sorry!
What does the "(new!)" mean in the Chapters section?
- This just means that it was the latest Chapter to have been edited. There is new content available. It stays there until another chapter gets updated.
I have a question that is not listed here!
- No problem! You can either send our clan a direct message, or you can reply within here. (:

For ease of viewing, the expansive roots of the Behemoth and the much larger trees that tower over the landscape and mask the village from the sky have been removed from the map.
You will find the sanctuary mainly on the southern side of the jungle floor within the roots of the Behemoth in the Viridian Labyrinth. The fauna in this area is densely packed which helps keep the clan undisturbed. While the Trading Post can be a means of trade and barter for dragons residing within the clan, most will just head upwards into Gladebough Village for ease.

Life in this part of the jungle has adapted to two seasons - the season of rainfall and the season of slightly less rainfall. These "dry" seasons still consist of sporadic, light rain showers during the day, but are accompanied by excessive heat. This draws many dragons out to the Worldedge Wetlands or to the waterway from the Gladeveins in attempts to cool off. Smaller local ponds and lakes will still dry up during these seasons since rainfall is not as fierce. Evening temperatures drop substantially and offer a welcome reprieve, especially to those with downy coats.
How can an outsider tell when it switches to the wet season? Water levels will rise, many caves flood, ponds and lakes return to the scenery, and seasonal rivers are much more commonplace. Jungle flora takes the stage during these periods and the forest erupts in a beautiful display of color and life. There are downpours of rainfall almost every day for many passing moons. While the jungle is never cold per se, temperatures will be far cooler and much more manageable. The humidity, however, is always terrible, regardless of the season.

Culture, Society, & Economy
How to fit in with the locals
--
Notes to be included for Culture:
- Largely peaceful and accepting dwellers, especially towards outsiders.
- Simple, technology wise, save for a small handful of outliers.
- Their homes and shops are generally made from living vines that have been woven together with clay, fallen wood, and decayed fauna to create intimate alcoves that blend perfectly into their surrounding environment, creating as little damage as possible to the Great Behemoth and its surrounding jungle. This is an extremely important practice.
- Smaller dragons, such as veilspuns and Faes, will use high altitude, pre-existing tree hollows as dens, adorning the outside with dangling trinkets.
- Much of the territory is protected from rainfall by the Behemoth's exposed roots. Cloth canopies are erected above the more traversed and uncovered areas to help provide protections from rainfall, though most dragons choose to create an impenetrable aura around them to stay dry during the heavier season.
- The Gladekeeper is heavily honored, though celebrations are hosted for the other deities as well, along with whatever bizarre festivals and holidays Visalia decides to decorate the town square for (for instance, coffee day).
Notes to be included about Society:
- Societal life among the Sanctuary is largely democratic. When making important decisions or large changes to the village layout, the denizens (the ones that care, anyway) will come together to discuss the best course of action for whatever needs discussed.
- The two head dragons, Feredir and Gweyr, were appointed their positions by the elder when he opted to step down. No one has disputed their reign as they are both just and beloved. They seek to form understanding and companionship among the various residents and allow everyone to have a voice in any discussion.
- Many offspring will choose to train and serve the respective deity of their choosing (exaltation as it were). Others decide to travel or find more permanent homes among other clans. Very few choose to reside within the Sanctuary.
- "Eternal Hatchlings" do not exist in DRS lore. Period. Any hatchlings residing within the lair with such a title are simply considered to be part of the normal, current hatchlings unless otherwise stated.
Notes to be included about Economy:
- Much of the clan's treasure is funded from training in the realm's coliseum. There are specialized gladiators who will participate and bring back any winnings and loot, to be split across the entire settlement.
- Within the Sanctuary, currency is generally unused. Most dragons offer their services at no cost and instead will come together as a community to help others when needed. It is widely accepted that everyone will need everyone's help at some point, so why bother?
- Most treasure is stashed away in a single giant hoard, maintained and watched over by Beira. When someone is in need of currency for an upcoming expedition or tour to another clan, they are given whatever funds necessary for their adventure. Trips are rarely questioned or unfunded.
- Many residents will travel across Sorneith to ally clans to trade goods or knowledge. This is a common practice.
