Fiend was the eldest of the Diamond Rooks, yet he was far from being considered the wisest. Though he had a tendency to get himself into trouble, it was not the kind in which most would expect. He had mastered the art of breaking curses at a young age and was more often than not found caught up in some sort of magical mess. He wouldn't have it any other way. If someone was out on a treasure looting adventure, Fiend was undoubtedly accompanying them. Treasures were usually tucked away behind some sort of adverse curse, so his expertise made him the perfect assistant. Fiend much preferred the friendships of Bones and Fala. Fala, being a Pearlcatcher herself, made for easy rapport as the two could gossip together for hours. He also found it quite fun to witness all of her alchemy mishaps, even if it did accidentally land him an extra set of fluffy wings which he had no control over. They did at least look nice. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Bones made for pleasant, peaceful company and his necromancy was a trait which Fiend could admire. His time spent with friends was slightly interrupted by the addition of Ferine, a Wildclaw who immediately took to him and his pearl. Her presence annoyed him at first. However, as time went on, Fiend found himself spending less and less time away from her by his own choosing and the two eventually became bound to one another.
---
Against the Currents Fiend grew up within the comforts of the Zephyr Steppes, grasping his ability to fly at a much younger age than most others outside of the Windswept Plateau. Although he was able to take to the sky, the strength of his wings were incomparable to those of a flexible Spiral. Once matured, the time came to test his power against the strong air currents of the Reedcleft Ascent, as is customary for dragons born in this region. He struggled greatly, scratching and clawing against the reed covered pillars in an attempt to make headway, but to no avail. And then he saw it. Down below in a small crack between the pillars there appeared to be an opening leading straight through the middle of the colossal colonnade. He dove down in a frenzy, eager to accomplish the task at hand, but was instead greeted by a magical barrier - a curse to block those who may find themselves tempted to cheat the breezes above. Fiend was undeterred. He worked with what little magic he knew for days until he was finally able to break the curse and move forward. Each new area he discovered during his journey was hidden behind another set of curses, each one more difficult than the last to break, until finally he found himself gliding freely towards the reed balconies of the Cloudsong. He had managed to master not his flight, but his magic. Instead of taking up refuge among those who could dance with the zephyrs in the sky, he departed from his homeland in search of a habitat which would better suit his set of skills. |
