You’ve gotten past the initial steps of picking your Flight, creating/acquiring your progenitor dragons, and finding this guide in the Forums. You’ve made it far by yourself! F.A.Q. & Way Too Much Information
A lot of guides on Flight Rising are just so much information all at once. That’s certainly how I felt when jumping into everything, I was just so excited at the pretty dragons and awesome art, I had no idea what anything meant or how it worked! Hopefully this guide is a little bit easier to consume, acting more as a hub for information, a jumping off point, than something that you have to read through sixty posts about stuff that you just don’t understand at all. But first, let's start with the basics.

The Official F.A.Q.
Linked here is the official FAQ of Flight Rising. It goes over general gameplay, a few terms like “rollover”, and how to submit a ticket if something is wrong with your account. This is a great read to have a rudimentary understanding of how the site and game works, and what to do if you find a bug, or lose something for your account.
__ __ Fun fact, even the Official FAQ is technically not up-to-date anymore. It was last updated in 2015 as of writing this. I won't go into all of the details that aren't exactly right, since many of them are negligible, but know that some information may differ!

The Unofficial F.A.Q.
Though this guide isn't made by any of the creators of Flight Rising, Naeryl's FAQs & Answers over on the Help Center (which is one of the first pinned threads over there) is updated regularly and covers everything you need to know. Breeding your dragons, lair upgrades, explaining what Dominance is and exalting your dragon, and the difference between the currencies - and many more! This is a great place to start you off on learning all the terminology used around here, as well as the basic mechanics of the game.

Site Rules & Terms of Service
Every site has Rules and Terms of Service. Flight Rising is no different. If you haven’t checked out those, please do! It’s important to understand what is and isn’t allowed on the site before you really start to get into it. It’s never any fun when you get excited about something, only to learn that you’re not allowed to behave in certain ways. Of course, rules are for the benefit of everyone, you included - please follow them!

Which Waystone
The Which Waystone is a site-implemented feature that is meant to show you the generic in’s and out’s of the site! Daily tasks, slightly more advanced activities, and all that. It can be located on the bottom right of your screen; it looks like a rock with glyphs and it glows when you hover over it! You can also find it under the Library section on the left side of your screen. This is a great tool to help you navigate throughout Flight Rising without having to know exactly where to go.

Lingo & Abbreviation
Some of the abbreviations and lingo here on the site are not always straightforward; the guide that makes the most sense is FR Abbreviations by SilverDeath. It covers near-everything, including inside jokes and coliseum information that typically goes by unnoticed and unexplained. Though, if you’re ever confused by anything, if you ask someone, it’s very likely they’ll respond to let you know!

Of course, this is an extremely rudimentary understanding of the game. The site rules, the policies, understanding the language. If you want to know about how to navigate the site, using badthings' The Guide of Guides will explain the side bar (there on the left), as well as some of the things that we'll go over in this guide, linking you to resources and threads!

But, there are other ways that you can consistently collect gems as well. Keeping your dragons [b]well-fed[/b] (at or above 80% clan energy) for over 3 days will net you a bonus that gives you 1 gem per day, as well as 5 more gathering turns, 250 treasure, and 15% bonus experience when training in the Coliseum. Keeping your dragons happy and un-hungry is overall a great way to just stay active on FR, too! You can also get a small amount of gems (1-3) each time that you get an Achievement or finish a Monthly Pursuit. Playing the game as normal can get you these achievements (such as, having a certain amount of dragons in your lair, or even having one of each element in your lair). The Pursuits are usually specific things you have to do over a period of time, but it does keep you coming back every day; think "Heading to Pinkerton's Plundered Pile 12 times", something you can only do once a day. Another way to get gems is to buy them off of other players; going to the Forums or your local Discord Server (there is no official Discord Server as of writing this, but you can find all sorts of different Flight servers here at [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/2517049][i]The Ultimate Flight Guide v3[/i][/url] by Fennelroot) and ask about trading treasure for gems. The typical ratio is 1 gem to 1000 treasure, but sometimes that will change depending on the prices on the Auction House. Thankfully, and according to many different threads of economy majors and just well-versed individuals, Flight Rising has a very stable economy when it comes to gem or treasure prices. There will be booms and falls, like anything, due to supply and demand (ie. when a Flight is pushing for dominance, dragons on the Auction House might be getting more and more pricey, so watch out for that), but otherwise will usually fall back to that 1:1000 ratio that we mentioned before. [indent][emoji=book size=1] [b][size=4][u]How to Get More Dragons[/u][/size][/b][/indent] Now, this one's relatively simple. I won't go into that, since that's as simple as buying some tickets and getting randomly picked.[/i][/size][/columns] You're encouraged (and often tempted) at the beginning of the game to breed your progenitor dragons together at the Nesting Grounds; sometimes, this can make some really silly color combinations, so some people don't even bother. Either are completely fine options. If you do happen to breed two dragons together - your progenitors, or other dragons you've acquired - then be sure to check back each day to incubate your dragons' eggs in the Nesting Grounds. The nest will be ready to hatch the day after the fifth incubation. After that, your dragons will grow up over the course of 5 days all on their own! Ta-dah, new dragons! Just be aware that the two dragons that you bred have a [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?p=wiki&article=17]Breeding Cooldown[/url], so they won't be able to breed again for a period of time depending on the kind of dragon they are (up to 35 days at the longest for the rare breeds of dragons). You can also buy dragons from the Auction House or on the Forums (more on that on the next post) - at this point, you're buying dragons from other players. Use some of that money you've been making to buy different types of dragons! Lastly, trading dragons can be extremely useful. Sometimes, people will give away certain dragons for free, especially to newbies, and will advertise that to you in the forums or in Discord servers. [b]Please[/b] be aware that not everyone is willing to give you dragons for free, so don't go asking everyone for freebies just because you're new! ----- Alright, so we understand what to do every day to keep up coming back for more. That's fun in itself - tedium is the name of the game. (Well, no the name of the game is Flight Rising, but...) But there are many, many more things that we can do to make Flight Rising even more fun! How to Basic
If you haven’t already checked out the Which Waystone, that will tell you the majority of what to do on a daily basis: feed your dragons, bond with your familiars, gather your items, etc. But what do you do first? How do you know what to gather? What dragon eats what?! How do you know all the answers to Tomo’s Trivia Tablet if you’ve only been here one day?!?! Never fear, dear sapling, Uru has you covered.

Daily Chores
There’s no real comprehensive list of “what to do on a daily basis” other than things that refresh on rollover, but here's a small list of things that you can do once per day at any point:

___ > Use your Gathering Turns
> Bond with your Familiars (on your dragons & Fiona's Familiars)
> Incubate your Nests
> Answer Tomo’s Trivia Tablet questions (link here)
> Get a free item from Pinkerton’s Plundered Pile
> Muster resources & use them at Arlo's Ancient Artifacts
> Get up to 75,000 treasure from playing games at the Fairgrounds
> Do your Daily Pursuits, or work on your Weekly/Monthly Pursuits

How To: Food! by Whalesong is a great place to start to understand how to feed your dragons efficiently, and where you can gather these items from; you have 10 gathering turns that you can use every day, so use them the best way you can! While you’re at it, Efficient Familiar Bonding by CrimsonCatalyst, though a little bit outdated since FR recently (as of posting) has updated their layout in the Lair, still holds the most fundamental understanding of how to bond with your familiars quickly and easily. (Remember to also bond with the familiars at Fiona’s Fantastic Familiars, found in the Trading Post for more bonuses for familiars you don’t even have yet!)
__ __ Optionally, melting something down at the Baldwin’s Bubbling Brew found in the Trading Post would get you a head start on leveling up that skill. You can create festival skins, apparel, familiars, or festival currency here later on. Melt down things like Squirrel Skulls, Bone Fragments, or just things that you have a surplus of, so that you don’t accidentally melt anything down that’s valuable!

Working on your Pursuits and Achievements will also get you a special currency called Achievement Tokens that you can use in the Grand Exchange's Acclaimed Achievements Association, run by Avery the Wildclaw. You can get special Vistas, Scenes, and even Genes with these tokens!

How to Get Treasure
Treasure is a sitewide currency that is used most often. You can get this by doing things like bonding with your familiars (seen above), opening chests, selling items or dragons either from your Hoard (items only) or on the Auction House, or playing games at the Fairgrounds! The Data-Based Money Making Guide by Paladingineer is a great resource to keep handy for learning how to make the most money from your favorite Fairgrounds games or by selling; but by far the fastest way to make money every day is via the G&G Very Hard Ultimate Solver guide by sQld, where you can make up to 75,000 treasure every day in less than an hour!
__ __ Before buying anything on the Marketplace, check the Auction House first. Sometimes, it can be 10x cheaper on the Auction House due to supply and demand; a lot of familiars are that way because they can drop in the Coliseum, where people gather food or train dragons.

How to Get Gems
The easiest way to make gems is to buy them - that’s right, with your real-life currency. But, there are other ways that you can consistently collect gems as well. Keeping your dragons well-fed (at or above 80% clan energy) for over 3 days will net you a bonus that gives you 1 gem per day, as well as 5 more gathering turns, 250 treasure, and 15% bonus experience when training in the Coliseum. Keeping your dragons happy and un-hungry is overall a great way to just stay active on FR, too!

Another way to get gems is to buy them off of other players; going to the Forums or your local Discord Server (there is no official Discord Server as of writing this, but you can find all sorts of different Flight servers here at The Ultimate Flight Guide v3 by Fennelroot) and ask about trading treasure for gems. The typical ratio is 1 gem to 1000 treasure, but sometimes that will change depending on the prices on the Auction House.

How to Get More Dragons
Now, this one's relatively simple. There are three ways you can get dragons - from trading with other players, by buying them, or by breeding your own dragons.
__ __ You can also technically get some specialty, pre-gened dragons from Roundsey's Raffle Roulette in the Trading Post. I won't go into that, since that's as simple as buying some tickets and getting randomly picked.

You're encouraged (and often tempted) at the beginning of the game to breed your progenitor dragons together at the Nesting Grounds; sometimes, this can make some really silly color combinations, so some people don't even bother. Either are completely fine options. If you do happen to breed two dragons together - your progenitors, or other dragons you've acquired - then be sure to check back each day to incubate your dragons' eggs in the Nesting Grounds. How to Intermediate
We’re getting a little bit more into it, now, you know what I mean when I say "AH prices" or "Tomo’s Trivia!" But now, let’s jump in a little bit deeper and start figuring out what we actually like to do on the site, and how people have started to make it such an interesting game to come back to again and again.

Forums
My personal favorite, the forums are a great way to start involving yourself more in the rich and abundant community thriving within Flight Rising. I won’t go over all of the different forum types, but the ones that I’ll suggest you go through are these:
___ > Dragon Share (for Apparel ideas, gene ideas, and more)
> Raffles & Auctions (a great way to get older gear or rare familiars)
> General Discussion (for talking about all your favorite things)
> Forum Games (as the tin says)
> Creative Corner (for all of your artist needs)

BBCode
You’ve probably seen this before, and if you’re familiar with it, feel free to skip to the guides that I’m linking below. BBCode is the coding mechanism used on the FR forums, signatures, bios, and more to make your posts look pretty. It uses box brackets ([]) instead of angle brackets (<>) and, in my opinion, is a little easier to use. Here are some guides to help you get started on how to use BBCode on Flight Rising, and some resources that you can find around FR:
___ > [Guide] BBCode by aisumoka
> FR Image Assets by Starrlight
> [Resource] Animated Coli Enemies by Myndris
> Free To Use Battle Images by Phoenix447
> Free to use banners and icons (Dragon Bio) by osiem

So many people are very, very good at this here on this site, and they offer up these codes for anyone to use a lot of the time. Take advantage of these resources, just remember to cite the creators so others can find these resources, too!

Lore & Writing
Writing a backstory for your dragons is always a little difficult when you don’t know the whole story. Good thing that Flight Rising gave us a whole world to play with! Sornieth has a complex and lovely background of how the deities came to be, when they arrived, why they are the way they are, etc. The Encyclopedia has for information on the story behind the world, but for a more digestable experience, Wrenn's Canon Lore Compendium is the way to go, with a step-by-step, post-by-post approach rather than having to click through all of the Lorebooks! Here are some more useful threads and guides that I found that might help you with your lore experience:
___ > [Guide] Lore Clans by Demesne
> [LORE] Dragon Variants by Flight by SunnyToxicBunny
> How do you go about writing lore? (thread)

Of course, you don’t have to stick with just the lore here in Sornieth, you can always branch off to do your own thing, like many have. Just remember to stick to the rules of what is and isn’t allowed here on the site so that you don’t get in trouble.

Coliseum (Easy Mode)
The coliseum is an in-game turn-based battling mode where your dragons (yes, yours!) can go up against unique and amazing creatures around Sornieth. You’ll start out in the Training Fields, where you’ll battle against Miths, Webwings, Pocketmice and more; you’ll be able to collect food like Frosted Violets (plants), Silverfish (insects), or materials like Firestarters or Bluelight Chipskink Tails where you can either Hoard Sell them or brew them down at Baldwin’s for other materials.

This is a great way to start getting mass amounts of food, as well as new familiars! The creatures you battle, even the hard ones like Bosses, can sometimes drop into your inventory! Start out easy, just level up your dragon’s Strength when it levels up and head to the next few areas - don’t worry about battle stones quite yet, until you get to about Level 5. Those things can get really expensive.

If you want to get more in depth with the Coliseum, head into the Advanced tab.

Collecting
Gathering items that you like the look of can just be fun. Pretty rocks, pretty flowers, certain familiars or apparel items, or dragons that look a certain way or have a certain color combo can really just make the game a little bit more fun. Look into things that you’re interested in, especially dragons of specific color combos, because later on down the line, you might be able to breed them together to make more, similar-colored babies that others also might want to snatch up..!

Festivals (Part One)
And last but not least on our Intermediate list is the Elemental Holidays. The last week of a month, starting on Sunday at rollover and ending on the following Sunday, January through November, is an Elemental Holiday run by Flight Rising itself. Holiday Currency is used to buy certain things from the Festive Favors, found under the Shop section on the directory on the left. You can get this Holiday Currency from doing just about anything - bonding with your familiars, trading with Crim, and gathering items; it also can be crafted in certain amounts at Baldwin’s Brewery at certain levels, and it can drop while fighting things in the Coliseum (here’s a handy chart, Maki’s Festival Coliseum Guide to help you figure out where to farm to get the most currency per hour). You can find a lot of this information in more depth at Festival Guide by Kiena, though it hasn’t been updated since 2017. Any and all Apparel items for the Festivals can be found at this post at Eclipse’s Apparel Catalogue which has been routinely updated since 2017!

Of course, all of these things are completely optional. No harm, no foul if you don’t want to participate in the ways I’m suggesting!

How to Advanced
Now we’re playing hardball. You’ve figured out what you like to do, you’ve been around for a minute, you want to get more involved. Heck yeah! We’re all for it! But where do you even start? How does everyone know where everything is? Where does it get posted? What the heck is a Profit Push?! Deep breath, we’ll start simple...

Art Sales
If you’re an artist, or like messing around in MS Paint, making gifs, coding - really, anything - then your art is probably wanted. Perusing the Discord servers for different types of art, as well as the Art Forums, can really get you started on how to get started making your art more accessible - and maybe even making a new source of income! Kotomi’s Guide to the Art Forums is a great read, going over how to present your art in an appealing manner, as well as how to price your art!

Breeding Projects
Now, this is a little deep even for me - but Breeding Projects are one of Flight Rising’s most popular Things to Do™ - there are a few different ways to do Breeding Projects, though the best way to figure out how to get your perfect dragon through breeding would be Ganodorf’s Breeding Guide, which shows you step-by-step how to do things like the Pyramid method or the Line method, and figuring out costs and resources that you can choose from!

Hatcheries
Perhaps you have two really lovely dragons - or many, if you’ve been collecting XXY’s of the same variety, or certain genes - and you keep getting requests for “if these two have a baby, can I have one?” Then you’re already at step one of making a hatchery! So You Want to Start a Hatchery 2 by SaltWizard gets to the nitty gritty and asks the hard questions - are you willing to stick to a strict breeding regiment? Talk to a bunch of people? Code a whole thread? This is a huge responsibility, but if you think you’re up for it, there are many different resources in this thread to help you along!

Baldwin's Bubbling Brew
Ahh, Baldwin. Our Pearlcatcher-turned-Bogsneak friend. Your potions and methods are so strange, and so confusing - but fear not, there are many tips and tricks for you, dear newbie, to learn to help you understand Baldwin’s Bubbling Brew! A Poor Man’s Guide to Baldwin’s by Arcticfox98 can help you level up the most efficient way possible to get to those higher level brews, as well as teach you the fundamentals of Baldwin RNG. If you don’t have the level high enough, but have all the materials necessary for certain brews, there are lots of different people who have level 25 (and higher!) cauldrons that would probably love to lend a claw.

Coliseum (Hard Mode)
Finally, you’ve made it to a point where your Scratches and your Meditates just don’t do enough to help you get through your fights. Your dragons don’t have enough energy to move onto the next level, they’re gobbling up your food faster than you can make it, and you don’t know what to do. This is where Battle Stones and Coli Builds come in. A Newbie's BASIC INTRO to the Coli! By EeveeDream can help when you don’t have that sweet 500kt for an Eliminate - there’s lots of information on the basics like understanding Stats, Venues, and Builds, and are also resources for borrowing level 25 dragons to help you get your own level 25’s.

Of course, no Coli recommendations would be complete without How to Train your Dragon by Culex. Culex’s guide goes into extreme detail of how to fight each creature in every venue, what builds you should be looking for, and how to most efficiently fly your way through each venue. And if you’re still not satisfied with these two guides, or they’re just not working for you, K0L0’s Comprehensive Coli Builds List has every build that has been brought to light thus far packed away in one thread. Happy Coli-ing!

Festivals (Part Two)
Along with the apparel, skins, and festival items, there’s a whole other level to the Elemental Holidays, one that I didn’t know about until just recently, honestly! To make the holidays even more fun, each Flight will have user-run events the week before the Holiday begins.

You can participate in the Out-of-Flight Raffles if you’re not included in the Festival’s Flight, where you can buy tickets (or give dragons for exalting purposes) at chances to win fabulous prizes, participate in different types of forum games such as scavenger hunts, puzzles, word games, coliseum hunts, and more! Each festival is different, with new themes, fresh art, and the opportunity to win or get user-made badges. In-Flight Raffles also exist, and oftentimes have other, exclusive prizes that you wouldn’t get otherwise.

Get notified by adding yourself to the Dom Watch pinglist, for a place where you can find all of the events happening that week!
__ __ Note: You’ll notice at Alisette’s Dominance Tracker that during the Flight’s Elemental Holiday (marked with an F), they are the ones who had won the Dominance the week prior to the holiday, gaining all of the bonuses (more gathering turns, discounts, and more) of winning 1st place during the week of their namesake holiday - this was something that was agreed upon between the flights near the very beginning of the game back in 2013 for fairness sake.

Dominance
Now, for the competitive part of the game. Dominance. The fight for bonuses, money, and a name on a board. Dominance is integral to Flight Rising’s gameplay, and it adds a whole new level of enjoyment if you have a competitive streak like I do!
__ __ A reminder: Despite being part of the game, you do NOT have to participate in anything that you don't want to.

If you want to participate, give Dominance, Flights, and You by Argante a look-over to understand the basics: what’s the difference between placing and participating? What’s the difference between Profit Pushing and a Conquest? All of these questions and more will be answered in that thread!

Some people find the idea of exalting their dragons - sending them to serve your Flight’s deity - appalling, and as close to death as you can get here on Flight Rising. Exalting and You: a PSA by Cynictis is an important read. It fills you in on the lore of exalting your dragons, why it can be important, and how it can be useful to you and your Flight.

But of course, the best way to figure out more about your Dominance experience is by going to the Forums and heading into Your Flight Dominance forum and take a read at the pinned posts there. There will be a lot of words that you do not understand, but asking questions about your Flight’s dominance, participating in conversations, and trying to understand will open up whole new doors to your Flight Rising experience, and make you new friends in the process.

That about sums it up.
