Dragons, Breeding, & Lair
How do I get more dragons?
New dragons can be acquired through hatching an unhatched egg, breeding your dragons, or purchasing dragons from other players on the
Auction House.
How do I feed my dragons?
Gather food, then convert them into food points in your hoard. Keep in mind dragons eat food based off of their breed. You can see what a dragon eats by checking the Encyclopedia.
How do I breed my dragons?
You can breed your dragons by going to your Nesting Grounds and selecting a pair of dragons to breed, or you can select a dragon to breed directly from their profile.
Why can’t my dragons breed?
Your dragons will fail to breed if any of the following is true:
- Your dragons are too closely related. Dragons need a five generational distance if they share a common ancestor in order to be able to breed with each other. If you are unsure if your dragons are too closely related, you may check their eligibility using Assay Bloodlines.
- Your dragons may not have enough energy. Dragons need to have at least 80% energy (40/50 points) in order to breed.
- Your dragons are breeds that are ineligible to breed with each other. Modern breeds can only breed with other modern breeds, while Ancient breeds are limited to only being able to breed with other dragons of the same breed.
- Your dragon is currently on a breeding cooldown. You can check how long your dragon’s breeding cooldown is by hovering over the icon on their profile.
How many eggs can my dragons have on a nest?
Nests can have 1-5 eggs, depending on a few factors. Two modern breed dragons of the same breed can have nests with 1-4 eggs, while two modern breed dragons of different breeds can have 1-5. Ancient breeds, due to their breeding limitations, can lay nests with 1-5 eggs. The chances of nest sizes are as follows:

When you interbreed 2 dragons of different species, this table is used: A chance at a 5th egg is added because you rolled the dice with species outcome.
- 5 eggs (5%)
- 4 eggs (10%)
- 3 eggs (45%)
- 2 eggs (30%)
- 1 egg (10%)
If you breed two dragons of the same species, this table is used:
- 4 eggs (12%)
- 3 eggs (40%)
- 2 eggs (38%)
- 1 egg (10%)
How do colors work?
On Flight Rising, the colors are arranged in a circular wheel. Take a look at this chart:
[Click here to open the image in its original size.]
This may look overwhelming, but here's how to read it:
- The inner circle is the old color wheel, which are the colors you can choose to give your custom progenitor dragon. An expanded color wheel was released for the game's third anniversary. You can read more about that update in this thread.
- The outer circle is the expanded, and current, color wheel.
- The additional squares attached to the colors are accent colors seen with the Basic gene.
Any site feature using a color range — including determining the color of a breeding pair's offspring or searching by a color range on the Auction House — will take the shortest route to get there. Here are some examples to demonstrate how this works:
- You breed a dragon with the color Moon to a dragon with the color Splash. Hatchlings from that pair will have colors in the whites, greys, purples, and blue range starting with Moon and ending with Splash, working clockwise.
- You breed a dragon with the color Maize to a dragon with the color Cerise. Hatchlings from that pair will have colors in the pinks and reds range up to Cerise, working counter-clockwise. The range does not expand a majority of the wheel.

Scroll of Maturity.
How long do nests take to hatch?
Nests will be ready to hatch after five daily incubations. As long as you don’t miss a day, your nest will hatch on the sixth day.
How can I get different eye colors for dragons?
You will only be able to hatch dragons from Nesting Grounds that match your elemental flight. In order to get different colors, you must rent a nest from someone in another flight.
What are all the eye types?
Eye types can be separated into two categories: natural and unnatural. Natural eye types can be acquired through breeding while unnatural eye types cannot.
The types of eyes are as follows:
- Natural: Common, Uncommon, Unusual, Rare, Faceted, Multi-Gaze, Primal, Goat, Bright, Pastel
- Unnatural: Swirl, Glowing, Dark Sclera, Innocent
What are the chances of hatching a dragon with a certain eye type?
We don't have exact or specific numbers for the rarity of each eye type, however we can infer the rarity tree of natural eye types based on the price of their respective eye vial item.
Judging by their Marketplace value, the rarities of natural eye types are like this: Common > Uncommon > Unusual > Rare > Bright/Pastel > Goat/Faceted > Multi-Gaze > Primal.
Can I change my dragon’s eye type?
Yep! Find the
corresponding eye Vial item and apply it to your dragon. You can find the location of a particular Vial on its Game Database page.
You can also use a
Vial of Scattersight to shuffle your dragon’s eye type to one of the natural eye types listed in the item description. Keep in mind that you may roll the same eye type; it is not a guarantee that you will get something new.

A “Random” Progenitor is the dragon that joins your lair after you get started. Progenitor dragons cannot be sold or traded to other players.
What are Modern and Ancient breeds?
Modern breeds are dragon breeds that can wear apparel and freely breed with any other modern breed, assuming the dragons are not too closely related. These dragon breeds always fit the standard “four legs two wings” protocol. Ancient breeds are unable to wear any apparel, however they may break the protocol that modern breeds follow as a compromise. They may also have lineart breaking genes that modern breeds do not.

Note: using “columns” will make your text size smaller.
The order of my dragons isn't correct!
There is an old bug that occasionally crops up where using the arrows on a dragon's profile cycles through your lair in an incorrect order. Should this happen, move your first lair tab after the second, wait for the order to save, then move them back.
What is the Hibernal Den?
Hibernal Den is essentially a vault for your dragons. While in the den, dragons do not lose energy. They cannot breed, be sold, bond with their familiars, or battle in the Coliseum. They can be dressed and have scrolls applied to them. Dragons in the Hibernal Den do age, so denned hatchlings will still grow up into adults as expected.
How do I increase my Hibernal Den slots?

trade items or pay gems to get more slots.
How do I change my dragon’s genes/breed?
