Alquist is my oldest dragon, a gift from a friend when she was leaving FR for brighter shores. He got a rename (used to be called Thane) and made him a fandragon for a character in the book I was reading at the time. Which is not to narrow down the timeframe at all, since it took me over a year to finish it. It’s not in my first language and what can I say. Words are hard. Especially when sometimes it feels like sometimes I don’t even speak English. And let me tell you, I despise literary interpretation even when it’s a language I do know, so don’t expect me to wax eloquent on the evils of capitalism or whatever people think this play is about. Though, for the record, I don't think it's about that, myself.
Anyway, Alquist had a bit of a different story before the Beastclan retcon stuff (along with what felt like, at the time, half my dragons)... so he’s been a bit of floating in the ether for a while without much of a character or direction. So any lore ideas for this fellow, I’m all ears. You don’t have to be familiar with the source material because, despite reading it for over a year, I can tell you for sure I’m not. But I do know this about him: he’s sticking to his revolutionary roots. Unlike the character, who kind of gets caught up on the wrong side of history. He’s just a builder, an angel on the shoulder.
So I’ll just talk about the dragon’s aesthetics, which I consider quite excellent. Took forever for me to finally land on this for him, though. I might give him Saddle one day, I might not. I do like the purple from Blend a lot for no reason whatsoever, and I was proud of working the gas mask into an incredibly appropriate situation. Also that Fiery Wings, which I almost got rid of half a dozen times because I could never use it in a way that I liked. Turned out all I needed was a little revolution.
Show me a Revolutionary! What are they fighting against and what are they fighting for? Do they succeed?
Tomorrow we celebrate Lineages with Aquarius.
