Biography

(If parts of this sound awkward, it's because I wrote this in chunks and at different times, and at least one chunk was written late at night fresh from a video game binge. Same goes for Kumatora and any other fandragons with WIP lore.)
(Please read the first comment. The lore is to make it easier to have a fandragon that's also part of a lineage. Fortunately, the Temporal Rifter lineage is very accepting of fandragons. As for the name Lucky being mentioned, it's just a random name.)

It began as the Ancients arose.

A plague of nightmares spread across Sornieth, moving faster than it had any right to. Some were old memories, passed down from ancestors who had lived through the war-torn ages; some were family memories from much sooner, of those who had endured attacks from the other flights; some weren’t memories at all, but deep-seated fears that could too easily become reality.

After three days, it seemed every dragon had the nightmares. After five, some could no longer tell the nightmares apart from their own memories. After seven, for some, the nightmares were more real than any memory.

Weeks passed, and the situation was only getting worse - until a hatchling broke free of his egg and looked into his parents’ eyes, and in moments, they felt the dreams slip from their mind. They remembered truth, now. They remembered what was real.

A second hatchling of such power was born soon after, and she helped her clan the way he helped his. In time, they moved on, each determined to heal all of Sornieth single-handedly if they had to. As they went, they discovered a second ability: they could alter and replace dreams, turning them from howling nightmares to things soft and sweet.

They found one another in the Sunbeam Ruins. Both of them had come to a clan in the Beacon of the Radiant Eye; when they learned they had the same abilities, they started talking more seriously, and in the end, they asked the clan leaders for permission to join, to stay and have hatchlings of their own.

Their guesses were right - their descendants inherited a share of their powers, weakened though they were. It would take time for them to help others with the nightmares, and more effort, but they could do it.

The question now is… will they?

(TL:DR of lore here:
Young Aether Lucky and his sister open window to other dimension, stuff goes horribly wrong, Lucky talks to Duster from Mother 3 before finding out they're basically sharing a body now.)

Lucky was dreaming pleasantly: the visions that filled his mind were of him rolling in fields of bright flowers, giving each one a name, pressing his small nose up against the more fragrant blooms. As he skipped in a frolicking chase after a beautiful orange-and-red butterfly, he felt the illusory field start to shake. He paused and watched as the bright green grass faded into a milky sea, the blue sky swirling with gentle purples and pinks. Then, dim light pierced the ethereal landscape as Lucky woke up.
"There you are, brother! You're always a deep dreamer." Lucky's sister Haran sat next to him, her paws on Lucky's arm. Of course, it would be hard to see their relationship at first glance. Lucky's body was covered in pale golden fluff with brighter yellow patches, while Haran's body was colored in vibrant reds and oranges. Lucky's swirled brown wings looked dull next to the red, yellow, and blue splotches displayed on Haran's wings. The only similarity visible came from their golden yellow stingers. Of course, some similarities lay deeper under the surface.
Haran smiled at Lucky. "I found something cool. Come on, but be quiet! Mom and Dad are still asleep."
Lucky blinked slightly before nodding. He liked cool things. He reached his paw upwards, and Haran took it and pulled him up.
---
Haran led Lucky through the winding halls of their family's home cavern. Occasionally, Lucky could spot a glimpse of the outside landscape through the various cracks in the reddish stone. It wasn't a pretty sight, the dull maroon waste occasionally pockmarked with pulsing green lumps, all under a fuming green-and-yellow blanket. However, the ominous surroundings did nothing to dim Lucky's excitement.
Eventually, the two Aethers came to a stop at a large stone wall. "It's through here." Haran gestured through a small hole in the wall, and towards a faint light. However, the hole was too small for a normal Aether to fit through. Then again, neither Lucky or Haran were normal Aethers.
Lucky closed his eyes and took some deep breaths, and his sister followed suit. Within moments, the two had transformed into small mice, and were quickly able to slip through the hole. Once on the other side, they once again returned to their Aether forms, giggling quietly.
The room they had entered was relatively small, especially when compared to the other rooms in the cave. Of course, that may have been because of the large bookcases lined up across each wall. Upon each bookcase were hundreds of large scrolls and leather-bound books, with even more stacked on a small table. Some books were scorched in places. Others had bites taken out of the pages. All of them were neatly organized, every book perfectly straight, every scroll neatly separated- every book, that is, except one.
In the middle of the floor, a single book sat- thicker than Haran's paws as she opened the book, and wider than Haran's body once opened.
Lucky and Haran gawked in awe at the book's contents. Each page had small notes roughly scrawled next to bizzare patterns- circles with star-like shapes traced within, strange arrangements of short lines, small symbols written in intricate rings. None of it made sense to them, but it was still impressive to behold.
After leafing through the book, which was occasionally interrupted by one checking behind them to make sure nobody else was watching them, they finally stopped on a single page. "Look." Lucky said, before tracing one of his small claws under the writing at the top of the page.
"Rifter's Circle." Haran read curiously, stumbling over the more complex words. "Created so even the most magically challenged Temporal Rifters can see into other worlds."
Lucky nodded towards his sister, a curious gleam in his eyes. "See into other worlds? Sounds cool! I wanna try it!"
Haran returned the nod. "Then let's!" With that, the two tried their best to replicate the complex circle sketched in the book. Finally, the two were staring at a rough replication, ready for the last step.
"You should read the spell. It was your idea to do this in the first place, after all." Lucky said.
Haran chuckled. "Why don't you try it? You'll have better luck than me- there's a reason why Mom and Dad named you Lucky, after all."
Lucky nodded, before reading off the string of words from the book. As he did, unseen energy whipped up everything in its path- from loose paper to Lucky and Haran's own fur- all to reach the center of the circle. Within moments, the energy had combined to create a swirling circle floating in midair. At first, it simply shimmered in the air, before showing a strange dark cavern, lit only by the solemn glow from a strange stake. In the cave, a group of strange creatures-like centaurs only with two slender legs (they almost reminded Lucky of the few drawings of the inhabitants of the Second Age)- gathered around another of their kind, before one broke off from the group and approached the stake. As the figure's hands wrapped around the stake, the energy ring rippled. One by one, the neatly arranged scrolls and books fell from the shelves as everything within the room was pulled towards the energy circle- including the two Aethers.
---
When Lucky opened his eyes again, he was back in the dreamscape- only, he sensed that wasn't alone. The young Aether turned around, searching the swirling plane. Finally, his gaze landed upon one of the figures he had seen in the spell, and Lucky felt himself walking closer.
The figure was laying face-down on the misty-colored ground, his brown hair just barely beginning to lay flat. His blue shirt and reddish pants didn't look like any clothes Lucky had seen. Then, the figure stirred and lifted his head, his dark eyes staring into Lucky's red eyes.
The tension in the air was palpable as the two locked eyes. Then, the stranger kicked outwards and Lucky just barely managed to jump away. "What are you? Where am I?" the figure exclaimed, rising to his feet- albeit, with a slight limping stumble.
Lucky hopped backwards anxiously, expecting another attack. "I-I'm Lucky. Lucky the Aether. This place is my mind, but I don't know how you're in here, unless..." Lucky's expression of fear turned to excitement. "Are you a dream reader like me?"
The figure shook his head. "No. I don't know how I ended up here." He put his hand on his forehead. "One moment I was with some close friends, the next I'm here. In your mind, apparently." His eyes suddenly lit up with an idea. "There's a way for you to, y'know, let me out of here, right? It's your mind, after all."
Lucky squinted. "How do I know you won't do something bad?"
The figure put his hands up. "Relax. I'm not one of those people. I'm a good guy."
Lucky nodded. "You promise I can trust you, Mister?"
"Yup. I promise."
"Okay then. I think by closing my mindscape, you'll be freed." Lucky closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
---
When Lucky opened his eyes again, the dreamscape had faded away and he was back in the hidden chamber. However, the formerly neat and tidy room was now in disarray, with books and scrolls scattered throughout. Even more worrying, Lucky was alone- Haran had disappeared.
Lucky felt fear bubble up in his mind. "Where is she? Is she okay? What if Mom and Dad find out?" Then, the figure's voice pierced Lucky's panic.
"Did it work, kiddo?"
Lucky's wings perked up as he looked around for the figure. "I don't see you."
"Wait." The figure sounded concerned. "When you moved, what I saw moved too. I think I'm still stuck in your mind."
Lucky gasped. "I-I'm sorry. I thought it would work."
A sigh echoed from inside Lucky's mind. "Well, I guess I'm stuck with you. No offense."
"It's okay." Lucky responded. "We'll fix this."
The voice paused. "While we're at it, I do have a couple friends. If I'm trapped in this land, then they might be here too."
Lucky nodded. "Come to think of it, my sister and I cast a spell earlier, and I think we saw you and your friends."
"Great." the voice responded. "And you said your sister's missing?"
Lucky paused. "How did you know?"
"I think us sharing a body means we can hear each other's thoughts."
"Well," Lucky said. "if you're looking for your friends and I'm looking for my sister, perhaps we can work together?"
"Not like I had as much of a choice, but working together will probably be beneficial in the long run for both of us."
"Sounds great! What's your name?" Lucky responded cheerfully.
"Duster."
