Here there was still that thirst for knowledge, and no one looked at him askance as he scribbled his notes - there were many stranger things to stare at - and, relieving much of his stress, none mocked him. In fact, he became a respected researcher, and was granted access to carefully curated chambers wherein resided the most esoteric of documents. He was trusted, and proud to have earned that trust. And so, it was a bit of a shock to him to find himself betraying that trust on account of a Book. Not just any book, but a peculiar tome that drew him implacably towards it, day after day, until he could no longer resist. Why, it was practically begging him to take it! He had amassed a fair hoard in this time, and spent almost all of it to acquire an invisible satchel, paying a premium to ensure no questions asked. Then it was a simple matter to slip the Book inside, and casually depart. He headed east, and joined a bustling settlement where he felt sure he could blend in unremarked. WindSky Weyr welcomed most everyone who could get along reasonably with others, and he was no sociopath! No one tried to pry into his past, and he grew quite comfortable. He even formed his first friendships, with Kuvesnath, the resident historian, and Alannath, their chief scribe. But Alexandriath, their librarian, remained suspicious of him, and never left him alone to browse her collection. Did she somehow … know? He kept his ill-gotten Book close to him at all times. He didn’t, surprisingly, want to read it overmuch, after the first time he had opened it and found himself almost in a trance, and not remembering what the runes and symbols had told him. The experience had left him feeling oddly satisfied, from that alone. The Book was simply his treasured object. He slept with it under his pillow at night, and would often sit in his chambers with the book on his lap as he read. He did not consider how peculiar this was. He did not notice it getting thinner, as if pages were going missing. He did start to notice an unusual restlessness. His thick and durable hide actually grew itchy. He opened up about it to Kuvesnath one afternoon as they shared tea and biscuits at Camelliath’s Sinensis Tea House, and that was the first time she’d ever looked at him strangely. She told him it sounded a bit how some Guardians knew it was time to begin the Search for their Charge. But that couldn’t be the problem, since he was of a different breed, and an Ancient at that! “And besides” thought Grimore, “I already have my Charge”. Wait, where did that come from? When they parted company, he hurried back to check on his Book. He stroked the cover, which was almost all that was left of it, but dismissed that telling detail. A few nights later the itchiness became unbearable, waking him from his sleep. He writhed about, scratching hard against any rough surface he could, to ease the horrible sensations from his chin, his ankles, his … shoulders? His head was spinning, his long spines falling… He collapsed. When dawn broke, he stood up, feeling disoriented. His legs… had they grown fins? Wait, FOUR legs?? And… was that hair sprouting from his jaw? He forgot all about his Book and stumbled to the bath house, to behold a new creature in the mirrors there. Oh, no, what had happened to him? He couldn’t remember something important, he was sure, and yet, he remembered so many other things! Perhaps the water would clear his head? But instead, it left him craving more. He knew the direction he needed to go to reach the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Without considering what his abrupt departure might mean to those he left behind, he trundled off in that direction, growing more sure with every step, both in body and mind. He eventually found himself in the Shoredeep Presage, and stopped on a beach on the outskirts of a clan. He didn't intend to stay, just bathe a bit in the water, but he was approached by a patrolling armored Pearlcatcher who stopped him and asked him who he was. His reply was as unsure as he felt, and he hastily explained his conflicting feelings on what had just happened. She narrowed her eyes at him, then agreed to take him to speak to the leaders. As they flew she introduced herself as Goonla, Tropical Guardian. Goonla took him to the Greeting hall to speak to the leaders and introduces them as Gloria, Geode, Geodette, and Ghealach. When he sees the three Guardian dragons, he breaks and spills his story off his chest; being born a Banescale, the book he swiped, his past work as a lorekeeper, turning into a Guardian dragon, and how the whole ordeal had been distressful which led him to running away. He tied it off with "I just need a place to refigure out who I am or what I should be...". There was a pause in the room; the Fae, Gloria exchanged looks with the Three Guardians, "Well..." she noted, "We could use a lorekeeper." she smiled. And so, Grimoire was welcomed into the clan and became its lorekeeper. He was better at retaining stories and information better than ever before, like he was a living chronicle. ![]() ![]() |

Gloria named herself for her success in escaping her pearl-encased egg. Not knowing where to go next, she took the nacred shell shards and swam upward. As she broke the surface of the water she was greeted by the sunset of an early spring day. She awoke to see the world in its most vivid of colors and lights, and from there ventured out to find a place to settle; when she landed on a rock to rest, she awoke a dragon within the rocks and corals. This dragon was Geode, a Guardian who was of earth and water alike, and since they both had nowhere to go and no ides where they came from, they decided to settle together and form a clan. They started out in the Spiral Keep, but as more and more dragons joined, not all of which were adept to living underwater, they rehomed their clan to the Shoredeep Presage so they may have locations above and below water. Bit by bit, as they both built their home and refined their territory, they welcomed in more and more dragons who looked to settle. Their community expanded and stabilized. Together they crafted a creed of symbolism; any dragon that resides in their clan must have a name beginning with the letter G as a sign of belonging and distinction. If one has a G in their name, they're welcome; if one doesn't, they're welcome to stay, but not join, as they had not pledged their connection. Some who joined have changed their names, others joined already with fitting names, and all kept to their promises of loyalty. Over time some dragons found mates and settled down, on top of their relationships; others found their place in serving their talents to the clan to help others, and others found a home like never before within the clan. They expanded and divided into different factions that take care of different things; rangers, warriors, mages, even candymakers! The clan gladly welcomes and encourages dragons to come and go and forge their own stories and lives. ________________________________________ |
