Night fell over the Viridian Labyrinth. Beneath the trees, there was little light. The Willow's fronds drifted in a breeze which skittered over the Gladeveins, as if it were too afraid to linger near the water. But it played with the Willow. A sweet melody slipped over her roots, through her hair, past her claws. As she sat back to watch the Clan scatter, she did not notice the whining mewls of a new-born hatchling, left behind, forgotten in the chaos . . .
Welcome to my first Pinkerlocke! Gosh, this is exciting. I started this challenge on my 2nd anniversary on Flight Rising (a FR-versary, if you will), as a big in-lore event.
The moments leading up to this pinkerlocke are detailed elsewhere; this will focus on a group of dragons who find themselves deserted by their kin and Clan, near the ruins of a recently-defeated Clan (the Clarus Clan).
This story will mainly take place in the Viridian Labyrinth, in the Gladeveins - at least, they'll start out there. We'll see where it takes us.
Updates will be daily, for as long as I can manage. To be pinged with each update, please let me know - just post here, no need to ping me since I'm subscribed to this thread. :3
For those wondering what this is, you can check out the main hub, here! I will be following the main rules, which will also be posted below. There will be a few of tweaks to the rules, and possibly even my own rules added in as I deem fit.
Occasionally I'll reference this Conlang project for Ursegal, the common Draconic language, in my story. :)
Alright... let's see where Pink takes us.

I had about 10 days of daily pulls saved on a word document on my laptop, but I've lost all that data (except for the two ambushes which I remember pulling a day apart), I was able to salvage a bit of the data from screenshots I still saved on my phone. I am trying to fix my laptop, but so far I am still waiting for a part to come in. So far now, I've got access to my partner's computer when he isn't using it. Anyway, updates are slow because of this. Sorry in advance for this annoying delay! In other news -- this pinkerlocke has been running (well, puttering along :P) for over 100 days now! Basic Rules

A death in the coliseum = that dragon must be exalted. This is the most essential rule of a nuzlocke.

All loot obtained in the coliseum is irrelevant, as is the loot obtained from gathering.

There are no restrictions about applying apparel to your dragons. Do whatever makes sense to you. Same goes for familiars and skins/accents.

And, most crucially, all nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile!

Drops of Fate:
Food: Coliseum time!

Plants: 10-20 matches

Insects: 20-30 matches

Seafood: 30-40 matches

Meat: 40-50 matches

I will select the dragons to enter any venue in the coliseum as it fits my story, or my preference. Occasionally I might use a RNG to determine who's going in, but as for now there's no set rule for that. [/columns]

[columns]
Material: Writing

I intend to write every day regardless, at least a little. :)

Days with material-pulls will have at least 500 words written.

Trinkets: Art

I'm not very artistically-gifted so trinkets will not necessarily be visual art

However, I'll be doing other visual pieces for these days

Fight 10 rounds consecutively, or until one dragon faints, in which case they are now dead.

Additional Rules

If I believe a dragon has fainted in the Coliseum and it was unjust (and I have to be brutally honest with myself, it can't be because I was careless or didn't pay attention), the dragon can be "saved" from death with 25 extra battles to make up for the faint. This can only be used once per character, and only when they are starting out from level 1 in the training fields.

Adapted from Petall's Pinkerlocke, here.

When getting a familiar pull, I must first use RNG to choose a dragon breed, and before finding the Flight, I must flip a coin. If heads, I must first search through my readers' lairs for eligible dragons. If none are found, I may then use RNG to find Flight and then search the AH for that combination. Please note, if a reader is not comfortable with this, they are ineligible for the search. Until each reader has had a dragon join the Pinkerlocke, they are not eligible for a second dragon to join.

Another option on an apparel pull is to give a dragon an accent or skin. This is the only way to add accents and skins to Pinkerlocke dragons, unless essential to the story.

These clumsy insects are completely blind, but use a sophisticated hypersensitivity to vibration and air currents to move as quick, calculated, and almost dangerous swarms. Thankfully they are only seen once every ten or twelve years.
These brilliant blue and green harpy feathers are often affixed to various pieces of weaponry to symbolize unity.

Day 93
Pulsing Relic
Trinkets
When submerged in warm water, this relic begins to thrum with faint power. It would take a lot of them to power anything worthwhile.
51
Day 98
Dire Wooden Toy
Trinkets
A horse-shaped toy, reeking of smoldering ash. It might make for better tinder than hatchling entertainment.

Clown Shrimp
Seafood
Known for face painting and recycled jokes. A hatchling can deliver a swift end to a clown shrimp after it ceases to be amusing and commences being delicious.
An incredibly potent layer of poison film covers this reptile's hide.

[nextcol]
They were going to lose.
The Guardian did not want to admit it, even as he knew it was true. The Clan was going to lose their home - but he could still save his Clanmates. He scrambled against his opponent, trying to push the Skydancer back. No! She wasn't a Skydancer. Iele had lived as a Skydancer for so long in his Clan, Ashlesha had started to think that he could trust her. He had always ensured that Sonata did not trust any who would hurt her or the Clan - but he was clearly a terrible judge of character as well.
"How could you," Ashlesha grunted, clawing at Iele's wings. She twirled away with a laugh on her beak, a twinkle in her eyes. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
"Ah, but it's been so long since I've danced with my kin," Iele said in response, her voice like a dream. Before Ashlesha could snap at her thin neck, she disappeared in a flash. He fell forward into the space where she had been, where her scent still lingered in the air.
That's cheating!
Before Ashlesha could get his bearings, he felt another body slam into his side.[/columns]
[columns]
"We shall take it back," a voice hissed in his ear, a deadly promise. It was not a voice he recognized. "All that you've taken from us -"
"We didn't take anything," Ashlesha cried in protest, but when he looked there was nobody there, neither dragon nor Sidhe. Instead, roots burst from the ground beneath him to tangle with his body. Ashlesha's thoughts flashed to a moment like this one, long ago, when he had used the power of his Charge to imprison a traitor to the Clan... He struggled, hard, willing with all his might for the Willow's roots to fall away from him. They only tightened in return, their strength increased.
The Willow was so much more powerful now that her spirit had awakened, shaking off the bonds of her Guardian. He could feel the roots drag him down to the forest floor as they twined around his legs, his torso, twisting at his tail. Branches pelted his flank, fronds swarming his face, leaves blinding him, pouring into his mouth, cutting off his breath as they snaked further down his throat.
As Ashlesha's consciousness faded, he could hear the shriek of his first matriarch. Sonata's voice echoed in the air, followed by the call of her grand-daughter Aria ... but he was already fading ...
"Ash! NO!"
"It's too late! Retreat! Clarus dragons, retreat!"
The last thing Ashlesha saw was the smirk of the Willow Fae, the spirit of his Charge, watching him. The Clan's deputy died, and with his death, the Clarus Clan broke beneath the weight of the Fair Folk.

Luana moved through the jungle, her wings held tight to her body. She did not like how dense this place was, how the trees leered down too close, how the ferns clung to the path, how the trailing vines draped over stones like pelts over a nest. It was as if the forest was alive. As a Plague dragon, being here was unsettling. She missed the Rotrock Rim, her birth Clan, her parents - she detested every moment in this forsaken forest.
[/columns][columns]
But Luana could not ignore the urge within her to find her Charge. It called her forward, and no matter how much she disliked where her Search took her, she had to follow it. With narrowed eyes, she continued down the path. Although - had she not already been this way?
She paused, and turned around. She thought that tree looked familiar - it had the same markings, she remembered passing it earlier this morning... And that boulder... But it had been on the left side of the path, hadn't it?
Shaking her head, she pulled her gaze away and kept going with determination. The forest was playing tricks on her. Or maybe she was losing it. The pull within her kept her moving - it wouldn't confuse her, would it? She tried not to think too hard about it. She just wanted to find her Search, ensure it was safe, and then take it and get off this island.
The path trailed to an end at the bank of a wide stream. It gurgled playfully as it made its merry way south-east. The treetops thinned here, letting in splashes of sunlight from above. It was kind of pretty, although Luana did not want to admit it aloud. She took a sip of water, before looking upstream. There was a clearing, with thick, long grass. Her stomach growled, and she figured it was a good time for a snack, even if it was just some grass.
She made her way over, hopping over the stream to avoid getting her paws wet. As she settled in to graze, she heard a buzzing noise behind her. Her fins flicked, but she ignored the noise. Suddenly, two blue bumble bees, Coral Carpenters, attacked from the side. They were large and angry, and completely caught Luana off guard. Fortunately, her mother had taught her a few battle moves. She was able to fight them off. Immediately, a Luna Mith took their place, with an Emerald Webwing right behind. Luana was pushed back towards the stream, but she did not want to give up the fight.
After receiving a few stings and half a dozen blows to her flank, she snorted in irritation. "I just wanted some food!" she growled, giving one last swipe to her attackers. Then she turned tail and jumped into the stream, creating big waves all around. The water wasn't deep enough to submerge herself, but with properly-aimed splashes, she managed to keep the pesky creatures away from her. "Next time, I'll eat you!" It was an empty threat, but it made her feel better.
The water was soothing against her shallow injuries. She decided to continue upstream - she noticed the pull inside her was stronger than it had been earlier. Maybe she was finally going to find her Charge! With a renewed burst of energy, she pulled herself to the opposite shore and shook herself dry. Although she was a Water species, she didn't like swimming at all... It wasn't her element...
Distracted by her thoughts, Luana did not notice the bend in the stream until she nearly fell back into the water. Trailing willow fronds brushed gently along her face, sliding over her neck and down her flank. Her claws snagged on some of the leaves. She hissed in surprise, and stumbled aside, away from the weeping Willow. Then she looked past the pale leaves, and her eyes went wide.
"What the -"
The area was littered with bodies.
Luana had never seen a dead dragon up close before, not even growing up in the Plaguelands. And here there were nearly a dozen. There were feathers and scales all over, broken limbs, claws and horns detached and lying scattered, and blood - a lot of it. She shivered, and backed away slowly. Her foot slipped in the mud of the banks, and her hindquarters splashed into the stream. With a small whimper, she managed to turn around, but the willow caught her wings, her horns. The mud sucked at her paws.
[/columns]
[columns]
And then her heart nearly stopped. The pull within her clenched and tightened. Her vision went tunneled, as if she were about to faint. She squinted, trying to fight it - whatever it was. She tried to move closer, but her wings started shaking, her knees knocked together, and she slipped back into the water, losing control of her body completely. Water spilled into her mouth, and as she tried to scream, she only swallowed more of the Gladeveins.

I took Luana for about 25 battles in the Training Fields (I lost count of the battles though, whoops). It was tough going at first, but I managed to make it work (tbh, she did die in the coli, but I'm going to ignore that since it's my first day lol). She's now level 4, and I gave her a Sap stone that came in handy. I had no clue about the best way to stat her, so I gave her points in Strength and Quick, with a bit in Vitality as well.

@clarax may I be added to the pinglist? I'm interested in how this'll pan out. The imagery is fantastic, by the way. I'm hooked!
@clarax I'm screaming, the prologue is beautiful and so, so sad. Poor Ash! And the fae... so fascinating. I've studied iele before and I LOVE how you incorporated their abilities and characteristics into Iele the dragon :3
I can't wait to see how this turns out! I feel like I'm back in the past reading those thrillers that would show up piece by piece in journals and newspapers--except this is much better. I'll be looking forward to it every day.
This makes me want to try one of my own! Maybe I will once my lair is more stable. All your work organizing has payed off, certainly. <3
Also, thank you for the birthday shout-out, and for the wonderfully kind message and gifts in my inbox! The flowers made me so happy, and I'm excited to see that Leannan's child is going to be Sidhe in your lair, it totally makes sense ^o^ And you didn't have to send me treasure! Please let me make an aesthetic board or something in exchange for it? I've been doing that in a little shop while my arm is injured.
