Hello, and welcome to my third Pinkerlocke, The Twisting Squalls! I've discovered I love Pinkerlocking so much, that I might as well continue my growing string of Pinkerlockes seeing as I've wrapped up the story for my previous one.

Unlike the last one, this Pinkerlocke will have no links story-wise to my previous Pinkerlockes, other than maybe the occasional cameo (though even that is only a maybe).

Previous Pinkerlockes

Rules
Once again, copied from this forum thread. My additional rules will be posted below.

Basic rules:
A death in the coliseum = that dragon must be exalted. This is the most essential rule of a nuzlocke.
All loot obtained in the coliseum is irrelevant, as is the loot obtained from gathering.
There are no restrictions about applying apparel to your dragons. Do whatever makes sense to you. Same goes for familiars.
Ping or message me if you take the challenge ;p (you don't actually /have/ to but I'd love to see how it goes!)
And, most crucially, all nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile!

Optional sentimental rule:
If a dragon reaches level 25 it "retires". It can join the ranks of your main lair.

Drops of Fate:

Food: Coliseum time!
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches

Choose from one of these two rules:

Hardmode: You must select coliseum challengers in your lair using a random number generator. Then, select the coliseum arena that corresponds to the highest level dragon of that group (For a 'medium' mode, select the venue that is one tier down from that of highest level dragon). If your dragons level up while in an area, you can still stay there for the whole day. You can quit your battle streak at any time to regen health, and flee from battles if it is appropriate. Don't try do 50 matches in a row unless you want a wiped-out dragon!

OR

Easymode: Choose whichever team and venue you want and go for it. Running from battles, using health pots, and ending the battle streak is fine, as I explained above.

(These ranges can also be altered to suit your level of activity/personal preference.)

Materials and trinkets: Flex your creative muscles!

Note that there is currently a glitch in which Pinkerton mislabels materials as trinkets. If you obtain a "trinket" from Pinkerton, double check to make sure its not actually a material!

Materials: Do some writing for your nuzlocke. How does your new nuzlocke clan change and develop? What are your dragons like personality-wise? How do they get along? How do they die? Is there an antagonist in this nuzlocke, or are they merely struggling against the forces of nature? Write dragon bios! Make a blog, or a thread for your challenge in the creative forums! Write short stories or paragraphs, or add to one big one adventure!

Trinkets: Do some art for your nuzlocke! Digital or traditional, use whatever medium feels best for you. Draw deaths. Draw dragons. Draw humanized versions of your dragons (if that's your sort of thing). Draw familiars and dragons together. It doesn't have to be that good or elaborate. If you make a nuzlocke thread, post your art there.

Obviously, you might not have time in your day to do something creative. If that's the case, don't worry about it. This challenge is meant to be fun and heartwrenching, not a chore.

Rare drops: Wildcards

Familiars: Buy the cheapest dragon in the auction house of a specific breed. Use a random number generator (between 1-14) to determine which breed you will get! (Optionally: attach the familiar to the new dragon.)

1. Fae
2. Guardian
3. Mirror
4. Pearlcatcher
5. Ridgeback
6. Tundra
7. Spiral
8. Imperial
9. Snapper
10. Wildclaw
11. Nocturne
12. Coatl
13. Skydancer
14. Bogsneak

Apparel: Breed two of your dragons. The dragons you pick are up to you. You can also change one of the genes on a dragon, or use a scatterscroll if you are rich and crazy.

Note: You must flip a coin for each hatchling once they hatch. If tails, the dragon is dead and you must exalt it. This is in keeping with the origional Nuzlocke thread's rule, because I really like it.

Battle items: Uh-oh!!!

Flip a coin.
Heads = DEATH STREAK
Tails = Nothing happens

DEATH STREAK rules: Randomly select three dragons using a random number generator. Fight in the coliseum using the "food" rules 10 rounds consecutively (ie. you cannot leave that arena), quitting midway if a dragon dies. If you are using the easymode rules, switch to the hardmode rules for battlestones.

(Note that the 'death streak' needs to be tested for deadliness. It should be pretty deadly, but not totally impossible.) After testing, it seemed to work as intended! Survival depends on your willingness to be both lucky and cautious.

Starting out:
Using the method I detailed in the "familiar" possibility above, obtain a small number of dragons (I suggest 2 or 3). If they already have names, keep the name! If not, name them whatever you like. The challenge starts once all of the dragons, if they are hatchlings, grow into adulthood.

Alternatively, choose 2-3 existing dragons in your lair to participate. This has certain advantages (eliminates the need to wait for maturity and breeding cooldowns) but also some disadvantages (less random=less exciting).

You may want to "partition" your nuzlocke dragons away from your regular dragons so you don't get them mixed up.

Losing:
If your dragon count falls to zero you have a few options
1. Declare the challenge a "loss" and give up
2. Wait for Pinkerton to drop a familiar
3. Just say "welp" and buy another dragon from the AH without waiting for Pinkerton because you lack patience.

My Additional Rules:
 1. When adding a new dragon to the Pinkerlocke, I must buy the cheapest dragon off the rolled breed that has two (2) lore parents. The parents lore must inspire the dragon's lore in at least one way, whether a small way or a big way.
 2. Upon reaching level 25, a dragon gains immunity from death, but still remains part of the clan. As a reward, I may commission a piece of art for this dragon.
 3. When getting a familiar pull, I must flip a coin. If heads, I must first search through my readers' lairs for eligible dragons. If none are found, I may then search the AH. If a reader is not comfortable with this, they are ineligible for the search. Until each reader has had a dragon join the Pinkerlocke, they are not eligible for a second dragon to join.
 4. Another option on an apparel pull is to give a dragon an accent or skin. This is the only way to add accents and skins to Pinkerlocke dragons, unless essential to the story.

Skysea could feel it, and he didn't like it. Ahead of him a few paces was Volt, unflinchingly stepping forward into the wind. The two dragons had been walking all day, and Skysea had been growing more and more apprehensive with each passing hour. "Er, we're not going fully into the Twisting Crescendo, are we?" Skysea called out, trying to make his voice heard against the wind. "When we get there, we will know." The mirror responded in a mechanical voice. Her machinery clicked, as it usually did when she was thinking. It was a sort of a comfort to Skysea. A morbid comfort, but a comfort at that. Knowing it was pointless to argue, Skysea once again fell into silence, bracing himself against the lashing rain. Helpless to do anything else, he followed his charge further into the storm. Here, the air was charged with energy. It was that energy that had drawn the ridgeback to this forsaken island. Where wind met ice, battered by a storm born of breezes carried from both ice and fire, what better place was there for a seeker of elemental magic? Suddenly, her eyes fixed back towards the twisting vortex swirling above the windswept plateau. She could see it in it's entirety from here. She could not tear her eyes from it, as if it held more beauty than she had ever seen before. Her gaze broke, only for a second, but it changed her entire composure. She seemed to be bracing herself for something. Her eyes narrowed and her lips parted, carrying her words across the fierce winds. "Someone is coming." ____________________________________________________________________________________ Hello everyone! Here marks the beginning of my new Pinkerlocke! I have spent the past week brainstorming the personalities and backstories for these three dragons, and figuring out enough information to start with, and now it is finally here! This Pinkerlocke will be very different from my previous, I think. I certainly wasn't expecting the characters I got. Unlike my last pinkerlocke, where the rule was I had to buy the first dragon that had something in his or her bio, the rule for this one is I have to buy the cheapest dragon that I find that has lore parents, and use the lore of the parents to inspire the personalities/backstories of the pinkerlocke participants. Coincidentally, Skysea and Volt came from the same clan, which is why they are traveling together. I have no idea where this pinkerlocke will go, but I can already tell it's going in a direction that I would never have decided had I not had my lore parent rule in place. I think Volt's very existence can attest to that. She is a very interesting creature, and I will be explaining more about her later. Hello everyone!

*clinks glass* Cheers to a new start!

@Shanuuk

Thank you! I'm really excited too!

@zzzhorses

Thanks! And yes, she is. Though, her situation is rather... interesting. There's a reason Skysea described his comfort as morbid, is all I'm saying for now.

@Kizzan

Thank you!!!! Volt is so much fun to write! I'm glad you like her and Skysea!

@CleverDual

Thank you!!! I'm hoping to put what I've learned from my previous two pinkerlockes into this one to make it even better!

Skysea asked the mirror beside him uneasily. The two of them stood on a precipice, on the very edge of the windswept plateau. The wind howled around them, and Skysea was worried any gust might send them toppling off. "You said you wanted water. Here is water." Volt explained simply. The clicking of her thoughts stopped, apparently satisfied with her logic. "Yes but-" Skysea sighed. Volt wasn't good at carrying on an argument. He blamed her mechanics. The truth of the matter was yes, he wanted to live around water, but he had had more in mind the hot springs his mother owned, or the comfort of the sea of a thousand currents, not the stormy unknown of the unclaimed ocean beyond the continent. "Come. Let us go. No point in wasting time." Volt said curtly, leaping off the cliff. Skysea's heart lurched, expecting her to jump straight into the ocean below. That kind of water could not be good for a being such as herself, but at the last moment, he saw her spread her leathery wings and soar into the harsh wings. Sighing once more, Skysea closed his eyes, fearing the worst, and followed. *** Skysea blearily opened his eyes. He seemed to be on a beach of some sort, though he couldn't tell where. All he could remember was being tossed in the wind, badly battered by the rain, which felt more like sleet at times. Suddenly, he heard a clicking he recognized as the noise of Volt's brain starting. She was waking up. He scrambled to his feet, and desperately looked around, trying to find her. He saw her, half embedded in the sand. Her purple wings were spread out. She had crash landed too. He briefly wondered if the sand would interfere with her mechanics, but he quickly pushed the thought away. He had to help her. He was about to take a step towards her when he noticed sharp purple spines across the beach. "Volt, you need to be careful! These are mirage puffer spines! My dad told me about them, I heard they can take down a dragon-" He began blubbering. "S-s-silly Sky Sea." Volt said in her garbled, half-awake voice. "They can do me no harm, as long as I have parts. Do not worry. I am fine." "Can you at least stand?" Skysea asked, not convinced. "Still waking up. Will stand when at full power." Volt attempted to lift her wings, but they flopped down. Patience. It had never been something he had been good at. Especially when it came to his charge. He sat down, determined not to move until she got up. He would not take his eyes off of her. He would be a good guardian and wait and protect- what was that? Skysea could swear he could see something moving along the cliffs that lined the beach. He shivered. As the shape moved closer, he could tell it was a ridgeback. She loomed over them, dark and brooding. He could see her eyes narrow and sparks seemed to fly from her. She gracefully glided down to the two dragons on the beach. When she spoke, it would only be described at what Skysea would call a purr. "And who might you be?" ____________________________________________________________________________________ They have arrived! The pinkerlocke crew are all together. This certainly is an interesting crew, and I'm looking forward to exploring how they all get along, especially as their personalities are all so different and strong.
