Biography

Sagwa was youngest of her litter having older brother and sister all of them being spirals. They and the imperial siblings Komuso and Snugooi hatched during earth’s holiday and they didn’t participate in the events because of that. While they resided in the hatchery their caretaker Kaamos told them all kinds of stories Sagwa being very invested in them. She especially liked the stories about the eleven deities and clan’s five guardians, and she often kept Kaamos awake by asking him to tell more, even though the stars were not visible during the day.

After leaving the hatchery coldness of the winter was the first thing to greet Sagwa and she soon returned to the temple where it was warm. Rest of the hatchlings had gone to the library to start seeking their path and Sagwa joined them. She picked up a book about myths but soon noticed a problem with her current form; it was hard to fly and carry something at the same time, at least without spells. Hanako helped her to get the book to the table and Sagwa ended up chatting with the librarian before she started reading. The librarian was a snapper and Sagwa wanted to know how that body was different to her long body. At least carrying items seemed easier. The snapper told that carrying stuff was easier but she could not fly, her thick skin protected her from coldness and heat, somewhat, and her diet was different from hers.

Sagwa had noticed that Kaamos had not eaten any meat whenever they had eaten, unlike any of the hatchlings, and frankly she had been jealous of that. She didn’t quite like the idea of eating another living being but she had not been able to eat a piece of grass when she had tried. Also his winter coat looked very enticing, at least it looked warm. Hanako mentioned that it was possible to change breed if she was unhappy with her current form. She told Sagwa to ask Tres for more information but also warned that he probably wouldn’t give her any money if she didn’t do any work. For that she recommended joining gatherings or asking around for stuff to do.

It was too cold to work outside, at least for Sagwa, and she decided she wanted to stay in lair. Also, clan had increased its defense recently, at least according to older residents, and assuming the outside world was dangerous she decided to not go out unless forced. Instead she got herself some warm clothes from clan’s clothier after which she helped the familiar keeper Pinkapi with her job. During that time she learned some spells as well as how to communicate with certain animals through telepathy. She also ended up adopting a cat and a rabbit, and when not taking care of all the familiars she was at the Hoard fixing and building stuff, mainly some jewelry or satchels for her two companions.

Eventually Sagwa had worked enough for the accountant to offer her the money she needed to buy the breed change scroll. She bought it and asked Hanako to help her transform. She had heard that changing breed alone could end up badly and she wanted to avoid that. After getting her new form Sagwa took few nights to get used to her new form and diet, and taking care of the fur, and she finished the satchels she had been working on. After that she decided to return to the library as she wanted to do something more magical in her life. During the first week out of the hatchery the clan had had few visitors from fire and Sagwa had talked with them during lunch. They had talked about some luck beliefs, like how rabbit paw gave good luck, and Sagwa wanted to learn more about that. She also wanted to know if such a cruel lucky charm had any drawbacks. At least it should have.

In the library a book about rituals and charms was missing but Sagwa’s rabbit was able to locate it. It was currently being borrowed by Valkyrie, Sagwa’s sister who had turned herself into a ridgeback. She was surrounded by books and she seemed to be focused on studying. She though was not using the book Sagwa was looking for and she asked if she could have it. Valkyrie didn’t say anything, she just watched her sister for a moment before giving the book and continuing reading. Sagwa’s companions were a bit scared of the ridgeback’s behavior but for Sagwa it was very normal. Valkyrie had always seemed like extremely dedicated to learn stuff and Sagwa was surprised she had not moved to the Observatory like their brother had.

Sagwa read through the book and though it had a lot of information it was ultimately just an introduction to luck and magic. Sagwa wanted to learn more details, maybe even learn proper luck magic, and Hanako suggested she should visit clan’s magic boutique and Ayla who ran it. Sagwa had heard rumors of the boutique but she had not known it was real, or that in order to reach it she needed to go through the scary house. She though wanted to see the boutique and stepped in even though she was not in mood to meet some ghosts. Her cat had been brave at first but he had soon ran back to her scared, though he insisted he just wanted to support Sagwa.

After walking back and forth the ghost-infested corridors of the dark manor for what felt like hours the trio managed to locate the door to the shadow embassy which was also the magic boutique. The inside was an arcane themed café-boutique mix which changed to water themed soon after. In there Sagwa saw Kronk reading a letter while his two frogs were playing some kind of boardgame with who Sagwa guessed were Ayla’s companions. The shadow ambassador was nowhere to be seen. Sagwa had seen Kronk before, he had guarded the hatchery while the five had been in there, but she had never interacted with the snapper. She was a little nervous when she asked the cold snapper where Ayla was he just saying she should come back soon enough. He suggested her to look around while she waited.

Sagwa’s two companions had gone to play with the other companions while Sagwa had gone to admire some of the charms that were being sold when the shadow ambassador came back. She was fast to notice Sagwa and Kronk was fast to tell she had been looking for her. Ayla put her stuff in their places and asked what Sagwa had been looking for she telling she was interested about rituals and charms, mainly learning more of them as well as how to perform and make them. Ayla sold Sagwa few books that taught what she was looking for and said she was willing to buy some charms if she even wanted to earn some money. Sagwa promised to keep that in mind and left the boutique with her companions, both of which were grumpy for having lost the game they had been playing.

After that Sagwa spent most of her time studying all kinds of rituals and how to make charms. Neither of them was that hard, at least when compared to what Valkyrie studied which was everything imaginable, and unlike her sister Sagwa had some free time to hang out with her clan mates. The clan had just recently had a bounty hunter sneak into the lair, and though it had not caused much damage it had caused some rumors to brew. The clan had been asked to be wary of bounty hunters for some time now but the reason had remained undisclosed. The rumors tried to offer an answer and the consensus seemed to be that three of the residents had bounty placed on their head, among them Sagwa’s father Richard.

Sagwa had never been particularly close with her parents. Her mother Rosemaling had left the clan the day Sagwa and her siblings had stepped out of the hatchery, as she was a travelling artist having just stopped by, while Richard had been avoiding being in public or with someone. Sagwa had always been a bit confused by that though she had just assumed the poet needed some creative peace. However, after hearing the rumors she had re-evaluated how she had seen the old spiral throughout the nights and noticed he had always been a bit nervous-looking when in public, meaning he probably knew he was wanted, and not in a good way.

Soon after the rumors started flying one of the dragons, who might have bounty on their head, went missing and Sagwa noticed it made her father very nervous. She wanted to help him and started to work on a charm that would protect him from any harm, and she did few small rituals to bring him some luck. She had just gotten the charm ready when the clan had a conference Sagwa guessing it related to the missing dragon, although it was oddly late for that. She was slightly off as the conference had been demanded by clan’s priestess Kupari, or rather the five guardians. They wanted to exile one dragon who had captured the missing dragon, and after a long debate she left, and she took the missing dragon with her.

Richard seemed to be devastated after the rangers returned empty-handed. Sagwa was able to hear them say Naru, the one the guardians wanted gone, had manipulated earth to slow the rangers down and by the time they reached her hide it was empty with no trail to follow. The entire clan had been listening the news, and after they were delivered everyone scattered. Sagwa tried to get to her father but the spiral was able to fly away before she managed to get out of the crowd. By the time she no longer needed to avoid other dragons the old spiral was nowhere to be seen.

Sagwa decided to let his father process the news. She did not know what his relationship was with the missing dragon but losing her seemed to be something he didn’t want to experience. The following night Sagwa send her two companions to look for the poet and her cat eventually found him. He led her to the central tree, and Sagwa struggled to see her father wrapped around one of the branches. The tree was blue during night and Richard, as a blue dragon wearing blue clothes, blended right in. Sagwa was able to locate him after her cat climbed to him causing him to move. Sagwa followed her cat up to the branch and asked if her father was fine with her joining him. He seemed tired but had no objections.

Sagwa was not sure what she should do now that she was sitting on the branch and decided to just ask how her father was doing. He was fine though a little tired. She hesitated a little but she decided to ask if he truly had a bounty placed upon him Richard saying that was true but didn’t want to tell why he had that bounty. After that she asked what his relationship was with the missing dragon, as far as she knew he and Finlande, the missing dragon, were not mates. He didn’t seem like wanting to answer and just said it was complicated. Richard didn’t seem like being in mood for chat, her cat was rather bothered by that, and Sagwa decided she should leave him be. Before she left, however, she gave him the charm saying it would keep him safe. Richard thank Sagwa and she flied down with her companions.

After that the third dragon with the bounty, Marjatta, moved to live with Sisi on her ship while Richard spent some time in clan’s first lair. No one knew what he did there exactly and many just assumed he needed some time in peace, Sagwa among them. After that the bounty hunters left the clan alone, as their targets no longer lived in the lair, except Richard who stayed but kept low profile. With that clan’s defense was returned to normal level, and with that the clan returned to its normal life, which wasn’t much different as far as Sagwa noticed. She decided to spend her time making charms and, if needed, perform some small rituals as well. She wanted to keep the guardians, and gods, happy so they could keep the clan safe from whatever the future brought.

Small pile of pink petals.

The clan life had been peaceful since the Night of the Nocturne. Aethers returning to Sornieth spiced things up a little bit but not much, the surrounding forest got a new spirit and an angry immortal dragon but that was about it for the clan. Sagwa had enjoyed her time as much as she could making charm and performing small rituals in an attempt to cheer up her father who had been suffering from artist’s block since losing his muse. Thus far the rituals had not worked on that front but they seemed to keep him safe from the bounty hunters who passed by occasionally.

The shadow holiday was approaching and Sagwa had spent plenty of time helping Ayla fill her shop while she was busy with preparing for the Circus. The bogsneak left about week before the event in order to assure a bountiful holiday for the clan and while she was away Sagwa found herself something else to do. Mainly she just made charms to gift others, visited Kupari to check if she needed help and made sure evil spirits stayed away. Around that time June came to meet her saying “they” needed her help. Sagwa knew the old spiral as event organizer and from that she was able to guess that “they” meant some kind of organizer group, or just her with her sister Aspen. She though had no idea of why the two spirals wanted her help as surely they were not planning to perform a ritual or anything. June refused to explain anything and she just pushed Sagwa to where the others were waiting.

June pushed Sagwa to scientific garden where her group was waiting. Like Sagwa had guessed Aspen was present and so were Tropi and Feeniks, two dragons who had habit of teasing Sagwa if they ended up in the same gathering group. June explained that they were planning to organize an event for clan’s five guardians, inspired by the conference that had happened during the Night of the Nocturne, but they had gotten stuck and they, or rather just June, asked if Sagwa had any solutions. Kupari was much more closely tied with the spirits than what Sagwa was and if the goup had to ask someone’s help it was the wildclaw. The group though wanted the event to be surprise to the authority, and the priestess was part of that group.

Sagwa took a look at group’s plan and it looked fine enough. They had thought about having one night to celebrate all five of the spirits but they struggled to incorporate Idja and Ealga due to their specialties, the dead and life and death respectively. Sagwa found that rather weird as for her those two were the only ones easily celebrated at once, the others had too different specialties to celebrate them all at the same time. She brought that up to the older dragons and suggested they expanded the event from one night to five in order to give each guardian their deserved spotlight. The spirit didn’t just protect the clan, they protected aspects of life, and they should respect that by celebrating both the spirit and the aspect, and in order to do that they needed more than one night.

The older dragons, who Sagwa had noticed were usually less into the guardian spirits when compared to younger generations, understood her explanation and they started to reorganize the event. They started to brainstorm what kind of activities and food each night should have Sagwa offering the spiritual point of view during all that. Not any kind of game was fitting for the guardians, they had to be tailored for the celebrated spirit and they had to respect the aspect that spirit protected. For Eahket they decided to organize a procession during which they alighted the paths leading to the clan to symbolize the spirit’s role as the guide of travelers, and the travelers also could share stories during that night. With Ealga they ended up moving the death aspect for Idja and its night was dedicated solely for life and health with the activities including a lot of self-care ones. Idja’s night ended up becoming “acknowledge death and remember the dead” night while Nagir’s night ended up including an exhibition battle as well as defense lessons. Ruoigu’s night ended up being about family, learning and civilization and activities included enjoying culture and time with one’s family, or the clan as a whole.

After the activities for the nights were figured out the group decided in which order the spirits were celebrated and when the festival would take place. Eahket as the traveler’s guardian took the first spot to symbolize residents arriving to the clan all around the Sornieth while Ruoigu took the last night as the biggest of the five during which the clan celebrated its wide variety of residents. Ealga took the spot before Idja as they made sense to group together, moving from guardian of life and death to the guardian of the dead just made sense. Nagir as Ruoigu’s guardian took the spot before the reindeer which meant Ealga and Idja took the second and third night respectively. The festival as a whole would take place at May to end during the anniversary of Ruoigu’s discovery.

After figuring out the nightly activities and the timeframe of the festival the group thought they were ready to share the idea with the rest of the clan. They needed permissions from the leaders as well as Kupari before they could even properly organize the event and the higher-ups most likely demanded some changes to the current structure. The event organizers wanted the five nights to be gathering-free and as far as Sagwa knew the leaders would not allow that without some skillful persuasion. How the plan was to be brought up to the rest of the clan was mostly the event organizers’ problem and Sagwa had not much to share regarding that. She shared some luck with them and stayed up to date with how they were doing but other than that she started to withdraw from the group. Ayla had returned from the shadow domain and Sagwa needed to help her fill the charm storage.

One evening June arrived to tell that Aspen had managed to organize a dedicated conference for their plan reveal through their mother Karmiini and Sagwa rejoined the group to hone the presentation. The conference was held the following night and she joined others as they waited the clan to arrive to the courtroom. Aspen was to be the one to share the idea, as it was very much her dream project, and Sagwa couldn’t help but notice how nervous the otherwise confident spiral was. That was understandable, Sagwa herself would have been horrified about talking to the entire clan in the courtroom without informing the higher-ups first. She performed little luck ritual for the older dragon before the conference started and assured that everything would go well.

Aspen introduced her event plan to the rest of the clan and everyone was ultimately onboard, except Morgana which came as surprise to no one. The old guardian did not allow free nights and the clan spent some time talking about how to incorporate some kind of work to the festival. That ended up being cleaning work and the target would be the place related to night’s theme; Eahket’s night focused on inn as the resting place for travelers, Ealga’s night focused on healing offices that kept dragons alive and so on. Sagwa was fine with ritualistic work, that was why she often joined gatherings. Working showed the spirits that the dragons were dedicated and didn’t just bath in their blessings like they were entitled to them. After that the organizers started to work on the festivities and Sagwa lent a hand. They had less than a month to get everything ready.

Sagwa was not much of an organizer and she mostly focused on delivering messages between Kupari and the actual organizers. The event was meant for the spirits and they needed to make sure it pleased them, otherwise they could take it as an insult and that could end poorly for the clan. When not running between the sanctuary and the rest of the clan Sagwa either made sure everything went well, no unlucky events, bad weather or sicknesses, or she helped to make charms and decorations to be used during the festival. Once it was time for the festival itself, she enjoyed it with others. She was the one to lead the procession on Ealga’s Trail and she was one of the most hardworking dragons during the nights. She was also one of the most eager gift givers when it came to thanking relevant dragons. Then again she had made plenty of charms to give to others, during or outside the festival. After the festival was over and the clan prepared for the nature holiday Sagwa performed a little ritual to make sure the clan was able to organize the festival again next year. It had been great and the guardians deserved their dedicated event.

Traits

Sagwa is an arcane tundra with grey sparkling fur with pale blue underside and greyish purple sparkling wings. Her face, legs, arms, tail and edges of the wings are blue in color and lack sparkles. Her mane is long from the head to the near end of the tail and it stays grey with blue tips all the way. Her cheek fur is relatively short as is her tail tuft while the fur on the legs and arms is longer due to her past of being a spiral. The fur is also relatively flat due to her lacking undercoat. Her horns spread outwards and her ears point slightly up. Her eyes are slightly darker color of pink.

As ritualist Sagwa dresses up simple to make ritualistic movements easier. She has dark colored bracelets both in legs and arms that emit black smoke to drive away evil spirits, dark saddle, tail and wing decorations with tufts and gems that move along when she is dancing, and a bridle to which she can hang some charms she has made. She also carries an incense cup and some spirit repelling plants with her. She hangs the cup to a nearby tree when performing a ritual. She has three light blue lanterns following her, two round and one long, they usually floating above forming a triangle around her. They are just meant to light the area she is in. The lanterns emit red smoke, and Sagwa has four red feathers behind both of her ears. She believes evil spirits fear color red and she uses both the smoke and feathers to drive them away. She also has two brown satchels hanging on both sides they being used to carry her two companions. Left one is used by her cat and the right one is used by the rabbit. Both satchels have red glass clover hanging on them to protect the two animals.

Sagwa has strong voice and relatively fast speech though not to the point of being noticeable. She is polite when speaking and even if she was mad she never swears. Her voice usually has encouraging tone but it can flip to warning whispers in an instant if the other party says a word she believes brings bad luck. She has strong Chinese accent.

Small pile of pink petals.

Sagwa is a friendly dragon best known for her superstition. She believes that bad things, be they catastrophes or small unfortunate events, are caused by evil spirits and she is constantly seen performing small ritualistic dances to keep them away. She also makes all kinds of charms in order to protect herself and especially others. Along with being superstitious she is also quite spiritual and she does her best to keep both the five guardians and the eleven deities happy. She is usually found doing something because she doesn’t want to look lazy. She though isn’t a workaholic and occasionally she has nights during which she takes it easy, she just has weird habit of needing to ask permission first. She is also quite compliant but also a bit of a pacifist, and refuses to hurt anyone for any reason.

Sagwa is quite social dragon usually found where others have gathered. She likes chatting with others and she likes to play games though she can be a bit picky. She is generally helpful and caring, and if someone seems to be having hard time she may gift them one of her charms or she might perform a little ritual to help them get better soon. She doesn’t get angry easily and even if she does she will avoid fights and arguments. If that seems unavoidable she usually leaves. Sagwa can tolerate all kinds of dragons but she grows easily frustrated and scared if someone explicitly swears or does bad things to make fun of her superstitions. If someone does that, Sagwa will start avoiding them and will pretend they don’t exist, and she will not change that even if that someone changes their behavior.

Sagwa has two pets which she calls her “luck bringers”. The cat is called Dongwa and he is more competitive and stubborn of the two but he is also smart enough to not do anything stupid. Unlike his owner he is not a pacifist and may occasionally go pay the bullies a visit behind his owner’s back. The rabbit is called Sheegwa and she is curious, cheerful and ever optimistic. She is friendly by default and usually doesn’t approve Dongwa’s one-cat revenge journeys. Neither of the two can speak naturally but they understand speech, can write and are able to communicate with Sagwa through telepathy. Sagwa sees the two as her dear children.

Small pile of pink petals.

Sagwa is not a naturally born tundra and party because of that her memory is very good. She has no issues with remembering names or events, and she generally seems to remember things better than some non-tundra residents.

Sagwa knows spells that help her with everynight life. She can levitate items and change their sizes like many in the clan. She is also able to write without holding the quill which is useful as her fingers can be a bit clumsy. She is good at making all kinds of charms from pieces of jewelry to paper slips and small dolls to statues. She, however, can’t paint good enough runes with mind-controlled quill when she needs to paint them, and her hands are too clumsy for that. She though can paint very clean runes by using her tail as a brush its short hairs helping to keep them clean. Along with that she has memorized a lot of actions that cause bad luck and how to counter them. She is also able to use telepathy with smart enough animals.
