Biography

Rosemaling and her younger sister hatched in the clan of Autumn Stars deep within Starwood. The trees of the Starwood were said to inspire dragons and sure enough Rosemaling felt artistic pull early on. She told her clan mates all kinds of stories the wood made her think and after the inspiration started to run out they send her to the Oculus of the Eleven to hone her story telling.

Tourmaline Archives and Astrolodome both would have been better in terms of studying opportunities but the quality was visible in the price tag. Rosemaling, as a young dragon, had no money to live in either of those let alone study in them. The Oculus was a cheap option and it wasn’t that bad of a studying place, especially when Rosemaling didn’t need some extra fancy tools for her field of study, paper and ink were just enough. While studying in the Oculus Rosemaling lived in a very young clan that resided near the Oculus at the time. She enjoyed her time in there and studied hard to find her artistic path.

Though Rosemaling enjoyed living in the clan and studying in the Oculus she soon started to feel her inspiration running out again. It didn’t really help that chances of trying different forms of art were limited in the Oculus that was more of a research center than an educational center. After talking about it with her clan she decided to travel across the Starwind Bay to the wind domain. The wind flight was more artistically oriented than arcane and finding cheap enough residence and studying opportunities should be easier than what they were in the homeland. After saying goodbye to her temporary home Rosemaling took flight and flied over the Bay to the wind domain.

Rosemaling traversed through the wind domain few days before finding a place to stay and study in Singer's Brook. Though less magical it reminded her of the Starwood in a sense that it inspired her greatly. While living in the wind domain Rosemaling started to figure out what her artistic calling was. She tried all kinds of arts from poetry to painting and from storytelling to sculpting. Ultimately, she felt painting was her thing and she especially enjoyed creating long paintings that were like stories when following the paper from one end to the other. By the time she had figured out her style the Brook had started to run out of inspiration, like other places before it. Rosemaling took that as sign it was time change place yet again and she packed her tools to make her way to the Millmeadows.

Rosemaling resided in the Millmeadows for few weeks before she started to run out of inspiration again. That had happened already enough times for her to think if she wasn’t meant to stay in one place. Maybe she was meant to travel the world to see how different places inspired her. She didn’t mind seeing the world but she was worried if she was able to fund travels from one place to another. After finding her style she had improved with using it but she felt she needed to improve a bit more to be able to travel like she felt like needing to do. She was still a novice and that was visible in how much dragons were willing to pay from her work. But being a novice meant she was able to improve and improving was what she decided to do.

Rosemaling was still in the wind domain planning where to go next when she spotted an advertisement. At the border between arcane and ice domains there was an old manor that offered all kinds of dream related services. They ranged from therapies to dream-level learning, and though there was a disclaimer that none of the services was guaranteed to succeed due to the lack of studies on the field Rosemaling wondered if dream learning was worth giving a shot. Regular learning was guaranteed to yield results eventually but it was too slow for Rosemaling’s liking and speeding it up a little sounded quite nice. Also, the old manor sounded like something that could inspire her.

Rosemaling arrived to the manor with few others wanting to try out dream services and the manor was already housing few that had arrived earlier. Rosemaling let others go before her so she could be in the manor a little longer. While she waited she asked the Weeping Lady to show around the old building explaining she was an artist of sorts and the manor might inspire her a little. The chatelaine was happy to show Rosemaling around and her head was swimming in ideas by the time it was her time to meet with the dream doctor.

Upon meeting with Glenn Rosemaling explained why she had come to try dream learning. The dream doctor read the application and said they were no artist themselves so though the treatment might be effective she might not see any effect because they weren’t sure what kind of dream would help with artistic learning. They though collected data in order to improve and Rosemaling was free to give her feedback to help with that. She decided to do that regardless of how the treatment worked because Glenn sounded like a nice guy, and it might help future patients.

Rosemaling had never lucid dreamed before and it was quite a nice experience. There was no telling if the treatment had worked right away and she decided to start painting to see if anything tried in the dream had carried over. There was no notable difference to pre-treatment state but few challenging things did feel a bit easier. She reported that to Glenn and continued the painting which she had promised to do as part of the payment. She wasn’t sure why but the manor inspired her to paint a ghost story and that was what her brush created on the paper.

Rosemaling stayed in the manor for few days to finish her painting. She was mostly alone, excluding the feeling that someone watched her, because the residents were mostly nocturnal while she was active during days. Everyone was sleeping when she eventually finished the painting and while waiting others to wake up she decided to explore the manor a little. The Weeping Lady had shown few places but it had been clear for Rosemaling that the Lady had left parts unshown. Those were the parts she wanted to see.

Along with the dream lab the manor also had a healing lab though it seemed to be primarily for the residents to use. There were wings where the residents resided and few that seemed empty, and those seemingly empty ones were the ones Rosemaling wanted to explore. Sadly, they all seemed to be locked and Rosemaling wondered if she should try lockpicking when she heard one of the locks open. She froze waiting someone to step out and see what she was planning. However, no one stepped out and when Rosemaling went to open the door herself she saw no one, just a dark, eerie corridor. Common sense said “don’t go in there” while curiosity said “go in there” and having already tried to get in Rosemaling didn’t see a point in turning away now.

The corridor was very creepy and the hatchling laughs that echoed there didn’t really help with lighting up the mood. Though seemingly being unused the corridor and rooms on the way were clean suggesting that the residents at least took care of that part. Rosemaling was about to peek inside another room when she felt something flying behind her so close she could feel it. Surprised she dropped her bag as her arms moved to keep her mouth shut and she turned to see what had flied past her. She didn’t see anything but she saw something hiding inside a nearby armor display. Carefully she got closer and peeked inside but saw nothing, or heard for that matter. She decided to believe she had just imagined the whole thing and went to pick up her bag. It felt heavier than before but Rosemaling decided to ignore that.

Rosemaling went a little deeper into the corridor and was about to start climbing a tower near the end when a ghostly hand shut her mouth and someone said she was off-limits. Rosemaling turned to see a dark grey coatl who continued she should get back before “Pahatar” noticed what she was doing. Rosemaling assumed that was the name of the chatelaine. Rosemaling, having her mouth no longer shut, was about to ask if the coatl had run past her some time ago but before she could the two heard Glenn call for someone named “Halti”. Rosemaling assumed that was the coatl who started to push her out of the corridor.

Glenn had looked worried when the two stepped back into the public area but soon calmed down when they saw Rosemaling. Halti asked what Glenn needed they saying they already found “her” Rosemaling guessing they had been looking for her. Finding the situation a bit awkward she said she had finished the painting and gave it to the chatelaine as she arrived to the lobby. The wildclaw seemed pleased with the work and after paying rest of the treatment, and stay, Rosemaling left the manor the residents thanking her for her stay. She hopped on the ship that had bought new customers and sailed to the nearest port.

The nearest port was a lone peak in the Crystalspine Reaches. Rosemaling was thinking about taking a ship towards Focal Point when an older and rougher looking obelisk arrived to have a word with her. The obelisk, Marjatta, asked if she had been in the Weeping Manor just recently and upon getting a positive answer she started to ask what the inside was like. Rosemaling was rather confused but before she was able to ask any questions her bag started to make sound and upon opening it she found a blue spiral inside. The spiral, Richard by the sound of it, and Marjatta talked about something that Rosemaling didn’t understand and with the ship approaching she didn’t have time to ask any questions. To make matters even more confusing Lydia, manor’s guard, flied towards them Marjatta demanding the two to get on the boat while she “held her back”. Rosemaling wanted out of the awkward situation and didn’t need to be asked twice.

On the ship Rosemaling made her way to the back of the ship in order to see what happened at the port. By the looks of it Marjatta and Lydia were crossing swords. Luckily the port, and the ship, were rather empty and the two didn’t need to worry about hurting passersby, or having too many witnesses. Richard, who had hidden back into the bag, asked if they were clear and after Rosemaling said they were the spiral moved his head outside the bag. After a long and awkward silence Rosemaling asked if she should know what was going on Richard saying it was a long story and she shouldn’t worry about it. Rosemaling was a bit curious but decided she wanted to stay out of the situation and decided change the topic.

As Rosemaling and Richard talked Rosemaling learned that Richard was a poet and composer, an artist in a sense as well, and the two got along thanks to the shared profession. He lived in a place called “Dream Wood” which he described as an old and wild cousin of the Starwood and upon hearing that Rosemaling decided to visit the place. At one of Focal Point’s ports the duo hopped on a ship that took them to Richard’s clan’s, known as Ruoigu, little port. From there Richard showed the way to the clan and once in there he showed the way to the inn. He said he could be found in the temple if she happened to need anything but also said that Azul was better option for help. After that the two went their separate ways.

Rosemaling stayed in the clan for about a week before her creativity started to demand fresh sights to see. She used a portal, that connected clan’s current and past lairs, to get to the Starwood and from there she decided to make her way towards the harsh lands of plague. The places she had visited thus far had been mostly peaceful and she was excited to see how totally different landscape fed her imagination. She though made a mental note to visit Ruoigu, and why not the Weeping Manor as well, again in the future.

Traits

Rosemaling is an arcane obelisk with shiny muted light green sparkling body that has a hint of yellow on it and pink blotchy wings and hair both of which have a hint of pale blue on them. Her skin is very smooth while her hair feels like silk when touched. Her ears are quite large and somewhat floppy while her tail is quite short. Her eyes were originally darker but she has changed the color to be paler so they go better with her more pastel colors.

Rosemaling is a travelling artist and she is dressed lightly to make moving easier but she also makes sure the clothes keep her warm if needed. She has turquoise sleeves and pants warming her hands and legs. On her neck she has teal scarf keeping the throat warm though because of the mane it looks more like a silk necklace with a star on the front. On her back she has a green feather-lined mantle, a gift and good-luck charm from one of her wind homes, and on that a cloak made out of leaves that protects the mantle from rain and other types of weather. It also just looks cute. On her head Rosemaling has a green wreath with silver decorative grapes it mainly just keeping the wind from blowing the cloak’s hood back. She also carries her tools with her, paint brush, paint and pieces of parchment, though they are often found in her somewhat large brown satchel.

Rosemaling has sweet and kind voice though she can be a bit direct at times. She is not afraid to say what she thinks but she also knows when it is better to stay quiet and she is generally quite nice to chat with. Though sweet her voice is also confident and supporting even when she happens to be unsure. She has clean Norwegian accent.

Rosemaling is a confident and determined dragon who is proud of her artistic skills. She is down-to-earth and easily adapts to new situations. Actually, she gets easily bored if things stay similar for too long and she is constantly looking for new place to stay in because of that. Having gotten used to travelling alone since her early days Rosemaling is quite brave and isn’t really afraid of new places or situations. She has, however, been taught to not deal with forces she might not be able to handle and if she is unsure then she can’t handle whatever it is. Despite of that she is quite curious and she might poke her nose to places it does not belong to. She though knows when it is better to stay out of situations.

Though travelling a lot by herself Rosemaling is quite social dragon. She enjoys meeting new dragons, familiars and beastclan members alike, and thanks to having changed place quite a lot since early days she generally gets along with almost anyone. By default she treats everyone with respect and she keeps that attitude even when dealing with unbearable individuals. She though is not afraid to say she does not accept their behavior and if she does not see improvement in that department she can get quite passive-aggressive. If she gets to that point, her respect is very hard to get back as she did warn beforehand. It though is possible, it just takes a lot of effort and time, usually longer than what she is going to stay in the area.

Though travelling a lot by herself Rosemaling has chosen to be without a company of her own. She has been offered few, mostly corgis, but she has always declined. She prefers needing to deal with only her own well-being. If she need company, she knows where to find that.

Rosemaling knows few spells to make her life a bit easier. She can levitate items, even multiple at times, and she can shrink items so they take less space in her bag. She can also halve the weight so carrying stuff is easier. She can also create a glowing sphere in case she needs some extra light. Her main profession though is art and that is where her skills shine. She has some experience with all the forms and she is decent with them but her main focus is in painting. Because of that she is quite good at making paint and even brushes. As for the paintings themselves, they are of unique style. Rosemaling paints long scroll-like paintings that usually tell a story of sorts. The stories range from happy slice-of-life type of stories to tragic takes on real-life events. The style of the paintings also changes depending on the story; more light-hearted can be more cartoony while heavier stories are usually more realistic. She marks the start of the story by small piece of wax in the corner, the wax she usually made herself.

Like all obelisk dragons Rosemaling can turn into a statue her statue material being rose quartz. While in a statue form her state is a mix between being asleep and being inside a box. She senses sound and smell like they came from outside a non-existing box while her touch and sight are non-functioning, and she is less reactive to what she senses. However, poking her with something sharp wakes her up easily. It hurts but doesn’t leave any injuries. Another, safer way to wake her up from the statue state is to call her until she realizes she is being called.

Rosemaling travels a lot and thanks to that she interacts with all kinds of dragons and creatures. Because of that she speaks fluent Talonok and she knows few words of other beastclan languages the maren one being her weakest. She also understands a lot of dialects and can imitate some of them quite well. She can also use a little bit sign language and she knows morse letters. She, however, isn’t that good at translating heard morse code.
