C O N C H Founder Kelp Beds Trainer She/Her {Progenitor} RELATIONSHIPS
|
Conch was keen to leave her family clan - as a quiet, mild-mannered dragon, she found the boisterousness of her relatives exhausting at best and stressful at worst. Her fearsome Guardian appearance enabled her to travel without incident, and it wasn't long before she found a quiet spot for herself in the Everbloom Gardens. It did not stay that way. Basic made himself known to her almost as soon as she had settled. He was a Mirror, full of self confidence and overzealous charm, but he did charm her. She could see the bravado in him, and the lonliness. Why else would he have been in such an empty place, so desperate for company? She appreciated his help, his humour and his kind heart. In his eyes, somehow she is beautiful and strong. Conch never thought she would be seen in such a way, but to recieve such adoration from Basic each day boosts her confidence like nothing else. After finally finding a home and a mate of her own, it seemed Conch was unable to produce her own family. The first two hatchlings they had been in such anicipation of, stuggled out of their eggs, frail and weak. They did not last long. Basic blamed himself - both hatchlings had been Mirrors, and he said it must be his genes that were at fault. Conch told him that was nonsence. She grieved, but she was thankful of the support of her new clan members. Brick told her it was not unusual for a pair's first clutch to fail, especially if the parents were so young. Conch was very young. In a few months, he said, she should have better luck. Conch wasn't sure she wanted to risk it. She didn't think she could bear to go through an unhappy experience again. She focused her efforts on adopting more hatchlings in need of homes, from all over Sornieth. She didn't need her own eggs to be a mother. She also sent word to tutors, requesting to be one of their pupils to learn the ways of a Warrior. Chiffchaff and Arcturus answered her call, and she began regularly training at Harpy's Roost. Basic worried, and told her she was taking too much on herself. That they were a clan, and responsiblities could be delegated. Conch needed the distraction from the urge to build nests, and it was her clan. She would provide for it and protect it as best as she could. Conch's rage and sorrow at the loss of another child, after three healthy clutches, changed the clan for weeks. Some worried it would be changed forever. Her pained, furious cries echoed through the chambers of the den, and the peaceful calm of their territory was weighted with a heavy air of sadness. No beastclans or wildlife set foot in the area - even they could sense it. The only thing that could appease her was having her children close, especially her daughters Lauma and Kholin, who had moved to other clans. She worried for them now, more than ever. Taffy had been the first she allowed to leave and now he was gone. She would never forgive herself for it. This time the loss was based on a desicion she had made, not from sickness or uncontrollable misfortune. It would take a long time for her to recover from this. How far they've come. But it's just the beginning. It was indeed a long time before Conch settled on a nest again, but she did. As the pain of loss faded into memory, she was rejuvenated by the success of their other children and the long list of growing descendants who left the Meristema Clan, and sent excited letters back, full of love. What led her change of heart most though were the young dragons that were sent to live with Conch. She welcomed all grandchildren and great-great-great-great-great grandchildren with open arms and a full heart (Basic often had eyes full of tears over all the thriving, joyful little hatchlings). They were a great joy to them both, and gave Conch the desire to hatch eggs herself again. Conch did not feel well when she was carrying, and this of course concerned her. Her energy was depleting by the day. It had not been like this before - was she ill? Would she make her unborn babies sickly? She was far stronger than she used to be, she didn't understand it. She wasn't very good at hiding it from Basic either, but he helped keep her privacy and worked on building a comfortable nest himself. He didn't leave her side, and it lifted Conch's heart to see his care and devotion. She worried for him too, Basic could get terrible anxiety with this sort of thing, and Conch wished she didn't have to make him suffer so. When her laying day finally came, it turned their fears to joy. Four eggs were huddled in the nest - the most Conch had ever had in one clutch. They were large and healthy, and explained her exhaustion. When they hatched, the four children were healthy and gave no cause for concern. When the time came, Conch and Basic even allowed three to leave the clan (to trusted, well-known places, including their allied clan of Sunfold). Much to their relief, all of them were happy and content in their new homes and Amyas, the son they had kept with them, worked to eliminate Basic's anxieties over Mirror children. Fortune once again smiled upon the Everbloom Gardens. An unexpected nest. A nest to celebrate 100 CotG living permanently in Meristema. A Christmas nest. First Anniversary Lore: Part 1, Part 2 Second anniversary hatch. On the day Auraboas arrived, Conch's overdue eggs hatched and two more appeared. @Disillusionist said: It's fantastic how many different colors Conch has, and yet they all blend together seamlessly! I honestly had a great time picking out separate elements, trying to figure out where the accent ended and the dragon began. The apparel does a great job tying it all together. I'm genuinely in awe of how closely they match, each piece blending into the next, the cool colors all layered against her warm primary and secondary.
