Brick had decided to take once last trip around Sorneith before exalting. He had made up his mind, and he was content with his decision. He had seen much in his time, and helped wherever he could, but the Clan could manage fine without him. There were other elders, and all the hatchlings he had known were long grown and competent, with nests of their own or joining other clans. His time had come.

When making his way through the Viridian Labyrinth, he heard hushed, anxious murmurs on the wind. There was a small clan starting out in these gardens, and they all seemed very green around the ears. The small group of them were gathered around a nest.

"You don't have to go," a white and pink Tundra insisted. "I'm sure Basic and I can manage."

"It was difficult enough with just two of us before, I don't want you getting hurt," the Guardian on the nest replied. "Either of you."

"Well, I'll take some of the newbies then."

"Absolutely not, they've never set foot in beastclan territory before."

She was right, the other dragons there were all mere fledglings and one just a hatchling. They seemed in desperate need of guidance. Brick cleared his throat, and the gathering noticed him for the first time (very poor defences).

"Perhaps I may be of assistance?"

They grew wary, regarding him with suspicion.

"Forgive me, I do not trust my children with strangers."

There were no Guardians amoung the young dragons, and no one shared this female's colouration. She was anxious about her first brood.

"You misunderstand me. I would be more than willing to help your companions in the fight in your stead."

"You would?" Her eyes immediately softened with gratitude.

"And why would you?" a Mirror asked, sidling up to Brick as if he might be intimidated. This was the father-to-be then.

"Let's just say I have had my fair share of scrapes, and wouldn't want to you to suffer the same."

"Thank you," the female Guardian said. "Please at least eat with us on your return."

Brick suspected his journey may be brought to an indefinite halt, and he found himself pleased at the prospect.

"I'd be very grateful. My travels have been long."
