Amyas was kept close by his parents, even though he was energetic and healthy. His clutch had been their fourth successful one, and the largest yet - three Mirrors and one Guardian. It was as if the Gladekeeper had granted these children to prove Basic's believed curse of the weakness of the Mirror gene wrong once and for all. Each child was strong, the Mirrors enjoying causing mischief in a mini-pack, and no cause could be found for concern. Yet when they were old enough to start getting restless and wanting to spread their wings, Conch and Basic still worried. These were their first children since the loss of one of their previous clutch, which was the first child they had ever allowed out of their clan. The first to leave was Persica, sent to the trusted sister clan, Sunfold. Then Birch, who eased his parents concern by going under the wing of coliseum veterans. Finally Coral, who followed her brother to his new-found clan. Amyas remained with his parents, and for them to witness him thriving as he continued to grow was a great reassurance to them. More of a dreamer than his adventurous siblings, Amyas was content to stay in the Meristema Clan, and was very glad he had done so when Veda fell from the sky into their territory. He was fascinated by her, and tended to her as often as he could as she recovered. He considered her a fallen star, and she did indeed provide his deepest held wish and became his lifelong companion and firm friend.
