Biography

Alma's egg was given to the clan by a plague clan that was hoping to hide it and they were given a light egg in return. Due to the recent events in the clan however the egg was stored in the vault from where it was found months later along with other eggs. Having held the eggs for so long the clan decided to hatch all four of them.

Alma was the smallest of the hatchlings but also the most curious and experimental. She often spent a lot of time studying her food before eating not needing to worry about others eating it first as she was the only one eating insects. She was very curious about how the insects function moving their parts and even taking them off and trying to put them back before actually eating.

One afternoon Storm came to visit the hatchery to bring the nesting doctor Pilkku something. What it was did not interest Alma but Storm's arms caught her eyes and didn't let go. The spiral did not have real arms but instead artificial ones and Alma was more than curious about them.

She flied to meet the older dragon before she left asking all kinds of questions from what happened to her real arms, how did she get the new ones and who made them. Storm told that she had lost her arms in a storm, ironically, and Tempest with her coworkers had made new ones to replace them. Being able to replace body parts intrigued Alma and she started to test that with her lunch with very little results.

After Alma was able to leave the hatchery she took a job to find Tempest though she had not asked what she looked like. She tried to guess what she would look like based on her name and the knowledge she had made artificial limbs out of metal. She didn't find anyone matching the parameters but she noticed a nocturne called Virgil who seemed to carry stuff used on Storm's arms. Alma came to meet the nocturne and asked straight away if he knew where to find Tempest. She was about fall due to excitement when he told he worked with her and escorted Alma to their workshop.

Virgil lead Alma to an somewhat ugly looking building in where she saw a lot of of different kinds of weird machines. In there she was introduced to Tempest and her partner Parcha to who Alma told she was curious about the arms they had made for Storm and asked to be taught more about them. Tempest was more than willing to take in another student and after giving her some basic information, because Parcha suggested, while giving a tour to her workshop she told all the detail she could remember.

After that Alma stayed with Tempest and her coworkers and started to study how parts and abilities of living organism could be modified or replaced. She tested with plants and other food items she was given starting with dead and eventually moving to living with mixed results. Eventually she started to success more than she failed and gained weird collection of half plant, half animal, half machine creatures. She did not considered testing on other dragons but at the same time she fantasied about fixing someone's injured parts and studied to eventually be able to do that without worry about failing, too badly.

Alma lived with the science family mostly doing her own experiments occasionally helping the bigger dragons with precise stuff. Because she did a lot experiments with animals be them food or temporarily taken care of creatures she had somewhat cold relationship with Pinkapi the tundra not liking what she did. She occasionally, if she remembered, reminded Alma about that but that came from more of a worry than hatred towards Alma's work. She seemed to remember somewhat that some of the hurt animals had gotten new wings or legs after having lost them in whatever from her.

The somewhat cold encounters with Pinkapi led Alma meet with Megabrain with who the tundra had relationship so cold that the scale didn't go so low. Alma did not know why the usually so gentle dragon was so angry towards the alchemist Alma finding him to be really nice company. He was a bit full of himself but he knew a lot and liked dangerous experiments like Alma did. She liked to see what kinds of stuff he was able to do with his cauldron and a lot of funny materials when not helping in Tempest's workshop where the group was preparing to move the building Rosalin having promised to make them new bigger one underground.

One night some weird creatures came through something called Forbidden Portal and Alma and Megabrain spent a lot of time studying them. They experimented with what they could do both magic wise and anatomy wise they both being foreign and interesting. Alma even tried to replace some of their body parts but they either did not stand metal or they got their anatomy all wrong. Megabrain's liquids didn't help much they only pushing back the failing of the experiment.

By the time clan's familiars started to act weird the workshop pets being least affected by that Alma and Megabrain had managed to figure out how to work with some of the new creatures. It wasn't much but it made Alma very happy and she was motivated to figure out how to deal with the weirder ones. However before she was able to reach the next milestone she fell severely sick for no clear reason she being in coma for almost a week having had spasms and cough all that time and upon waking up her eyes looked a bit weird. That though did not affect her at all and she tried to return to her work as soon as she could. The rest of the group, however, disagreeing.

The clan had started to build the caves in where the new workshop was to be build and the workshop gang had started to prepare for the project building stuff that was to be used in there or dismantle old machines that were not needed at the moment to be ready to be moved. Alma, however, was not allowed to participate yet Virgil and Parcha making sure she was fully recovered before returning to the work. She was eventually let to join when the group had started to make wall panels for the new workshop. However she was not able to work for very long when someone threw some bottles into the workshop closing the window through which they had been thrown. The liquids in the bottles reacted with each other filling the workshop with gas in no time knocking everyone in out before any of them managed to escape.

Alma later woke up in the healing offices with her coworkers they slowly waking up from smallest to largest. They were told that Megabrain had thrown the bottles and was now trapped in a mirror for helping with attempt of summoning the Shade, and technically attacking clan's lightning ambassador. Alma was rather sad because of that and upon being able to walk she paid the alchemist a visit in his lab. He was indeed trapped in a mirror and Alma asked why he had done that with more curiosity than feel of betrayal. Megabrain explained that they had to get rid of ambassadors for their plan due to their status and even told that Alma's sickness had been his doing to get then clan's fired and now exiled nature ambassador his status back giving nervous glances to the familiar living with him in the mirror.

Alma wasn't that mad to Megabrain upon hearing what he said he having clearly been paid back already. Once he stopped Alma decided to take a look at the more secret papers in the lab and just took the ones she found useful leaving deaf to Megabrain's pleads to bring them back. She took them with her when the science family was able to move to their new workshop months later Alma being happy to have her own research wing to work in.

Alma studied Megabrain's papers as she waited the new workshop to be finished and once it was, and once she had organized her own wing, she decided to get to experimenting. Megabrain had managed to turn dragons into familiars not only on physical level but mentally too and he had planned to try that in reverse: give a familiar a dragon body and mind. He though had not gotten far due to having started after their plan of summoning the Shade was announced he being captured few nights later. Alma was interested in the topic and wanted to see if she was able to succeed in it just to rub some salt to the alchemist's wounds.

Megabrain, thinking he was smart, though had written his hypotheses and plans in "alchemic language" which Alma did not understand. Thankfully Megabrain was no longer clan's only alchemist and Alma visited Elena to see if she could help her. The alchemist was more than happy to help and the two started to expand Megabrain's ideas before getting to testing. They had decided to use rats as their test subjects due to their good survival rate and they decided to use bogsneak DNA for dragon transmutation due to breed's origin as not-deity-created breed. Also thanks to breed's connections to alchemy Elena was able to get them the DNA they needed without needing to bother any of the clan's bogsneak residents Alma being sure non of them would have wanted to help.

The experiments did not end up being that successful their experiments usually dying both girls being rather sure that rat bodies could not stand rapid transformation to a dragon. They decided to tone down the physical transformation and focused more on the mental side both being aware that some familiars could be very intelligent when compared to others of the same species. First few shared the fate with who had come before while the girls tweaked the formula but eventually a silky fanrat known as EX 26 managed to survive through the critical phase.

EX 26 started to grow and with the cage getting too small for him Elena and Alma moved him to a bigger cage large enough to hold a bogsneak, in case he grew that large. The experiment seemed to be a success at least on some degree and Alma and Elena decided to name the surviving test subject, habit of Alma, they picking up name "Doug". Since their primary goal was to see if they could grant non-dragons dragon level intelligence Alma and Elena started to talk with Doug and even tried to teach him some of their symbols to see if he could learn them. It seemed they had succeeded Doug starting to talk in a week, not that well but he improved as the two dragons talked with him.

What separated dragons from non-dragons was their complex use of magic and to see if they had actually succeeded Alma tried to get Doug use some magic. He was supposedly a light dragon, at least silky fanrats used light magic and Elena had used bottled light magic in the serum to avoid elemental conflict within their test subject, and tried to get him use light magic despite barely knowing any light skills, on paper. Elena too tried to help she providing them some easy light spells to use but no matter how many times they tried Doug could only alight his scratch, which natural fanrats could do too. Elena assumed that it was still too early for Doug to be able to use magic, considering even natural born dragons took time to learn it, and they decided to try again later.

Alma kept talking with Doug while Elena had returned to her own lab to work in there for time being she hoping talking with him and teaching him would eventually let him unlock his dragon magic. That though took longer than Alma would have hoped and she started to get a bit frustrated she really wanting to see Megabrain's face when she got an ex-fanrat to use dragon magic. However, before they reached even basic level of magic usage Alma was woken up by Parcha he calling for her in the hallway saying her experiments had escaped. Alma had barely woken up when she was already up checking her subject rooms the one housing Doug and other rats being completely empty. She rushed to Parcha who was turning off the ceiling rail which the rats had activated he saying the rats had escaped to Tempest's wing to where Alma rushed.

Tempest had had one of her experiments explode early in the morning and the rats had seemingly escaped through a hole the accident had caused on the wall. Tempest had just woken up and had not seen any rats and neither had Virgil who arrived to the scene half-sleepwalking. Alma didn't bother explaining him what had happened and asked him to get Elena there as soon as possible he leaving immediately while Alma entered to tunnels. She was smaller than Doug and had to remind herself that Doug could not have entered the tunnels she did she trying to track down the large rat-dragon hybrid. Eventually Parcha asked Alma to come back from the tunnels she exiting them as Elena arrived asking what had happened.

Everyone agreed that it was dangerous to go hunt the rats in the tunnels there being a lot of them and instead they decided to try lure them out of there, especially Doug. Elena assumed all kind of sweets would work best since Doug was originally a rat and rats liked sweet food. They tried to get Doug come out of caves by offering him cake or bun if he came out and they even tried to offer him free roaming but Doug remained hidden. They though knew he was still in there someone releasing Alma's test subjects she increasing security in those parts and Tempest found some abstract drawings behind some of the wall panels when they dropped off due to accidents. Alma eventually stopped offering Doug cake after coming to conclusion he was too smart to fall for that. She though did not stop hunting him she really wanting him back, because Megabrain would laugh to her if she didn't.

Alma kept on working on her projects those including all kinds of prosthesis prototypes, potential cures for missing senses and robots made to hunt one particular rat. The others in the workshop all worked with their own projects Parcha and Tempest working with a time machine out of all things. They had yet to make it work, actually, they were running in circles and Alma just spontaneously suggested them to use sub-dimensions. She had no idea if they worked but they might and that was the big part. Tempest seemed to be interested and the duo got back to work as did Alma too, and Virgil who just fixed stuff.

Apparently using sub-dimensions was the key to the time travel and Alma left her own work to see how the time machine started developing. They managed to transfer rocks and food, and after that seemed to work without hiccups Alma suggested they tried sending living creatures to the future. To the future just because they had no chances with checking if time travel to the past was successful, and by sending stuff to the future they did get the stuff back in the future. They didn’t have many volunteers so Alma let them use her test subjects to test out time travel, and when they were proven safe, it was time to try out back-and-forths.

Along with dragons there were few miths working in the workshop and one of them volunteered to do time hops. They worked like dream and Alma had an idea of using the machine to catch the escaped experiment. Sadly, she remembered the time hops couldn’t happen if the time machine didn’t exist and that meant she couldn’t use the machine to catch her experiment after all. They tried to the future and to the past and thank to the mith they were able to verify the hops to the past were also possible. That kind of made Alma salty that the machine was not built earlier.

The scientists were again testing future hopping, this time few years to the future. The mith was once again their test subject and the coordinated had been set when some rodents came to jump on the control panel and on the wall. They were all Alma’s current test subjects and she rushed to see if she managed to catch the big dragon-rat but it was already gone when Alma reached her wing and she returned to help catch the escaped specimen. After that was done they went to wait for the mith’s return. The year had been way off, Alma not knowing how much, but they were all hopeful the mith was able to return without problems. But it didn’t. They waited ten minutes more, then few hours, they even went to sleep and woke up again. Still no mith.

Tempest was the first to become worried and asked if they should send someone to who-knew-when. Virgil knew the time to which the mith had been sent and offered to go look for it but Parcha was against that. He said they had to stay in the present to make sure the machine stayed functional so the mith was able to return from the sub-dimension in the far future. In his eyes Alma was the best candidate but he didn’t want to sent her either because she would not be able to operate the machine if the mith couldn’t either. Also, Alma didn’t want to leave her experiments alone just in case what Parcha said was true. So they decided to go out to find someone to act as their test subject.

Alma didn’t know who to ask, or rather, she knew. There were just few issues. Alma knew Elena would love to test the time machine, sadly, she had gone to visit her family. Storm would most likely try it too but alas, she wasn’t home either. Alma was unable to find anyone and returned home empty handed Tempest having had no better luck, neither did Virgil. Parcha on the other hand had found a volunteer in form of clan’s wind ambassador Pascal, and Alma was excited to see how the obelisk reacted to the time machine, which had been “decorated” by the rats while they had been gone. Alma was not going to clean and instead explained all kinds of stuff to Pascal while others made sure the machine was usable. She told what they had done with the machine, what the situation was and she even showed one of the smaller machines, a time freezer, or fast painter as Virgil called it.

Alma got her a nice place to see the events as the bigger dragons sent the obelisk to the future. After that they all waited, and waited, and waited. Everyone else seemed a bit nervous, Alma on the other hand was a bit bored and actually went to check her experiments in the middle of the waiting, partly because Pascal’s dog didn’t like her. She came back just in time for the obelisk to come back with the mith the mith explaining why it had not come back, there had not been power, the workshop had been abandoned. That peaked Alma’s interest and she listened as the mith gave more details. Virgil asked Pascal how the rest of the clan had looked if the workshop had been decaying. The obelisk though was not willing to answer and just left with his dog saying he wanted some rest. As he left he asked them to never go to that time, ever. Considering they had hard time returning from there Alma didn’t even think about trying to do go see that future.

Traits

Alma is a nature fae with lilac body and orange wings both having purple stripes. Her crests, back, eyes and borders of wings are covered by a bright green stain which has slightly glowing stripes on it. Her frills and crests are both noticeable big for her size and they look like an extra pair of wings on her face and often move like being actually wings. She also has large eyes with spiral pattern in place of pupils due to weird sickness she had once and small ears. What might be the most eye catching part of Alma however are her white artificial wings that are attached under her real wings. They can be moved regardless of her actual wings and are often used to try something that might be dangerous to touch with actual body parts. She had made them fully herself as an experiment but they had to be attached by Parcha. She though can take care of them herself and the wings can be mostly removed at any time.

Alma always looks as much like a lab dragon as she can. Her outfit is relatively simple with white lab coat, gloves and spats along with green protective glasses to cover her eyes. She carries golden tools with her just in case she needs them when out of the workshop. She also has two silver bracelets that can do more than what they look like. They have been enchanted to be in sync and Alma often places the other to be a collar on her test subject and transfer its heart beat and breathing info to her arm so she can keep an eye on them. They though don't do that when they are on the same specimen and Alma can wear them without feeling her own heart beat all the time.

Alma has very lively and somewhat deep voice making her sound like any other species than what she actually is. Though able to use normal intonations to express her mood Alma also uses normal fae signals though she has habit of flapping her frills and crests when communicating. She has strong German accent.

Small pile of green, purple and pale blue petals.

Alma is enthusiastic dragon who loves her job with passion. She spends a lot of time with it and is always curious about the results whatever they may be. Though spending most of her time alone with her job Alma isn't really a loner and will give tours and show off her experiments to anyone interested. Alma has very limited interests but they have all the attention that would have been given to others. However if someone shares her interest towards something she will fangirl over them and is very excited to see what they could create if they cooperated.

Though liking to spend time with other dragons, as long as they are not boring, Alma doesn't really consider their safety. In fact she rarely thinks about safety seriously and even if something were to go wrong she most likely won't see it being because of lack safety measures. She is very laid back and doesn't take things seriously, ever. However she tends to have some just-in-case stuff hidden somewhere at all times. Those though are not used on her test subjects, ever. Alma thinks experiments are more exciting the less safe they are.

Alma has a lot of weird creatures running around her though she doesn't really care about them. For her they are only test subjects and matter only during her experiments. She though has one she cares about and that is her yellow-throated sparrowmouse First who was her first living experiment to survive. It has artificial hands and its wings have been replaced with hooked metallic limbs but other than that it looks pretty normal. Alma lets it be most of the time but uses it to check her bracelets, sleeps with it and checks its overall condition once a week. It was her first experiment to be actually successful and it is special for her for that reason.

Small pile of green, purple and pale blue petals.

Though a nature dragon Alma is closer to lightning when it comes to skills. She can't really use nature magic other than create acid and heal small bits during her operations and she can't sense magic the same way the other feas can. When it comes to machinery however she is very skilled. She can't create anything remotely lightning like but she is very precise and able to work with small circuits with outstanding details. She can also change size of items but oddly enough they had to have metal on them for the spell to work. She is also good with chemistry and is able to tell different substances apart from each other based on their smell alone.
