Biography

Pilkku hatched without siblings and not feeling any kind of connection to other hatchlings in the hatchery he decided to start reading as soon as Kaamos taught them how to. The books that were available were rather boring in Pilkku’s mind and upon leaving the nursery he decided to visit clan’s book pile waiting the library to be built to see if there were any more interesting books. There were few but Pilkku had read through them way too fast.

While thinking about what to do with his time Pilkku met with his mother Tropi and paid a mind to how their skin patterns were slightly different Pilkku having more smaller dots while she had less bigger patches. Interested about that he decided to look more into that and went to buy books about dragon genes. He was able to find some books but most of them were outdated and the updated ones were too expensive for him to buy. He decided to buy one updated book listing all currently existing genes and few mutations that had not appeared to be inheritable yet and decided to collect rest of the data himself.

Pilkku decided to move near the hatchery to be able to record parents’ genes and how their children inherited them, if there were any nests laid that is. Since there were no nests filled and thus no eggs to study he spent most of his time trying to learn all the genes to be able to tell them at glance and later got a book about health of the eggs after coming to conclusion he might as well study that too. In the end being able to tell sick eggs apart and treat them would be more important that telling what someone’s hatchlings would look like.

Kaamos seemed confused by Pilkku having moved so near the nests and one night came to ask what he was doing. Pilkku gave a short summary of his studies and the tundra left Pilkku having expected him to ask more. Few nights later, when Pilkku was reading about egg rot, now eliminated sickness that was deadly to eggs, Kaamos came to visit him again saying if he wanted help with gathering data he had years worth of experience in watching hatchlings grow and he had better memory than what tundra’s are usually said to have. Pilkku was busy with studying about diseases and discarded the offer for the night.

Few nights later Pilkku had had enough of dead eggs and took his tools to talk with Kaamos the tundra being clearly nervous when he started to ask him about past nestings. That went on for hours Pilkku asking about certain residents and how they had inherited their genes and colors avoiding asking about non-arcane residents knowing they had hatched elsewhere while Kaamos told about residents that had moved away before Pilkku had hatched. By the time all the noticeable residents had been gone through both dragons were tired and the Sun being about to rise they both went to sleep Pilkku asking Kaamos’ help to organize the collected data the following night.

After the data was organized based on how many hatchlings had inherited what genes from their parents Pilkku returned to his books and started to notice that the genes could be grouped based on how common they were. After that he returned to study more about eggs and hatchling health and came to see eggs when the clan actually had eggs to see. Kaamos told what he knew about healthy eggs and Pilkku compared that to what the books had said about healthy arcane eggs checking clan’s eggs to see if he could find anything.

The eggs seemed healthy but one coatl hatchling, Luna, hatched grey with molting feathers when exposed to light. Tina, an unrelated coatl having had full imperial nest, said she was a bad omen incarnated and though Pilkku understood why she thought like that he did not believe that to be the case her colors seeming natural judging by his notes about color heritage. The molding feathers though did not seem natural and Pilkku decided to look more into that and went through the notes he had written about every egg to see if it could have been predicted that way.

While Pilkku was going through his notes not finding anything that could have predicted Luna’s illness Rosalin and Pernis visited the hatchery to plan something related to their temple project and left leaving three eggs for Kaamos to look after as they went to visit the earth domain. Pilkku had not paid much mind to them and was not expecting to need to do so but upon returning from their trip Rosalin came to visit him. She had noticed what he did and asked if he wanted to have an office near the new hatchery that would be in the temple and if he was alright with having the egg vault to look after.

Pilkku had not noticed having become a doctor of sorts and after thinking about the offer for some time he said yes. He though wanted Kaamos to have his own room somewhere near so he could be near to help with sick hatchlings he being better with them than Pilkku. Rosalin promised to think about that and Pilkku visited her often to make sure the office was something he could live in and made sure she did not forget Kaamos. Pilkku had noticed how sad he was when there were no hatchlings to look after and Pilkku had assumed he felt a bit lonely he being a bit timid to visit others himself.

Eventually the temple was ready and Pilkku joined Kaamos as he carried nest shards to the new hatchery. Moving them wasn’t hard with Pilkku knowing levitation spells and once they had all moved to the right location Kaamos made sure they were ready for nesting while Pilkku went to see his new office and carried his studies there. Once Kaamos sounded like being ready Pilkku called him to his office he probably having not noticed the room next to his. Pilkku explained that the extra room was for him and not feeling like needing to say anything else he having already explained it through and through he turned around to organize his workplace and prepared to his job as nesting doctor.

Pilkku was mostly just by himself in his new office he rarely needing to come out he usually studying and updating his sheets with new mutations that became new heritable genes. Though not part of his job he did help Kaamos with his son Borealis who Milla had told needed some practice with independence. Later, after she came to help with teaching, Kaamos had idea of asking Kaiku to teach hatchlings Pilkku needing to make the offer as Kaamos needed to clean the nests after the younglings left.

After that nights were all the same for Pilkku until Rosalin and Pernis came yet again to talk about his office and new temple. Pilkku had not much to add he being happy with the one he already had and the architects just took inspiration from there Pilkku though making sure they did remember Kaamos, again. Soon after that the clan was supposed to start making the new temple but somewhere Arcanist and his scholars opened an old portal Pilkku preparing to see its effects on eggs, mostly in ones that were in the egg vault the clan having no other eggs. The familiars though showed more by becoming very hostile Pilkku and Kaamos giving theirs to Pinkapi until they calmed down, once Pilkku found his small pet.

Life in the clan got bad even when Pilkku didn't feel its full scale the clan being almost at war following the familiar meltdown. Pilkku spent his time studying worried of how the current effects could affect the eggs they were guarding while Kaamos dealt with plague dragons, and later arcane dragons, having arrived to the lair. The lair was finally devoid of visitors weeks after the familiar incident and Pilkku was still studying, this time about the radiation of the portal the research being finally ready, while Kaamos went to get some fresh air after Borealis came to tell that the leaders had vanished. Pilkku was not expecting anything new it having been weeks like that and he was genuinely surprised by a sudden earthquake he diving to the ground to avoid injuries.

Pilkku had no idea what had caused the earthquake and was rather confused. Kaamos running into the office giving a fast explanation about summoning and Shade didn't make him feel any clearer, instead it made him scared. Pilkku had very flat emotional range and feeling fear was very confusing. He was not sure what was happening or going to happen Kaamos taking a stand between the egg vault and the entrance scared but ready to fight. Eventually Shadow and Sapny arrived they asking Kaamos to move he standing there like a statue being unmoved by the two's scary presence. Pilkku tried to follow their conversation the atmosphere being very threatening his heart skipping a beat when Shadow turned her unblinking eyes to him.

Pilkku wasn't sure what happened but he woke up in the healing offices, which were more than full of traffic, Borealis saying he had been a dodo for a bit over a week. Kaamos had yet to wake up and while waiting that Borealis explained what had happened a short summary being that Shadow and Sapny had tried to summon the Shade which had been prevented, and the eggs were all safe. After getting rid of his fuzzy head Pilkku joined healers helping them with the mess after which he returned to maintain their foster eggs. Months later the clan got its new temple ready, thanks to a little bit of help from fire, and Pilkku moved there with Kaamos continuing his life like it had been before.

Small pile of pink petals.

Life was peaceful after the Summoning Incident, at least for Pilkku who spent most of his time away from others. In fact, his life was so peaceful that it was borderline boring and the decline is clan’s nesting rates didn’t help the situation. His latest actual patient was Orion who had some issues with his eyes and the one before the skydancer was so long ago that Pilkku didn’t even remember who that had been or what the issue had been. To combat the risk of having his knowledge and skills rust due to lack of use he had started to attend lectures in the Observatory both as a student and as a teacher. That had gone on for some time by then and travelling to the heart of the arcane had become part of the routine to the nesting doctor.

It was late autumn some time after the auraboas had appeared, the earth holiday had started as had a magical library excavation and Pilkku had decided to leave the Observatory before things got too heated up in there. He was walking down the path towards the lair all by himself in darkness of the early evening. On that front things were like they had been every time until then. He was about to reach the Fairy Grove, one of clan’s defense sectors, when a worrying smell caught his attention, the smell of blood. Pilkku stopped on his tracks and listened the silent wood eyes scanning the surrounding trees, he didn’t notice anything dangerous. After coming to conclusion that he was relatively safe he decided to follow the smell. Maybe someone was badly hurt and needed help.

Pilkku followed the smell and eventually it led him to an auraboa. The body was not moving and it felt cold to touch, it was clear there was nothing Pilkku could do. He watched the dead dragon, clearly very young, and wondered what he should do. He probably should get the body to Kupari so both the body and soul could be dealt properly. Problem was that he had no hope of getting the body to the lair all by himself, it was way bigger than what he was. There were few fairies flying nearby and though Pilkku could have asked them to get some help he knew they were a bit too unpredictable for that; they could help or they could turn him into a gecko for “bossing” them around. The risk was too high and so Pilkku turned to his second option. He walked to the nearest tree, touched it and asked it to get some help. If he was lucky Vatta got the message, although he was skeptical. The third option would have been to ask help from the Grove but Pilkku didn’t want to interact with the rules of that area.

While Pilkku waited for the help to arrive, hopefully, he took a closer look at the body. The cause of death seemed to be a clean cut on the throat, similar to one that had killed Sleight, until someone had turned him into a living dead, and from that Pilkku was able to deduce that the killer was Marie. Pilkku didn’t know much of the spirit but he knew she was very dangerous to encounter. It didn’t necessarily end with death but if one as much as made one wrong expression they were up to a swift end. The young auraboa had gotten unlucky with the encounter, they had stood no chance.

Vatta had miraculously gotten Pilkku’s message and he had arrived with the rangers to help with the body. The body was so long that all males had to help with carrying it but ultimately they managed to get it to the sanctuary. There Kupari prepared the body to be burned and few sympathetic residents arrived to acts as the audience for the final journey. Pilkku didn’t see himself as particularly sympathetic but he took part in the ceremony as the dragon who had discovered the body. After the body had turned to cinders and ultimately ash the residents left the sanctuary and the priestess was left to handle the rest.

After the holidays and excavations calmed down Pilkku did one final visit to the Observatory before the mimics started to roam. He had attended a lecture about the latest research on topic of how magic affected eggs and hatchlings differently than it did adults. After the lecture he was once again making his way back to the lair all by himself. He was once again approaching the clan area when he noticed Sleight not that far away and he stopped to evaluate the situation. The blinded spiral had not been right in the head after being resurrected, in fact he was almost unnaturally hostile towards everyone else except his mother. To make matters worse he had shadow knives he could use to “defend” himself if needed, Pilkku was not sure why Dogoda had given him those when she knew he could not differentiate friend from foe.

Sleight seemed to have heard Pilkku walk nearby as he was franticly scanning the area with his ears, at least it looked like that. Pilkku knew the spiral would attack if he heard him but he didn’t want to just stay still waiting the undead to move elsewhere; it was nighttime and almost middle of a winter, it was cold to just stand in the middle of a forest. Pilkku decided to try move forward very carefully, if he was lucky the spiral would not spot him. First few steps went well but then he stepped on a twig that was hiding underneath the frosty leaves. The twig snapped and with the wood having no other sounds Sleight heard that clear as night.

Sleight fired his knives to Pilkku’s general direction and after calling his weapons back the spiral did that again. The blinded spiral had no way of aiming his knives but they still managed to hit Pilkku who had not had time to react properly, perhaps they were partly homing. Trying to get away from the thrown knives Pilkku moved forward but the sound alerted Sleight of where he was and he was able to keep throwing the knives to his directions. Pilkku lifted his wings to act as a shield but he soon lowered them when he heard something attacking Sleight. The spiral escaped fast and the attacker came closer to check on Pilkku.

The attacker looked exactly like the auraboa Pilkku had found some time ago, just a little less solid and more transparent. She was apparently the same dragon as after asking if Pilkku was alright she asked if he was the dragon who had found her body. Pilkku answered affirmatively and the auraboa thanked him before telling her name was Tipi. Pilkku likewise introduced himself as he checked his injuries. They were painful but mostly just small cuts, most of them would dry up before he reached the healers in the lair. Tipi offered to escort Pilkku to the lair and not really wanting to walk alone smelling like blood Pilkku accepted the offer.

As the two made their way towards the lair they talked about all kind of stuff though mostly relating to themselves. Tipi told how she had left her home in the canopy of the Behemoth in order to learn more of the world and she had tried to reach the other end of the known world thus arriving to the Isles. She also told that she had been interested in becoming a dentist, though her size would have made that a bit difficult, and she verified Pilkku’s guess that Marie had killed her. The old spirit had tried to recruit the young auraboa or something and that had then escalated to put it mildly. Pilkku in turn told about what he did for living and shared some information of the clan with the curious spirit.

Tipi had escorted Pilkku all the way to the healing offices where Malvadust made sure the cuts would not get infected. Tipi followed the “operation” and once it was finished she returned to the wood. Pilkku felt sorry for the young auraboa, she had been so excited to see the world and meet new species but her dream had been cut short. While he was resting in the healing offices he talked with Malvadust who likewise felt sorry for the young ghost. The herbalist though had an idea of how to give the spirit the knowledge she craved and to give Pilkku something to do; he could start sharing his knowledge with Tipi. Pilkku agreed with Malvadust; as a nesting doctor he knew a lot about different species and with that logic he would be ideal when it came to teaching about differences between breeds. To add to that he barely had anything to do anyway.

Pilkku didn’t need to stay in the healing offices for long, his injuries were very minor after all. After leaving the offices he returned to his normal routine though now he often encountered Tipi on his way back home. The spirit had been excited when Pilkku had mentioned he could teach her all kinds of stuff. He was mainly thinking about things related to his expertise but he would eventually run out of stuff to teach and so he eventually started to bring Tipi some books they could study together. The two usually met during the nights when Pilkku was at home doing otherwise nothing. During the other nights the doctor was either at the Observatory or making his way there or back while the spirit hanged out with other ghosts. Apparently one had started to teach her fighting techniques so she could defend herself and others. Pinkku was happy that she had found something to do.

Traits

Pilkku is a green arcane nocturne with spotted body and wings them being lighter than his body. His belly in pale in color having same shade as his spines while his throat frill has similar color and pattern to his wings. There isn’t much outstanding about Pilkku except maybe he having four fingers and three toes instead of natural three and two. He is also known to use his wings to lean on. His eyes have turned darker with age.

After having become clan’s nesting doctor Pilkku has picked up the most generic doctor’s outfit he could find. He has vestment, hat, tube scarf, wing and tail covers and slippers all green with blue orbs he not wanting then to clash with his colors too much and they fit with his green notebook he has used since the early days. He also wears copper glasses to allow him read better in low light or just be able to see small text in general. The wing covers are the most dirty part of his outfit he often leaning on his wings when writing notes.

Pilkku has very monotone and bored voice which rarely sounds interested. He has ironically more fae sounding voice than what his mother had when she was a fae. He has clear Azerbaijani accent.

Small pile of pink petals.

Pilkku is rather dull and nonreactive dragon reacting to everything like someone just told that the room had air in it. He is outstanding nocturne as he has not shown any signs of mimicking others and some speculate it is because of the spell that was casted on his mother after she was breed changed. She was originally a fae and it could explain why Pilkku seems more fae like than most faes in the lair. He is very deadpan, not even big unexpected events can make him show emotions on his face. He thinks reacting to events doesn’t need huge emotional bursts no matter how big or small they are and though he doesn’t understand why others react so strongly he doesn’t judge them based on that knowing reacting being more normal than being a soured whole milk in a pot in every situation.

Pilkku isn’t very social dragon and there are rumors that he doesn’t care about anyone or anything. Though he doesn’t do much to prove that wrong the statement is still incorrect, he wouldn’t have accepted work as doctor if he didn’t care. Though looking like being uninterested about everything Pilkku does notice a lot of things and if he sees chance at making something good for someone, especially someone towards who he is grateful, he does it. If someone doesn’t mind uninterested looking company Pilkku won’t mind someone joining him as long as they are not actively trying to ruin his work. He is overall calm and modest dragon dedicated to do best in his job.

Pilkku has a pet friend gecko Kastehelmi living in his office. She can’t talk and interactions with Pilkku and Kastehelmi seem less than minimal the gecko often being by herself hunting down bugs that could threaten Pilkku’s research. If not doing that she comes to see her owner study maybe getting few scratch from him. Pilkku doesn’t usually worry about his pet or even notice her for that matter she being more of an animal living in the office than his pet. He though doesn’t mind if she decided to sleep with him or wake him up.

Small pile of pink petals.

Pilkku is decent with magic being able to use basic levitation and size altering spells even on slightly bigger objects. He can also use other spells most notable being his ability to copy text from one notebook to another, erase ink stains with spells and make lines with magic if ink happens to run out. He can also move parts of text to another place in paper which is useful when he wants to organize the data he has collected. He prefers collecting his own data over buying that.

Pilkku has studied genes and their heredity as well as some egg and hatchling sicknesses and has great knowledge of all of them. He has somewhat accurate sheets of how different genes inherit when compared to others and how colors behave in same situation. After the egg mutations started to happen he has worked to understand them and other mutations, be them physical, mental or magical, better and tries to find signs on eggs that might have mutated hatchlings in them. He also knows quite a lot diseases that can hit both eggs and hatchlings and knows how to deal with them. He though does not know any healing spells to heal them himself.
