Biography

Malvadust was curious and experimental from a very start wanting to study almost everything new. After Kaamos told him a story about a fire snapper, who upon eating fire flowers gained an ability to shoot fire balls and defeated a centaur clan by himself because of that, he became very curious about effects of plants and started to study them. He started by observing what his food might do and was curious to test that out but the effects were not like in the story. That though didn’t kill his curiosity and upon learning to read he started to study plants with books.

Though plants didn’t seem to have mythical new ability -powers they still had something going on with them. The more Malvadust read about plants the more he started to notice how some of them were said to have healing properties and upon taking a closer look some became many. He was interested about those plants and started to write down information about them across different sources to learn more about them.

Eventually he had notebook full of information but most of the information was about plants he had only seen pictures of. He wanted to see them in real life and maybe try if they worked as books claimed. He though didn’t want to go out and look for them himself as he had not been outside the lair that often and might have gotten into dangerous situations because of that, and he didn’t know where most of them grew.

After trying to figure out where he could find actual specimens of herbs Malvadust heard Fen had collected some and was keeping them in his nest. Malvadust wanted to ask him if he could borrow some of them but he couldn’t find the fae and not wanting to wait he decided to sneak into his nest. The nest was small for tundra but that didn’t bother Malvadust when he saw all the plants, bugs and pieces of fur in there. What he was most interested in were hanging from the ceiling and he picked them up trying to not drop them with his horns.

Malvadust had gone through few dozens of plants when a greeting from behind scared him and he dropped some plants from the ceiling as he raised his head. Upon turning he saw a fae looking at him and not being able to tell if he was angry he started to explain his reasons while picking the dropped plants back up. Once he started to tell about healing properties some plants had Fen got curious and asked Malvadust to tell him more and Malvadust delivered. After finishing Fen was clearly very excited and let Malvadust borrow his plants and even shared his own research notes about their habitats with him in case he wanted to look for them himself.

Malvadust was grateful for Fen’s information and help, and some nights later after expanding his knowledge a bit more he came to see the fae and inform him about more medical properties. Fen was very curious about those and Malvadust listened as he speculated how those properties could affect other living beings and be used by them. That inspired Malvadust to try to use their effects and his knowledge to help others and started to focus more on using herbs to heal others than memorizing their effects and other attributes.

Malvadust started by experimenting the effects of herbs on others adding mixes later to his to study -list. He didn’t see himself as healer but as his clan mates heard of his treatments that worked for more mundane problems like itchy scales he started to get customers. Malvadust was happy to help his clan mates and when he was asked if he’d like an official healer status he saw a change of doing herb experiments and accepted the job.

At first Malvadust enjoyed his job being able to mix herbs, use them to heal others and see how they worked. He was even able to continue studying in between taking care of his clan mates but though clan didn’t usually end up with hurt residents there were few instances when someone had gotten few bruises during gathering. They were rarely anything major and he was able to take care of them but he also had to explain his patients how to take care of their bruises and as time went on he started to get more and more patients almost draining his study time out of existence.

Malvadust didn’t hate his job but he started to reconsider it after having to deal with Halloween. The mirror had scared Abele and the pearlcatcher had reacted by hitting the younger dragon her claw piercing Halloween’s eye. Malvadust as healer was asked to pull that out and he didn’t like it at all. To top that after Abele’s claw was gotten out he had to check Halloween’s eye and not being able to heal it with his herbs had to make the decision to pull it out altogether. He was not too sensitive when it came to nasty things but throughout the situation he felt like having eaten too many emetic russulas.

After that Malvadust tried to rest a little bit and was somewhat able to do that. Next slightly bigger incident was when Astral got cough from a failed magical experiment but it wasn’t natural in origin and Malvadust couldn’t do much to help her. He though felt bad for her and not wanting to feel like an useless healer he started to look ways to fix her condition. Malvadust read through few dozens of book trying to find something that could help the wildclaw but all potential solution were spells and he wasn’t good with them. Eventually he gave up, returned the books and carried on noticing the situation wasn’t harmful for Astral.

Malvadust started to reconsider if he was actually suited for the healer’s job. What he wanted to do most was to study herbs but the clan seemed to expect so much more from him. After clan’s smithy collapsed Malvadust was brought two faes one already dead and the other not looking any better. He had strong feeling he could not save the other one but did try to look for an answer anyway. He found nothing and decided to give Rusty some herbs to ease her pain before stepping out.

There he met with Tapio who was worried about his daughter and mate. Malvadust struggled to answer him and avoided looking him into eyes not wanting to see his pain. He let Tapio go inside and went to the Hoard himself to get the faes out of his mind. When accepting the job of a healer he had not expected to having to deal with death of his clan mates.

Death of the faes haunted Malvadust and trying to keep them out of his head he read and cleaned his herb storage. One night, however, he noticed missing a lot of herbs but he didn’t remember using them. Some of them were very rare and Malvadust went to meet Fen in hopes of having him been the one to borrow them.

He found the fae arriving to the clan with a scavenging group and didn’t hesitate with his questions. Malvadust became a bit worried when Fen said he had not borrowed his plants and started to fear if someone had stolen them. Fen hoped that would not be the case and promised to bring Malvadust new plants if he happened to find them. Malvadust was grateful for that and left going straight to his storage to make sure no more herbs were missing.

A month later Fen had managed to find some herbs for Malvadust but not enough and the rarest ones were still missing. He wished that there would not be severe injuries until his storage had recovered but the fate was on a cruel mood. During a great storm Storm the storm flier went missing and was found later severely injured. She was brought to Malvadust and after checking her he came to conclusion he needed specific herbs he didn’t have. He didn’t want to worry his clan mates but he had to explain that he couldn’t help the spiral at all without his herbs.

That was when Kanerva, older healer and Storm’s mother, stepped to the scene. She asked to see her daughter and Malvadust let her into the room wondering where the pearlcatcher had been hiding for so long. She would have been very helpful for him during the passing months. Kanerva checked Storm and once she raised her head she said she needed aether cherries. She looked to Malvadust with oddly hateful eyes and he explained he didn’t have any. The only one they had ever found had disappeared over a month ago.

Malvadust listened as Kanerva cursed the Shade, all the deities, him and herself trying to hide that from him. She turned back to Storm and Malvadust confused by the cursing asked what it was for. Kanerva didn’t answer but talked to herself how that must have been punishment from the Arcanist. Malvadust still didn’t understood and asked again being hit with a massive shock when Kanerva told she had burnt his herbs.

Malvadust was confused and asked the pearlcatcher why she would have done that. Kanerva explained, with cold eyes, how he had taken her role in the lair to the point nobody even remembered her. Malvadust was sorry about that as he had not meant to do that and he would have asked Kanerva to take his patients if he had known that was the case. He told he could look for new cherries, as an apology, but Kanerva refused saying she rather found another method than took the risk of him stealing her spot.

Malvadust was not sure if he should be more offended for having his help rejected for such a ridiculous reason or having Kanerva willing to risk life of her daughter to get recognition. He tried to make Kanerva realize that but the pearlcatcher was stubborn until her sister Hattara stepped in. She asked them to stop arguing and repeated that Storm might die if they didn’t cooperate. She had also managed to save some of the plants Kanerva had burnt and though some of them were helpful to ease Storm’s condition Malvadust didn’t see them that useful in the situation.

Kanerva tried to use some magic to make something out of them while Malvadust left the healing offices. He found Fen and explained what their situation was asking the fae to look for cherries which they needed badly. Fen promised to do what he could and Malvadust returned to see what he could do to Storm in the meantime. Without cherries he couldn’t do much as couldn’t Kanerva either so they focused on making sure Storm didn’t suffer too much.

The following nights were stressful for both healers as they struggled to keep Storm alive. Fen took his time with the cherries and the magical explosion from a failed attempt to summon the Shade made everyone nervous. If something positive the explosion seemed to cause sprouting of aether cherries near the lair and Fen was able to bring them to Malvadust. With the cherries the healers were able to start working but they didn’t agreed how they should be used. Malvadust was sure they’d get the best results with a medicine while Kanerva was sure they should use cherries combined with a spell.

They started arguing but stopped once a foul smell reached their noses and they noticed Storm’s arms mortifying. Upon noticing that Kanerva suggested they’d use both and Malvadust rushed to make the medicine before it was too late. They used their creations and prayed every known deity that they were not late.

Both healers stayed up keeping an eye on Storm and though she seemed to strengthen her arms did not and Malvadust suggested they’d amputate them. Kanerva was not willing to do that knowing how much Storm loved flying but upon taking a closer look she also came to the conclusion that it was their best option. However, before they could even start preparing Tempest joined the conversation. She had heard them talking half accidentally and wondered why they didn’t make new arms for Storm.

Tempest was a lightning fanatic and Malvadust didn’t quite think lightning themed junk would help them. Giving Storm mechanical arms didn’t sound like a good idea though she herself was willing to try. Both Malvadust and Kanerva were unwilling to let her decide considering how long she had been unconscious and how weak she still was. She though thought it was worth trying and Tempest returned to her workshop to build the new arms.

The following nights Malvadust spent making sure Storm stayed healthy and once Virgil informed the arms were ready he took the opportunity to rest. Kanerva took the job to attach the new arms with Tempest and her coworkers and other than making needed medicines beforehand he was not needed. After Storm got her arms Malvadust made sure to deliver her medicines she needed before coming to a conclusion that she didn’t need them anymore.

Some time after that Kanerva came to meet Malvadust bringing some herbs to him. She wanted to apologize that she had let jealousy get better of her and Malvadust not seeing reason to be mad at her forgave her. When she was about to leave he called her back saying they should start working together and even asked if Kanerva could teach him how to combine herbs and magic. She promised to do that and after they rested they organized the healing offices to have their special offices close to each others.

Later, after the Night of the Nocturne, while studying how to combine plants and magic Megabrain came to visit the two healers. He told that Nova, clan's arcane ambassador, had fallen into his cauldron. Both healers knew that was not good and followed the alchemist into his lab. In there they found Nova shaking on the floor with slightly bleached scales. Kanerva was fast to ask what had been in the cauldron and Megabrain started to explain with useless information. Kanerva seemingly noticed that too and took Nova with her asking if Malvadust could figure out the details instead.

Malvadust listened as the fae explained everything like he was stupid while he checked if he could find the named plants in his lab. While he was doing that he found a cage with a pocketmouse in it. Malvadust asked Megabrain what it was and he told it was one of his experiments. Before Malvadust was able to ask more clan's familiar keeper Pinkapi stepped in and took the mouse with her Malvadust being able to smell her anger towards the alchemist. He decided to leave too having had to stand enough of Megabrain's explanations.

Kanerva worked hard trying to heal Nova but after few nights he had bleached even more and started to look less like a dragon. Malvadust feeling something was off decided to return to Megabrain's lab to ask about the liquid once again. He felt like the alchemist dragged his answers on purpose and was struggling to stay calm when they heard coughing from the door. Astral, now working as Nova's assistant, had arrived and Megabrain gave her the same explanation as he had given to him with way too many words.

After that was done Megabrain gave her a bottle full of stuff he said had been in the cauldron and Malvadust wondered why he had not given that to him. As they left the lab Astral told she could try to heal Nova pointing out how tired both healers looked. Malvadust was grateful for that having not slept much lately. He had went through books and kept an eye on Nova just in case Kanerva fell asleep. Before he however went to rest he gave Astral few of his books and helped to name some plant for her.

After that both Malvadust and Kanerva noticed there was very little they could do to Nova. He had turned into a crimson emperor and both being confused by that focused in keeping him fed. Eventually Astral was able to find a cure and also revealed that Megabrain had lied to them when he had pushed Nova into his cauldron to do exactly what he had done. Though shocked by that it made sense to both Malvadust and Kanerva as they had noticed how the alchemist did not answer clearly and how oddly helpful he had been to help them to take care of Nova during these nights. Having the situation solved and some time to rest the healers took a break Malvadust making them calming tea.

Things carried on normally until one night Pinkapi brought two unconscious bodies to them, Witchi and her familiar. Barely a night later they were brought two lifeless bodies one of which was Malvadust's brother Mustamalva. He was not that close with his older brother but he still had an uneasy feeling when examining his dead body noticing signs of poisoning in it as well as in the other body. Witchi had also been poisoned but had somehow stayed alive maybe due to her near dead familiar. While he was doing research on bodies they were told that Karmiini was missing and Malvadust prepared for third dead body.

Nights passed by Kanerva helping Malvadust fight the odious feeling the bodies gave him. Eventually Karmiini was found alive and Malvadust took the job to make antidotes for her as she was badly poisoned while Kanerva took care of Witchi who had gotten worse after possibly saving few lives. Karmiini eventually woke up and Malvadust was happy to notice her sight and hearing still worked. She though soon started panicking and tried to get up demanding to know where Nobu was. Nobu had been the one behind all the poisonings and Malvadust needed Kanerva's help to keep her in bed and convince clan's judge that her son was captured and she was safe. She asked about the other poisoned and Malvadust could not answer knowing the other one had been her son.

Malvadust made Karmiini the antidotes and calming drinks until both he and Kanerva were sure she had recovered enough. The trial against Nobu started as soon as Karmiini left the healing offices. Neither Malvadust or Kanerva was there even though one should have been there to prove the obvious, that four, five with a familiar included, had been poisoned two of which had died. Malvadust though did not feel like going in there and visited his brother until the bodies were burned Kanerva being with him during those moments.

Small pile of pink petals.

When having some free time Malvadust often went to look for herbs with Fen sometimes being joined by his druid friend Vatta. The nature dragon was a great help when he happened to be able to join though that was rather rarely as he also acted as the border guard for the clan. He though was able to sense if rare plants were about to bloom somewhere on the isle and often gave them hints if he was not able to get the plants to them himself.

One afternoon Fen came to visit Malvadust telling how Vatta had told him about a soon happening blooming outside the wood, and by soon he meant the following night. Malvadust was luckily free during those hours and after telling about the event to Kanerva he started to get ready. He left at the sunset with Fen and fae brothers Stratospher and Trooper who were going to see a light show where they were going and Fen had invited them with them. Malvadust carried the two on his back until they arrived and started to collect herbs as the brothers started to count starts until the light show started.

Eventually the sky started to glow pink and Malvadust turned to see unnatural pink lightning clouds in the sky. It didn't take long for a weird creature to appear among the clouds and Malvadust's fur stood up as it screamed firing a lightning at them. He barely avoided it and seeing the creature diving towards him its claws ready he hurried to pick Fen and the brothers and started to run as fast as he could hearing the thing hit the ground behind them.

Fen told it was chasing them and Malvadust tried to speed up feeling his legs screaming for mercy. They approached the wood and Malvadust glided down the steep hill when he heard Fen screaming that Stratospher had fallen. He stopped on a small step and saw the thing having wounded Trooper badly. The fae fought back as Stratospher flied towards them Malvadust thinking if he should go help Trooper and take risk of all of them getting wounded or leave Trooper and get others to safety.

He watched in horror as the thing shot Trooper down and seeing the fae fall he believed the thing had killed him. A small cloaked fae rushed from between steps and drove the creature away catching falling Trooper right after that. She flied towards them and yelled them to run and Malvadust forced his legs to move as fast as possible. His legs wanted to give up as soon as they reached the lair and he fell only to be ordered by Nemo to get Trooper to Kanerva. He got up as soon as possible, picked the wounded dragon up and rushed to the office.

He screamed Kanerva before reaching the room and she was at the door when he finally reached it. He handed her brother to her panting too much to tell what had happened. She started to heal his wounds while Malvadust took the moment to rest being rather sure he had passed out for a moment. Fen had come with Stratospher to have something for his shock and Malvadust fearing he still smelled like the situation asked Kanerva to do that finding her better to soothe her brother while he continued treating Trooper.

The wounds were very nasty and the lightning that had struck him made most spells bounce off Trooper forcing them to use medicines to heal his wounds. They managed to stop the bleeding but he was still in critical state Malvadust fearing he might die. Kanerva had brought now calmed down Stratospher to see his brother and having done what they could Malvadust explained the events to Kanerva.

Kanerva was shocked when she realized that what had happened to Trooper could have happened to her another brother and partner as well. Malvadust swore he was alright but 'may have' was on Kanerva's side. She was very nervous about what might have happened and what might happen next time and Malvadust could not make her calm down.

Kanerva really wanted to keep Malvadust, and possible her brothers as well, safe and fearing she could not do that as pearlcatcher she turned herself into a guardian. Malvadust was left with very little options but to adapt to Kanerva's new form. It took a very long time for her to dare to let him out of her sight as the creature's screams were heard quite often after the incident. Evetually he was able to leave but Kanerva asked him to take her with them if going out of the wood without a gathering group so she could protect him being a lot bigger now. Malvadust made sure he had heard her request.

Kanerva spent more time with Trooper than what Malvadust did, because they were siblings, but Malvadust did most of the treatment to the fae. He felt the situation was very similar to the time Mustamalva had died and not wanting Kanerva to feel the same he had he made his best to keep Trooper alive. He eventually woke up while Malvadust was resting following changing his wraps and Malvadust felt like finally stopping stressing. Kanerva's reasoning and act of breed change though kept bothering him and he tried to not think what Kanerva would be ready to do if the situation repeated.

Small pile of pink petals.

Life after the incident was rather peaceful once Kupari managed to deal with the creature. That though didn't affect Malvadust Kanerva remaining rather overprotective towards him and seemingly had a big argument with Hattara as well. Malvadust had tried to solve the situation but Kanerva was stubborn like she had always been and all Malvadust was able to do was work around her.

Few months later Rosalin having designed the temple in where the healers lived came to suggest her new, bigger temple design asking what the healers thought about it. Malvadust thought it was too big but Kanerva liked it and Malvadust didn't want to risk arguing with her she having just had problems with one of her spells. Rosalin left with their feedback and few nights later the clan held a conference about the temple project.

The conference was nothing special but as it ended the clan got news about a portal being opened and weird creatures from the other side were coming through. Malvadust didn't really care about that but few nights after the first creatures wandered into the lair clan's familiars turned hostile. Both healers were unaffected by that Kanerva having no pets and Malvadust never seeing his own. Few though got hurt by their own and the healers treated their small injuries Malvadust starting to wonder how Fen was doing he being tasked with studying the new creatures.

The clan tried to go on the best it could in the situation being followed by an attack against another clan. Healers stayed out of all of that and had more free time after conflicts with familiar decreased in quantity dragons and familiars starting to avoid each others. Malvadust usually spent that free time by walking across the lair to see how things were, assuming Kanerva let him, and one night found Fen napping on his research. Upon waking up he explained having not meant to fall asleep looking so tired he barely realized it was Malvadust waking him up.

Fen had looked scared when waking up and Malvadust felt bad for him assuming he was under a lot of pressure due to everything going on. There was very little Malvadust could do to help his friend but he still wanted to do something. He went to his herb storage scaring away his pet that had been hunting bugs in there, picked up the sleep aiding herbs and brought them to Fen ignoring Kanerva asking where he was going. He gave the herbs to Fen and told him to eat them somewhere he could sleep. Fen took his time to process what Malvadust said before leaving thanking Malvadust as he went while Malvadust returned to the offices.

Malvadust had barely reached the temple when an earthquake stopped him the earth rising to wall the lair. Kanerva rushed to check Malvadust once it ended the two making their way to the center of the lair where everyone was confused. While they were trying to figure out what had happened Shadow and Sapny stepped fort declaring they would summon the Shade in few days, and the clan would be sacrificed to do so. Malvadust wondered if Fen was better asleep or awake when Kanerva covered him with her wing growling to the two Shade fanatics.

The two followed the fanatics to the temple after seeing them go there but decided to not deal with them it being stupid from them. They stayed in the offices the entire time the situation was going on Malvadust being unable to check how Fen was doing or if he was still asleep. They eventually stepped out when the eclipse happened their bones being taken over as a creature emerged from the ground. They were forced to bow Malvadust closing his ear from the noise inside his head. He was sure he should have listened it probably explaining why he ended up fighting Kanerva before they were both freed from the creature's control.

With the clan starting an attack against the Shade summoners Malvadust saw his chance and went running towards Fen's nest wanting to know how he was doing. Kanerva ran right behind the tundra he barely avoiding the spells being redirected with other spells. He had stopped to avoid some kind of wind spell Kanerva being able to catch up with him but before she could do anything Malvadust saw a portal opening behind her an earth spell from there turning Kanerva into stone before she crumpled to pieces.

Everything happened so fast Malvadust was barely able to tell what happened. He barely heard Fen when he arrived with his trusty kelpie all the battles still going yet totally mute. Malvadust needed some time and asked Fen to leave. He stayed next to Kanerva's remains until battles ended too scared to touch the stones. Once everything started to calm down Hattara arrived to see her sister and Malvadust attempted to leave Karmiini stopping him telling there were a lot of wounded. Malvadust made his way to the offices where he tried to do his job and avoid thinking about Kanerva but he constantly found himself asking if she could take some of the patients.

Malvadust worked hard there being a lot of wounded mainly by magic and he feared running out of calming plants. Few nature healers asked Malvadust to rest at least a little but Malvadust refused until he passed out and woke up being guarded by Fen's Neva. Malvadust knew better than to fight with the kelpie and stayed in the bed while Fen had taken his job. While in bed Malvadust was finally able to process what had happened and slowly accepted the fact that Kanerva was gone. Though she had been a bit stubborn she had been a great partner and Malvadust had to learn to work by himself he now being clan's only healer. He said his final goodbye to her at the altar when Kupari let all the spirits free before carrying on with his life.

Small pile of pink petals.

Malvadust worked alone for months until Noonan decided she wanted to become healer. Malvadust did not like her methods but tolerated her she being able to do something for magical injuries which he could not do. That belief though had very weak basis Noonan causing quite a bit of damage with her “experiments” as she described her treatments. It also didn’t take long for Malvadust to notice young wildclaw’s dismissive attitude towards him. That started to annoy Malvadust soon enough and Noonan’s constant “accidents” didn’t really help with that.

During the spring the clan had had an incident with a criminal mage sneaking in. They were taken down before they could cause too much harm and event as a whole had barely anything to do with Malvadust. Few dragons were turned to other breeds or familiars but the clan looked for help from Nova that being smart decision as Malvadust could not have done anything. However, that wasn't all that had happened as soon enough Puolanka came to look for his half-sister Idaea. Malvadust had not seen the half bird half spiral girl in ages and neither had Noonan. Malvadust though found it a bit odd that she had suddenly started to keep strongly smelling plants all over her office around the time the spiral had supposedly vanished.

Something told Puolanka that Idaea had visited the healers and after finding some feathers from Noonan’s office he came to interrogate Malvadust. Noonan was not the most open dragons towards Malvadust, quite the contrary she hid a lot of things from him, because he didn’t like her methods, and the tundra couldn’t really tell if the wildclaw was hiding something. She was but he did not know if it had anything to do with the situation. Noonan’s new scent garden though seemed like solid lead for the nocturne Puolanka asking if Malvadust could smell a dead body over them. Malvadust had good smell and he was sure he could. He just really hoped Puolanka didn’t think Noonan was hiding a body.

Noonan was not, luckily, hiding a body but Idaea the wildclaw’s treatment attempt having made her curse worse. Malvadust was not sure if he was angrier about she hiding the accident or she acting carelessly but he knew he was angry. He made that very clear to the younger dragon and told her to ask his help if she screwed up, or better yet, did not know how to solve the situation preventing being usually easier than fixing. Noonan got a major warning from Tinker after the clan heard from the incident but she was allowed to keep her work, for now.

Ever since Noonan had started to work as healer Malvadust had noticed his herb storage seemed to always miss some plants no matter how many times he refilled it. It was never much, mainly just the more common herbs the missing herbs potentially being just a miscalculation on his part. During early summer Malvadust had once again been collecting herbs and when he returned to the offices he saw they had two patients, although Merisara died soon after. Apparently she had gotten many wasp stings. The other, Tilia, was still alive but she did not respond. Noonan assured she would be alright and the two healers decided to took turns to check how her situation changed.

It was Malvadust’s turn to check Tilia and he was happy to see her awake. He asked how she was she saying she was fine looking oddly nervous. Noonan arrived to the room after hearing the two talk and she too was happy to see Tilia awake but something was wrong. She did not know who Tilia was supposed to be and when Malvadust asked who she was if not Tilia she saying she was Flora. Malvadust asked few more questions, mainly to see if she knew who the healers were and if she knew what had happened she eventually refusing to answer. After waiting her to reply for some time Malvadust walked out of the room demanding Noonan to tell what had happened once they were far enough from the imperial. She claimed having given the two imperials antidote, one of her mixtures, but beyond that she had no idea what had happened and Malvadust decided to return to Tilia to try to figure out what was going on.

When Malvadust returned to Tilia’s room she greeted him very differently than when he had walked in previously. She now said she was Rose and Malvadust was able to tell she was not the same dragon as Flora or Tilia Rose being very clingy. The situation flied over Malvadust’s head and he made some calming tea for the imperial to let her rest a bit more. After she fell asleep Malvadust turned to Noonan asking her to get Ayla there. The bogsneak was not a healer but she knew enough to help Malvadust when needed but even she was confused by Tilia’s situation.

Noonan and Ayla were talking over potential reasons for weird personality switching while Malvadust went to check Tilia. It was about time for her to wake up and Malvadust felt relieved when she was greeted by Tilia herself. She had hard time speaking, for some reason, but Malvadust was able to hear her devastation when he told that Merisara had died the two being sisters. The two talked for some time Tilia having no idea who her other personalities were yet she remembered the conversations she had with Malvadust when she had been either Flora or Rose. After chatting for some time Malvadust went to report to the two younger ladies and after they came back Tilia had once again changed personality.

Tilia’s situation was beyond Malvadust’s expertise and Ayla promised to try figure out something. Malvadust and Noonan made sure to make all of Tilia’s personalities aware of each other before letting her leave the offices. He needed once again fill his herb storage, even though he was sure he had not used some of the missing herbs. He asked if Fen knew anything about his missing plants, maybe there was a wild animal that ate them but the fae did not find signs of that. He though said it all felt familiar Malvadust agreeing. After Fauna, Merisara’s daughter, decided to make their dream true and started to maintain a garden growing herbs and other useful plants, Malvadust noticed that some of his rarer herbs started to run low for no reason and he had strong feeling of who was behind that.

Kanerva had stolen Malvadust’s herbs back in the day and the tundra was sure Noonan was doing that too. He could not prove that which annoyed him greatly and Noonan’s attitude towards him or his methods didn’t make their relationship any better. Actually, Malvadust started to get really sick of the wildclaw. Malvadust had once again been collecting some herbs with Fen they being again running low. As he returned to the offices he saw Noonan treating Soili’s melted face. The wildclaw said it was from acid she had gotten to her face but Soili said Noonan’s medicine had melted it. She had only had minor rash before Noonan had screwed up. Malvadust would have known how to heal minor acid rash, there was a known treatment, and he was angry that Noonan had decided to try her untested “experiments” which had made things worse. She didn’t see the situation as bad and starting to get sick of the wildclaw he swore he would kick her out of the clan if she made even one more “mistake”.

Some time after that the summoners, the two who had killed Kanerva and many others, returned the clan driving them away immediately. The clan was expecting them to cause some troubles and soon enough Kyogre, clan’s meteorologist, went missing. Noonan was sure the summoners were behind that Malvadust thinking that made sense. However, Karmiini warned the clan to not blame the summoners without proof. Leading to the summoning incident the clan had blamed either Nemo or portal familiars for hostile familiars when it had all been summoners’ doing. Malvadust did not want to make same mistake than over a year ago and waited till Puolanka investigating the situation was able to gather some proof. To Malvadust it felt very similar to Idaea case from early spring.

Puolanka’s research lead to the healing offices he having heard Kyogre had felt sick before vanishing. Malvadust had once again been refilling his herb storage around the time the meteorologist had vanished, Fen was able to prove his alibi. Noonan though had been in the healing offices with only her familiars, and Kyogre, and it would not have been first time she had hidden her mistakes. Malvadust also brought up how he assumed Noonan had been stealing his herbs to Puolanka when he came to interrogate. Eventually, Noonan’s familiar told what had happened. She had accidentally killed Kyogre and the clan arrested her for that, or hiding it like a criminal. The clan did not take lightly Noonan hiding that she had killed someone and she was brought to court Malvadust seeing his chance at getting rid of Noonan. He brought up all the dozens of warnings Noonan had from causing harm with her “experiments” and as she did not show signs, or will, to improve, and that she had sabotaged her coworker, Karmiini decided Noonan should leave the clan. Malvadust was happy about the decision and kept an eye on the wildclaw as she took her stuff and left the clan Malvadust being once again clan’s only healer.

Work as clan’s only healer was peaceful job, most of the time, but it was also lonely one. Most other medical workers had company, if not a coworker then someone else who lived near. Meanwhile, the part in which Malvadust lived was devoid of other dragons unless someone was sick and the tundra started to wish for a coworker.

Nearing the Night of the Nocturne a young obelisk Lokakuu came to meet Malvadust. He wasn’t sick but was instead looking for his place in the clan and he had decided to try healing. Malvadust took the young one in and was able to see his potential right away. Unlike Noonan Lokakuu was curious, listened what Malvadust said and seemed motivated to help others instead of using them as some kind of test subjects. The clan did not have many patients as of late, actually not since Noonan left, excluding the two usual ones. Malvadust took that as opportunity to teach the young obelisk about herbs and little bit of magic as well while they waited real healing exercise.

Soon after the Night of the Nocturne ended Lokakuu’s younger brother Lenny got hurt while tailing a peacock talonok the same night as his older brother Dio died mysteriously. The two brothers didn’t have similar wounds, one had normal bite and claw marks while the other was burned, and Malvadust didn’t believe the incidents were related though them happening so close to each other made him a bit nervous.

Malvadust used Lenny to test what Lokakuu had learned in such a short amount of time and he seemed promising. The two treated the wildclaw’s wounds and he seemed to be getting better until the wounds started to act weirdly. Malvadust wasn’t sure what had caused that but he guessed something in the wood might had infected them. They were in arcane land and meteors brought alien stuff all the time. Malvadust talked with Fen about what he thought about the situation and he suggested some plants he had found ages ago. Problem was that they lived deep in the wood in the “danger zone”. Lokakuu was there listening and he offered to go find the plants they needed. Malvadust trusted he would find what they needed and let him go.

Malvadust looked after Lenny while he waited the young obelisk to return. He eventually did, but not in the way Malvadust had hoped. Lokakuu had gone with his sister Zera, wise decision in Malvadust’s book. The rangers brought her to Malvadust missing her tail, having had her eyes clawed and kind of burnt by the extract the two had been looking for, Lokakuu was brought in lifeless. Malvadust turned his shocked eyes to Tahna waiting him to explain what had happened the wildclaw telling they had encountered Akakabuto, a dangerous, corrupt gaoler. The rangers left Zera for Malvadust to take care off and went to check if the gaoler posed threat for the rest of the clan. Malvadust got to work sad of having lost such a promising young dragon so soon.

The obelisks had managed to find and secure the needed herbs, mostly, and Malvadust was able to use them to heal both Lenny and Zera. After the two were strong enough to leave Malvadust went to see Fen telling how he almost felt being cursed to be alone. Fen was sure it was just bad luck and told Malvadust to not take the losses personally. It was hard to see two coworkers die and one be too selfish to be considered one but the fae was sure Malvadust would eventually get a coworker who was nice to work with and would stay alive. Malvadust hoped the small dragon would be right. The two took a relaxing bath in the spa after which Malvadust returned to his office to be ready for the next incident.

Things remained peaceful in the clan for months which made Malvadust a little nervous. Long peacuful perdiods usually led to something bad and Malvadust wasn't sure if he could handle it when it eventually came. One night a dragon arrived to the healing offices. He was a young nocturne who said he had hatched in the clan some time ago having been a female pearlcatcher back then. The dragon, Lifeblood, told he had survived a near fatal encounter in the wood saying that was thanks to Ealga. He said feeling the guardian had let him live so he could help others survive and he had returned to the clan in order to become its healer. After hearing the story Malvadust could not turn the young dragon away no matter what and took him as his apprentice. He hoped the miracle wasn't a sign of something absolutely terrible coming in the future.

Traits

Malvadust is an arcane tundra with pale speckled fur and dark pink mane, tail tuft and striped wings. His fur is covered by pale rocks that grow and crumble all the time making his fur to be very sandy. Because of his gembond his fur is very flat all around and he is often described to look like mix between a wildclaw and a pearlcatcher with a tundra body. Because of his flat fur his big horns and paws look even bigger than they actually are. Meanwhile his cheek fur and tail tuft are really small looking. He has common pink eyes.

Malvadust isn’t the most eye catching dragon in the lair. He is already very dull colored and his clothes don’t try to change that. To protect his fur from possible medicine stains he has covered his body, legs, neck, wings and tail with generic pale healer’s clothes and finished the look with fitting hat they often being a bit dusty due to his gembond. He still sees himself as herbalist student and carries a notebook in where he writes his studies down. He also often carries herbs with him they most commonly hanging from his wings.

Malvadust is liked for his clean and gentle voice. He has very formal way of speaking but it is easy to understand. Though a medical expert he rarely uses jargon but instead sticks with the more widely used terms. He has heavy German accent.

Malvadust is curious and experimental dragon. His interest towards herbs started from his curiosity to see what different plants did and his job started as an opportunity to try those out. He doesn’t mind getting his claws dirty be it whatever and he can stay calm even when smelling blood or septic flesh. He, however, does like to be able to help and when he is not able to do that or can’t do enough he is fast to wonder if he is actually suited to work as healer or should he be just a scholar. Though Malvadust already knows almost all herbs there are his curiosity hasn’t died out and he still enjoys making hypothesis about undiscovered or rare plants and mix herb potions.

Malvadust is gentle, understanding and helpful dragon who does not shun social situation. In fact, he likes to spend his time near other dragons even when he is going to study and it isn’t unheard of him to join foraging groups when possible. He was well known by his clan mates because of his personality and effective herb treatments and rarely needed to be alone even when he wanted. Though his clan mates sometimes could have been less attention asking Malvadust never felt too annoyed to help them. He was happy to help and as long as he didn’t do more than needed he had time for himself too. He is only known to get mad when someone is putting someone’s life at risk and is otherwise very calm dragon.

Malvadust isn’t a familiar dragon but he has a pet deepmine aardvark which he calls Aad. He rarely interacts with it and actually sees it almost as rarely. It lives near Malvadust’s herb storage and keeps insects in check. As long as it keeps doing that Malvadust doesn’t see point in wondering where it is and what it is up to. Aad in turn is somewhat similar not caring about its master as long he keeps his herb storage filled. Aad can't talk and is rather simple creature overall. Malvadust has much more close relationship with Fen's Neva who he likes to groom to relieve his stress.

Though an arcane dragon Malvadust can barely use magic having always cared more about practical and theoretical information. However, what he lacks in magical abilities he makes up with his knowledge of herbs. Having studied them for a very long time he has managed to fully memorize most of the herb names, their looks, scents and usages and even mixes. He is still a tundra and new plants may cause him some problems but once he has it memorized it stays in his mind. He also has very good smell like most tundras.
