Biography

When Fen hatched the hatchery was full of dragons but Fen didn’t really care about playing with his coevals. Instead he bombed the hatchling-sitter Kaamos with question about the birds and plants and insects around them. The tundra didn’t know much and Fen was a bit disappointed when he instead of answering him taught them to read. That though was very short-lived phase and Fen was very happy about his teachings after he happened to gaze his coeval Kanerva’s book about herbs. It answered some of his questions and Fen was excited to read more books once he got out of the nesting place.

That didn’t take long and Fen got his hands to a book that described some of the more common animals in the Starwood Strand which was one of the very few books the clan had. It was very simple book but Fen enjoyed reading it until he had to participate in mandatory gathering and was made to make his way to wind domain with few others. Fen was very excited to see new environments and all the weird creatures there were and after the visit he asked to join as many gathering groups he could.

The clan gathered all across the Sornieth and by travelling with gatherers Fen was able to see many different environments with their unique animals and plants. He really wanted to know what they were, how they behaved and how they affected each others and so he started to carry a notebook to where he wrote notes he made in there. He kept it in his little bag where he also kept his specimens and bandages as he was often too excited to care about safety.

When not participating gatherings Fen spent his time reading his notes and studying his specimens trying to satisfy his curiosity. He compared the information he got from books to his own experience and started to understand how the world worked. He knew from where the group should be looking when they wanted to have something great to take to the clan and usually gave hints to his clan mates while he himself was trying to find something rarer or totally new. Though he still got very excited when he found something like that, and his clan mates had to make sure he didn’t hurt himself or at least made it safely back to the lair, he started to turn from a bit of a nuisance to a wanted dragon to any gathering trip.

Though Fen had a nice mainly plants collection he barely spent time with it but instead he spent his time somewhere else collecting more plants to maybe study later. One night when he returned to his nest with his new plants, and few bugs, he found a dragon studying his older specimens. Young tundra Malvadust explained how he was studying medical effects of plants and knowing how Fen had collected some of medical plants he had sneaked to his collection to study them. Fen was happy to hear about the functions he had not thought about and allowed the young dragon to use his plants for his own studies and also shared some of his information, mainly where they grew, if the tundra wanted to look for them himself.

Fen continued his studies and started to pay attention to how animals used plants with hypothesized medical effects if they even used them. If he managed to find a plant he had never seen before he came to ask Malvadust if his medical books had any information about it while Malvadust updated Fen as his own studies proceed. The two became close friends and time to time joined forces to look for plants together. Those however became very rare after Malvadust became clan’s healer and had to stay in the clan to take care of his clan mates. Fen continued joining gathering groups and met Malvadust every now and then when he got too close to an aggressive animal.

Fen continued studying environments and got a bit boost for his studies after he realized how to study other than plants more easily. Clan’s familiar keeper Pinkapi had gathered a lot of animal friends and knew a lot about how they behaved and Fen often came to talk with the forgetful tundra because of that. She told how they behaved in the wild, what they ate, how and where they lived and how they interacted with others. She was even kind enough to give him his own familiar, a female kelpie Neva, who became his partner during his trips making travelling a bit easier in certain places and to keep him safe.

Nearing the end of the year the clan received an order from the Observatory in which they were asked to move to the Focal Point. Fen was very excited to move to a new environment and became even more excited after he started to see dreams about a wood in there about which he had never heard about. Fen was very happy when he heard his clan mates had had similar dreams and also wanted to move there. Though Fen usually avoided clan chores other than gatherings he was more than happy to help his clan to pack their property to get to their new home fast. Fen worked with clan’s food storage and once that was fully moved after four nights he was able to move to the new lair himself.

In the new lair Fen immediately started studying local flora. Fen was very curious about how it was different to Starwood flora and planted few of the exotic plants to a gorge that had been formed between rising steps and made his nest to a place from where he could observe them easily. After having made himself familiar with local flora and having studied them a little bit with Malvadust Fen started to get more familiar with local fauna and ecosystem as a whole. The area had clearly been long forgotten to the point no information about it was available which made Fen very excited. He was able to study something totally new though some in the clan gave Fen a lot of pressure in trying to figure out how the local fauna behaved before someone would get hurt by them. Fen though didn’t mind the challenge and teamed up with Neva and Pinkapi to learn to know their new home.

The place where Fen had planted some plants turned into a lush garden. If he was not in the wood he was in there observing local bugs and other animals that didn’t mind dragons. In there he met with a young fae called Tropi who liked having fun among the flowers. Fen and Tropi didn’t interact much and Fen didn’t mind her playing in there though he had asked her and her friends to avoid hurting the plants and tell him if there was anything slightly weird which she promised to do.

Later after Night of the Nocturne was over Fen dared again step into the wood and spent a lot of time in there and some times decided to stay there to observe day activities of area's flora and fauna. After a such day Fen returned to the lair and was immediately asked what he knew about Tropi. Fen was confused till someone explained that someone attacked Tropi and turned her into a nocturne. Fen didn’t know anything about that but he was curious if the breed change was doing of an undiscovered creature and started studying the garden to find any hints about that.

Fen was a bit disappointed when Tropi told that the one who did that to her was a dragon and someone she knew but couldn’t remember exactly who that was. Fen was happy he was not a mage or he could have been the principal suspect after that information. After Tropi was healed from her mental trauma she remained as nocturne and the event was forgotten fast without resolution. She decided to build her new nest on the garden and after seeing how well camouflaged it was Fen asked her to build him a hide he could use to observe fauna better and after that was done life carried on normal for both.

Later that year Fen finished his basic studies about the Dream Wood and was able to give his report to clan’s landscape architect Pernis to work with. After that he moved to make similar reports for other areas across the continent or just tried to find something new to study.

It was late summer when Fen met with Malvadust after a long time and was very willing to hear if he had anything interesting to share for him. He though was not able to ask about them before the tundra asked if he had borrowed his herbs which he had not. Malvadust explained how there were a lot of plants missing from his storage and some of them were so rare that finding them was more of matter of luck than knowledge. He had hoped that Fen had taken them but that wasn’t the case and the tundra started to get worried if someone had stolen them either as a prank or to sabotage their clan. Fen hoped that wasn’t the case and promised to bring him new plants as he had again started to travel with gatherers.

The following month one of clan’s messengers Storm was severely hurt in a storm and was being taken care of by Malvadust. One night extremely tired Malvadust came to visit Fen and explained how things did not look good. He had found out that the one stealing his plant was Kanerva, who had become a healer after leaving the hatchery with Fen, who had burnt them in her jealousy and now they needed aether cherries to heal Storm but they had been burnt. He asked if Fen could find them some as Storm’s life was at risk without them and Fen promised to do his best.

Aether cherries were extremely rare and Fen had never been able to find a single one before so finding one before time ran out made him very nervous. He tried to figure out what would be the best place to find them in Starfall Isles as their whole description screamed arcane. He combed places with high amounts of arcane energies hoping to find them there but with no success. He visited them every night and day and even tried new places but had no luck until few nights after few mages in the clan had a not-so-successful magical experiment. It caused a magical explosion which Fen thought to be reason when he found some aether cherries near the clan few nights later. He brought them to Malvadust and let the healer do the rest while he returned to study the phenomenon a bit more.

Trying to figure out how all the mysterious cherries behaved within the world and how other creatures reacted to them turned out to be a a bit tricky. The clan had barely any dragons who studied or knew about plants, and were nice to talk to, until a young nature bogsneak Vatta moved to the clan. Fen was exited when he explained having come to study the old wood the clan lived in and he came to talk with him as soon as he got a chance. After that Fen taught Vatta what he had learned about the wood who in turn taught Fen more about plants and animals using his nature skills whenever he had time. With Vatta’s and Malvadust’s information as well as with his own notes Fen continued studying the world trying to learn even more how everything worked together.

Malvadust's life had gotten a bit easier after he started to work with Kanerva and having more free time he and Fen often went to look for plants together. Vatta's nature senses had told him that there were rare plants preparing to sprout higher on the Isle and Fen went to tell about that to Malvadust. The tundra told being free during the sprouting and they started to plan their trip. Vatta couldn't come as he was doing border control.

Fen was making his way towards his nest riding his motherly familiar Neva when he half accidentally heard Stratospher asking his brother Trooper to come with him to see a light show where Fen and Malvadust were going. As they were going to go to the same place Fen decided to invite the fae brothers with them knowing Malvadust could easily carry them. They accepted the invite and Fen went to inform Malvadust about that.

They left at the sunset Malvadust having nothing against carrying two small dragons. Fen led the way with Neva and glided off her as soon as they reached the place being mesmerized by the sprouting plants. Malvadust soon joined him while Neva kept her eyes on surroundings and the fae brothers named stars waiting the light show to begin. Fen collected as many as he could move and packed them in Neva's bags as the sky alight with pink glow.

Fen had never seen pink lightning clouds and watched them mesmerized but at the same worried about the fear his kelpie emitted. A wyvern-like creature appeared within the clouds and wanting to hear Malvadust's opinion about things going on he tried to approach him when the wyvern screamed making the air split lightning hitting ground very near them causing Neva to gallop away in panic. Malvadust having barely avoided the lighting ran to pick Fen and the faes Fen helping them to get to his back as the tundra started running the wyvern's claws hitting the ground.

The wyvern started chasing them and Fen informed about its movements to Malvadust holding tightly to his fur. They were relatively close to the wood when Stratospher fell off Trooper jumping to help him. Fen informed about that to Malvadust and the tundra turned just in time to see Trooper getting hit by the wyvern. Stratospher started to fly towards them as Trooper bought him some time Fen urging him to hurry. Stratospher reached them in time when Trooper was shot down from sky.

Fen took a hold of Stratospher as his powers seemed to vanish watching as another fae rushed to save Trooper driving the wyvern away in progress. She started flying towards them demanding them to run and Malvadust didn't need to be asked twice. Fen noticed Stratospher was in shock and tried to talk to him as they rushed through the wood taking a look at the fourth fae as she got closer with Trooper but he could not tell who she was.

Malvadust's legs gave up as soon as they reached the lair and Fen fell with that. He crawled to Stratospher as Malvadust was ordered to take Trooper to his office Fen staying trying to calm down the scared dragon. As he held the shaking dragon Fen took a better look at their savior and recognized Nemo, an elderly dragon that had been exiled months ago. The clan was not very happy to have her back even after Fen told that she had saved them as he was sure they could not have outrun lightning from the wyvern after it had struck Trooper down.

The situation was getting tense and wanting to stay out of politics Fen remained quiet talking to Stratospher. Neva galloped to him from Pinkapi and being happy to see her alright he asked her to take them to the healing offices. She didn't need to be asked twice and they soon left the arguing crowd behind and arrived to the temple. In there Kanerva was taking care of Trooper while Malvadust having his breath steady prepared to join. Fen asked him to help with Stratospher's shock but fearing he still smelled like the situation he asked Kanerva to take care of her brother.

Kanerva gave Stratospher something calming and after he fell asleep she asked if Fen or Neva were alright. Both of them were unharmed and after being updated about Trooper's situation they left deciding to visit Itameri Fen having heard him been the one to tell Stratospher about the light show. The prophet was rather timid and was clearly bothered when Fen told what had happened. He explained having seen confusing and scary visions lately and Fen couldn't get the answer to his question about if he had known this would happen or if he told about it to Stratospher but he didn't seem like having wanted to have this happen. Fen left with Neva and after having organized the plants he had collected they both took a rest feeling very tired after the incident.

Small pile of pink petals.

After the incident Fen continued his work going deeper into the old wood to see if there was something totally undiscovered hiding. Trooper had survived the attack and had turned himself into a guardian after Stratospher had become a skydancer and Nemo had taken job as border guard. Not all in the lair though liked that and there were a lot of rumors about she doing what she had done before like having turned Tropi to nocturne and led the clan to the wood long ago.

When studying the more lush parts of the wood not long after Nova had discovered a new constellation Fen and Vatta happened to find some ruins that didn't look that old compared to better known ones. Despite that they interested the clan greatly the explorers finding pictures about Nova's constellation in there and rumors started to claim that they were Nemo's original home. Fen didn't care to speculate and scouted the ruins in hope of finding some rare plants or creatures.

Due to Nova's found the clan decided to change its name and almost the moment it was made official the news about an old portal being opened reached the clan. The portal led some truly weird looking creatures into the dragon world and Fen was pressured by the clan to figure out if the new creatures were dangerous. At first Fen was excited to study the new creatures but few nights later something went into clan's familiars they starting to act hostile those including Neva and Fen's research subjects.

Fen and Pinkapi neither had any idea what had caused the sudden change but they worked hard to solve the case. Hostile familiars made the entire lair nervous and the new creatures did not help with that many blaming them. However what Fen was able to gather the new creatures didn't seem to be behind the behavior that only happening in their clan and nowhere else. He wondered if the ruins had had something vicious hidden that was behind all the strange things and tried to make his way there but he was unable to due to gaoler spirits in the wood preventing him.

Fen spent so much time trying to figure out what had gone to the familiars that he before long started to unintentionally nap randomly. Some in the clan suggested he should rest while others were mad that he slept before the situation was solved and Fen was starting to feel very drained. Malvadust noticed that and he gave Fen some herbs and told him to eat them in his nest to rest peacefully. Fen made his way to his second, well camouflaged nest, ate the herbs and let the sleep take over.

Fen was not sure how long he had slept but when he woke up by somehow falling from his nest like being dropped he saw the clan in total chaos. The lair was walled and there were about three or four places with ferocious fighting going on. He saw Pinkapi ordering familiars to attack Glade all of them looking beyond angry and among them Fen saw Neva. They looked like being in their senses again and Fen came closer calling his kelpie who somehow heard him over all the noise in the lair. She was happy to see Fen and he got to her back to not get crushed.

Pinkapi updated Fen about what was going on the best she could she clearly being three fourths asleep. Glade had done something to familiars to make them hostile as part of plan to summon the Shade and the clan was now trying to make sure they could not do that. The eclipse Fen had just missed was over and being sure that the opportunity to summon the entity was over he decided to see how the rest of the clan was doing.

Fen found Malvadust in the chaos next to a pile of rocks looking shocked. Once Fen came closer he started to notice the rocks having dragon traits and eventually realized that they were Kanerva's remains. She had turned herself into a guardian after the incident with the wyvern and Malvadust had always been worried where that would lead. Fen tried to comfort his friend but Malvadust told he wanted to be alone for some time and Fen left.

The battles were eventually won and Malvadust was asked to take care of the wounded he being now the clan's only healer. Fen offered to help him sensing how broken he felt but the tundra asked him to go help with looking for the missing ones saying he was good with finding. Fen was not willing to leave his friend but he could not do much for him and joined the search groups.

Quite a few residents were turned into animals while Fen had been asleep, and during the battle, and Fen worked to find them with reinforcements from all across the wood. While in the wood Fen took the opportunity to collect herbs for Malvadust he being pretty much the only one in the clan to know them. Vatta had had his magic drained and was now in the nature domain to get it back. Malvadust worked hard and eventually found himself in bed due to exhaustion Neva taking the job to keep him there while Fen worked in his stead. The clan eventually started to recover from the incidents and Fen made sure Malvadust recovered too before continuing his studies about the new creatures.

Small pile of pink petals.

Fen studied the new creatures and even visited their original home. He though didn’t dare to go too far because of how nervous the place made Neva and mostly had to speculate how the creatures had adapted to their natural environment. Later he was able to learn a lot more about the other world thanks to Walter who started to study the world and its creatures and actually travelled far into the world of the odd creatures. Between his studies Fen kept in contact with Malvadust who first had a very irresponsible apprentice followed by promising apprentice who sadly died way too young by being attacked by a corrupt monster.

Later Fen got his own apprentice, a young pearlcatcher called Lemmikki. She was a curious case in Fen’s opinion. Her egg had accidentally come to be when her mother Hattara had gotten scared by a rat-dragon hybrid and though Fen had tried, he had not found the thing in question. The parent being part animal though did explain why Lemmikki seemed to get along with animals very well, and maybe also why she was so interested about zoology. Fen was happy to teach the younger dragon who shared his interest and the two spent a lot of time observing the nature near the lair. They didn’t dare to go too deep since two of the summoners had come back and now resided in the ruins.

Later clan’s rangers Julius and Tahna invited Fen and Lemmikki to come explore an overgrown part of the wood Pascal had discovered and the two scholars didn’t need to be asked twice. They arrived to the part of the wood Fen being sure the very overgrown and ancient part could house some new, or rather old, creatures he had not seen before. He flew in to check how it looked like Neva not liking that. The wood looked more like a cave than a wood with how thick the vegetation was and how the steps and island had formed in there. He flew back to the group and after he gave a summary of what was ahead Vatta, who they had also taken with them, asked the trees to make way for them and the group stepped in.

Fen started by riding on Vatta who led the queue but something constantly caught his attention and he flied to check what that was Lemmikki often joining him. They found some never before seen plants and bugs and took some specimen with them as they walked through the wood. Suddenly Vatta asked the queue to stop and after everyone was totally still for a moment he asked trees in front of him move. Fen flew on the bogsneak to see what was ahead and saw an old and broken structure being guarded by the trees. Tahna was the one who went to check it and after he deemed the place safe everyone else followed.

Fen was not that interested about the structure and let others examine it while he studied the plants in the more open area of the wood. The plants didn’t stand out from what he had already seen but he ended up finding some rather fresh footprints while others agreed the structure was some kind of broken seal. Something had escaped from its prison, and not that long ago. Lemmikki asked if the escaped thing could have been the wyvern that was sealed in the lair but the trail Fen had found and the timeline didn’t match with that theory. The group decided to track down the escaped thing to make sure it was not a threat Fen taking the lead while Neva walked right behind him.

The trail led outside of the dense vegetation Fen hearing Pascal say they were on the other side of the dense wood. Rangers didn’t like how the thing seemingly wandered in the more open wood and the group continued tracking it down. Suddenly, the footprints ended and the group stopped to figure out where the thing had gone. Fen kept going to where the trail had been leading to while Lemmikki checked if it had jumped to side. The situation was very tense and Neva pretty much stood over Fen as he tried to find the trail again.

That was when Lemmikki screamed and as everyone turned to see what happened they saw a five-headed aberration looking dragon attacking the pearlcatcher. One of its heads was biting Lemmikki’s neck while another was holding her arm, the remaining three looked at the group ready to fight Neva being ready to defend Fen. Pascal rushed to help Lemmikki and after he managed to free the pearlcatcher the others rushed to battle the five-headed thing while Fen rushed to see if Lemmikki was alright. She was not. The bite had done a lot damage and it was clear Lemmikki would not survive. Still, Fen tried to come up with something to stop the bleeding. He was unable to do anything and soon enough life faded from Lemmikki’s eyes.

The five-headed thing flew away when Monsoon showed up Fen hiding under Lemmikki’s wing while Neva hid in a bush. After the spirit went away Tahna asked if everyone was alright Fen screaming no in almost panicking state. Neva was first to come comfort him the others too telling Fen to not blame himself. Fen knew it was not his fault but part of him believed Lemmikki was dead because she had not learned to be careful. Being reckless was one of Fen’s most notable traits.

The group made their way back to the lair in where they split up. Pascal carried Lemmikki’s body to the sanctuary while Neva took Fen to Malvadust. Fen had been mentally absent through the whole journey back and the tundra was fast to notice something was not right. He came to ask what happened he noticing the blood on Fen’s scarf fast. Fen was able to tell Lemmikki was dead before coiling up and covering his face with his hat. After some time he felt Neva pocking him with her muzzle and he smelled Malvadust’s tea. He told it would calm him down and after Fen took the cup the tundra sat next to him in total silence. He was with Fen during Lemmikki’s funeral and stayed with him as he processed the happened event. The healer had experience with the loss, he knew how to help Fen back on his feet.

Small pile of pink petals.

Fen spent some time grieving losing his student but eventually he returned to his work. Lemmikki had been sent to the afterlife and sobbing in one’s nest was not bringing her back, if anything Fen feared it might bring her to haunt him or the lair. He picked up his studies and went to meet Vatta to see if he had learned anything while he had taken a break. When the old trees around Demoni’s seal had been planted didn’t really interest him, the trees were still the same as majority of wood’s trees. However, the runeflowers did interest him very much.

The ones resembling arcane rune were rather usual sight in the lair and the entire wood, and the ones looking like water rune were also easy to find if one knew where to look, but the rest were so rare that Fen had not been sure they even existed. He had managed to find few while gathering in outside regions but few were still missing, or had been as Vatta had managed to find the missing ones. Fen was excited and the two studied the odd plants and compared them to each other. That took a good while but eventually they managed to prove the eleven flowers were in fact related species despite of their very different aspects. The biggest proof for that was that they all seemed to be unnatural, possibly dragonmade as they all matched the runes of the flights, and that interested both Fen and Vatta.

Vatta remembered the book that had inspired him to come search for the Dream Wood and he wondered if the author of that book was the dragon who had created the flowers. It was also possible that the creator was someone else, maybe a friend of the author or someone unrelated who had owned the book before Vatta found it, as the book had been mainly about the way more famous Starwood Strand. Vatta decided to travel to his hatching clan to see if he could find the book again and maybe learn more about the author and the one who had put a note in the book. If he was lucky the two were the same and if not he might have a long trip ahead of him. Fen wished him luck and tried to do his own research while the druid was away.

Vatta had been away for few weeks when something exciting happened at the Starfall Isles; a massive meteorite hit the sea west from the Dream Wood. Fen had been taking care of Neva when that had happened and he, along with the rest of the lair, had been confused and curious, especially when it looked like a piece had hit the Dream Wood itself. He followed how the clan would react expecting to be asked to be part of the scouting group if one was organized. Nova went to the Observatory as soon as possible, possibly to hear what they knew up there, while Astral went to her observatory and opened the roof to monitor the space. Eventually Tahna approached Fen and told they were going to go check what had fallen down. The ranger didn’t even ask if Fen wanted to come with them, that was given.

The group walked in awkward silence as they made their way towards the crash site. The reason for that was their young navigator Gini who was non-verbal and used either morse code or sign language to communicate. Thing was, no one else in the group used those languages and the silence felt like an attempt to avoid misunderstandings. The young nocturne apparently had a habit of acting out if she was not understood correctly. Gini was very young dragon; she had just recently reached maturity. The reason why she was taken with the group despite of her lack of experience was that she was the only space expert available, Nova had gotten to the Observatory and Astral wanted to stay in clan’s observatory to monitor the situation. She was also very good with math and she had calculated where the object had landed that making her important for finding the fallen object.

The group eventually found the crash site so far to the west that they could hear the sea. Fen and Gini flew to study the crater the object had left. There was some rubble in there and near the center there seemed to be footprints, if Fen had to compare them to something he would have said they were from dragon’s feet. Them being dragon footprints also explained why they didn’t go further than the center; the dragon flew away. Despite of that Fen and Gini were able to guess where the dragon had gone and started to follow the trail. Gini went in first while Fen followed after hopping on Neva’s back. The rangers with them, Tahna and Julius, followed as fast as they could.

Gini eventually stopped once she spotted the space dragon which looked a bit like a mix between a gaoler and a veilspun. The dragon turned to face the explorers and they asked what the young ones were. Julius was fast to answer and he told they were from the clan east from there before asking who the space dragon was. They told they were Renigra before asking what the “foreign species” did within arcane domain. That seemed to confuse the mirror who was very much an arcane dragon, maybe not the most magical but his parents were both from arcane like he himself, and his pink eye were easily seen against his pale-yellow face. Renigra though pointed out that he had plague written all over him while Tahna was clearly child of nature. Fen could only guess how the plague ambassador felt about that claim. Gini tried to ask something by tapping her comet but Renigra refused to answer as she was of shadow breed. Like Julius her pink eyes should also be easily seen, the cover that usually hid her eyes had been lifted up so she could see anything.

Fen decided to ask what Renigra exactly had against them and they explained that they had nothing against him. He, an arcane fae, was where he belonged, he was made to live within arcane domain like they but the others were created by other deities to live within their domain. They should have stayed there. That sounded very contradictory as Renigra had large white eyes meaning they were an ice dragon, which in turn meant they themselves had hatched somewhere else than in arcane domain. Renigra then proceeded to turn their attention to Neva and they told she should not be in there either. The water horse belonged to a swamp and arcane domain was not a swampy region. Neva was clearly offended by that and Fen told her to not take Renigra’s words personally.

Gini tried to ask some question by tapping morse code against her comet and Renigra seemed to understand that. They though didn’t sound like wanting to answer to a “shadow” dragon and they seemed to get offended when the young cosmologist told she was interested about space, as far as Fen managed to guess. The space dragon lunged ahead and bit the younger dragon to her left arm. After Julius fired a warning shot with his bow, they turned their attention to the rangers and Fen flied to check if Gini was alright. The cover had fallen over the eyes while Gini had tried to free herself and Fen lifted it up to see her eyes. She seemed dazed and Fen had seen enough poisoning incidents, or more closely experienced, to realize the bite had been poisonous. He tried to keep the young dragon present but eventually she fell over and stopped moving.

Fen felt scared as he tried to get the young dragon wake up. Neva arrived to calm him down and that almost did the opposite as she was wounded by Renigra’s claws. Unlike Gini she though stayed conscious and Fen turned his attention back to the nocturne. He was relieved to see she was still breathing. She was breathing heavily but that was better than not breathing at all. Fen took a closer look at the young nocturne and it looked like she was merely passed out due to neurotoxin. He had no antidote and all he could do realistically was to tie the wound with his scarf and monitor the situation, and pray. He did not want to have another young and promising researcher die on his watch.

The battle against Renigra ended and the rangers came to check Gini with a spirit who had apparently come to help the living dragons. The spirit told they were Weirdsa and after Tahna lifted Gini onto his back he started to escort the living dragons towards the lair. The spirit was looking for a dragon with an unusual sword and both rangers told they didn’t know where such a dragon was. Fen had heard of that kind of dragon but at the moment he did not remember when or where. After that the spirit left and the living dragons walked slowly back home. Fen was the only one without any injuries, Julius and Neva both had cuts while Tahna seemed to have a frostbite. Fen was riding on Neva like usual but since she was limping he offered to fly. The kelpie though insisted she could carry her dragon companion and Fen stayed where he was.

The group had yet to reach the halfway point when Julius stopped and Fen was easily able to tell he had also come in contact with Renigra’s poison. He noticed that himself too and while he called his centaur friends for help Fen checked Neva’s cuts in case she had come in contact with poison too. Fast scan didn’t reveal anything and logically if she had come in contact with poison, she would have passed out already as she was smaller than Julius. The mirror had stopped responding once the centaurs arrived and Tahna did his best to explain what had happened. Few of the herd tied the passed-out dragons to their stretcher while one of them offered to carry Neva and Fen. Neva insisted she could walk but Fen disagreed strongly and he allowed them to be carried. Neva seemed annoyed by that but she did not fight back, she was tired due to her injured leg.

Out to the dragons, and creatures, who had encountered Renigra Tahna and his skeleton bird were only ones walking by themselves, though the bird was riding on its owner. By the time they reached the lair Tahna had really started to struggle with staying up and Fen wondered if he should order the ambassador to accept the help. Theoretically Fen had no right to order the plague ambassador but he was the only one uninjured and being still healthy gave him upper hand. The plague dragon though had his elemental pride, though he was normally very chill, and he could find it offensive if it was hinted he could not make it home, and being injured and tired usually made everyone more likely to lash out. Fen decided to keep his mouth shut, the centaurs as stronger creatures had better chances at convincing the wildclaw to accept help and if they couldn’t do that then he couldn’t either.

Once at the healing offices Tahna explained what had happened to the healers and Alfa while he rested. Fen knew he would not accept treatment and would sooner or later make his way to his office where he treated himself. Fen and Neva were left to the healing offices with the two unconscious dragons and since they kept the two healers busy Fen decided to treat Neva himself. While there he explained what had happened with Renigra in more detail to Malvadust as he was in the same room as he, Lifeblood treated Gini in the room next door. While they talked Malvadust told that Nova had returned from the Observatory and brought news that the thing that had fallen was not a meteorite but one of arcane’s floating islands and it had housed fae’s forgotten sibling species, the aether. Fen was slightly sad that they had not gotten some foreign lifeforms but he was also happy to have his species cousins back on Sornieth.

Neva, and the two dragons, were able to leave the healing offices within a week and Fen spent his nights following that either doing experiments with the runeflowers or waiting Vatta to return. The druid took his time to come back and that was because finding information ended up being quite challenging. He though had found something, in Behemoth’s library. The dragon who had written the book about Starwood was most likely not the dragon who had created the runeflowers, that was someone else. It had remained unclear who that mystery dragon had been but Vatta had found some mentions about Dream Wood and dragonmade flowers in few autobiographies and other biographies and from there he had managed to figure out when the mystery individual had lived; before most modern breeds.

Fen found that fascinating as the flower creator might have been of an ancient breed, maybe a nature ancient, and them visiting the Dream Wood could have been among the first peaceful interactions between flights. Maybe the flowers were a symbol of unity or something. After the encounter with Renigra Fen had visited them again, because he both knew how to deal with the wildlife and he was tolerated by the aether. During the kind of awkward meeting the old dragon had told that they had lived in the Dream Wood before Focal Point’s magic had started to affect it and they had told how the lifeforms had changed since their times. That was all very interesting and it also gave Fen an interesting question to think; if Renigra was still alive, could the creator of the flowers be too and if not, could they come back as a spirit somewhere in the future. The clan was usually nervous when new ancient reappeared but encounter with Renigra made Fen excited about the next time. Perhaps he could hear of one of the first times lifeforms of different elemental domains had mixed. The potential before and after comparison of that could almost be held in one’s hands.

Traits

Fen is patchy mainly green arcane fae. His wings are dark bluish grey and have greenish yellow dots that are brightest on the edge of the wings. He got the wing paint as a gift from Malvadust soon after he graduated as healer. Fen’s crests, cheek fins and body have mild green smoky patterns crossing them. Fen is known for his very large crests and frills that move very fast when he gets excited that it is almost a miracle he doesn’t fly with them. Along with his crests his wings are also large and have small holes due to his careless nature. He has common pink eyes.

Fen is said to wear moss which isn’t totally untrue. Excluding his bag in which he hold his notes and all other junk his clothes are not enchanted to be waterproof and tend to either collect or grow water plants on them. His green mage coat is easily recognized by the shrooms that grow on it. Along with the green coat and tunic under it he also has green socks and gloves and a hat which he uses as a net most of the time. His tail is wrapped with green canvas that protects it from his kelpie’s teeth when she drags Fen out of dangerous situation. He also has a scarf which doesn’t seem to have other use than act as extra socks or gloves and to dry Fen’s glasses when they get wet. Fen is slightly nearsighted and uses his copper glasses to see things better in the wild. How they are still in one piece remains mystery to all.

Fen spends a lot of time with other dragons and his voice is far from monotone. He has energetic, fast and slightly rough voice and his enthusiasm is hammered home with his crest movements. His speech isn’t hard to understand per se but it can be a bit hard to stay up with as Fen likes to imitate animal noises and tends to do that mid-sentence just because he is excited. If one doesn’t get what he is trying to say they can ask and Fen will retell it hopefully less excited. He sounds like having mild Irish accent when being somewhat calm state.

Fen is curious, enthusiastic and easily distracted dragon with a bit of an impulsiveness. When he finds something he has never seen before being careful isn’t the first thing in his mind and he most likely approaches it head first leaving others to make sure he doesn’t get hurt. Fen doesn’t mind injuries as long as they don’t prevent him from studying. Injuries are part of life and are not really worth being upset about and taking risks is how new discoveries are made. Fen is very optimistic dragon and it is very rare to see him angry or frustrated. If something doesn’t go as he wants he moves to next things and tries again later.

Unlike most of his fellow scholars Fen is very social and active dragon and spends a lot of time outside. He is always very willing to join gathering groups regardless of their mission even though they are considered optional to scholars. He is a friendly and helpful dragon who comes along with everyone assuming they don’t mind his head first -attitude and quirky behavior and even if someone were to get mad with him he rarely starts yelling back. Local fauna may not like that and it most likely doesn’t even help the situation. Instead he tries to be nice and if others don’t want to be that then that is their problem. Usually Fen is very liked company to gathering journeys as his optimistic and enthusiastic nature bright up everybody’s night and he is also good at finding stuff.

Fen likes animals and is often seen carrying them as part of his studies. They come in many forms ranging from reptiles to mammals to birds to bugs shrunken if needed but he is rarely seen with same animal two nights in a row. There is however one non-dragon who is always with Fen or at least very near: his female kelpie Neva. She is very calm and caring usually acting almost like a mother to Fen pulling her careless son out of dangerous situation. Neva is very liked in the clan and is carried with dragons when they are going to gatherings if Fen is with them. If Fen is not putting his head into a mouth of a manticore then she helps him to move from one place to another and carries stuff he finds especially in swamps which are Fen’s favorite environments. She can also drive dangerous beings, and dragons, away too if needed and angry Neva is something very few wants to see. Fen usually thinks Neva is a bit too protective but is still grateful for her and most of the time doesn’t want to be apart from ”his mother”.

Fen isn’t a mage and uses magic very little though he still knows some spells. He has made his own nest, he can shrink and grow stuff, even living as long as they are not dragons, and make stuff waterproof, at least partly. He can also sense how magic behaves in certain places but he rarely pays attention to that and he isn’t as accurate as other faes though he is slightly more sensitive. Fen can also levitate items but it is very rare to see him do that as he prefers doing stuff with his hands, if they aren’t broken.

Fen is most of the time considered to be more an animal than a dragon and that is easy to see when in the wild. He is very skillful flier, one of the best among faes, he can swim and dive as long as the water isn’t salty using his long neck to get air even in deep, climb and imitate many voices. That is all tied to his knowledge of other living beings and his will to try out how they behave. Though looking a bit insane time to time Fen’s weird behavior has helped him to gain better understanding of the ecosystems than what he would have gained only by watching and reading. He knows a lot about the world and if asked he most likely knows the answer.
