Biography

Gini hatched as part of Starcatchers’, an in-arcane specialized support association, nocturne division. She was part of the first generation and was the youngest of the four young nocturne Starcatchers. It was not their pretermitted life mission, a reason to exist, to help, support and represent neurodivergent dragons but they were trained to be able to do so if there ever was a need or drive. Gini wasn’t the most excited about the lessons but she was able to see a reason to why she needed to attend. Like she some of their kind would not communicate like majority, or their thought process was notably different, and they would need help in world not made for them.

Starcatchers’ training was quite fast, at least the basics were easily learn, and Gini had moved to study other things with her siblings. The starry night sky had caught her attention and as she had looked more into the stars she had learned of the cosmos beyond the sky, and she wanted to learn more of that. She had learned bits and pieces about stars, planets, asteroids and space travel, and through the travel she had learned of morse code. Gini did not speak, it just didn’t feel natural to her. Still, she needed to communicate with other dragons and the code looked like the way to do so. Memorizing the combinations of short and long taps was fun and tapping them against a hard surface made pleasing sound.

Gini had yet to get very into studying the space when an older Starcatcher, a spiral, approached her and her siblings. The elder was Milla who asked if any of the four would be interested in moving to her clan. Gini and her siblings lived at the association headquarters as they waited to be adopted and all of them were excited by the opportunity to move out. Milla told that she needed an assistant, though her job was not demanding, and the clan she lived in the middle of nowhere, basically, in a lesser-known forest called Dream Wood. The clan had plenty of trees within itself, a design choice, but it still had a temple in which to study and two observatories. Gini remained curious even after more detailed introduction while her siblings started to hesitate, and so Gini went with the older spiral.

Milla showed Gini the lair and its residents and Gini did her best to not be distracted. Communicating with Milla or the other residents was a bit challenging as basically none of them knew morse code, except the astronomer Nova. Luckily Gini knew a bit of sign language and that made communicating a bit easier but she was not that good with the signs and not everyone knew what they meant. Milla suggested Gini to improve her sign language so she had easier time getting her thoughts across, and maybe learn to use images for those who refused to learn signs. She in turn promised to learn morse code so Gini could use it with her, as that was what Gini preferred using. Gini was more excited to visit the observatories but understood the importance of what Milla said and decided to use afternoons improving her ways of making herself clear.

Gini settled into the clan well, she got herself her own nest though unlike Milla or the researchers she didn’t reside in the temple. She could have but she preferred living somewhere peaceful, if she needed she could always rent an office or she could use Milla’s. She could also use Nova’s or Astral’s observatory if either happened to be free, but she ended up preferring using her own telescope instead. The observatories had too much distractions for Gini’s liking and she was worried her augite protector could cause a mess in there. Frankly she would have been the one more annoyed by the mess than either of the owners.

When not studying the space or doing calculations Gini either practiced her sign language or she went out to check what others were doing. The latter became much more common as she became fluent with the signing. Milla was the one she saw most due to their work dynamic and she saw Afrodite a lot while she was out there visiting the spiral. The skydancer was Milla’s coworker though she had different profession. That was good as Gini and Afrodite didn’t seem to get along, apparently the diva didn’t like her borrowing the items. Along with the therapists Gini often visited the dragons she was supposed to represent usually just making sure they were alive. Borealis was seemingly Milla’s mate, though both denied Gini’s observation, and such she saw him a lot as well. They though didn’t get along because he couldn’t understand Gini’s methods of communicating and he was annoyed by the tapping she did to do so. Megan also had issues with interacting with Gini but that seemed to be because that was time away from her work. Gini understood that point of view and rarely bothered the diurnal fae. They could use that time doing their works.

Though getting along poorly with the ones she was meant to support, and neutrally with pretty much everyone else, there was one with who Gini did get along. At least she was curious of him and he didn’t seem to mind Gini’s presence. That dragon was Startospher who seemed to have some kind of interest towards night sky. At first Gini didn’t know what it was exactly, not the planets as the skydancer stopped stargazing too early, but she had difficulties asking as the old dragon understood none of Gini’s languages and he was not particularly talky either way. He though did speak and Gini often came to hang out with him when his brother was not there hoping he would tell what he saw in the sky. After getting her telescope she had offered it for him but after trying it once he declined the offer going forward.

After weeks of hoping the skydancer would open up, by chance, Startospher eventually started to explain how night clouds were cool. Gini didn’t see the appeal, they looked like regular clouds when compared to nebulas, but she did understood the love for them. Along with space objects and such she had learned to love numbers, very niche and odd interest to outsiders like the night clouds were. Though lacking both a shared interests and language Gini kind of liked Stratospher, though his guardian brother Trooper scared her a little. If the skydancer was alone and she was in mood for skygazing she usually came to do that with the older dragon just to hang out, as awkward as it sounded. He kind of felt like a kindred spirit to her.

Gini had lived in the clan for about a month and Stratospher had just told what his interest was. She had been studying space when she saw something fall from there, something big. Gini was beyond excited and she dug up her notebook to see where the massive object fell. She had been able to see it was west from the lair but she wanted precise coordinates. Other dragons had also noticed the massive object and they seemed confused. Gini had managed to calculate where the object had fallen; most of it was under the waves west from the Dream Wood but one part looked like it had landed on the landmass. Upon seeing Gini’s calculations rangers thought they should check what had fallen and Gini was beyond excited to join them.

Nova had gone to the Observatory to see if they knew what had fallen while Astral had stayed in her own observatory to see if anything else fell to the Isles. That meant Gini was the only “space expert” available for the scouting trip and while she was happy about that her travel companions seemed less enthusiastic. Fen was probably most excited of the old men while his kelpie, Tahna and Julius were more serious, part of that was probably the lack of shared language. While Gini understood speech she didn’t speak herself and used either morse code or sign language to communicate, and no one in the group understood those. She had to rely on her notebook to get her ideas across and if she had to guess the others seemed worried if they could understand her images either.

The piece that had separated from the big object had landed somewhere on the western edge of the Dream Wood and after a long trip the group managed to find the impact crater. Gini and Fen were both excited and they went to study the hole in the ground. There was some rubble in there, possibly from the thing that had hit the ground, but there were also marks that looked a bit like footprints. They were only visible near the center of the crater but from there both Gini and Fen were able to figure out where the creature had gone. Gini moved faster than the fae and she followed the invisible trail excited to probably see a real alien. The older dragons ran after her.

Eventually Gini spotted the “alien” and she was a little disappointed. She had expected something truly bizarre but the creature looked like someone had mixed veilspun and tundra and given it banescale’s missing arms. It was not an alien, it was a dragon. The alien dragon heard Gini and they turned around as the older dragons arrived to the scene. They spoke fluent Dragonian even if the dialect was a bit old, and they didn’t seem happy to see the modern dragons there. They asked who the young ones were and Julius explained they lived in a clan east from there. He did not give names and asked the hybrid dragon to introduce themselves. They told they were Renigra and they asked what the foreign species did in Dream Wood. Julius was confused as he was very much an arcane dragon but Renigra pointed out he had plague written all over him, and Tahna was clearly child of tree despite his red eyes.

Gini felt rather weird standing between the arguing parties and she used her comet to ask if Renigra had come from space. The moth dragon seemed offended by the question and asked what the shadow bat cared about that. Gini ignored the aggressive tone and was happy to notice the visitor knew morse code. Fen asked what Renigra had against them and they told they had nothing against him, just the creations of other deities. Their and his breeds were created to live in the arcane domain and the other breeds were created to live within their deities’ realm. They should have stayed there. Gini heard Fen point out that Renigra themselves was an ice dragon but the space moth didn’t seem to hear that.

Gini tapped her comet to ask if Renigra could tell her about what they had seen in space and they refused to answer because she was of shadow origin. The space moth talked something about Fen’s kelpie while Gini tried to beg them to answer. She explained that she was interested about the space but Renigra laughed that off saying shadow minion could never understand the wonders of the great unknown. Gini then showed Renigra that she had telescope and starmaps and the moth dragon seemed to really get offended by that. They claimed Gini was mocking arcane and they lunged forward sinking their teeth to Gini’s arm. Gini tried to free herself and as she did that her covers fell over her eyes. Renigra let go after Gini heard Julius fire an arrow.

Gini held her left arm as Renigra turned their attention to the two rangers. The wrist was tingling. Fen came to check her and he lifted the cover from her eyes. Gini barely saw the rangers battle with Renigra at the edge of her vision which was getting blurry and unfocused, Fen talked to her but his speech was getting unclear, breathing got harder and she felt like her body and mind had separated. She had blurry memory of falling and Fen calling her somewhere far away before everything faded to black.

After that Gini had blurry memories of being in clan’s healing offices and either Lifeblood or Malvadust was talking to her. They talked something about aether dragons, being poisoned and having been out for few nights. It took some time before Gini managed to stay awake longer than few sentences and she was told that Renigra’s bite had been poisonous and Gini had been passed out for few nights because of the poison. She had not been fed because her body had been paralyzed, including the digestive system, and she was so hungry she almost didn’t hear what the healers told as she was fed. Renigra was an aether dragon, a breed that had orbited the planet since who knew when. They had now fallen back to Sornieth and Gini was very excited to learn more about the ancient arcanites once she got out of the healing offices. They were all she talked about until the end of the month when she had to focus on the events the support group organized. The interest though didn’t die out and she was back at studying once the month was over. There was so much she could learn from the space moths, who were nicer than Renigra.

Traits

Gini is an arcane nocturne with smallish horns and long tail. Her small body is darkish pink with darker streaks which is decorated with stars that are connected with pale lines similarly to constellations. None of the stars stand out that much but the one at the very tip of her nose scale is usually quite eye-catching to both Gini herself and the dragons she interacts with. Her frill is vibrant dark pink as are her wings which have flame like pattern and a bit of blue on them. The wings sparkle dimly near the edges. Her horns, legs and arms are the same dark pink shade as are the runes that decorate her cheeks and sides. They glow dimly but that is barely noticeable if not in pure darkness, though both legs, arms and horns release occasional floating particles. The runes spell out just pure nonsense or some joke phrases if translated. As a Starcatchers representative Gini wears their exclusive skin that adds even more stars to her body. They follow light spectrum and the red stars are always on the side facing the Sun even when it is down while the purple stars are on the opposite side. Her eyes are naturally pale pink.

As a representative of an in-arcane group Gini feels a need to be a bit fancy and wears a red and golden chasuble with rubies on it. Along with liking its fancy look she also likes the weight it has. Along with the chasuble she has a pink and golden hood covering her neck and eyes to minimize risk of mimicking others’ movements, a golden and purple tail twist, pastel purple bracelet and belt and amethyst anklets. As a cosmologist she also carries her telescope and starmaps on her waist and sometimes she has a notebook slipped under the belt. Gini’s wings are decorated with pink feathers and birdskulls and she has a pink bow on both her right horn and tail. They, as well as the glowing star she carries and the crystal comet that circles her when she is awake, are all used for fidgeting. If her hands are free she may untie and tie her bows, the tail one more often than the head one, or she can squish and stretch as well as throw her glowing star as it is bouncy and flexible. The comet is used if she want to tap something hard and she uses it if she wants to taps some morse code to a fellow dragon. The feathers on the wings are used if hands are not available they being moved around with the tail.

Gini is non-verbal and doesn’t speak naturally. Even regular reacting voices like screams and hums are rare for her. Instead of speaking she communicated through other ways. She can use images but more often she uses sign language but her preferred method is through morse code. She usually taps hard surfaces to create the sounds but she can also whistle and make clicking sounds with her mouth to produce the same effect. She likes the sound of the latter but she doesn’t like how making the sounds feels like. She doesn’t have clear accent but her tone is usually very blunt.

Small pile of pink petals.

Gini is quite work oriented dragon and she is rarely seen relaxing. Even when she has spare time she usually spends that by researching her favorite topic that being space. She is quite diligent and she can spend hours upon hours working on the same issue or studying the same topic. She is also quite initiative and if she feels drive or need to do something she can get to work without problems. With issues she is not interested in and that don’t look like worth the trouble she struggles quite a lot. Gini is very good at memorizing all kinds of nonsense sounding stuff like codes and formulas but she struggles a lot with remembering meetings, names and faces. She is also quite organized and she doesn’t like mess be it in a room or on the graph.

Gini doesn’t like socializing and she is rarely seen actually hanging out. She doesn’t understand social norms and she doesn’t speak normally which makes her feel like an outsider. She has a strong need to mimic others which easily causes her to act inappropriately as the reactions come with delay. That is the reason why she hides her eyes which in turn causes her to miss cues she would not be able to understand even if she saw them. When feeling frustrated she usually acts out by dropping stuff from the table or pulling her claws against a hard surface and that rarely helps her case. Though having social difficulties Gini does interact with other dragons because that is her job to some extent, and if she finds someone with who to hang out with without major hiccups she is very eager to do so.

Gini is accompanied by an augite protector named Salmari. She got him after finishing her Starcatcher training and the protector has been very attached to his dragon mother ever since. Salmari is quite social but also very timid and picky. He is wary of new places and faces but once he gets used to them, which can take a while, he becomes a huge baby. He demands attention when not sleeping and he is very affectionate towards everyone who can give him that. He may even yell jealously if he hears his loved one talk to someone else and come take the attention back. He though never learns to accept other types of food beyond his default diet. Gini likes her companion dearly and does pamper him and play with him when he so wants. However, if Salmari demand too much she will have a playful brawl with him. She usually wins due to the size difference.

Small pile of pink petals.

Gini isn’t that outstanding with magic as she hasn’t bothered learning many spells. She knows the basic size altering and levitation spells and she can create a pink light sphere if she needs one but not much else. However, she has quite good knowledge of space, she can use both morse code and sign language fluently and she is very good with math. Gini knows plenty of mathematical formulas, mostly the ones used in cosmology, she is good with drawing and reading graphs and sheets and she can handle quite large numbers without major problems. She is also quite good at making notes in a way that keeps them well organized even when she adds them at later date.
