Enfields
A multi-species subspecies of feathery, fox-like spirits
Latest Updates!
1/12/24: Major update for the subspecies!
The genes of several variants have been adjusted to include newer genes, graphics have been updated with fresh new art, and some adjustments have been made to the lore and general grammar.
Additionally, a new Variant of Enfield, known as Rogue Enfields, has been added! These powerful, stealthy Enfields are very similar to the Entourages, in the sense that they protect living beings. However, unlike most Enfield variants, are designed to function more like assistants rather than guards, and are typically summoned by mercenaries and assassins.
The Miniature Enfields (Permababy Enfields) have also received a section amongst the breeds now, but do not have mascots yet! So if you’ve got any permababies that qualify for any of the variants, you’re welcome to submit them! I’m looking for 2-3 permababy mascots in total!
The feather graphics issues have been fixed thanks to the addition of the Rogues! Hooray!
Base Lore
After the formation of the first Emperor, mortal dragons and deities alike quickly concluded that some method, to prevent such a disaster from occuring again, was necessary for Sorneith’s survival. With this necessity and the use of magic came the Enfields: fox-like dragon spirits with varying amounts of feathers adorning their forms, amongst few other bird-like traits. Nowadays, formations of Emperors have become a rare occurrence, with the only few incidents being due to a careless lack of Enfields in Imperial graves or individuals deliberately bringing Imperial corpses together (often after killing or somehow evading any present Enfields).
Enfields are typically slightly larger in comparison to Skydancers, Coatls, Obelisks, and Banescales respectively, though sizes may vary from individual to individual. These spirits were created with the purpose to guard the graves of dead Imperials, warning individuals to avoid particular areas when the burial of an Imperial is necessary, or protecting already buried Imperials from malevolent individuals who seek to desecrate their graves. Because the sole purpose of an Enfield’s existence is to protect something, a majority of Enfields are naturally gifted with incredible amounts of magical strength, and are adept at using this magic power in combat. The combination of their power and the ghost-like properties of their forms make them difficult opponents to kill by typical means, though spells meant to dispel particularly powerful spirits often do the trick. Enfields do seem to be capable of producing offspring, but only with other Enfields.
Enfields do not occur naturally after a dragon dies or is buried. They must be manually summoned into the world to serve their purpose. Luckily, the ritual to summon an Enfield is not all too difficult for adept spell casters, requiring a ritual circle, an incantation, and an item that relates to what the Enfield must guard, such as a bone for Gravewatcher Enfields. It is evident that BeastClan mages are also capable of casting the spell necessary to summon an Enfield and these Enfields do serve the BeastClans willingly.
Over time, curious mages began to summon Enfields with other items, creating new variants that would guard various other subjects and locations, such as hoards and prisons. Some Enfield variants are also summoned with the purposes of guarding entire lairs, pathways, territories, or even living creatures.
Tl;dr: Fox-like dragon spirits with feathers adorning their bodies, originally summoned to guard the graves of Imperials to avoid the creation of more Emperors. Overtime, Enfields would be summoned for guarding other things, such as hoards, living beings, and even entire territories.

Greater Enfields
Coatls
Greater Enfields are most easily recognized by their curly fur and two pairs of wings. They are typically created with immediate access to more magic power in comparison to Lesser Enfields, though it isn’t impossible for Lesser Enfields to become more powerful than a Greater Enfield over time, with training. If a Lesser Enfield so desires, they could also transition into a Greater Enfield to gain a significant boost in power, at the cost of losing their ability to sense magical energies. Greater Enfields are summoned nearly the exact same way as a Lesser Enfield, but require using more of that sacrificial item during the ritual.

Lesser Enfields
Skydancers
Lesser Enfields are most easily recognized by their bright gems/antennae and partially feathered wings. They are typically created with a great deal of magical power, though less so in comparison to their Greater version. To make up for this, they have the ability to sense nearby magical energies and emotions, similarly to the Skydancers they resemble. To make the most of this ability, they are most preferably summoned to use as a sort of early warning system, as they have a tendency to scream when there is danger approaching their charge. Which is very useful for either scaring away threats, or drawing the attention of those that will be able to fight in the Lesser Enfield’s stead. They are also the smallest of all Enfield breeds, and have no special summoning requirements.

Celestial Enfields
Obelisks
Celestial Enfields are most easily recognized by their massive size, their bulky build, and the swirling fur of their mane and tail. That iconic swirling fur resembles those seen in stylized ink paintings of divine creatures of legends originating from the Windswept Plateau, hence, the breed being dubbed as “Celestials”. This breed is considered the odd one out of all other breeds of Enfield, as they seem to much prefer claw-to-claw combat in comparison to the magic-wielding Lesser, Greater, and Aria Enfields. And although they still have a note-worthy amount of magic power, they instead use it to enhance their melee capabilities. They are also the largest of the Enfields, in terms of sheer size and bulk. These particular Enfields occur if the incantation is shouted rather than merely spoken.

Aria Enfields
Banescales
An Ancient breed of Enfields, most easily recognized by their forward-curving horns, spiky back-of-the-neck mane, and wyvern-like shape. These particular Enfields excel in the use of tonal manipulation and other forms of sound-based magic. Able to perfectly mute the sound of their steps, breath, flight, and many other things around them, these particular Enfields tend to be incredible with stealth. They also are skilled with trickery, using their magic to create sounds that don’t otherwise exist. These particular Enfields occur if the required incantation is sung rather than spoken.
{No mascots yet! Feel free to submit some!}
Miniature Enfields
Permababies
Not a specific breed of Enfield, but rather tiny, baby-like versions of the Enfields they resemble. Unlike any other Enfield, Miniature Enfields are unable to speak draconic languages, and their small stature makes them of little to no use for guarding anything. But, these well-mannered familiars are most popularly summoned as simple companions or even service animals! They are unable to be or become Fallen, meaning they are far less risky to summon for much less experienced mages. Miniature Enfields are summoned the same way as all other breeds of Enfields, but require a simplified version of the Enfield ritual circle.
