There is Something deep in the Foxfire Bramble. A nameless Imperial. Something Isn't Right. It Sleeps and Sleeps and Sleeps, never waking. Ensnared by thorny vines. And in the shadows, a spirit, keeping at bay any who may seek to free the slumbering creature. The spirit looks like a skydancer at first, until you look closer. On second glance it--they--look like a fox. A fox with a coat so dark it's hard to see them against the shadows. The Clan doesn't speak about the spirit. They learned long ago not to speak To the spirit. The spirit guards the Imperial. Dutiful. Diligent. Never resting. The spirit tolerates only one dragon: the Commander. The Commander is believed to be the spirit's summoner, to guard the massive Imperial that slumbers among the vines. The spirit themself grudgingly accepts silent company and others of their kind. They often will tolerate the youngsters of the Clan pesering them, even. Adults are not treated so kindly. == "What is it?" asked the Fostered, watching from afar. The Autumn Knight held his son close, watched the foxlike spirit preen their feathers and run their birdlike paws over their ears and antenna. "In my first home, we called them 'Enfields'." he said. "This one is a guard of some sort." "What's an Enfield?" The Fostered asked, frills flapping excitedly. A foxlike ear flicked and fixed on the pair's location, green eyes bright and sharp between the brambles, assessing the threat posed by a well armed Fae and a hatchling. "A precaution." The Autumn Knight answered. "Guards, protectors. Respect them and they shall respect you." "It doesn't speak." complained the Fostered. "They don't need to. We understand what they want us to do, do we not?" He pressed is muzzle to the top of his son's head, silently urging him to understand. The Fostered fell quiet, frills low, as he considered this. "It--" he started, "They," the knight corrected, "They want us... to stay away from the big imperial?" the Fostered supplied. Relief coursed through the knight. "That is correct." he purred. "And we can do that, yes?" "Yes!"
