Biography
Ásjá the Reckless
Warden Enfield of Lonewood
|
In a different life Ásjá would’ve been the ideal picture of motherly compassion and gracious nobility. Guarding an underground prison for centuries or more has dampened these qualities but not quite extinguished them. Ásjá still follows a code of honor and doesn’t always overlook those in need of help. When Ásjá believes in something she’ll pursue the outcome no matter what, showing exceptional stubbornness while doing so. She is cynical and callous to most, though is considerate to those considered friends. Ásjá’s trust is hard to earn but her loyalty is unwavering. While Ásjá is no angel she will protect the innocent in her own way which is making sure no prisoners ever escape Lonewood. Meeting Ásjá for the first time can be deceiving and confusing. She’ll put on an almost friendly mask to lure you into a false sense of security. The moment you start to trust and even like this enfield, Ásjá will somehow throw you into the Farms just to see if you’re strong enough to survive. At least she doesn’t allow you to die there. Meeting your death to an unfortunate venomous bite afterwards is okay though.

History Ásjá was summoned when a clan of dragons decided to open Lonewood to admit a last set of prisoners. The clan had determined that the original protections were too thin and believed that with another enfield warden the ancient prison would be safe. While this held true, it felt like a condemnation to Ásjá. The only other warden, Haldorðin, spent years avoiding Ásjá’s attempts to know him. Ásjá figured that the best way to survive her eternal watch over Lonewood would be to spend time in the other warden’s company. So even when Haldorðin resorted to violence to fend off Ásjá’s determination, she persisted. Ásjá refused to let herself dwell alone and fall into madness simply because of an antisocial introverted coward. Of course, Ásjá would never admit to calling Haldorðin that. At some point Haldorðin defeatedly allowed Ásjá to learn more about them and their immeasurable watch over Lonewood. In turn Haldorðin would question Ásjá about anything she might remember or know about the world outside the prison. What amused Ásjá for years was how Haldorðin sought out her company using various excuses. It became a game between the two of them, to see how Ásjá would react each time Haldorðin thought up a new excuse. Ásjá doesn’t remember when their tentative courtship of each other turned into being mates but doesn’t particularly care. As long as the pair was inseparable and could rely on each other Ásjá would be happy. Ásjá’s found both a hobby and love in caring for Lonewood’s Supply Farms. She enjoyed the calming effect of caring for the docile organisms of the self-sustaining ecosystem. Meanwhile Ásjá could make a game out of dealing with the more dangerous organisms whether to prevent overpopulation or simply gather meals for the prisoners. This underground ecosystem almost surpasses the dangers of the Shrieking Wilds and if Ásjá was a normal dragon she would’ve long since perished. Currently With the addition of new wardens Ásjá’s primary focus is caring for the Supply Farms. She still patrols occasionally to fulfill the requirements of her enchantments but is more often found in the Farms. If Ásjá finds herself bored enough she’ll invite other wardens to attempt hunting in the Farms or even find a low risk prisoner to scare. This is perhaps the most sadistic of Ásjá’s personality but can result in frightening results. It’s probably luck more than anything that everyone Ásjá has brought into the Farms has survived. Or maybe it’s the fact that even the Farms fear and respect her. Ásjá’s idea of offspring is that they are simply future wardens or warriors. She doesn’t care much about being maternal or kind but prefers to brutally train them the best she can. Ásjá trains her hatchlings to be smart and vicious in any sort of fight. She’ll recruit Haldorðin or Zuras to help with training when she sees fit. As a training tactic Ásjá will send her hatchlings after a certain age to navigate and survive the Farms with only each other for help. This hasn’t resulted in death yet, but has resulted in permanent injuries. It’s not surprising that nearly all of Ásjá’s hatchlings found a life far from their mother. Familiar It can't be surprising that Ásjá enjoys the company of a dangerous creature. This unusually large Tunnel Hydra is named Jǫrmungandr after a giant snake Ásjá heard of in passing. Ásjá isn't friends with this creature but simply a rival in the Farms. They enjoy clashing frequently and between them are a rampant pair of rivals that never quite finish one another off. |
