Biography
Malla was the second oldest of her five hatchling litter losing only to Saana. When they hatched the hatchery was full of young dragons and their caretaker Kaamos often told them stories to entertain them. Malla liked those stories, especially the stories about pretty and adored princesses that were saved by a handsome prince and got happily married were her favorites. Malla wanted to be like those princesses, kind, polite and pretty as well as helpful and modest, and often role-played as one. She kept behaving like a princess after leaving the hatchery and spent her time cleaning her spiral scales or looking for something pretty to wear. She didn’t work much as princesses did not do that but lend a hand if someone seemed to need that. Sadly, she was rather air-headed and often managed to get her spiral body tied. She had to be helped by those dragons she had tried to help who she then thanked politely like princesses did. Malla continued to help others when she had time even though others more often than not asked her to not bother. She though didn’t see point of them being modest and helped them anyway rarely actually doing anything productive that wasn’t harmful. One night Malla joined an insect gathering group even though they asked her to stay home and flied to a new place with them. To maximize their catch they split very soon leaving Malla look for insects all by herself. Malla having never actually caught anything struggled to find anything. Eventually she heard something and curious she went closer. It was not an insect but a large weird creature which Malla did not recognize. Knowing how princesses were good with animals she called it which caused it to attack her. Surprised Malla tried to fly away but the creature was too fast. She screamed for help and eventually a larger dragon leaped in challenging the creature. He drove the creature away with ease and Malla saw that the brave, and handsome, dragon was Julius, son of the clan founder and basically a prince. After the battle Julius asked if Malla was alright and Malla being sure that was her ”be saved by the future husband" -moment thanked him more than twice expecting him to carry her home as her wings and legs felt weak. That though did not happen and Julius left without a word once Malla’s gathering mates arrived. She was confused by that and after arriving back home she asked Julius’ whereabouts from her mother, Azul. She told he was meeting Malvadust, clan’s herb wizard. Malla headed to his office where the mirror was. She thanked him once again wanting him to notice her but the mirror just repeated the same answer he gave at the gathering area and left without even looking at the spiral. Malla was a bit mad that Julius didn’t seem to realize he was supposed to take her and fly to the sunset. Hoping that he would notice her she followed him as he went to the wood trying to get his attention by asking about his work. Julius answered but rarely looked at her except when monsters were attacking them. Wanting to get her ”saved by the lover" -moment and noticing that getting attacked gave her Julius’ attention Malla often tried to get attacked even though the monsters freaked the heck out of her. Still, the mirror did not seem to notice her the way she wanted but Malla didn’t want to give up repeating her strategy until it would work. Eventually one evening Malla succeed finding an unsigned message that asked her to come meet the writer in a rarely visited place. Expecting finally getting proposed she made sure she looked pretty before heading to the place to meet during darkest hours of the night. Upon arriving to the place Malla though was surprised when she did not find Julius. Instead the one expecting her was a small creature having covered herself with dark clothes. She told Malla how disappointed she was with her asking her son’s attention selfishly but Malla didn’t understand what she tried to say. After trying to ask creature’s name she came to conclusion she was the evil witch but she passed out before being able to run. She eventually woke when Azul called her name standing on her nose. She looked very small and Malla wondered if the witch had shrank her. However, upon getting up, Malla noticed that everyone looked small and after noticing she had no ears to move she realized she had been turned into a guardian. Not being small and cute anymore Malla almost started crying fearing she might not get her prince now. She wanted to know who had done this to her and asked Julius to figure that out knowing he had been looking for a creature that turned the dragons in the lair into other breeds. She hoped that being bigger meant she was seen more easily but hoped she was not too heavy for his taste. Malla kept spending time with Julius hoping the mirror would notice him. At least he didn’t seem to think she was ugly which made Malla calm down a little bit with being cursed by a witch. That was good as Malla remembering a story where a kiss of true love broke a curse put on a princess hoped Julius was her prince to break her curse. The mirror though was not interested but Malla refused to give up being sure he was her prince. Malla kept following the mirror trying to still get attacked as that seemed to give her his attention. Her large size did not make the monsters any less scary and Malla was always worried that freaking out might make her look stupid instead of cute. Months passed by and Malla had still to manage to get the response she wanted. One night she was following Julius admiring how he worked when they heard a weird noise approaching and a crystal snake spider creature ran towards them. Malla screamed and started to ran away being blocked by the trees every step. She had not gone far away when she heard Julius’ painful scream and turned to see what was going on. Julius, being the brave dragon he was, was fighting the creature but it seemed dominant. Malla felt fear for Julius' life pressing her claws into the ground. The creature pressed the mirror against the ground and Malla without a second thought rushed to help him. The creature was slightly smaller than she was but she could barely push it away and not knowing how to battle the creature managed to wound her a lot before running into the wood with reinforcement going after it. Malla was feeling tired but could not rest when the cuts on her shoulder started to scream with pain and before she realized crystals started to appear around it spreading across her body. Panicking she could barely tell what was going on around her but she was pushed against the ground and given something liquid. She later woke up in the healing offices where Kanerva explained that she had panicked and blacked out because of the sedative drink she was given to make her stop moving so much. The healer explained that she had been able to stop the crystals thanks to an amulet around Malla’s neck but had not been able to remove them as the magic was foreign for her. That left Malla being partly fused with crystals across her body from head to tail tip being worst around her chest. 
Malla was upset. Nothing in her life had gone like she had hoped. Her ”prince” didn’t seem to care about her, if he even was a prince, she was turned into a guardian by an evil witch and the protective instincts had driven her to battle a monster that had turned her into a walking crystal abomination. She was ashamed of her look and the situation she was in and not standing the looks others gave her Malla sneaked out of the healing rooms into the wood. Malla found a place to hide in the wood and lied down there depressed by her state. She wondered why her life had gotten so bad, why she did not get the happy ending the princesses got. Then she realized that though Julius still was technically a prince she herself was not royal blood being daughter of a messenger and a prophet. Realizing that Malla closed her eyes hoping to be forgotten into the wood. That though didn’t work too well when Julius happened to find her, probably because of all the crystals. Not feeling like having a company Malla asked to be left alone which Julius did. Malla, wanting to avoid being found by Julius changed her hideout often but that didn’t seem to work and the mirror always seemed to find her. Luckily he still showed no interest towards her and moved on as soon as he saw her. One night however Julius came to meet Malla bringing a cottontail rabbit with him staying even after she asked him to leave. He asked her to eat the rabbit saying she looked starving and not really wanting to be rude she started to eat. He asked why she kept hiding and Malla explained she didn’t want others to see her with unnatural gembond she had. Julius explained that hiding did not help her get rid of the crystals and she should stay with Kanerva so she could find the cure. He left after saying that and Malla was left wondering if she could get her normal look back. Julius came to meet Malla the following night and she hoped he finally started to care about her. She asked him to bring the healer to her but he did not want to bother her and told Malla to go to her. Idea of going into the lair looking like she did did not excite Malla and after debating what to do Julius offered to escort Malla into the lair. Malla saw her chance of actually spending time with her prince and followed the mirror into the lair where Kanerva was already waiting her to come back. She asked Malla to step in so she could study the crystal infection while Julius returned to the wood. Kanerva went through book after book trying to find any hints of the cure and even cut pieces of the crystals to try some spells on them. Those pieces where from crystal spines and Malla did not even feel them being cut. While Kanerva was busy trying to unravel the crystal mystery Malla was worried about Julius fearing a similar creature that had caused the crystal infection on her could attack him. Having nothing to do Malla called Azul and asked her to bring Julius to come see her. Julius did come to visit Malla who was happy to see him alright. Being bored in the healing offices she asked him to visit her every night so she could make sure he stayed unhurt. Julius though did not come visit her the following night nor the next and after Kanerva let Malla leave the room she went to look for him. She found the mirror near the Hoard going through his arrows. Worrying for his safety Malla asked to join Julius during his creature control but that seemed to made Julius, usually so calm dragon, angry. Julius said that he was sick of Malla, that she had made his job painful and even more dangerous than it needed to be and told how incompetent she was. Malla knowing she had tried to get attacked on purpose wanted to pay back her stupid behavior and told she could improve but Julius told he rather worked alone. Malla believed that was just a lie, he wasn’t a loner because he had helped her but Julius told he had helped her because they were clan mates and nothing more. After that he ran into the wood. Julius’ words hurt Malla greatly she having always thought he saw her as more than a friend but in truth saw her as lesser as that. Trying to hold her tears Malla returned to the healing offices and asked Kanerva to let her be alone for sometime. She thought about the past months and realized Julius might be her charge and became scared about the idea of him being so angry at her that he would not let that be the case. She came to meet Julius few nights later apologizing her past behavior and asking him to be her charge hoping he would understand. He though told he did not want a guardian and that he had had enough of her already. Malla having feared that answer turned to return to Kanerva when she remembered something about her breed change. She could not remember the details but told Julius it had had something to do with him. Malla spent the following months helping Kanerva find the cure to her crystal fusion though Malla could barely understand anything the books said and she wasn’t good with anything else either. One night the clan had a trial against a dragon named Nemo and having not been able to make progress both Malla and Kanerva came to see what the case was all about. There was a long list of crimes that were presented to Nemo, among them was both Malla’s breed change and the crystal creature that had been Milla under a spell. As Nemo explained that she had turned Malla to a guardian as punishment for putting Julius into danger all the time and then used Milla to trigger her guardian instincts Malla remembered that the witch had called Julius ”son”. She asked more reasons to why she had done that, including attacking Julius to get her hurt, but she just said she was stupid. Not being surprised by that Malla glanced to the mirror who seemed like wanting to shoot his mother and Malla decided not to bother him anymore he not looking too ideal anymore. After the trial Kanerva was able to find the cure for Malla’s gembond using the knowledge of it being caused by dragon magic. She was able to revert the spell, after few tries, but both because Malla was so big and the magic was so strong she was not able to fully remove the crystals. Few of them remained across Malla’s body but they were small and they did not try to spread allowing Malla to get rid of the amulet and wear pretty clothes once again. She decided to stay as guardian to remind herself of her past and started to wonder what could be her charge with her target of feelings hating her and being horn deep in revenge.
Julius seemed somewhat angry for a very long time and though Malla felt bad for still being interested in him despite of his resentment she had hard time not to pay attention to his bad mood. She though was able to keep herself from coming to talk with him being sure that would not end well. Why Julius seemed so angry remained as mystery to Malla for a long time until Nemo she having ran away after her trial came back Malla realizing he had been mad to his mother. He wasn't happy to see her again but after some time he started calm down that giving Malla hope that they could get along again someday. She though was afraid of approaching him and decided to wait till he would make a move she spending her time trying to make her petal gecko her charge just in case. Time went on Malla mostly just just reading or dressing up her gecko while waiting Julius to reconsider becoming her charge, if he remembered what she had told long ago. That though didn't seem like going to happen and Malla feared losing another potential charge after her gecko turned hostile out of nowhere. The gecko though was not the only one to become feral as every non-dragon turned like that. Julius seemed to be looking into the reasons and Malla trusting he would solve the case was hopeful to things to turn back to normal soon enough. Weeks passed by but the mystery surrounding familiars was not getting any closer to being solved. Eventually one evening the clan got some bad news after a strong earthquake that reshaped the lair itself. The clan Malla included was still confused when Shadow and Sapny stepped forth telling they would sacrifice the entire clan to summon the Shade and they would curse anyone who tried to stand in their way. Malla got very scared after the news and hid the first nights following the announcement. However, after noticing Julius having taken charge in the lair in absence of the leaders she decided to come out and see what he would do. She got very scared when she noticed him trying to prevent mages' plan and stayed somewhat close just in case. The mages had not noticed Julius' actions until he helped Utu out of the lair to get help after which Sapny came to see what they were doing. Julius denied having done anything but Sapny didn't seem to believe him Malla getting scared of what she would do. The mages had already turned Milla into a monster as a warning and Malla didn't want them to make Julius their pawn. The situation was getting tense and Malla decided to open her mouth to defend Julius. She was not sure what she said though it was probably something about Sapny being blind to notice that bigger threats were elsewhere or something like that. Lies to get her attention. Malla wasn't sure what had happened but she seemed to have passed out while making up lies the clan suddenly looking way more chaotic than what it had been just a moment ago. Julius was gone as was everyone else Malla being surrounded by totally unfamiliar dragons she feeling somehow very stiff. The dragons told that she had been a stone statue for days and suggested her to come talk to them if she started to feel like petrifying again. Malla didn't care about that and asked Julius' whereabouts the lair having a lot of wounded dragons. They didn't know where he was but Azul was able to tell he was alright. The clan had taken a heavy hit from mages' actions. The summoning had been prevented but many had wounded of even worse, died, among them Kanerva and Nemo. Julius' father Alfa had been wounded quite badly and he eventually decided to step down from his leadership position. That was offered to Julius during the conference addressing the aftermath of the summoning he hearing the news the same time as everyone else. Malla got a little excited both older leaders having their own guardians but that little hope was crushed when he said he did not have a guardian nor did he want one. He glanced at Malla when saying that like saying he didn't want to be her charge no matter what. Malla turned her eyes to her gecko to hide the pain hoping she could change her charge who still seemed to remain as Julius.
Life returned normal slowly but surely. Julius did his father's job the best he could Malla knowing he would never ask her help like Alfa did with his guardian Obsidius. Julius had a lot of friends who could help him from the ranger group, and the only out-of-lair thing to worry about was all the fire dragons Tina brought to help with the building projects. During the earth holiday Alfa took his place back Julius returning to work as ranger only Malla fearing that was because he didn't want to feel pressured to have guardian by his side. Not having much to do Malla helped the clan to make the lair pretty when she was allowed to help. Everyone knew her as very clumsy and despite being quite large she was not allowed to help with lifting and such. Instead she just cleaned the finished buildings and occasionally helped to decorate them but her workload was always minimal. Eventually the entire lair was finished just in time for the annual House Cup, and the summoning incident anniversary, and having nothing else to do Malla just withdrew to wonder what she should do with her life. She was a guardian without a charge, or a guardian whose charge did not like her. She should at least find something that made her feel like she had a charge be that a new dragon or a job. Soon after the House Cup the clan took in few dozen water scholars Malla doing her best to avoid them. She was feeling insecure about her situation and it didn't help that some of the water scholars gave her looks, Malla not being sure how to describe them. If not hiding in her nest she was in clan's new bathhouse wasting time, taking beauty baths. She was there pretty much every night being most likely the most common customer in there but she herself never gave it too much of a thought. The smells in there just made her feel calm with her inner crisis and she occasionally asked the owner what his runes told about her situation but they didn't feel helpful, ever. They just told she was feeling lost and she should look for a new meaning. The bathhouse was ran by Tarantula and his four animal companions. It was not the busiest building the clan and Tarantula could easily leave it be empty while he did something else. However, soon after most of the water scholars left few having longer booking in the clan inn came to ask Malla why the bathhouse was closed. Malla didn't know nor did she understand why the scholars, or prophets, asked her. After a short conversation they told that they thought Malla worked in the bathhouse considering she spent so much time in there and she looked like someone who would work in there. Malla wasn't sure what she was supposed to do she not being sure if it was rude for her to break the visitors' beliefs. Her gecko thought she should not break that and actually suggested Malla go run the bathhouse while Tarantula was gone. Malla was very unsure about that but the gecko seemed sure it was fine. Tarantula had not locked the bathhouse and Malla stepped in trying to hide the fact her belly was full of butterflies. She had visited the house enough times to be able to tell what was offered for what price and made her best to offer the visitors the calming bath they were looking for. When she escorted them out of the pools and to the lobby she almost screamed seeing Tarantula standing behind the counter. He hoped the visitors had had a nice stay acting like the situation was normal Malla too trying to act like that. After the visitors had exited the building an awkward silence filled the lobby Malla gecko hiding under Malla's scarf before she decided she should get going. Tarantula though asked her to stay for a moment Malla rushing to apologize about breaking in. Tarantula was oddly chill about the whole situation saying what she had done was fine followed by compliments for the work well done. Malla felt really awkward standing in the lobby thinking what she should say. Tarantula was the one to break the silence he offering Malla a work in the bathhouse since she seemed to be decent with it and she was in need for something to do. At first Malla was confused about how he knew about that assuming that the water dragons had told about that she being sure they read minds until she remembered she had asked for a new direction for her life quite a few times. Malla asked if Tarantula was sure about what he said. He was and feeling relieved Malla decided to accept the offer staring to help around the bathhouse hoping she would not screw up too badly like she had done so many times before.

  Name origin: Named after a fell in Finland. Malla is also a female given name. The name was affected by her sister, Saana, and song "Haltin häät" by Taiska which Finlandia listened a lot during the time Malla hatched.

Traits
Malla is a blue arcane guardian with body having a giraffe pattern, purple wings with three shades making it look like they have layers of feathers from afar and darkish blue stripes on her back and at the edges of her wings. Having suffered for a weird crystal infection for a long time she has small leftover crystals decorating her body from face to base of her tail being shaped a bit like shells. The scar that caused the crystal fusion back then is on her right shoulder. Malla was originally a spiral and that can be seen from her overall body structure. She has a long body, especially her middle body is long when compared to other guardians, but she is overall smaller and has rounder face. Her leg fins are large but around her face and belly they are barely noticeable and she has large round eyes as reminder of her origin as spiral. Malla likes to dress and look like a classic fantasy princess. She isn’t quite sure what kind of princess she wants to look like or what colors she would like to wear but is currently into green and blue. She has bluish green dress having a green silk sash and scarf on that, similar to what she has on her legs, four pairs of fins one green and silky under her wings and blue and silver glass ones on her hip, shoulders and head where they acts as her crown with bluish green unicorn horn and an emerald jewel. She has bluish green plait wig on her tail and head which has a green sparkling bow on the right side of the head. She also has jade earrings on her horns due to her lack of ears, a similar looking ring on her left hand where her wedding ring would be and small pearl strings decorating her body connecting the silver and blue fins together. Malla’s voice changed rather little after her breed change. It has always been rather high though not by spiral standards, shy and a bit silent, modest and naive. She always speaks formal and polite way tending to speak to others like they were higher than she is calling them either "sir" or "madam". Malla gives a lot emphasis on others’ genders having hard time calling dragons who prefer neither pronoun. She has mild Finnish accent.
Malla is polite and overall kind dragon but also incredible stupid and naive at the times. She adores fantasy princesses to the point of being like them, sweet and polite but doing nothing else than waiting to be helped or saved by someone strong. She really wanted to get her princess ending and was stubborn to get it even when it didn’t work with the plan she used being too stupid to change it. After her breed change and the crystal infection her princess obsession has toned down a little bit though she still holds to her manners and hasn’t really gotten much smarter. If she has learned something it is to not try to get something repeating the strategy that doesn’t work after many attempts and to not bother others with her wishes for too long she having lost her potential charge that way. Malla is attention-liking dragon but modest doesn’t want to force herself into anyone’s company having learned hard way to not do that. She though doesn’t mind being left alone, at least she doesn’t complain about being lonely though being the polite dragon she is she doesn’t see complaining right. If she finds herself in social situation she tends to be quiet not wanting to interrupt anyone answering only if someone talks to her. However, if it is just she and the one she likes to spend time with she might be very talkative finding silence a bit awkward. She though tends to ask if she is being annoying knowing that can be an issue it too being the reason she lost her potential charge. Malla doesn’t have a charge and having no need to focus on them she has no issue of having a familiar. While trying to find the cure for her crystal infection she was given a princess petal gecko to play with not being very useful with medical stuff. The gecko, Taiska, is a bit spoiled by Malla often wearing princess clothes, commonly a crown and few jewelry, and often makes sure she is proud of them. Taiska can’t talk but is very talkative with her body language and makes sure everyone knows if they hurt her pride. All except Malla for who she is grateful for all the pretty things she is allowed to wear and who often tells her thoughts to her. For Malla Taiska is the one to who to tell her thoughts to get them out of her chest.
Malla is notorious for being incompetent with everything. She can fly, walk, read and write a little bit but she can’t swim, use magic or do anything else without a risk of screwing up. That is because of her princess obsession and the fact that in stories princesses never actually do anything. Her low intelligence doesn’t help her with improving her skills. |
