Some dragons from the nature flight wandered to far into the Pox Consultant; a place long since abandoned and remains a scar on the lush Labyrinth gardens. But some mysterious, fatal and alternating diseases have originated from within and at first infected just a small handful of dragons. But more and more of these "Withered" are starting to appear from all over Sornieth, though the cause is unknown.
Some come from far away, others travel to the consultant themselves. But a band of researchers and dragon alike from various clans have gathered in an alliance to find the cause of this sickness and bring it to an end.

Thus far the only known symptoms to us is what was gathered by Vex, clinical clerk of the Folk Clan. Over the course of several moons, he has witnessed various phenomenons regarding the Withered. While he thought the disease was contained, somehow more dragons from all over have contracted this illness. What causes it is still unknown, but some significant symptoms and behaviors have been recognized and researched.
Most notably the effect the sickness has on the scales and skin of the infected. As it changes the very color of the individual! We have narrowed it down to [i]approximately[/i] these ranges.

While we have recorded dragons with [b]various gene's[/b] affected by the illness, there is one in particular we have done extensive research one.

It usually starts small, but supposedly causes very present itchiness to the subject. It can range from anywhere from a rough and scabby texture, to outright melting goop.

We believe this is because it is a progressive infection that eventually causes the scale to slowly rot away from the dragon until they are no longer able to go on. Though we have seen many (we believed shouldn't be able to stand) strong enough to be a serious threat to a perfectly able bodied and healthy dragon. [columns][center][size=5][color=#241b1b][font=High Tower Text]One rather peculiar variant, the Infested, seem to only affect ancient breeds of dragons; [b]Auraboa, Aether, Dusthide, Goaler, and Sandsurges[/b]. These withered have only ever been found down below within the pox consulate caverns, and has lead us to believe are the cause of mass population of bugs down there. These dragons seem to have the ability to attract various insects through means we are not quite sure of. And use their own bodies as a sort of hive for their collective that have some sort of abnormal attachment to them.

These withered are very hard to spot, but only seem attack if they or their hive feel threatened. Though we do have reason to believe they have taken on some more, arachnid type of qualities when it comes to food. One den we found had small dragons wrapped in strong and sturdy webbing. Drained entirely of their blood. We advise scouts and escorts to proceed with caution when entering the underground consulate caves, and make sure to bring some source of light or fire with them. [center][size=5][color=#241b1b][font=High Tower Text]The Veinburst variant is mostly recorded through a wide array of observations, and collectively, an Omen dragon has been identified in Bloodbreak. These many notes have been compiled together to identify the new variant.
These dragons tend to have Tomato through Brick tertiaries that are Veined, and this is literal; these are the exaggerated veins the variant is known for, pulsing slightly out of the skin and causing even greater irritability.
The wings also seem to take on a similar appearance; either Obsidian or Tomato-Brick, exaggerated veins making tinting their wings red.
Their primaries seem to be unrestricted, mostly mirroring what the dragon had beforehand, though tinted the shades of typical Withered.[/center][/size][/color][/font]
[columns][center][size=5][color=#241b1b][font=High Tower Text]These dragons are most notable for the exaggerated red veins over their body, which burst easily from any disturbance. While it looks highly similar to blood, the fluid from these veins isn't nearly as vital, and twice as infectious as usual due to the ease the disease has through this fluid. Never solidifying, the liquid continues to spread and rub off, staining much of their surroundings until the disease is sapped up. This makes them highly contagious, even carried by animals around them. This doesn't mitigate the discomfort, though, and many Veinburst Withered find themselves highly irritable.

Veinburst dragons seem less liable to develop the obsessions that other Withered may, instead growing lethargic and prone to snapping at other dragons nearby. They develop the same type of meat-eating tendencies, and due to a general easier frustration with surrounding creatures, has a higher liklihood to snap at dragons nearby. Some also develop more severe memory loss, forgetting who they were prior to infection instead of strengthening one specific portion of their prior self into an obsession.

They tend to take on plantlike familiars, who seem to irritate their veins less, and especially prefer insectivorous ones like the Janustrap which help pick off smaller pests that may burst their veins.[/size][/color][/font][/center]

They are a particularly dangerous variant, not to be taken lightly if you are lucky enough to spot them before they spot you.
[columns][center][size=5][color=#241b1b][font=High Tower Text]Many of this kind we know to be nocturnal, though this does not seem to be the case for all of them. However a consistent symptom and obvious sign of infection for the Leech variant, is significant acidic damage coated around their lips and fangs. A green sickly goo these mutants tend to cough or spit up, occasionally on purpose.

This sickly acidic mixture has a very pungent lingering and horrid smell to it, and can burn through the scales of your average modern dragon over the course of an hour if the infected area has not been properly cleansed. Approximately two hours tested on willing ancient dragons who permitted quarantine crew researchers to test a sample of this lethal acid for medical research. Not only does it inflict damage upon the unfortunate victim, but also seems to act as some sort of signal to potential hoards of these warped monsters lurking beyond line of sight. You see the majority of captured specimens had a ravenous diet with only one desire, flesh of another dragon.

Almost as if the dragon itself was being used as a mer puppet, bent at the will of something else that lived on inside the body. While scaled and skin maybe become warped the longer this zombie continues on, it still manages to maintain its shape unless damaged in a very particular spot. While we have not been able to narrow down exactly what spot this is, and it seems to vary from subject to subject, we have noted that there will likely be a moldy black substance that infested this spot. Occasionally, one with a keen eye maybe able to spot this mold from the outside. However we have found subjects who show no outward signs of it, though they tend to be weaker in endurance.[/center]

It has been noted on various occasions, Withered dragons start to obtain some kind of 'obsession' as their illness progresses. These obsessions can vary fro hoarding a specific kind of item to the yearning to act upon certain action, or the actions of others. For example we have notes of a dragon whom collected the bones of other creatures within the area, or a dragon who became aggressive towards an individual if they didn't see them express happiness. These obsessions can be something significant to the dragon themselves, or something that spontaneously seems to have taken residence in their own mind. But one thing is constant in each of these cases; the subject become aggressive and violent if these needs are not met. While not every subject displays these actions there is a good majority who do.
We have also recorded peculiar changes in diet! More notably dragons whom once only ate insects and plants only hunting for meat. Even meat from other dragons, no matter the cost. This symptom seems very present and progressive among most of the subjects and can even be considered one of the first signs of infection.

Research Log Of The Infected
Thus far the only known symptoms to us is what was gathered by Vex, clinical clerk of the Folk Clan. Over the course of several moons, he has witnessed various phenomenons regarding the Withered. While he thought the disease was contained, somehow more dragons from all over have contracted this illness. What causes it is still unknown, but some significant symptoms and behaviors have been recognized and researched.
Most notably the effect the sickness has on the scales and skin of the infected. As it changes the very color of the individual! We have narrowed it down to approximately these ranges.
Note: Genes may vary from subject to subject.
While we have recorded dragons with various gene's affected by the illness, there is one in particular we have done extensive research one.
Scale Rot & Infection
One of the most seen of which causes a slow and painful process as the subject's skin and scales die off by some sort of grotesque rash, scar or in some cases bite marks. It usually starts small, but supposedly causes very present itchiness to the subject. It can range from anywhere from a rough and scabby texture, to outright melting goop.
We believe this is because it is a progressive infection that eventually causes the scale to slowly rot away from the dragon until they are no longer able to go on. Though we have seen many (we believed shouldn't be able to stand) strong enough to be a serious threat to a perfectly able bodied and healthy dragon.
One rather peculiar variant, the Infested, seem to only affect ancient breeds of dragons; Auraboa, Aether, Dusthide, Goaler, and Sandsurges. These withered have only ever been found down below within the pox consulate caverns, and has lead us to believe are the cause of mass population of bugs down there. These dragons seem to have the ability to attract various insects through means we are not quite sure of. And use their own bodies as a sort of hive for their collective that have some sort of abnormal attachment to them.
These withered are very hard to spot, but only seem attack if they or their hive feel threatened. Though we do have reason to believe they have taken on some more, arachnid type of qualities when it comes to food. One den we found had small dragons wrapped in strong and sturdy webbing. Drained entirely of their blood. We advise scouts and escorts to proceed with caution when entering the underground consulate caves, and make sure to bring some source of light or fire with them.
The Veinburst variant is mostly recorded through a wide array of observations, and collectively, an Omen dragon has been identified in Bloodbreak. These many notes have been compiled together to identify the new variant.
These dragons tend to have Tomato through Brick tertiaries that are Veined, and this is literal; these are the exaggerated veins the variant is known for, pulsing slightly out of the skin and causing even greater irritability.
The wings also seem to take on a similar appearance; either Obsidian or Tomato-Brick, exaggerated veins making tinting their wings red.
Their primaries seem to be unrestricted, mostly mirroring what the dragon had beforehand, though tinted the shades of typical Withered.
These dragons are most notable for the exaggerated red veins over their body, which burst easily from any disturbance. While it looks highly similar to blood, the fluid from these veins isn't nearly as vital, and twice as infectious as usual due to the ease the disease has through this fluid. Never solidifying, the liquid continues to spread and rub off, staining much of their surroundings until the disease is sapped up. This makes them highly contagious, even carried by animals around them. This doesn't mitigate the discomfort, though, and many Veinburst Withered find themselves highly irritable.
Veinburst dragons seem less liable to develop the obsessions that other Withered may, instead growing lethargic and prone to snapping at other dragons nearby. They develop the same type of meat-eating tendencies, and due to a general easier frustration with surrounding creatures, has a higher liklihood to snap at dragons nearby. Some also develop more severe memory loss, forgetting who they were prior to infection instead of strengthening one specific portion of their prior self into an obsession.
Their infectious veins that easily infect, combined with their tendency towards aggression, makes them a highly infectious variant that needs to be handled with extreme caution, including full-body covering to interact with and complete sanitization before removal of potentially infected clothing.
They tend to take on plantlike familiars, who seem to irritate their veins less, and especially prefer insectivorous ones like the Janustrap which help pick off smaller pests that may burst their veins.
This variant went long undiscovered, until defined by a rather disturbing case of a missing shipyard crew found long after the Withered had been uncovered. They are a particularly dangerous variant, not to be taken lightly if you are lucky enough to spot them before they spot you.
Many of this kind we know to be nocturnal, though this does not seem to be the case for all of them. However a consistent symptom and obvious sign of infection for the Leech variant, is significant acidic damage coated around their lips and fangs. A green sickly goo these mutants tend to cough or spit up, occasionally on purpose.
This sickly acidic mixture has a very pungent lingering and horrid smell to it, and can burn through the scales of your average modern dragon over the course of an hour if the infected area has not been properly cleansed. Approximately two hours tested on willing ancient dragons who permitted quarantine crew researchers to test a sample of this lethal acid for medical research. Not only does it inflict damage upon the unfortunate victim, but also seems to act as some sort of signal to potential hoards of these warped monsters lurking beyond line of sight. You see the majority of captured specimens had a ravenous diet with only one desire, flesh of another dragon.
Not only that but after prolonged observation some of our researchers came to the conclusion that these mutants acted on some sort of instinct not at all consistent to dragon kind. Almost as if the dragon itself was being used as a mer puppet, bent at the will of something else that lived on inside the body. While scaled and skin maybe become warped the longer this zombie continues on, it still manages to maintain its shape unless damaged in a very particular spot. While we have not been able to narrow down exactly what spot this is, and it seems to vary from subject to subject, we have noted that there will likely be a moldy black substance that infested this spot. Occasionally, one with a keen eye maybe able to spot this mold from the outside. However we have found subjects who show no outward signs of it, though they tend to be weaker in endurance.

Symptoms and Behaviors Of Our Subjects
It has been noted on various occasions, Withered dragons start to obtain some kind of 'obsession' as their illness progresses. These obsessions can vary fro hoarding a specific kind of item to the yearning to act upon certain action, or the actions of others. For example we have notes of a dragon whom collected the bones of other creatures within the area, or a dragon who became aggressive towards an individual if they didn't see them express happiness. These obsessions can be something significant to the dragon themselves, or something that spontaneously seems to have taken residence in their own mind. But one thing is constant in each of these cases; the subject become aggressive and violent if these needs are not met. While not every subject displays these actions there is a good majority who do.
We have also recorded peculiar changes in diet! More notably dragons whom once only ate insects and plants only hunting for meat. Even meat from other dragons, no matter the cost. This symptom seems very present and progressive among most of the subjects and can even be considered one of the first signs of infection.
If you come across a dragon experiencing erratic behavior such as this it is advised you avoid them at all costs. Many researchers have made the fatal mistake of trying to reason with such misconduct and met a gruesome end. Keep your wits about you!

We look for the vigorous, capable and headstrong dragon to take this role. To protect from not just Withered; but as well as other threats to our team lurking just around the corner. The guardsmen are highly respected, and rewarded with valuable treasures and gold from our hoard! That is if you escort a scout into the consultant, or fend off local threats from the campsite. We do our most to make sure our guardsmen are fell well, cared for and healthy. Routine checkups maybe required of you as you will possibly come face to face with many infected individuals. This can be performed by a clerk, scout or even a researcher in some cases. But rest assure we have your back as you protect ours!

We look for the vigorous, capable and headstrong dragon to take this role. To protect from not just Withered; but as well as other threats to our team lurking just around the corner. The guardsmen are highly respected, and rewarded with valuable treasures and gold from our hoard! That is if you escort a scout into the consultant, or fend off local threats from the campsite. We do our most to make sure our guardsmen are fell well, cared for and healthy. Routine checkups maybe required of you as you will possibly come face to face with many infected individuals. This can be performed by a clerk, scout or even a researcher in some cases. But rest assure we have your back as you protect ours!
Equipment & Tools
It should be noted that while guards and escorts are advised to properly garner themselves (preferably with armor) this is not a requirement. But keep in mind you will be facing untold dangers, so in the event you do not take these recommendations seriously we will be sure to ship your remains back to your home clan. (That is if we are able to retrieve them)

We have identified this dragon and given them the name 'Blight', as we have reason to believe they are responsible for the out break of the scale rot variation. A scout came across this individual and recklessly came to close to the dragon, and as a result was bitten on their wing. A week after they started to show the starting symptoms of scale rot. We had to quarantine this individual after, and are currently on the look out for Blight. If you come across this one, we advise you to escape as quickly as possible.

It seems there are bugs from all over Sornieth here, even species not at all native to this land. It has also been reported that once someone has entered the area of a hive host, they get the eerie feeling of being watched. We have reason to believe it is not sure the infected individual themselves who usually hang around the ceiling of the cave; but also the bugs in their army. It is still currently unclear how one becomes infected with this variant, but we believe "The Swarm" is the first and oldest of them all.

As time progresses, this disease can be completely detrimental to the dragon's mind. There are several ways to slow this process down and some to remove it. To have a designated partner and familiars. Gene Changing scrolls can get rid of this almost completely, but some lingering effects remain. It is not contagious unless the dragon also has Obsidian Noxtide (and obsidian of the necessary primaries.) With the help of our Quarantine Crew, we have found one source of some of the illness spreading throughout the consultant. Though these dragons do not serve as the only way a dragon may become affected as we've observed, we have reason to believe certain symptoms of sickness itself originates from these individuals. Some still may be on the loose, others contained for research purposes.
We continue our research to peel back the layers to this mystery: what caused these specific dragons to develop these diseases and for what purpose do they spread them? We have yet to uncover an answer to that question... But we can qualify what classifies a withered as an 'Omen':
