Morpho's Journal: Entry 1

I was busying myself in the Wyrmwound by studying the local fauna in search of answers when I felt the ground shudder beneath my claws. Many beasts here would attack me on sight were it not for the looming shadows of a Lightning-born and a Foo brandishing a polearm. Even so, I was quick to take shelter as was anything else in the surrounding area. What my sights set upon was late-stage Scale Rot affecting an otherwise healthy-appearing female Aberration. Vessels pulsed in the sun's light as it shone through the thin membrane between the 'fingers' of her wings, flesh sloughing off to reveal bone underneath; an almost cruel mockery of the skeletal pattern that I could see on remaining scales.

She noticed me even though I had been expertly hidden among what little plantlife exists here in the Wyrmwound. All she did was stare at me, an unnerving grin across both of her blood-soaked muzzles. My body froze up, my muscles tensed, and I had felt my heart near beat from my chest. She was a Water-born... Had the water in this area become contaminated? Or had she come from already poisoned pools? Her eyes stayed on me for what felt like hours, while I'm certain it was mere moments, before she seemed to lose interest and turn away from me.

I knew what I signed up for.

I did not know that it would come so close to me so soon.
