Hope's Journal: Entry 2

They follow me everywhere now, it seems like. I first encountered a Withered that was in its late stages of Scale Rot, and I had thought that to be terrifying on its own. I didn't consider that this disease, even in less severe circumstances, could take over hatchlings. This Withered in particular, I've dubbed 'Charcoal' due to their dark, dusty colouration. Charcoal is relatively nonhostile, constantly talking about a "hunger" that sits like a deep pit in their entire being. I can never get them to elaborate. They simply repeat, "Hungry... I'm hungry..." as though a broken record.

Their jaws bare multiple sets of unnaturally large and ginger-hued, tusklike fangs. I believe this is a result of the disease itself, forcing them to the Withered's signature diet of strictly meat. Charcoal's eyes were normal at one point when I first met them, now the pupils have stretched and curved into dark icy swirls with the iris no longer distinguishable from the sclera. For now, Charcoal remains a harmless shadow that follows me; as for how long they will remain harmless? I can't be certain.
