Dragon Log

Born to a pair of dragons who many of the Clan thought would never get together, she has long been anticipated by her father…and proved herself special almost from the moment of her birth, when her eyes glimmered and shifted color unexpectedly only seconds after she opened them. This incredible feat of magic seems to set the trend for this extraordinary dragon. She is already showing a fascination with dimensional travel and paradoxical magic..and both the Light and Dark sides of the Arcane. She also appears to have a knack for fortune-telling, as she was able to accurately predict the color and gender of each of her three siblings before they hatched.

It is perhaps completely understandable why she is her father’s long-awaited Charge: With the varying and opposite pulls of her magic, and her love of other dimensions, she is going to need a steady influence in her life to make sure that she does not go insane….or disappear into one of the many Gateways she seems so fond of creating…

7-15-18: She had a hard time deciding on a familiar, as a number of creatures presented themselves for consideration, but none of them seemed quite right…except, of course, for that wonderful cauldron that her father, Nightsedge, had a fit over. At least he did not complain too much about the Armored Duskflapper, though he does not seem to understand why she insisted on naming her Tara…

7-18-18: Samhain is not feeling very happy at the moment She was enjoying playing with her magic, creating all sorts of nice doors--and imagining what was on the other side--and imbuing those fascinating brews of Godmother’s with her “chaos” magic, when suddenly everything changed. It seems that her idiot brother Beltane can’t control his own magic that well, and has been causing trouble in the Clan, influencing all sorts of dragons to become amorous with each other. Rather than shutting down the “rogue” Guardian’s power until he is older, and better able to handle his ability, Duskshadow has decided, in her infinite wisdom, to pair the two siblings together, so their magics cancel each other out. Smahain wouldn’t mind so much, as Beltane is usually fun to be around, but not only has this arrangement hindered her brother’s magic, it is interfering with hers! Even worse, her mother, Eveningrose, seems to think that this whole notion is an absolutely wonderful idea, and Nightsedge agrees with his mate….

10-20-18: Tara has Awakened! Samhain is thrilled for her friend, and quite enjoying watching her sweep around the caves. Even better, Beltane does not seem to enjoy the bat's new antics, and so has left her alone for the time being, which means that her magic is working again...perhaps her Godmother, Nebula, will consent to teach her a few things before Nightsegde notices what is going on, and chases Beltane back again? She can only hope...

11-1-18: Nebula paid a visit to her favorite Goddaughter last night...and left something behind for her. Much to Nightsedge's horror, the Ravenous Cauldron, “Bubbles”, bonded with Samhain this morning! Night isn't the only one of the family worried about the unstable Guardian's new addition...but Samhain herself is quite pleased, as she chases--and is chased by--her new friendly fiend....

2-4-19: Bubbles has Awakened! The Clan isn't sure whether to be happy about this or not. On the one hand, the Ravenous Cauldron seems to be more intelligent, and willing to listen to direction. On the other hand, the one one whose directions it will follow is Samhain...

2-6-19: Samhain has officially left childhood behind her, and in the process, she has found the way to control her gift. Apparently, all it took was the threat by her over-protective father, Nightsedge, that if she and her brother, Beltane, could not learn to control their talents, they would have to remain in proximity to each other until they figured out how to suppress the power another way. With the threat of Beltane constantly tagging along and interrupting her looking after her newfound Charge--the caves where the more interesting magics occurred--Samhain desperately tried to suppress her magic...and discovered that all she had to do was "ask." Perhaps there is something to Polgara's ideas about the Will and the Word after all...

2-9-19: To the shock of the entire Clan, not to mention Samhain herself, shortly after discovering her Charge Samhain also discovered an interest in a certain Dark-Colored--but not Dark-tempered-- Pearlcatcher…and now there are 3 eggs on the Hatching Grounds! The bewildered Samhain has moved into the Mating Caves with her new "mate," while she tries to figure out how on Sornieth this whole situation came about...and if by any chance her dratted brother Beltane was lurking nearby….

2-14-19: For better or worse, the eggs have hatched, and Samhain finds herself extremely interested in her three sons. She is not sure she wishes to continue to be the “mate” of their Pearlcatcher father, but she cannot deny that he has given her some beautiful hatchlings…

6-9-19: Lately a tide of magical energy has been sweeping the Clan, causing quite a few magic auras to appear in the visible spectrum, on both dragons who were expecting it, and those who were not. As a result of this phenomenon, Samhain is now sporting both a Murkmirth Halo and a Spellwrought Halo, as well as a Starseer’s Emblem. Considering her magical affinities, the Clan is rather surprised--and grateful--that she didn’t end up with any more than that….

8-31-19: Samhain joined her siblings on a trip to the Flameforger’s Festival this year, ( ) and found some fascinating magic to play with while she was there. So fascinating, in fact, that she brought a number of these odd “fire flowers” back with her, in bottles! ( ) The Clan isn’t sure whether to be more worried about her desire to “release” the flowers, or about her new Embear Armor Gauntlets, which she apparently made herself ( ). It is likely that the “flowers” will not survive outside their bottles, but the sudden addition of protective gear to Samhain’s wardrobe is somewhat concerning…what is it she is going to be working with, that she, a Chaos Mage, wants to protect her claws from? Certainly nothing good….

12-1-19: Today Samhain got a bit of a surprise when Beltane’s flower bottles arrived at the cave: There was an additional gift included! It seems that Samhain and Beltane had both completely forgotten about the Ember Toss Daily Draw…and they had won the Blacksmith Set! ( ) Samhain is not that impressed with most of the pieces, but the Simple Copper Necklace and Simple Copper Bracelets don’t look bad…

…And the Clan Mother is extremely interested in those bracelets. Perhaps, with a bit of finagling, and some help from the elemental mages of the Clan, a way can be found to use those bracelets to temper and control Samhain’s gifts…

1-28-20: Samhain has just returned from watching the first few days of the Sornieth Winter Games, at the Crystalline Gala. It was fun to observe her Clanmates competing, but she is even happier to be home, especially since most of the Clan is still at the Games, including Beltane. Now, perhaps, she can work in peace on freeing that poor magic from those "Fire Flower" Bottles, without needing to worry about that dratted brother of hers interfering...

1-29-20: The Clan is in an uproar! Samhain's experiments with her bottles have created a conflagration of Fire Magic, which is trying to burn down the solid stone in the Lair...and succeeding! Duskshadow has called everyone who can be spared back from the Winter Games to fight this disaster, and Samhain has had her magic shut down completely, and been confined to the innermost cave....

2-7-20: The Clan Mother has calmed down considerably, now that, thanks, in large part, to the combined efforts of every Fire and Water Mage the Clan has at their disposal, the disastrous Fire Forest has been contained. At the pleading of Nightsedge, Samhain has been released from her confinement, and allowed to return to her usual cave. But the Chaos Mage’s Copper Bracelets and Necklace are now infused with a very powerful spell--courtesy of Beltane and Samhain's own son--that shuts down her more volatile magic (except when she is given direct permission to use it from Duskshadow). She still has her "lesser" gifts, but there will be no more unsupervised conjuring of doors, or irresponsible increasing of magical energies--at least, not from this particular dragon. Samhain is not happy about this at all....

…And she is even less happy that her Godmother has banned her from the Potions Cave for the foreseeable future--or at least until she has learned the difference between "borrow with permission" and "steal behind a dragon's back." It seems that Nebula was not pleased to discover that Samhain had used some of the Dark Mage's very rare plants and herbs to aid her attempts to "free" the "Fire Flowers"....

8-26-20: Things have still not completely settled since the “Fiendfyre Flower Forest Fiasco,” as the more dramatic in the Clan have christened Samhain’s releases of the magic trapped inside her bottles. For the life of her Samhain cannot understand why the Clan is so upset. After all, if they had allowed her to release that magic earlier, there wouldn’t have been nearly as much pent up power to deal with, so the whole problem was really not her fault. Unfortunately, most in the Clan do not seem to agree with that very reasonable argument, so Samhain is still stuck wearing those annoying Copper Bracelets. Not even her father has been able to convince the Clan Mother to take them off. Worse, now that the Flameforger’s Festival has come around again, the Clan Mother has instructed Beltane to stick to her like a limpet…

8-27-20: Samhain has managed to shake Beltane at last, and is heading for that strange Forge at the Festival. There have been rumors all day about bats and spiders made out of fire, and she must see this for herself, no matter what the Clan might think…. ( )

8-28-20: Much to Samhain’s delight, there were indeed spiders and bats at the Ancient Forge. Even better, they are not actually made out of Fire, but out of pure ancient magic. She is now the proud owner of a number of new pets, which she cannot wait to get home to her cave. In the meantime, however, she needs to keep an eye on Amber, who she has managed to interest in trying for a couple of mushrooms with the fascinating ability to find minerals, in lieu of chasing the Chaos Mage from the tent before she is ready. Samhain can’t just abandon this fascinating magic before it’s done shifting forms after all… ( , )

…Of course, keeping Amber away from her precious stones and gems never lasts for long. Samhain managed a few more hours of happy contemplation while the Coatl tried for some bottles of her own, but now they are heading back to the caves. Ah, well, at least she has several Bats and Spiders to play with, and even a Firefly or two… ( )

9-22-21: The seasons have turned, and Samhain is beginning to feel her power growing inside her once again. Soon enough it will be “her” day, and she will be able to do some of those experiments she has been thinking about without needing to worry about those pesky dampening spells Duskshadow has placed on her. The Chaos Mage has even started with some small things already, the results of which are…mixed. Samhain does not really mind the Autumn Breeze that has been swirling around her since she started playing with the seasonal energy, but she could have done without that young Autumn Sphinx following her everywhere. Unfortunately, it seems that “Autumna” is here to stay, as she has been eying the Guardian dragon for a long time, and now that the seasons have shifted, she has made her move….

12-19-21: Autumna has Awakened! Perhaps now that she has so much more energy, she might consider engaging in some activities other than watching Samhain all day? The Chaos Mage can only hope...
