And so, one of Icewarden's first acts on being born was inventing ice cream. Magnificent
Niah was more comfortable than she'd felt all week. She didn't begrudge any family members who chose not to join her. Spending Flameforger's in the hottest of realms during the hottest of seasons was hardly an appealing prospect for many thick-furred Tundras. (Flambebes she could only assume were some Mather-given miracle.)
Sniffing her ingredients store, Niah opted to follow that ideal of a memorable meal like she did for the appetiser round. The Tundra figured that denizens of the realm of flame would appreciate a dish that was at once cold and warm.
That day saw the Tundra's best score yet. The première patissier turned his nose up once more, but Niah couldn't care less. Half a dozen contestants had made something with ice cream, and hers was marked the best.
"Woooaaaaah! Looks like that hot-ice-cream you made really hit the spot!" Fayje gave Niah a congratulatory slap on the back. "This calls for a celebration!"
Niah blinked and swallowed a laugh. "Already? We're only halfway."
"Might you have something in particular in mind?" Ruha asked.
"Yeahyeahyeah! It won't take long either! Come one! I'll show you! There ain't nothing like the ember toss."
Salpicar mouthed the words to himself, thoughtful, then it clicked. "Oh, the ember toss! I remember going on my last visit. It was such a delight!"
"I wanna see what it is now. Let's all go!" Inima cried.
From there, the two Coatl continued to find new things for the party to look at. While Fayje was whipping out the sparklers (and attempting to avoid drawing attention to the fact he was buying far more than he'd brought). Niah's rosy lake cormorant, Naski, nudged her, pointed her beak at the Coatl, cocked her head and opened her beak with her short food-request call, quick to be repeated.
"Go on, Naski wants me to find her something."
"Oooh, right! If you find some nice things for the famfriends at home let me know!" Inima responded.
Fionne watched her sister go, and turned, her charoite burrower swivelling their head to continue to observe.
While shopping for Naski was part of what they were up to, they were more interested in selecting fish for the evening's supper. Naski led the way in examining the day's catches, letting the Tundra which had her approval, and disapproval. Although it was ostensibly for the dragons' meal, she knew full well that any leftovers would be up for grabs. The cormorant slyly encouraged Niah to purchase just a tad more fish than was needed.
"Good eye on your cormorant there, eh?" The one-eyed Ridgeback fisherman commented. "Shopping for dinner, luv?"
Niah nodded.
"Well, if you want my advice for what the best thing you can do with this fish is..."
"Surprise sushi!" Inima cried when she saw what had been prepared for the Coatl.
Fayje quickly began wolfing down as many portions as he could, pausing with his mouth full to say, "it's been some time since I've 'ad dis!"
"Glad you approve." Niah responded with a smile.
Naski stretched her neck out in anticipation. Fionne's familiar hooted with disapproval.
Fionne was happy to see her sister getting along with the others and enjoying the festival. Her continued attempts to have a conversation of any length with her sister herself were met with polite succinctness at best, and the old silence at worst.
