Biography

Genba and his twin-brother Hogen hatched during light’s holiday when the hatchery was filled with dragons among them their two younger brothers. Genba and Hougen were like mirror images of each other, only differences between the two were the saturation of their colors and shade of their eyes. On the other hand their little brothers felt like mistakes when compared to the older two; Sulevi was one-horned male while Ooze wasn’t even a pearlcatcher, he was a clumsy bogsneak with an ugly grey veins. Even if one ignored their looks the two younger ones were still lacking important qualities and gave up easily if either Genba or Hougen demanded something from them, then again they probably just mimicked their caretaker Kaamos who likewise gave up when against the twins. If someone fought against the two it was Rigel, and his nocturne friend Starfall, but the little shattered serpent was no match against the bigger dragons.

Genba believed that if a weak one could not protect what was presumably theirs then they should give it to a stronger one. No one else, besides Hougen, shared that ideology and the twins stepped out of the hatchery together while the others stayed far away from them. Having such a close bond the two decided to do everything together, no matter what that was, and while they looked for ways to spent their adult years they explored the lair. During that they learned of the older residents; who they were, what they did and how they had gotten to the clan. As they learned all that stuff they learned of a poet Richard who had a bounty on his head. The poet kept low profile but Hougen thought he was still a massive security risk to the clan and Genba agreed. They should get rid of him and having heard they needed money to get anything the twins decided to sell the old spiral to Pahatar. That way they would fix the security risk and get the money they needed easily. They just needed to figure out how to reach the poet.

Like most of clan’s artists Richard lived in temple’s creative facilities but due to the bounty accessing his office was made needlessly difficult. Genba and Hougen knew how to access it, they were residents after all, but they had to be careful. Getting to the spiral and capturing him would be difficult and so would be leaving the office, and Richard’s two pets didn’t make things any easier. To add to that the clan would most likely not be happy to lose the old noodle considering he had been kept in the clan for that long. The positive side to all of that was that they didn’t need to get the pets and Richard didn’t need to be delivered alive either. Genba and Hougen just needed to sneak in and take down the three in the office with as much force as they needed to use. There was no need to be careful.

The plan was simple and it being still early afternoon it was the perfect time to act it out. The clan was still asleep. At least it was supposed to be but rustling nearby proved otherwise. The twins turned to see what had spotted them and saw Ooze hiding nearby. He had clearly heard twins’ plan and attempted to go warn the clan. Genba though did not allow that and he lunged towards his brother’s throat. After a short battle the bogsneak had been silenced for good and the twins hid the body behind some bushes. Once that was done they returned to the lair and marched straight to the temple to catch their prey.

The twins walked through corridors and eventually they reached the door that would lead them to their target. However, Kalani was there blocking their entrance and soon enough their escape routes were likewise blocked. Genba had no idea of how that had happened but they had clearly been caught, maybe they should have hidden the body better. The twins had gotten that far and they decided to try get out of the situation. Hougen attempted to take the mirror warrior in front of them as hostage while Genba attempted to get past her to the office. The two though were unarmed and the warrior was able to defend herself until Obsidius arrived to press the smaller dragons against the floor. The two were taken to the prison once the leaders arrived and the twins were stuck in crystal statues until their trial was organized.

The twins didn’t need to wait for long until their trial as it was held the following night. Genba admitted he had killed Ooze for eavesdropping while Hougen explained their plan and reasons. The clan was not convinced by those and the twins refused to say they had been wrong because neither believed having done anything wrong. If anything they had tried to do a favor for the clan. The judge came to conclusion that the twins were a threat and so the hornless pearlcatcher hag Karmiini decided to exile them. They were escorted to the southern port where they were forced to fly onwards until the escorts could no longer be seen.

Genba and Hougen were both annoyed by the situation. They were out in the open without a shelter or money. Genba remembered clan’s first lair was somewhere among the thousands peaks of the Crystalspine Reaches and he suggested them to find it. No one lived there and they could claim it as their own. That though gave the twins another idea; the starwood lair. Clan’s second lair was connected to the main lair through a magic gate and the twins could use it to bypass clan’s defenses. Once they were back in the main lair they could retry their original plan to get the money they really needed. That plan was the best the two got and so they flied east towards the magical forest where their destination was clan’s old lair.

The starwood lair was mostly abandoned by the main clan though there were still dragons living in there. Its residents included a wind noodle and Rigel’s mother Dogoda, half-tree Abele and Midnight who was never awake. Dogoda and Abele were both awake when the twins arrived to the lair and Genba didn’t hesitate to take down the wind spiral. The twins were ruthless when they grounded the two grannies “standing in guard” and once they were taken care of the twins went to open the gate. It was protected by a lock that demanded a right answer to a random question but since the twins were ex-members they knew all the possible answers. With the gate opened the twins stepped into the main lair to try their plan again. Things should go smoothly as it was around midday and very few were awake during that time.

The twins easily avoided the handful of diurnal dragons that ran the clan while the majority slept. They were approaching the temple without hiccups but then they ended up encountering Rigel. The shattered serpent looked a little tired and Hougen decided to ask why he was looking so blue. The spiral told that his younger brother Dustin had died recently and Hougen started laughing loudly Genba joining him almost immediately. Dustin was such a timid dragon that it should have been impossible for him to get himself killed yet he had somehow managed to do so. Rigel didn’t react well to twins’ fun and he pulled out his sword. What followed was a short and very one-sided battle.

Rigel was clearly a novice when it came to using a sword and neither pearlcatcher was particularly worried of being hurt by the spiral. Rigel though made a lot of noise that ended up waking up the clan. The sleepy residents were fast to spot the twins and they attempted to leave before they were caught again. Sadly Obsidius was faster and he was able to catch the two pearlcatchers. He lifted the two dragons up and flied them all the way to the shadow domain where he dropped them just above all the brambles.

Genba and Hougen were able to balance themselves before they hit the ground. They were very annoyed by the turn of the events and they decided to try one more time. They had gotten so close twice by then but they had always gotten unlucky. The two marched through shadow and plague domain back to the Isles and there to the old lair where they noticed a clan had placed a guard in there. At first the obelisk looked unfamiliar to the twins but they soon realized that was Starfall who had changed his breed, there was no mistaking those genes and colors. The twins had been able to overpower the older and smaller dragons in the lair but the obelisk was bigger than them and could block their entrance all by himself. Hougen spelled it out loud; they would not get to the main lair without problems.

With that plan ruined the twins decided to travel to the wind domain. While they had made their way across shadow and plague domains they had taken what they needed and could from travelers they had encountered. With the wind domain being the hotspot of Sornieth trade and travels there should be even more opportunities to get what the two needed any given time. During the weeks that followed the twins got better with ambushing their targets but at the same time they started to notice some weaknesses in their breed, the breed they had been quite proud of until then. They were medium sized breed which meant they could overpower smaller breeds and beastclans but there were a lot breeds they just could not touch because they were bigger. Then there was the pearl that kept getting in the way until Hougen lost his to the deep waters from where the two were unable to get it back. That got the two thinking of a breed change like Starfall had done and the two decided to do just that.

The twins were able to steal some skydancer scrolls from an unlucky merchant but those were not the scrolls the two wanted. They had been overpowered by a guardian too many times and so they wanted to become one themselves. They were able to trade the scrolls to cheaper ones and after they had gotten themselves bigger bodies Hougen asked if the two should go even further with changes. They were near identical bandits, only their names were clearly different. Hougen asked if they should change their names to distance themselves from their hatching clan and to confuse their potential victims. Genba thought Hougen’s idea was great and the two changed their names to “Bede” and “Pete”. From here on out the outsiders would know them by those names, the only one who was allowed to call Bede by his original name was Pete, his guardian and charge.

Traits

Bede is mainly black muscular arcane guardian whose body is decorated by bright purple patches while his wings are decorated by bright pink arch like markings. On his back all the way from forehead to the tip of the tail he has light grey spines and on the sides of the neck he has similar spines growing. As a relic from his pearlcatcher past the spine on the forehead is clearly longer than the other spines. His black beard is of medium length and is usually allowed to hang freely though at times he ties its tips with a black string. His horns are relatively short and turn sharply downwards near the tip. His eyes are slightly darker than usual.

Bede and Pete have agreed to wear identical outfits and they have found themselves sets that are matching while also being light and somewhat protective. Bede wears muted purple cape, wing cover, hat, boots and gloves and on his face he has a birdskull used to hide his identity from others. The hat is decorated with a black feather while the skull is decorated by purple feathers and on his tail he has a twist of same color. On his hip he carries a brown crossbow, his main ranged weapon, and on his right wing he has a brown bandolier holding throwing knives. They are used if crossbow is too slow. Bede has no melee weapons as he deems them unneeded due to his natural size.

Bede is an impulsive dragon and such he often speaks without really thinking. He rarely feels sorry for what he may have said and his arrogance and cruelty are very easily heard from his voice. He is not the most considerate or polite speakers and it is not unheard of him to call others with derogatory terms. In fact he uses them quite a lot. He has a strong Japanese accent.

Bede is a cruel, arrogant and selfish dragon who believes in right of the strong. If one can’t defend what is supposedly theirs then they should not have it. He also generally doesn’t like weaknesses and if he considers someone to be one he deems it justified to get rid of them any means necessary. Bede doesn’t deal with in-betweens, something either is or isn’t no matter what the situation or topic is. He is impulsive and prone to using violence. He feels like his size and natural strength are all he needs and he rarely bothers with analyzing situations. If there is need for more strategic approach, he happily follows his brother’s lead.

Bede is somewhat social dragon but he is not compassionate, friendly or polite. In fact he is quite rude, even cruel, to others and his enjoyment of social situations stems from sense of dominating others. He sees others as nothing more than stains on the world or as tools to be used or played with. He loves seeing others humiliated and tortured and that goes double to those he doesn’t like. The only one towards who he feels any kind of admiration is his twin brother, charge and guardian Pete who he happily follows even to the edge of the universe. Bede knows his brother is smarter than him and often follows his lead no matter what the situation is. He though is no stranger to making his own decisions at times.

Bede sees pets pointless nor does he see point in having a weakling accompanying him all the time. His brother and charge is the only company he needs and he is happy with that.

Small pile of pink petals.

Bede considers magic as tool for the weak and has not learned any spells. Instead of magic he relies on his physical strength and skills. He is a powerful fighter his favorite methods of dealing his enemies being crushing them under his weight and smalling to the ground. If dealing with cowards known as ranged attackers, he has his crossbow for damage and throwing knives for fast attacks and he is decently accurate with both of them. Along with being a good battler Bede is also quite skilled swimmer and diver for someone who is not a water dragon.
