Biography

Hogen and his twin-brother Genba hatched during light’s holiday when the hatchery was filled with dragons among them their two younger brothers. Where Hougen and Genda looked a lot like each other, apart from their eye shade and saturation of their colors, their younger siblings were nothing like them; Sulevi was one-horned male while Ooze wasn’t even a pearlcatcher. The younger ones also had weaker nature and gave up easily when either twin demanded something from them, and so did their caretaker Kaamos. Rigel, and as a reflection his mimic friend Stafall, argued that what the twins did was wrong but being bigger Hougen nor Genba cared what the little shattered serpent had to say. If the two had no power to keep what was presumably theirs then they could as well give it to someone stronger.

No one else shared Hougen’s view in the hatchery apart from Genba and once it was time to leave the two did so together. Being both visually and mentally similar the twins had a strong bond between them and whatever they decided to do with their life, they decided do so together. After stepping into the adult world the twins explored the lair and got to know the residents. As they did so they learned that they needed money if they wanted something nice and they heard that Richard, a poet, had a bounty on his head. He kept low profile but the fact that he was in the lair looked like a massive security risk for the clan. Pahatar paid some good money for the old spiral and the twins wondered if they should sell the poet to her. They would rid the clan of its weak link and they would get a lot of money from that. Both Hougen and Genba thought about the same thing and they decided to plan how to get the spiral without the clan noticing. If they had kept the weakling in the lair that long, they most likely wouldn’t be happy to lose him.

As an artist Richard lived in temple’s creative facilities but because of the bounty accessing his office was made harder than what it was with other artsy residents. Hougen and Genba knew how to access the office but where entering was difficult so was exiting and the twins had to plan their moves carefully. They also had to figure out how to actually capture the spiral and what to do with his pets which he had two one of which was a violin mimic. The pets were worthless as far as the twins were concerned and even Richard didn’t need to be delivered alive and so the twins decided to sneak in and use as much force as needed. They didn’t need to be that careful after all.

The twins had figured out their plan and it being very early afternoon they decided to act as soon as possible. The clan was asleep still. At least it should have been but rustling nearby caught twins’ attention and they were able to spot Ooze hiding like he had always done. His eyes told he had heard what the twins had talked about and he turned around to presumably warn the clan. Genba was not having any of that and lunged towards his little brother Hougen following suit. After the bogsneak had been silenced for good the twins dragged the body behind some bushes and left it there. Once that was taken care of they returned to the lair and went straight to the temple. They had prize to catch.

The twins walked past the corridors that eventually led to the entrance of Richard’s room. They got quite close but the entrance was blocked by Kalani once they reached it. The mirror warrior was clearly waiting for the two and soon enough more dragons arrived to the corridor. Realizing they were caught, though it was unclear how, Hougen attempted to take Kalani as hostage to get out of the situation while Genba tried to force himself past the red dragon. That ended up not helping the twins and soon enough Obsidius was holding the two pearlcatchers against the floor with other bigger and smaller dragons towering over them. Once the leaders arrived the twins were taken to clan’s prison and put into crystal until the trial was to be held.

The trial against the twins was held the next night. Genba admitted they had killed Ooze for eavesdropping and Hougen explained what they had planned to do and why. Perhaps they could make the clan see the mistake they made by keeping the poet in the clan. That did not work and the twins refused to admit they were wrong for wanting to get rid of the old spiral, because they were not wrong, and so Karmiini, a hornless old pearlcatcher hag, decided the two should leave the clan for good. The twins were escorted through the wood all the way to the southern port where they were forced to fly onward. The twins did that and flied among the crystal peaks until the escorts were no longer visible.

Hougen was annoyed by the situation they were in. They were out in the open without shelter or money. Genba was likewise annoyed and mentioned they should probably find clan’s first lair among the thousands of peaks. Mentioning the old lair gave the two the same idea; the starwood lair. There was a gate that connected it to the main lair and the twins could use it to get past clan’s defense sectors. Once they made it through they could see their original plan through and get some money that way as now they really needed it. With that figured out the two flied towards the Starwood Strand in the east and prepared for some opposition in the old lair.

Clan’s starwood lair was mostly abandoned by the main clan. The lairs were connected and there were dragons living in the old lair but it was not even a shadow of what the main lair was. Its only residents were Dogoda the wind noodle and mother of Rigel, half-tree Abele and Midnight who was always asleep. Dogoda and Abele were both awake by the time the twins arrived to the lair despite it being around midday. The ladies knew who the two were and attempted to stop them. That was short-lived attempt and the twins grounded the grannies easily while Midnight did nothing to help, as expected. After the “guards” were taken care of the twins went to the portal connecting the lairs. It was protected by a lock that asked random questions only the residents could answer. Hougen and Genba were ex-residents and knew the answers to all of the possible questions and so they got through without problems.

Most of the clan was asleep during that time of day and the twins had easy time approaching the temple. The few diurnal dragons were nowhere near the big building. Sadly for them they ended up encountering Rigel on their way. The little winged shattered serpent looked tired and Hougen asked what had gotten the spiral that down. The spiral told that Dustin, his brother, had died recently and Hougen could not help but laugh. Dustin had always been such a coward that it was a miracle he had gotten himself killed. Rigel didn’t react to that kindly and he drew his sword to battle the twins.

Little noodle barely knew how to use that stick of his and the twins felt like they were not in any kind of danger. The serpent though made a lot of noise and soon enough the clan had woken up earlier than usual. The residents were fast to spot the two ex-members and they attempted to leave before they were crystallized again. Obsidius though was able to catch the two and he physically carried the pearlcatchers all the way to shadow domain where he dropped the younger dragons to land themselves.

Hougen and Genba were able to balance themselves before they hit the ground. The twins were annoyed by the turn of events and they decided to try one more time. They had been able to get to the lair without troubles, they had just gotten unlucky with the little encounter. The two marched through the shadow and plague domains back to the Starwood and to the old lair where they noticed a fourth dragon sitting on guard, no doubt Starfall. The nocturne had turned himself into an obelisk but his colors were still easy to recognize. The obelisk made getting through difficult and the twins decided to abort their mission. They had to figure out something else.

The twins made their way to the wind domain. During their travel through the Wood and the Wasteland they had taken what they could from travelers they had outmatched and with the Plateau being the hotspot of trades it was the perfect place to get some items. During the following weeks the twins got better with ambushing their targets and while they were proud of their breed they started to notice some glaring weaknesses. They were of medium size which meant they could overpower smaller breeds and even beastclans but they could not touch bigger breeds. To add to that the pearl got in the way too often, and eventually Hougen’s fell into the sea from where the twins could not get it back. That got the two thinking of a breed change, just like Starfall had seemingly done, and they decided to go through with that.

The two were able to steal some scrolls from a travelling merchant but those were skydancer scrolls. With having been overpowered by a guardian so many times the two wanted to become one and they managed to trade the scrolls to right ones. With the breed changed Hougen started to feel more at easy as the pearl no longer bothered him and he asked Genba if they should go beyond than just breed change. They were near identical bandits, only thing that was not similar was their name. He suggested they changed them to distance themselves from the clan that had kicked them out and to confuse their potential targets. Genba agreed with Hougen’s reasoning and the two changed their names to “Pete” and “Bede”. Going forwards the outsiders would know them by those names. The only one that was allowed to use the original name of Pete was Bede, his guardian and charge.

Traits

Pete is mainly black muscular arcane guardian whose body is decorated by muted purple patches while his wings are decorated by dark pink arch like markings. On his back all the way from forehead to the tip of the tail he has light grey spines and on the sides of the neck he has similar spines growing. As a relic from his pearlcatcher past the spine on the forehead is clearly longer than the other spines. His black beard is of medium length and is usually allowed to hang freely. Pete is a bandit and as such he at times ends up in battles. Because of that both of his horns are missing their tips with right one being slightly shorter than the left. His eyes are slightly darker than usual.

Pete and Bede have agreed to wear identical outfits and they have found themselves sets that are matching while also being light and somewhat protective. Pete wears greyish dark blue cape, wing cover, hat, boots and gloves and on his face he has a birdskull used to hide his identity from others. The hat and the skull are decorated by turquoise feathers and on his tail he has a twist of same color. On his hip he carries a black crossbow, his main ranged weapon, and on his right wing he has a black bandolier holding dark throwing knives. They are used if crossbow is too slow. Pete has no melee weapons as he deems them unneeded due to his natural size.

Pete knows his way when it comes to words and he can be very charismatic speaker if he wants to. However, his arrogance and cruelty often seep from his deep voice either accidentally or on purpose. He is not the most considerate or polite speakers and it is not unheard of him to call others with derogatory terms. He has a strong Japanese accent.

Pete is a cruel, arrogant and selfish dragon who believes in right of the strong. If one can’t defend what is supposedly theirs then they should not have it. He also generally doesn’t like weaknesses and if he considers someone to be one he deems it justified to get rid of them any means necessary. Pete doesn’t deal with in-betweens, something either is or isn’t no matter what the situation or topic is. Though cruel and prone to using violence he is also quite smart and strategic and if force won’t do then he will happily use his intellect. At time he might even consider trickery to be more effective than brute strength and he loves the feeling when he managed to make someone else dance in the tune of his own flute so to speak. It gives him sense of being in power and he quite likes it.

Pete is somewhat social dragon but he is not compassionate, friendly or polite. In fact he is quite rude, even cruel, to others and his enjoyment of social situations stems from sense of dominating others. He sees others as nothing more than stains on the world or as tools to be used or played with. He loves seeing others tricked, humiliated or even tortured and that goes double to those he doesn’t like. The only one towards who he feels any kind of care or compassion is his twin brother, charge and guardian Bede who he would defend till his last breath. If anyone was to hurt him, Pete would make them regret having ever hatched or born.

Pete sees pets pointless nor does he see point in having a weakling accompanying him all the time. His brother and charge is the only company he needs and he is happy with that.

Small pile of pink petals.

Pete considers magic as tool for the weak and has not learned any spells. Instead of magic he relies on his physical strength and skills. He is a powerful and skilled fighter and being quite strategic he knows how to keep combat situations on his favor. If dealing with cowards known as ranged attackers, he has his crossbow for damage and throwing knives for fast attacks and he is decently accurate with both of them. Along with being a good battler Pete is also quite skilled swimmer and diver for someone who is not a water dragon.
