Biography

Sleight and his two brother hatched during light’s holiday along with three other nests and the hatchery was full of dragons. Sleight was the youngest out of his litter and as a spiral he was among the smallest hatchlings. In Hougen and Genba’s eyes that made him inferior, a pet to bigger dragons, but Sleight himself saw himself superior to others. He was small and dark colored meaning he could hide in shadows without being noticed and he could then use what he saw to blackmail others. Hatchery though was a bad place to find anything worth using and Sleight mostly spent his time hiding from the two mean pearlcatcher twins.

After being allowed to leave the hatchery the hatchlings fast scattered to find something to do among them Sleight. He learned to find the best hiding spots around the lair and after that it was time to spy on others. He though had to avoid the Gossip Queen Witchi and her pet as they too used a lot of the same hides Sleight was able to find and they would eagerly uncover his actions to the leaders if they managed to catch him. Sleight though was confidents that he could avoid the old fae, she was old after all and he was still young and fast and he had better camouflage than the laced elder.

Sleight was especially curious of what his coevals were up to and kept a close eye on them. Hougen and Genba attempted to kidnap Richard for some easy money but sadly they were caught and exiled before Sleight managed to get anything from them. In the meantime Dustin, Sleight’s older brother, visited their father’s office and he took a necklace from there. Sleight didn’t know how Lief would react to the theft and neither did Dustin, by the looks of it. The older spiral seemed to assume no one had seen him take the necklace and Sleight decided to prove him wrong.

Sleight visited Dustin while he was in his nest and casually mentioned having seen him take their father’s necklace. Dustin freaked out by that and begged Sleight to not tell anyone. Sleight told that thefts should always be reported and Dustin proceed to ask what his little brother wanted for his silence. Sleight had not thought that far yet but he didn’t want his brother to notice that. He asked him to bring the first thing he could think of and that was a moth foal, a local oddity that was like a mix between a moth and a pony. They were timid and rarely seen and Sleight kind of wanted to taste one. Such a rare magical creature could be very delicious, especially for someone who ate both insects and meat. Dustin was not sure if he could get Sleight what he wanted but he promised to try once Sleight asked if he rather had his secret revealed. Dustin left his nest to catch the creature and Sleight decided to take the stolen necklace for himself.

Dustin took his time to get back, so long in fact that the clan realized him to be missing and sent dragons to look for him. Sleight followed the events from afar and hoped Dustin would not mention him to dragons who were to find him. Hours passed by and eventually Sleight spotted Rigel, his oldest brother, and Tahna arrive from the wood with Dustin. The middle brother did not move and after Sleight flied closer to see what the exact situation was he noticed that he wasn’t even alive. The residents were asking each other why Dustin had been in the wood in the first place and Sleight hoped no one had seen him be the last dragon to interact with Dustin. Even if he could make up a convincing story some would not believe it and there were ways to dig up truth, ways that Sleight could not counter.

No one had seen Sleight with Dustin, at least no one mentioned having seen them together, and no one came to ask Sleight anything. Sleight had sent Dustin to the wood but he did not feel responsible for his brother’s death, he himself had caused that. Rigel though looked like he would most certainly blame Sleight if he found out and as such he was relieved to be on clear, at least for now. Puolanka though was looking into the incident and Sleight was worried the investigator would eventually figure out what had happened. He thought he should mess with his research to make sure that did not happen but at the same time he didn’t want to get his hand dirty. He had to find someone else to do the dirty work for him.

Sleight kept an eye on his clan mates trying to find someone to blackmail. He eventually saw Crane drag his brother Orion to meet their another brother Crem. While Crane and Orion were close they were not that close with Crem and Sleight got curious of what they wanted with their more practical brother. The skydancers asked the starter cartographer for a map of the wood and after getting it the two waited till morning before they started to make their way towards the western wood. It was weird that they waited till daytime because they were both very much nocturnal, like vast majority of the clan, and Sleight got curious. He had a feeling the two were about to do something unaccepted and he could use that to blackmail the two magically more gifted dragons to clean Puolanka’s research.

As Sleight followed the brothers he heard them talk about Sarvva and “the summoners” and he got excited. The summoners referred to Shadow and Sapny, two mages that had attempted to summon the Shade ages ago and now lived in exile in ruins of Sarvva, rumored hatching home of clan’s founder Nemo. It was illegal for residents to interact with the two and the skydancer brothers would be in serious trouble if they were caught, and that was all Sleight needed. He followed the two for some time to get as much information as he could but turned around before they reached the destination. The summoners could catch him and he did not want that.

Sleight made his way back home by flying through everything that could keep him hidden, mainly some wild bushes. It was daytime and during that time his naturally dark colors were anything but helpful. He had probably reached halfway point when he suddenly heard his mother Dogoda call for him. She was a diurnal dragon but she didn’t live in the main lair and Sleight was confused by hearing her voice in the Dream Wood. She sounded like she needed help and he decided to go see what was wrong. Where he did not really care about his brothers, or dad who was a workaholic, he did care about his mother and didn’t want to hear her be troubled. He followed the voice through the wood until his mind started to warp and he no longer processed what he was doing or why.

Sleight’s body and mind were feeling funny when he was finally able to make any sense of anything. He had feathers growing from his wings and tail and he had gotten himself a mane. An old spirit in front of him asked who had called for him and Sleight realized he had been tricked by a wood whisper, a local alien fauna or flora that wrapped minds and bodies of its victims. He looked at the spirit and answered it was none of her business. His tone was rather offensive, he was not in mood to be polite and he did not need to feel need to be nice to the old spirit. She was already dead and looked like a mere wind could break her apart. The spirit sounded emotionless as she corrected Sleight that she was Marie, not a “hag”. Sleight dismissed the notation and asked what way was the clan. Marie asked if he was going thank her for saving him from the alien creature and he said no. Why would he, she was dead. Sleight was certain he had figured out a right direction and attempted to fly there when Marie called him a disrespectful creature. Sleight turned to throw that right back at her but before he could say anything the spirit cut his throat open and left there to die.

Sound of a lyre called Sleight back to the world of the living and he just about heard his mother’s voice. He had hard time understanding anything, it was like he was half-asleep. He was able to smell candles which indicated he was in clan’s sanctuary where candles were plentiful. He heard his mother say something but he was unable to make out what and he had trouble asking her anything, in fact he had trouble speaking altogether. Sleight was just about able to see his mother leave the sanctuary and feeling lost he attempted to follow her. He wanted to know what had happened, he was feeling cold, hungry and scared, he wanted to be comforted. He had reached the door of the sanctuary when he heard Kupari shout something behind him and after he stepped out Lifeblood’s unicorn attacked him injuring his eyes.

Sleight was brought to what he assumed to be the healing offices but the unicorn kept attacking him and the healers decided to take him outside the lair. That stopped the assault but it did not help Sleight. He was feeling cold, he was hungry, he was blinded and had no idea of where he was or what was around him. Few creatures came to see him but he could not be sure if they were dragons or beastclans, if they were a threat or a friend and feeling scared he attacked them. Only one he was able to recognize in his confused state was his mother who came to treat his eyes. She covered them and promised that everything would be alright. After that she left despite of Sleight’s silent screams. He was left alone in the wood without sight, shelter or food. He was left there to wander alone and being unable to tell friend from foe he attacked everything that was not his mother. He did not know what else to do, he did not understand what others spoke to him.

Traits

Sleight is a dark arcane spiral. His main body is dark grey and has viper pattern while his wings are mainly black and have muted purple arc-like markings. After coming in contact with a wood whisper all of his six wings grew black feathers most of which are on the underside and his tail also has black feathers growing from it. The encounter also caused him to grow black and long mane that reaches from the top of the head all the way to the halfway of his back. Sleight has no way of taking care of the mane and it is quite messy. He is undead and the cause of his death can be seen on his throat as a pale scar-markings. With the organs on the neck being partly damaged his face is pale due to decreased amount of oxygen. Being blind he is prone to slamming into things and his horns, while still intact, are heavily cracked. His sclera turned black after being revived but that is hard to see due to the eyes being damaged by a unicorn horn. Due to the injury the eyes are mostly kept closed.

Sleight doesn’t wear much as he was undressed as preparation to his funeral. Only piece of apparel that was left on was a dark necklace with dark blue gem which was taken from his brother. His body was covered by black candles and they have remained on his back long after he was brought back to life. The spell that revived him turned the flames blue and it has seemingly stopped the flames from eating away the candles. The flames and the candle wax are both cold. Sleight’s injured eyes are covered by muted purple cover and he carries two magical knives with him, both of which were gifted to him by his mother. The knives are connected to shadows across Sleight’s body, especially the ones under his wings, and he uses them to defend and feed himself. Them being connected to his shadows means he doesn’t need to worry about dropping or losing them no matter what. They always return to him.

Sleight used to have dark and rather deep voice with decent amount of charisma. However, the strike to his throat that killed him damaged his vocal cords and he has had difficulties speaking ever since. His voice is a mere whisper and if he says something it is usually just a word or two. He used to have smooth Slovak accent.

When Sleight was alive, he was rather selfish and manipulative dragon, to some extent also lazy. He wanted to do bare minimum himself and often tried to blackmail others to do things for him. He was patient and was able to spend a lot of time observing others looking for things to use for blackmail. After coming in contact with the wood whisper, dying and being revived he has been one confused dragon. Mix of wood whisper’s influence and rebirth have caused him great difficulties in telling what is happening around him, where he is or what he is supposed to do and none of that is helped by his lack of sight and weak senses. That causes him to be scared all the time and that is reflected in his aggressive behavior. He treats everything as thread and as such he attacks almost everyone without hesitation. He can’t tell prey from not-prey and being always hungry he can be quite dangerous to encounter. He though would not cause harm to a friend if he could tell them apart from a foe.

Sleight was not the most compassionate dragon. In fact he saw others more or less as something to use to make his dirty work and he did not feel sorry for blackmailing them to do his bidding. He also did not care if they got into trouble while doing his tasks. Only one who he didn’t want to use or hurt in any way was his mother and she has remained as the only dragon he can recognize after death. She is his source of comfort and he would not let anyone hurt her. He can’t recognize others and sees everyone else as thread to himself. Being afraid of others he is fast attack them if they happen to cross his bath. After the encounter he usually flees if he is able to do so without problems.

Sleight never got himself a companion because he was afraid they would stab him into back and report him to clan’s leaders. He hasn’t gotten any companions after death either.

When Sleight was alive, he knew handful of spells. He knew how to levitate items and change their sizes and he knew a spell that allowed him to pass trough holes that were too small for him normally. After death he lost his ability to cast spells though he has learned to control magical throwing knives with his confused mind. He can’t do much with the knives, mostly just throw them to one direction. Due to his weak senses his aim is not good. After being thrown the knives return to him automatically because they are drawn to his shadow. Sleight would not be able to retrieve his knives if they didn’t do that.

After being brought back to life Sleight lost his sight when a unicorn attacked his eyes with its horn. Because of that he is blind but unlike other blind creatures his other senses have not been able to adapt to the missing sense because of his undead status. Because of that his other sense are not at all better than they would be on a normal dragon with normal sight. In fact, they are slightly worse due to his difficulty processing his sensory inputs. The undead state has also messed with other aspects as well. Sleight is unable to sleep and while he feels hunger and eats he is incapable of actually processing the food. It just goes through him without doing anything.
