Raised by his Barghest mother, Aric spent his days hunting down those who "deserved" death. He felt strongest on the nights when the moon was at it's fullest. At first this was because of his mother always bringing food then, but later he became attuned to the wild energy that seemed to overcome him in the light of the moon. A frenzy of primal energy that made him feel powerful, bestial. He became a hunter, a stalker, a death-dealer.

One evening he came across an aged Imperial that he sensed was very old and powerful. She looked into his eyes as if judging his very essence. After a long moment, she told him that his magical heritages from both sides had put him into an interesting position; he was a dragon of many destinies. Which would he choose?

Would he remain a hunter of the ones he had been preying upon, or would he take a new path? She told him of his Witchborne heritage and how there were dragons that shared his blood that used their abilities to hunt down those who would feast upon hatchlings. Surely they "deserved" death, no?

This crone taught Aric about how to track his new prey, the child-eaters. Yes, assuredly they deserved death. They were ghouls that extinguished lives that had not yet lived long enough to meet their purpose. He tracked them in their dreams, pulling them onto the paths of dreamlands where he could sever their spirits from their bodies and feast upon their shattered minds.

On a night approaching the full moon, he crossed paths with an Imperial female he would learn is called Evensong. She caught him unaware - in fact, he didn't know quite how long she'd been watching him before he noticed. This left him feeling a bit anxious, but also strangely...intrigued? She was clearly skilled, both in stealth and magic. He could tell that she was powerful by how well she had hidden her presence and by the dark glint in her eyes that watched him like he was prey. However, he wouldn't go down without a fight.

Yet a fight was not what she was after - though she also wasn't put off by a challenge, as she proved when he lunged at her. The two of them exchanged magical attacks and physical blows for a few minutes before separating and eyeing each other thoughtfully. She explained that she was looking for a capable mate and that he met her standards. He felt flattered that a powerful being such as herself thought him worthy. And did he not wish for children of his own? So the two Imperials agreed to nest a clutch together and to raise their indubitably gifted offspring to be powerful forces to be reckoned with.

By killing that dragon, they had given the powerful being enough of a foothold to start affecting the world of Sornieth on a small scale. But they had only completed the first step of many. In order to have more power, they would need to complete more tasks given to them. However, That was a problem. There were too many things to do on their own in just their lifetime… They spoke at-length with the Being, and decidedly entered a contract of grand proportions. For each child of theirs that completes a requested task, they shall be given power, and so shall the parents gain power too.
