Her face beaming with pride, Nirya strutted into the arena with her team following behind her.

"It all looks the same! It's all the same!"

She was so excited to be back again this year, though she was a bit worried about whether her new teammates would share the same enthusiasm - and skill - that her team last year did. Nirya felt a pang of sadness when she thought of them; Tallulah was now living in the Reedcleft Ascent, while Aoibhinn and Antares had chosen to serve their deities. That sadness quickly went away, however, when she was snapped back to reality by the whoops and cheers of her new team.

Spectre was chosen for his impeccable attention to detail (as well as his extensive knowledge of this arctic tundra, for exploring after the event!),

Safira was selected for her speed and exceptional balance,

And Alto, for his steadiness on his feet and amazing team spirit.

Yes, Nirya felt very confident in her team's chances to take home a medal again this year.

That team, led by the Clan’s only female Wildclaw, had been made up of dragons who had had at least some understanding of how the game was played, and a fierce desire to win it. This one, on the other hand…well, it couldn’t be said that they didn’t have a fierce desire to win something, but with a Center Forward whose favorite hobby was charging at windmills, a Goaltender who was interested in finding the most improbable way to save a goal, two Defenders who were far more comfortable in the Coli’s Sandswept Delta then on any kind of ice, and two Forwards who were absolutely convinced that they and they alone knew the best way to win anything, it was debatable whether winning hockey was actually in their agenda…. This was the absolute last time she was taking any advice from anyone on how to organize a team. The idea of using “Fire, Tooth, Claw” to determine who should play might have worked out several years ago, but Loo seriously doubted that it would be so helpful this year. The group following her was the worst set of bumblers she had ever lain eyes on, and considering some of the dragons she had met in her Clan since her birth a few moonturns ago, that was saying something. Even as the thought crossed her mind, a loud CRASH! from behind caused the young Guardian to stop cold. Turning in dread, Loo saw her Center Forward, DonQuixote, extracting himself from a now collapsed tent--courtesy of the damaged tent pole underneath him--waving his sword and roaring about Beastclan traitors. Rather than putting a stop to this idiotic behavior, the team’s two Defending Mirrors had dropped into a guard position, looking for all the world as if they thought that a beast was actually about to attack the team—at least until a dragon noticed the amused glint in the mated pair’s eyes. Lughnasadh could not see the other two team members at all, but a very familiar wild laugh emanating from the tent fabric told her that Goaltender Beeblebrox, at least, was still present and conscious. Whether Duskfire, the only other sensible dragon on the team other than herself, was as well still remained to be seen. Then, to Loo’s mounting horror, Enigma shifted slightly, and a seriously bent sign came into view, declaring the completely destroyed tent to be a game tent for winning new familiars—which explained the indignant roars, squawks, and splashing emanating from the remains of that same tent. Closing her eyes in resignation, Loo met the arctic glare of the Tundra running the tent, then moved forward to sort out this mess, and gather up her “team” in time for the game they were supposed to be playing. As she wrested Qui’s sword away from him, Loo wondered where had he gotten such a thing in the first place? The whole Clan knew that the odds of Qui not getting in trouble with a sword in hand were astronomical…oh, of course. That explained Beeb’s wild laughter. Lughnasadh glared at the Ridgeback, promising dire retribution later, and then turned to the irate Vendor. Swallowing, she assured him that that no, the Wildclaw hadn’t really meant to attack the familiars--he had just tripped, sir, it could happen to anyone, you know--and yes, absolutely, of course the team would pay for everything, in fact, they would pay double, and no this wasn’t a real sword, see, it wasn’t even sharp… With a heartfelt sigh, Lughnasadh found herself wondering if the last Captain of her Clan’s Ice Hockey team had had nearly as much trouble even before they managed to get on the ice…

@Venusian I'm glad Iris got to play ice hockey :-)

@RubieKanary & @Disillusionist The figure skaters this year are really getting into the theme! Both pairs look great!

@Forestwolf It's nice that Northwind was able to make the trek and revist her homeland.

@SoldierBarnes That's the first I saw the word of the day as a dragon name! Pretty cool.

Hopefully everyone is staying warm out there!

In other news, too many of these dragons look great... I've been eyeing some of the apparel and skins/accents, but am forcing myself to stay OUT of the Auction House and Marketplace.

@JinxMoonstone Aww, thank you so much! I just couldn't resist, given the theme and how different they looked from each other. x3

And HECK YES, that's why I try not to look at other people's dergs during events like these! So many gorgeous dergs and accents...so little space and cash. x'D
@/Katsuokai Welcome back! Fireclaw has quite a lot of competition this year, so we'll see if he can stay on top or perhaps manage to complete the set with a silver. (AKA if RNG loves him as much this year!)
[br] Thank you! Yeah, we'll have to see if he does bring home a medal this year; the competition is fierce and you never know what the RNG might have in store for us. ;) He'd love a Silver medal, but he'd be pleased with the participation medal as well - I've also entered him in the the Cats' Choice Awards so if he does not bring home a grand prize this year I can always say that the cats' daily challenges and shenanigans left him too exhausted to perform to the best of his ability. :P [br] ------ Been a long day, but I'm gonna jot down most of the story so that I can finish it tomorrow. ^^ [br] ------ [columns] [nextcol]Fireclaw - The Victor on Fire You are reading... Today it was a particularly chilly day, with the arctic winds sweeping over The Southern Icefields with unusual force. Even the Games' announcers recommended everyone participating in the events to avoid the Cross-Country Skiing for their own safety. He thought long and hard about which event to join today, and finally the conclusion he reached left both Glacynea and Clarity astonished. He would participate in the Figure Skating event! They couldn't quite believe him, but Glacynea had actually taught him how to do the jumps and stuff like that, but he really wasn't known for his grace. ''Do you even have a routine prepared?'' She replied. True, true... but you know, you've heard the announcers, the weather is terrible today, plus I'm a bit tired from yesterday, so why not just do something for the fun of it? I'm here to have a good time not to win, even though winning would be nice. Well, if you're sure about we'll cheer you on! You've been a great teacher so I'd probably manage to show the judges something they've never seen before! Let's go!!! and off he went. He chose a powerful upbeat track for his routine, and used raw power to do cool jumps and pirouettes. It was a forceful show with a lot of impact! For the scenography he had chosen a Fiery ambiance that seemed to represent the fiery Fire fighting off the bitter cold of the Ice, only to in the end combine them in the same routine as a balanced dance of the both elements thus representing them as two opposite forces, but at the same time showcasing them as being the two sides of the same coin. It was a dance representing a fight followed by unity, a unity that can only be achieved when the respective Elemental powers work together to achieve a peaceful coexistence.
