Quests & Challenges

The Clan had gathered to hear the announcements of the Individual Winners for each Event, and cheered each one, regardless of which Clan they came from. Two announcements in particular held their attention the most this year, however... Her team really had made an extra effort this year, and it had paid off, with an almost flawless performance. Almost. There had been that moment where the stone had gone off course early on, but other than that, they had done well, and had the medal to prove it. Lifting her Bronze Medal into the air, Bombarda waved at the rest of the Clan who had come to watch. This year, Bronze. Next year....well, they would see when it came, but she didn't think that another medal was too much to hope for...[/I] And while the Curling Team celebrated their well-deserved triumph, another dragon had a slightly different reaction to the Luge announcement.... She had just heard her name! Not as a winner, but still....her efforts were being noticed, after all, and hadn't they said that she had almost made it to a Bronze? She had been so certain that this would be the best year yet, and she had been right! And the Judges had noticed, had even mentioned her name, and complimented her... The beautiful Coatl was so overwhelmed, she hardly noticed where she was walking as she left the area. Fortunately, several dragons of the Clan were nearby, having stayed to give their gentle Clanmate support during the announcement, and very quickly guided her back to the Clan's Campsite. Later, as Emerald helped pack, she stopped for a minute to look back at the Games Grounds. She [b]would[/b] be coming back here again next year, she promised herself. She would practice every day and night from now until the opening of next year's Games, and she would be even better than she was now. Qualia's team were the pride of the clan with their silver medal in curling. Qualia spoke to the veterans who took bronze, praising their technique. It being the clan's first time at the games, the lavender-winged Skydancer's knowledge of the sport was limited, and it showed when contesting with the veteran team. She'd had to deal with quite a few surprises, and the team took every opportunity they saw. The final match had been a curious one. The easygoing Tundra of the Earth team they went up against made it a somewhat less tense an experience than expected. In the end, the no-nonsense Shadow Skydancer, named Atka, successfully guided the Earth team to victory, and the outcome was accepted gracefully. Gordu seemed unconcerned by his loss. Shrugging it off like a cold, his mate reminded their young that experiences, whether of victory or defeat, had their value, while Gordu remarked on how friends may be found at occasions such as these. Similarly Cherra hadn't set herself high expectations, and was satisfied with the time she got. The Fae applauded each of the winners over the ceremonies. Suna and Bryn weren't quite so able to shrug off the disappointment, but decided to talk about such things at another time. Their mother was tearfully proud regardless, and there were some wondrous figure skaters to praise. First they spoke to Sakura, the Arcane Coatl garbed in feathers and finery that matched her wings. “I love your jewellery. It looks really nice with your eyes, and your feathers are so shiny!” Suna told the Coatl. “Congratulations. You looked amazing on the ice,” said Bryn. The duo found another Mirror, Ash the Wind dragon, who'd competed in the figure-skating competition. “Your performance was so joyful! I like your cape, maybe we can get some food together later.” Suna suggested. “It's nice to see so many enjoying the games no matter their experience.” Bryn remarked. They spoke to Nexiana the Fae next. “Your wings are amazing!” Suna gazed at Nexiana, awestruck. “There were a lot of strong moments in your routine. It was elegant.” Bryn commented. They called on Miranda the masked dancer next. “What a marvellous mask! Your dance fitted the music really nicely.” “You had excellent balance.” The two Mirrors also spoke to Jinju, who was representing Earth. “What an intense performance! You look really strong.” “I think 'poignant' fits some of your poses.” Last and by no means least, they congratulated Hoshiko. “What impressive jumps! You look lovely.” “Everything was timed perfectly.” It had been an impressive turn-out, all in all, and Bontu was pleased that they'd all been able to share this experience with one another and so many other clans of the sporting event of the year.

As the mirrors complimented Jinju, he retreated into his comfy wings, flustered by their praise. He managed to squeak out the words "thank you," a few times, and even mustered the courage to shake each of their talons in turn. Atka loomed up behind him, her strict face turning to soft approval as she acknowledged the scene.

"Your clan's team did great at curling," she said. "It seemed like they actually knew what they were doing, unlike some dragons." She jabbed a claw over her shoulder at her team, which were still shouting and hugging and tossing their trophy in the air. "I can't believe our luck. It was really close there!" She allowed herself a slight chuckle, which was more of an exhale than anything, while she placed her talon on Jinju's wing. "I saw your figure skating routine as well. It was fantastic, I can tell you both put a lot of work into it! You did too, love," she added, whispering to Jinju, who smiled and retreated into his wings again.

Smilax bounded up. "Hey! I recognise you! You're from the same clan as Qualia! Atka, look, they're from the same clan as Qualia!"

"I noticed."

He grinned widely, and stuck a fluffy paw into his vest pocket. "I wanna give her this, can you pass it to her? Thanks!" he pressed a pouch of honeyed grasshoppers into Brynn's claws. It was sticky on the outside.

I'm here to announce that the numbers have been crunched, and the announcement for overall clan medalists will be ready tomorrow! I just need to proofread tomorrow before I post in the evening. Sorry for the delay... Hopefully it's worth the wait!))

When Atka praised the skill of their curling team and commented on the final match, Suna nodded. “We watched with Ma. She enjoyed writing about it.” “Definitely one of the highlights.” Bryn assented. Suna's tail wriggled with joy at the praise of the pair's routine. “Ah! Thank you!” Bryn inclined his head and uttered a quiet, “thank you.” The coal-scaled Mirror then considered. “We should see the play that inspired it sometime.” “Oh yeah, our coach took us to a performance of the musical number our song's from, but we haven't seen the full thing yet.” “Maybe a future routine will be connected to a later song.” “And continue our skating adventure!” The two greeted the friendly Tundra who approached the group. “You and Atka are on the same curling team!” Suna responded to Smilax's recognition of the Mirror duo. Bryn accepted the offered gift. “Thank you, I'll remember to give it to her.” “Hope to see you again next year!” Suna told the Earth team. Meeting and speaking with such friendly individuals enriched the experience of the games further, and made the days shine that much more.

What is interesting this year is that none of the winners placed in individual events. Without a “super star” to carry the team, all of the dragons had to perform relatively well in their events, placing in the upper third. Consistency was key here! While the overall performance of Ice flight could have been better, the dragons from @Yuubi's Clan were a bright spot. Bufara’s figure skating routine left her audience breathless with her beautiful display of skill. Starnight had a fast speed in the Luge, and Nighthaunt clinched their clan’s bronze medal spot with her cross-country score on the final day of competition.[/size] [/columns] [columns] [url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=7165160][img]http://flightrising.com/rendern/avatars/71652/7165160.png[/img][/url][nextcol][size=4] The crew over at the The Inn in Starwood Strand sent a contingent of dragons who did well enough as a group to earn the silver spot. All newcomers, these dragons really impressed in their Games debut. Canary and Liam were crowd favorites with their innovative figure skating routine depicting the duality of dusk and dawn. Ash and Fennec led their clan to the gold medal with strong performances in figure skating, alpine skiing, and the group events. They made formidable opponents, all the more impressive considering it was their first year competing. Congratulations on your top placement! It’s even more impressive that those flights went from no medals to earning at least one gold each. Arcane continues to bring skilled athletes to the competition, as they earn the top spot in the medal count again this year. Wind dominated the top of the podium, earning Gold in one-third of the events. It was really an honor to compete with so many skilled athletes and we really hope to see you all again next year.” She meant it, too. In the face of so many more experience dragons, she’d hardly expected to win anything. She’d told her clan that having fun was all that mattered. That had certainly been accomplished. Her clan decided to stay in the Southern Icefield for the night to celebrate their victory before making the long journey back to the north. And of course, Gloomwillow and Fireclaw's new familiar the Wisp. The last week had been exhausting, signing up on both The Winter Games and The Cats' Choice Awards was clearly too much, and coupling that with investigating what connection there was between The Icewarden's cats and The Shade had almost not given him enough time to rest. But never mind that, 'cause Fireclaw was always full of stamina and willing to take on any challenge! He had fun an had managed to improve his friendship with Unknown, which was all that mattered. The first category's Award Ceremony went by without the group of friends hearing his name, but in the second, for the Cross-Country Skiing, the announcers called out his name, and made special mention of the fact that it was one of the few events he hadn't placed in last year. The Bronze Medal had been tough to win due to the weather conditions and the fact that he had joined the event on the penultimate day of the Games, but he had a approached the event with a fail-proof mentality: just enjoy the event for what it was instead of focusing on winning. ''It's amazing that you managed to win this event, I though you ought to be much to tired, the weather here is treacherous, seems like a dragon with the spirit of Fire in him can pull off fighting the bitter weather of Icefields. Congratulations, I know you've worked hard for this.'' said Glacynea, smiling gently at him. ''Congratulations indeed, especially considering that you two have been sneaking around the Fortress at night'', remarked Clarity, smiling knowingly at Fireclaw and Unknown. ''Heheh, I have no idea what you're talking about, [i][b]none[/b][/i] whatsoever, right Unknown?!'' he nudged Unknown in the arm, hard, slightly making him stumble to the side. Unknown just shrugged nonchalantly. ''I'm proud of you, bu you really shouldn't overwork yourself like this.'' Clarity said. ''You're the best healer around, so I'll never worry about my leg nor frostbite with you here. Relaaax!'' he smiled. Before Clarity could give him a lighthearted scolding, he ran off to grab his Bronze Medal. ''He's irredeemable'' Clarity stated defeated, but smiling, and everyone chuckled. The next few announcements went by with intense suspense and shared excitement for the other great athletes achievements, until suddenly, his name was announced yet again. The Announcers seemed to be as glad as Fireclaw was about winning the Silver Medal in Speed Skating, thus besting his placement from last year that landed him a Bronze Medal, and now to top it off completing his medal collection. From the Participation Medal, to the Gold Medal, he now had won it all. A complete collection of medals - seriously, if my leg gives out or whatever - despite Clarity's super amazing healing powers ...and if that would make me unable to compete next year... ? I.. I think I wouldn't mind, I'm happy to have won everything I set out to win to be honest.'' ''Really? You're not thinking about retiring, are you?'' Clarity asked him, surprised. ''Noooo!!! I'm just saying that I've worked hard, very, very, veryyyy hard, and I've actually accomplished all what I wanted, I dunno, I just feel satisfied and content with this, at... peace? Is that even the right word for it... ?'' he scratched his chin, and was interrupted by Unknown patting him on the shoulder. ''You have matured' Clarity said, pretty much stating out loud what Unknown was showing his friend without words. ''Really... ? I mean, of course I have! Have I ever [i][b]not[/b][/i] been the most mature and serious dragon around?!'' Everyone laughed, he truly was the same as ever, even if some maturity had settled in him. The Clan Medalist announcement went by quickly and with no more medals to him, but he really didn't mind. Everyone new what he had accomplished last year and even this year, even the Announcers made references to him throughout their speeches, so Fireclaw was more than proud of his achievements. ''So, next year, will you go for the Gold again?'' Glacynea asked him with curiosity in her voice. ''Sure! I mean, I'll try to, but if I don't win, who cares?! The important thing is to have fun - especially with y'all by my side.'' he grinned excitedly. And so, the ceremony ended, they went to winners banquet, and made their final arrangements to embark on their journey back home to The Starfall Isles. They all had accomplished many things this Gala, and as soon as they were to reach the Clan they'd start working towards their next grand adventure together.
