Cross-Country Skiing

Caleb had not placed the last time he'd come to the Games. The initial discouragement had turned into determination over the next two years. He wanted to be a great dragon whose name was in the history books; a legend. A myth! Now returned, he plowed through the snow, his dream burning brightly in his heart, and fueling him as he forged ahead across the hills and valleys lined with their deep drifts of snow.

Day 3 - Luge (singles) with Starnight

Today was his day, Starnight was preparing for his slide down the hill with the sleigh provided by the event.

"That sh-should be it, b-b-be careful, okay?" stuttered his beloved mate Moon while finishing helping to put on the shoes he had to wear during the ride, better safe than sorry and he surely didnt wanted to hurt himself where it was extremly painful.

"Dont worry, being careful is part of the job and if anything happends, i can fix myself!" laughs the white Coatl, puts on the helmet and let his counterpart tighten the strip. Having such small feet and hands was a bit troublesome for cases like this.

A the loud roar of a horn signaled that it was his turn, but before Starnight could go, Moon gave him a quick nuzzle. "F-F-For good l-luck..." she explained, before rushing off to sit next to her clanmates to watch.

The coatl doctor of the Cult of Frozen Storms strolls to his start position with a spring in his step and a huge smile as he looked up to the sky right above the stand where his mate just found her seat and the moon was shining brightly.
He was truely blessed by two wonderful moons.

The Icefield was still the Icefield nonetheless. It was still the land Gordu grew up in. “Fairly sure you're an old relative. Fairly sure.” Another Ice Tundra ambled over, with very similar colours to Gordu. It had been some time since he'd last walked the ice floes, and Gordu was glad to find an amicable aroma. It would have been concerning not to at such a big event. The two had had a brief introduction during the opening ceremonies. “What're you entering today?” The friendly Tundra asked. “Cross-country skiing.” Gordu smiled. “The old Ice tradition.” He nodded. The two thickly-furred dragons walked leisurely, enjoying the scents of the festival stalls and the nostalgically frosty air. Later, Gordu spotted the other Tundra, his name has sounded like 'Ainplaq', perhaps? Both were in the start area where the skiers warmed up and tended to their skis. Ainplaq displayed good form as he moved across the snow, as was noted, given the respectable starting position he'd earned. The last wait was between athletes taking their assigned positions behind the startline, and the start of the race. Some were suitably cool, some continued to visibly psyche themselves, a couple hopped on the spot, and a few contemplated their own thoughts. Gordu looked down at the snow and patted at a spot with a ski. The Tundra nodded to himself, satisfied with the quality of the snow that had been carefully monitored and maintained by mage-officials. Fresh flakes began to fall. Gordu didn't waste any energy on trying to push ahead in the earliest segment of the race. While almost everyone was in a thick pack, it was difficult to move up. As the first climb began however, competitors started to spread more thinly down the slope, and several exchanged places. The top faced the moon, and everyone glided down, grateful for the goggles that kept the windblown snow out of their eyes, though it still impeded vision. Ainaplaq wasn't far now, but he wasn't the leader of the pack at that point. Focussing on just the one obstacle could allow another problem to creep up on you, however. Much could change over the rest of the course. Patiently, Gordu proceeded to steadily continue endeavouring to advance.

He thought of his clan, and how they would be cheering him on, though he would never hear them over the shushing sound of the luge. His eyes scanned the crowds, eventually meeting those belonging to his mate Sunsparkle, who was watching him. She waved and held up her handmade sign wishing him "Lightspeed". Luminous began his preparations, rocking himself back and forth, building up speed and then pushing off the ice with his spiky gloves, launching the toboggan downhill. Lying back, he can feel his momentum increasing, giving him a rush of excitement. All of his muscles are engaged while he allows gravity to propel himself forward. The world is a blur as he banks and turns, the centripetal force making him feel pleasantly dizzy and exhilarated. Time ceases to exist, he is in flow. And then the race is over, as quickly as it began.

"Great Tidelord, this is so dangerous." He muttered, raising an eyebrow. Were his clanmates trying to get themselves killed? What had gotten into them? He sighed heavily, his runes pulsing under the pale light of the moon. So this was a celebration of the Ice Flight. When he thought of Ice, he usually thought of prisons and tundras and keeping horrors locked far beneath the snow. He thought of the Icewarden and his frozen heartland. He didn't think of fierce competition and high intensity sports that looked liable to have a death count. It was a bit of a wakeup call that perhaps their icy neighbors weren't so different after all. This whole idea was terrifying, but somehow Neptune felt a pull towards one of the sign-up booths. Maybe he could find out firsthand what it was that others saw in these sports? He scraped together his courage and shot a smile at the attendant. "Hello. My name is Neptune, from Clan Lucerna, and I would like to sign up for... what's the most dangerous one? Luge, probably? Let's go with that."

Luge

Neptune wasn't easily shaken, he liked to think, but he paled when reading the overviews of each sport. "Great Tidelord, this is so dangerous." He muttered, raising an eyebrow. Were his clanmates trying to get themselves killed? What had gotten into them? He sighed heavily, his runes pulsing under the pale light of the moon.

It was a bit of a wakeup call that perhaps their icy neighbors weren't so different after all.
