What seems to be new this year, are the number of covered faces in the premises due to the not so subtle masqurade theme. Nearly every booth and event host seems to be getting in on the fun, and the host of Mistral Meals isn't exempt. He was feeling much calmer than he had been last year, now having a proper year of hosting under his belt, he was much more confident in the more competitive direction he was taking his clan's traditional event. Well....mostly confident. Last year the chefs of Wayfarer's Rest had taken to disgusing themselves with masks to sneak in and observe how the event was going without the Wildclaw's knowledge. THIS year the other seven dragons seemed to be blatantly setting up booths around the proximity of the Mistral Meals arena...while still disgusing themselves with masks. Considering the Jamboree theme this year, Compote was certain the actualy disgusing part was just a coincidence, but he wasn't sure what to make of the positioning of the booths, and they didn't seem inclined to tell him. "Just focus on your own event, kiddo!" Ursus said with a cheerful chirp when he'd tried to dig into it, "No need to acumulate extra stress when the pressure of such a long established and large compition is on your shoulders~" Compote really needed to learn to stop going to Ursus for advice, but he had to admit the Tundra was right. Casting a wary look at one of the mystery stands, Compote hurried back to the arena entrance so that he could open for bussiness. This challenge is for all users out there who enjoy food and cooking, whether they have real life skills in the kitchen or not! [LIST=1] [*][b]The Cooking Contest[/b] will consist of 3 rounds of cooking role-play over the course of the Jamboree week, and will require contestants to sign up between March 20th-26th. Each round will be 2 days long, and will require contestants to include specified challenge ingredients. Deciding who moves onto the next round will be determined by RNG, and there are badges and a grand prize up for grabs! [*][b]The Daily Activities[/b] will be open to anyone and will count as the entries for tickets for the raffle prizes as well as earning a small daily prize. These will not necessarily be cooking related prompts, but the more you participate the higher your odds of winning a raffle prize! [/LIST] [b]Note regarding event updates[/b]: Daily updates will occur soon after 5:00FRT, so you have until then to post Activity entries, but only until 4:30FRT for the Challenge ones. Unfortunately for the Cooking Challenge I cannot be lenient with late entries due to the tournoment format, but Daily Activity entries will be accepted up until 30 minutes after my update post (based on timestamps) to accomodate anyone in the middle of writing theirs last minute. [*]Challenge rounds will be 48 hours long. If your do not submit an entry by the 4:30FRT deadline you will be considered a "no-show" and will automaticaly loose that round. You will still win any cosolation prizes, if applicable to the round. [*]While you are not limited to using the same dragon for all three challenges, you must still submit one on the signup form to be the "team representative." [*]You are only required to use [b]three[/b] of the challenge ingredients. Beyond that you are allowed and encouraged to use other ingredients (whether they exist as in-game items or not). Assume that every potential ingredient and/or cooking device is available for your dragons to use (some of the more advanced gadgetry has been nabbed from Lightning). [*]Entries are encouraged to be written as role-play, but I'll also accept recipe format, just so long as it is written in-character/associated with one of your dragons and addresses the theme of the round. [*]Technically there is no word length minimum or maximum. Write whatever is most comfortable for you, so long as the two requirements (challenge theme and ingredient) are included. After what seemed like forever, several varrying familiars found the dragons who'd decided to leave out in the fairgrounds, giving them a scroll that simply indicated that the Mistral Meals winners were ready to be announced. Once everyone was gathered again, Compote was standing infront of a set of 4 cloches, clearly intending to reveal the winning dish (or rather the leftovers in the case of a few of them) from each match up as he announced them. But accidents happen and the judges still had plenty to praise about their submitted dish. Not to mention that trick with the fanfish fans dusted with powdered stardust mites? That's a presentation trick everyone should try themselves when trying to impress! While no judge could agree on which component of both teams' entries was the best (me, I delighted over the MistJam pun and would love another serving of the Bullephant Donburi), it was Fire Calico's artistic presentation that once again gave them the win! HER. ELEMENT. While the icy skydancer had some skills preparing frozen treats, she was first and foremost a merchant. She'd been able to dabble in this last year, but as they were trying to keep their activities secret from Compote she couldn't really be obvious about it. THIS YEAR though, she's brought her whole caravan to the fairgrounds, using it as storage and a break space with her booth set up next to it, and decorated to be as eye-catching as possible. She has masks and kites and pinwheels of course, because you have to know what the general product demand when selling at an event, but the main items shes stocked up on are bento boxes with localy sourced ingredients and containing treats prepared by both the Wayfarer's Rest chefs, as well as some of their volunteers and other Windy cooks from around region. There were even ones with runes along the edges of the boxes to help keep the foods within them fresh fo long journies home. She also had help, which was a new experience for her, in the form of a small green fae that seemed to periodicaly blend into the bright green decor of their booth. At first she was trying to calculate ways to get out of the volunteer mandate the rest of her clanmates had decided on this year, but after meeting and chatting with Grasshopper, she discovered he was a fellow gourmet and really knew his stuff (at least in terms of food quality; he was first to admit he was not really one for the actual preperation of food and was intentionaly hoping to volunteer at one of the less cooking-y booths). Grasshopper and Kakigori were able to spend a good part of the earlier days of the Jamboree just chatting about some of the best foods they've ever eaten and where to source the best ingredients, but as expected, the last day their booth was [i]slammed[/i], so they had barely any free time just keeping up with sales and keeping shelves stocked. Due to the chaos, Kakigori realized one small problem pretty quickly, though it wasn't until after their mid-day rush that she was able to say anything about it. "Grasshopper, the last day's almost done so I really don't think anyone will care if we ditch the masks at this point," she said, lifting hers up to rest on the top of her head, "With how fast we've got to move I can barely tell with you what's your crest emoting and what's mask antenne whipping about!" Usually, the only dragons who attend are dragons who align with that flight elementally or those whose breeds originate from that region. Of course, there are outliers who travel to seek fun or have some time off. The entire Clan, however, will celebrate the Crystalline Gala, regardless of elemental alignment or breed origin.
