Biography

Previously a traveling dragon, Quartz has settled in to be a permanent member of Clan Aquaurora. She is the resident healer, and also enjoys experimenting with cooking in her spare time. She and her mate, Quartzite, like to travel together for festivals. They love each other very much, although sometimes Quartz feels like he's like an additional hatchling.

Today is the day I must bid farewell to the lair I have called my home for many seasons now. Though it pains me to leave, I’m afraid I have become unsatisfied with the life I live now. Though it is true I’m quite miserable in this cold climate, and I’ve failed to grow close with any dragons here, that is not my reason of departure. Quite suddenly and quite peculiarly did I stumble upon an old dream of mine; one that I haven’t dreamt of since my hatchling days. I can’t quite put my talon on it, but I think it came back to me in a dream, or perhaps I allowed my train of thought to wonder awfully far one night. My hatchling dream of becoming a traveling nurse... It all sounds quite childish (and perhaps foolish) once I write it out, but it’s true. The art of healing currently escapes me, but I wish to relearn it all during my travels. I want to study and I want to help those in need. Perhaps I’ll stumble upon a beaten up pack who barely survived the coliseum, or another wandering dragon in dire need of help. Perhaps I’ll become the temporary (maybe even permanent) nurse of a whole lair, filled with dragons awaiting my assistance. Whatever the case may be, I wish to be of use once more. Stars above, wish my luck on my foolish journey...

I found my way to Carrion Canyon, the more prestigious territories of the Lightning Flight. The land was barren, a far jump than what I was used to back home. The faint crackling of electricity surging through the earth gave me chills, but I pressed on anyway. I stumbled upon a group of dragons heading away from a den. They introduced themselves, Kumo, Reverie, and Ukiyo, and explained that they were on their way to the coliseum. I told them about myself and my dream to become a travelling nurse, and Kumo invited me along to train with them. I'm super excited to be training with them, and I hope I can make some progress with this opportunity! I'll be writing back soon!
p.s. I trained up to level 5!

Journey Entry #3

Somehow, after leaving the the lightning flight, I had managed to find my way back to the Ice flight, into a clan who called themselves The Isle Of Dancing Lights. It didn't take long to figure out why they called themselves, as my first night here the sky had lit up in hues of greens and reds, as a strange phenomenon occurred at the top of the Cloudscrape crags. I'd never seen such a display of lights before, not even back in my old home hidden within the Snowquell tundra. Perhaps it was due to how high the mountains here were? The dragons here were pleasant and kind. Their leaders welcomed me with open arms, letting me stay in a small camp with a few other travelling dragons. Among them was Blasterwho loved to tell stories of his days a medicine dragon. The tales he told were amazing, and made me want to pursue my dreams even more. Before leaving the clan, he had offered me advice, and a few slightly worn books of remedies and plants he had.

Well, that was unfortunate! Soon after leaving the Ice flight, I found myself kidnapped and shoved in a den with a lot of starving dragons! It was a long time before a helpful stranger came along and rescued me(@GrinningWolf24). I was made welcome in his Wind clan, and he offered his den as a place to rest and relax until I felt up to traveling again. Thanks to the friendly Wind clan, I heard of an opening for a healer in a nearby Water clan, so I've made my way over to the Water flight to see what help I can offer.

It wasn't like Bob hadn't been asked to do something similar before. It wasn't even like he was overly surprised. He was, however, surprised at the distance he had to travel in this particular case. After a routine delivery to a clan on the northern border of the Viridian Labyrinth, a middle-aged Opheodrys Serthis had slithered out of the woods onto the beach and waved at him until he landed.
418.png

"Yes?"

The Serthis grinned, and a forked tongue slid from between his teeth. "I have a miSSive for MaStreSS Aoide of Clan Aquaurora. She haS ignored uS long enough."

"Oh." Bob took the letter and scanned the address. "Everything seems to be in order. Shall I wait for a reply?"

"No need. We will wait until the nekSt delivery."

"Delivery of what?" the Sprite asked, but the Serthis had already turned and slithered into the woods. Bob sighed and read the postage again. Even the handwriting reflected the curious accent of the Serthis clan.

It was a longer journey than he had anticipated. He was swept off course passing through the Plaguelands, and captured by a band of clearly hostile Serthis, who nearly burned him alive until he showed them the letter of peace he bore from one of their kin far away. They opened it and read it, much to Bob's consternation, but they let him go, hissing in their own tongue but tending to his immediate needs.

Bob did not have time to recover. He was late, far behind schedule. He dusted himself off and flew as fast as he could, but when he reached the Sea, he faced a dilemma. Should he attempt the long flight across, which was shorter, or go around the edge, where he would have chances to rest briefly and save the mail? A quick glance through his remaining letters sealed it. He would go around.

Each clan along the edge of the Sea welcomed him, and many dragons offered a hearty meal or a tasty cookie. He accepted where he could, but he felt that he could not wait. The last, the very last letter in his satchel, was the one that had saved his life in the Plaguelands. He felt certain that he had to deliver it as soon as possible.

At the very last, he spotted the rocky promontory of Clan Aquaurora. He spiraled down in exhaustion, catching the eye of a patrolling dragon before he suddenly blacked out.

Bob awakened in a cozy cave. "The letter!" he cried, and struggled to get free of the blanket.

An elderly Skydancer shushed him. "It's all right, Bob." She picked up the last letter in his pouch; tattered by wind, smeared by water, stained by blood, but still legible. "I have it."

"Are you Aoide?"

The Skydancer smiled and shook her head slightly. "I'm Quartz. I was mentioned in the letter...oh, you probably didn't read it. I know this Serthis clan. I've visited them several times."

A female Opheodrys Serthis slithered in and hissed something in native Serthis. Quartz responded in the same language, very quietly, and the Serthis nodded and left. She turned back to Bob. "This clan doesn't recognize Beastclan as equals. So I have been very quiet about my relationship with them. But..." she held up the letter. "MaStreSS SalaSarSarin is right. It is time. I will personally deliver this to Aoide. It's best she hear it from me anyway. I'm the one who knows them. And you..." she smiled. "You need to recover your strength. And then you must report back to your headmaster. You should be able to leave tomorrow."

The postman wriggled in protest, but she shushed him. " 'Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor darkness' ", she quoted, "but, perhaps, loss of blood and exhaustion. Besides, you've delivered the last letter in your satchel. Rest."

Postman Bob grumbled, but he knew she was right. The old Pearlcatcher would worry, and a pile of letters would be mounding up on his desk, but he needed a break. Just a quick one. Just a short nap...Postman Bob was asleep.
