When Violet found herself at the entrance to what appeared to be an enormous, natural maze she just couldn't help herself, she needed to know what it contained. She advanced with excitement, and at a somewhat reckless bound, through the twisting paths of the Everbloom Gardens. Curiosity was her guide. She headed toward whatever brightly colored flowers or strange sounds seemed the most promising at any given juncture, which proved a less than straightforward path. It seemed like this would make a great adventure!

Leafstep fluttered her wings lightly as she stepped into the maze. Flight was, of course, not technically allowed, but the winding paths had been walled high and large enough to admit even Imperials, so she reasoned that a little bit of flying was okay, as long as she didn't go high enough to see over the tops of the trees and hedges. She stifled a chuckle at the thought of a Fae or Spiral being forced to WALK the entire distance from the edge of the Evergreen Gardens to the Behemoth. Even in a straight line, that could take months.
She alternated between flutter-hopping and walking, enjoying the lush landscape. She and her mate had come up the week before to hatch a clutch of eggs, and they had decided to take turns participating in the events and watching over their two latest hatchlings. The Water lair where she lived was beautiful, and occasionally she'd even been escorted down to the kelp forests, but it wasn't the same as real trees. The woods near their lair were too dangerous to anyone untrained as a warrior or battle mage.
Her Maned Cerdae trotted after her, also appearing to enjoy herself. There were a lot more different types of plants to sample here.
They came to the first fork in the path. "What do you think, Wildwood?" Leafstep asked.
The Cerdae snorted, and began nibbling a flower near the path.
"Come on," Leafstep laughed. She headed to the right, and almost immediately found herself at a dead end.
Wildwood had not followed her, but still stood at the crossroads, calmly munching her flower.
"You're the smart one," Leafstep told her. "But next time, you go down the path to find out if it's a dead end."
Wildwood tossed her mane and trotted along the path to the left. The Skydancer followed her.

Cecil tilted his head this way and that, rolling his pearl from one claw to the other. Then, with a little nod and a flap of the wings, he traced his token along one of the paths before setting it down. "Now, it may not lead to much right now, but perhaps tomorrow it'll lead to something more~!" He seemed optimistic about his odds.
