Schnee sells plenty of types of flowers and flower seeds that blossom beautifully in the snowfields! Even when he isn't selling actively at the carnival, he adores looking at the work of those who are. The crystalline gala is his favorite festival in Sornieth for a reason, though he sometimes catches himself looking enviously at the couples and friend groups that are wandering around aimlessly. He's not too interested in most of his clanmates, if they can be called that- his family is just barely a part of their clan, and live a few miles away from them. That being said... perhaps he could use some company... He asks her if she would like to spend some time at the carnival with him, and she timidly accepts. They walk through the carnival together, mostly silent. Schnee feels... uneasy. What if this dragon, Pearl, didn't actually want to be there with him? He's used to silence- he isn't the most talkative dragon himself, after all. But Pearl seems even more quiet. He asks her if she is having a good time, and she says yes, she is. "I'm glad," Schnee says. "I was afraid my talk of snowfield flowers might bore you." "Not at all, though I'm more interested in gems, personally." Pearl laughed softly. "If there were an arrangement with both, though, I think that would be stunning." Schnee stopped, and thought deeply. "I could make one," he said absent-mindedly. "We could make one. Together." Pearl thought deeply. Then, she laughed, a hint of unease in her voice. "Maybe. I don't know what I want to do yet." The young imperials continued through the carnival.

Hanakoto, Water (and wishing I hadn't left Ice. Oh well.)

"Every year, My Queen," Andhera grumbled. "Every. Year."

"Then you should be an expert at the games," Meroe said crisply. "Besides, I thought you liked the biathlon--especially after they decreed returning champions can use a bow."

"Just because I like something, doesn't mean I want it all the time." The clan's fightmaster realized she was snapping at her queen and tried to modulate her tone a little better. "Please send Cocytus? He's made for this event!"

"Cocytus is banned from the Sornieth Winter Games after too many gold medals." The Queen smiled slyly. "At any rate, he's been assigned to escort duty this year and isn't available to so much as advise. I would also not recommend selecting Capricorn...she seems to have gotten herself into some sort of...weeklong quest. I only hope she comes back to us alive."

"January?" Andhera asked desperately. "Andraste?"

"Lady Andraste is busy in the observatory. Something about grave changes for the High Queen this year." Meroe considered the other option. "I will ask January if she wishes to captain the Games team this year, on the condition you agree to be her second."

Andhera bowed deeply. "Anything, my Queen...anything!"

So I ended up picking a dragon who doesn't like the festivities, and I used enough adverbs to give Stephen King nightmares. Way to go, Hana! (*rolls her eyes at herself*)

Especially since she wanted desperately to get to the Sornieth Winter Games before they closed entries for the day, and she did not want to have to explain to Carnival security why a food stall had blown up...or have to explain to Spellweaver why her beloved mate was in chains.... The sights and sounds of her Birth Flight flowed around her, reminding her poignantly of how much she loved this area of Sornieth, especially around this time of year.

Except it was totally in a creepy way.

She glanced furtively around. In the distance, carnival music and laughter and everyone was so happy and here she was, standing at the outskirts and feeling like a complete stalker.

She hoped no one would mistake her for a kidnapper. It had happened many times before, and no matter how many times she said, “No! Really! I don’t even like kids.” no one ever seemed to believe her.

But for once, she wasn’t hanging around like a creep because of a misunderstanding. No, she was terrified of something much, much scarier.

Her clan.

Word would spread everywhere, like a raging wildfire that burned and burned, and no matter how much she could try to douse the flames, she’d only end up fanning them until everyone would be pointing and laughing and saying: “That crazy Skydancer went to a carnival? The one who never leaves her den?” And she could just imagine the look they’d give her. That strange, unsure of what to make of her look that they always had whenever she did something unusual or downright weird.

… Except she didn’t think she ever did anything that was that weird.

Footsteps.

She stiffened, trying not to move as a dragon wandered past, almost brushing against her (Too close! Much too close!) before she caught herself. This was supposed to be a happy time.

So she smiled at him in a friendly kind of way. Except maybe she didn’t get it right. Maybe she did it in a creepy kind of way because the dragon took one look at her and fled.

She watched the dragon disappear into the crowds, and considered leaving her nice li’l corner to get some candy, or play a game, and be happy and carefree.

But then she thought of her clan, and all the people having so much fun, and no doubt someone would accuse her of kidnapping a hatchling again, so she just sat there, content to let the carnival music wash over her as she hummed along in a not so creepy way.

Except it was totally in a creepy way.

And though usually shy and soft-spoken, the Skydancer could be very persistent. Vanir kept a close eye on the colourful speck prancing through the white snow in front of him. What if there were pickpockets around? He already made up plans in his mind on how to chase them away just in case, and didn't notice that his friend had turned around to address him. "Vanir! Are you listening?" The Imperial shook his head in confusion and squinted at Astraeus. The Skydancer's shoulders sagged in exasperation. "I was telling you about that snack stand over there. They are selling candied apples." And with those words, he grabbed a corner of Vanir's cloak and dragged him over to the booth. Five minutes later, both of them were nibbling on their glazed snacks. Vanir had paid for them, of course. He had some honour as the clan's treasurer and Astraeus didn't ever get enough gold for his dancing anyway. Speaking of gold, they spent some more on a game booth where Astraeus won a fluffy, stuffed mith doll and on a carousel that Astraeus left feeling a bit dizzy. As he sat down on a bench for a moment, Vanir's mind wandered off again. Now, about those pickpockets...
