Biography

Annalee and her younger brother hatched in the Hoverview Vale around midsummer. Their parents lived there without a permanent home and mostly just travelled back and forth between floating islands. Annalee enjoyed their nomadic lifestyle as it allowed her to see the world below easily but she also wished they stayed in one place for longer time. She couldn’t really get enough of what she saw before they were already leaving and she had difficulties with making friends for the same reason. She did have her brother but the two shared very little in common.

Nomadic lifestyle was rather hard for the family and once Annalee got older her parents told she was allowed to leave if she so wished. She could stay in one place as long as she wanted and her parents would have easier time travelling without two extra bogsneaks. The breed wasn’t the best flier and their mother was often tired for needing to help the three bogsneaks from one island to next. Annalee’s brother Nightfrill was very eager to leave and he started to make his way down towards the plague domain. Annalee on the other hand had her eyes on another target; a massive dome in south-west. She said farewell to her parents and started to make her way down towards the walled city.

Annalee wasn’t quite sure what she was supposed to do once she reached the Astrolodome. She was quite used to sleeping under the sky above all the clouds that could rain on her. That though didn’t seem to be an option in the big city, at least Annalee didn’t see anyone sleeping outside. Assuming she should get herself a house to live in, like everyone else, she made her way to a rental company. They had houses available but they were not willing to rent her an apartment because she was unemployed and thus incapable of paying the rent. They though were kind enough to suggest her some easy jobs she could try get and Annalee went to check them out.

Astrolodome felt like a maze to Annalee who was used to open fields of the flying islands and she got lost more than once. She though eventually managed to find the places that were suggested to her and ended up getting a job in a café. With that taken care of the rental company offered her apartment and she settled in there. She learned to navigate the big city quite fast, at least the area she lived in, and she got a hang of her job fairly easily. Big hands of bogsneak though were not the best for precise job and she got few complains here and there. No one though got food poisoning from her creations and that was enough to ease her mind.

Life in the big city was manageable though the rent was quite high and Annalee had to work a lot to keep the roof on top of her head. She was often very tired and wanting to just rest she didn’t get to interact much with her coworkers. That made her a little lonely and to combat that she got herself a familiar, or two to be more precise. She managed to snatch sugar and spice mimics from sale and being mimics they didn’t require food and grooming like more animal like familiars did and being rather small they were able to fit in her flat. They weren’t the type of company she had wished, the type that would talk back, but they made her feel less lonely and their playful nature did make her feel better whenever she arrived home beat.

With the rent being so high Annalee tried to buy food from sale whenever possible. Sadly the type of food she used was not always on sale and she started to wonder if she should change breed. If she was an omnivore she wouldn’t need to stress about what food type was cheapest at the moment, but at the same time getting the scroll cost money and there was a chance that something went wrong with the spell. Annalee evaluated her options. Only breeds that were able to eat basically everything were guardian, imperial, veilspun and aberration. Out of them imperial scrolls had been illegal since the emperors had appeared, veilspun scroll required gems which she was not able to get and having two heads was an easy deal breaker when it came to aberration scroll. That left only the guardian as an option and while the scroll was overall among the cheapest ones Annalee was not sure about the Search and the charge. She decided to worry about that later and started to save up treasure, just in case.

Annalee kept on working to keep the roof on her head and food in stomach while also saving for the scroll. With autumn arrived harvest and plant foods were incredibly cheap. That was great to Annalee but she knew she couldn’t really stockpile plants as her flat wasn’t that large, and she knew the prices of her food would rise all the way until summer when meat became plentiful. The approaching winter also meant she would need to pay for lighting and heating which meant less money for food. With that pressing in her mind Annalee decided to return to her breed change dilemma. Over the past few weeks she had managed to save up enough treasure to get the guardian scroll and being very tempted by the cheap food all year round she decided to buy it. She asked one of her coworkers to use it on her, a common precaution, and after that it was time to get used to the bigger body.

The breed change had not been as horrible as Annalee had feared and the bigger size had not caused that many problems. However, she soon started to feel a strong urge to go travel. Having had grown in a nomadic family she had wanted to go travel for some time by then but after the breed change the urge grew way stronger. She could have left her home to take on the Search but travelling was stressful and she didn’t have money to pay for travels, rest and food. She decided to stay where she was and fight the urge the best she could.

With autumn arrived the Starfall Celebration and as it approached excited dragons started to arrive to the Isles. That meant a lot of tourists that came to visit the café and with that many dragons coming and going Annalee’s hands were full of work. The day was usually the busiest time in the café and things calmed down a bit when evening arrived. After one busy day Annalee had ended up snoozing off on the counter. Once her hand touched a warm coffee pot she was fast to realize she was not in her home and got up as soon as possible. The café was quite empty so late in the evening and lucky for Annalee there had not been that many witnesses, and boss was not present anymore.

On the counter a coatl asked if she had had a rough day his tone being teasingly curious. Annalee straightened her hat and admitted the days were very busy now that the arcane holiday was just around the corner. The coatl nodded to sign he understood. Annalee looked at the coatl who looked like a fire dragon from glance yet his eyes were dark pink. He though didn’t seem to be locals and she decided to ask where he had come. The coatl explained that he had arrived from the fire domain and was now on his way to the heart of the Starfall festivities as he was a travelling performer. That certainly explained his bright look.

The coatl took a look at Annalee and asked if she owned the café as she was older than other workers. Most of café’s workers were rather young as it was a common first workplace for young dragons. Most of the young dragons worked there until they were able to get to a school or find another job which meant most worked a month at max. Unlike they who often still lived with their parents Annalee lived alone and with the salary being so low she had no time to prepare for a school or even think where to go. She admitted staying out of the streets and keeping stomach full was a lot to her, maybe even too much.

The coatl nodded in understanding and after a short silence he asked if Annalee was what kind of chef. She couldn’t make gourmet level meals but she knew how to cook, and she would cook more if she had time and money. The coatl explained that in his home clan there was a chef who would probably appreciate extra pair of hands in her cafeteria. The pay wasn’t that high but on the positive side living and eating in the clan was basically free as long as one did some work in there. The coatl added that he gave the suggestion in case Annalee wanted less stressful life and her charge didn’t mind. Annalee explained that she didn’t have a charge yet though she felt strong pull to go on the Search. The coatl seemed pleased by the answer and told the journey could probably lead her to her special one.

Annalee was curious but also cautious. The journey could be dangerous, the clan could be a cult and she might lose the very little she had at the moment. There though was no denying that she wanted to leave and so she asked where coatl’s home clan was. The coatl asked for some paper to draw on and once he got that he told the clan was called Ruoigu and it was located on the west side of the Focal Point on its own landmass. It was easily found if one just followed the path from the small port in the south. Once she got to the lair she should look for Pix in the cafeteria and if she asked anything Annalee could just say Hillo sent her. After that the coatl thanked for the coffee, wished good night for Annalee and left though not until he stopped to recommend to not arrive to the clan before afternoon. It was nocturnal.

Annalee arrived home tired like usually. She ate something fast and went to rest her familiars coming to check on her. She wasn’t sure what she should do. She wanted to leave and free home and food sounded very attractive but she was worried the risks were too high. She asked what her familiars thought and though they did not speak Annalee was able to see they were excited. She took a look at the paper Hillo had drawn and tried to figure out what the best way would be. The clan didn’t seem to be that far away all things considered so she could probably make her way there on her own. However, she was tired and would most likely not be able to rest enough for the journey.

Noise underneath Annalee’s window attracted the familiars to see what was going on and they soon started jumping as if asking Annalee to come see it. Annalee got up and came to the window. Down on the streets the Starfall organizers were setting up public transport for the event and that was when Annalee realized something. During holidays moving between all of the attractions across the domain was made very easy, and free, meaning Annalee could use them to get closer to her destination. Now was the perfect time for her to move if she wanted to do so. She could not hesitate, she had to leave as soon as possible or else she’d miss her chance.

Once the Starfall Celebration started Annalee quit her job and terminated her rental agreement. With no reason or place to stay in she stepped out of the dome and used a Starfall themed ship to get to the Focal Point. Once there she started to follow the coast to the west and once she found the separate landmass she started to follow its coast. The area was very sparely lived in and Annalee started to worry she would need to sleep under the sky. It was not that bad, she had done that when she had been just a hatchling, but unlike then the clouds were now above her and she didn’t want to sleep in rain.

It was late afternoon when Annalee eventually found something more than just unlived cliff faces; a small port and some kind of marine lab. The signs on the port told Annalee that she was on the right track and she stopped for a moment to rest. She had walked whole day and she had yet to recover from overworking herself in her previous job. She considered asking if she could rest in the lab but it seemed to be empty at the moment, perhaps the owner was doing field research, and so Annalee decided to go forward. If she hurried, she might reach the clan before it got dark.

Annalee had severely miscalculated how long it would take to reach the clan. The Sun had set and she had yet to reach any kind of settlement. If it wasn’t for the statues she would have thought she had gotten lost or been tricked. She could barely walk by the time she heard something ahead of her and hopeful that she had finally arrived to her destination she rushed forward despite of her light head and tired legs. Once she stepped up the steps to the lair area she followed the signs to the cafeteria to meet Pix. Smarter idea would have been to stop at the inn to rest but at that point Annalee’s brain had ceased all unneeded thoughts.

Inside the cafeteria Annalee saw dragons picking something to eat from a buffet that had been set up and seeing all the food made her stomach growl. She had not eaten anything since leaving the port, and she had not eaten that much. A coatl behind the counter asked if she could help Annalee and after her head cleared up she told she was looking for Pix. The coatl told Annalee had found her and she spent a moment to figure out what she should do next. She introduced herself, explained that she had worked as barista in her previous job and that Hillo had hinted that Pix needed some extra hands and so she had arrived to look for a job. She reached her hand towards the coatl and she answered to the handshake.

Pix held Annalee’s hand as she glanced her from head to tail. After Annalee’s stomach growled loudly she asked if the guardian was alright, she looked rather beat. Annalee explained that she had been moving since morning and she had not eaten for a while, and she had kind of overworked herself in her previous job. Pix asked her to get something to eat from the buffet and once she was done she should follow a green ridgeback who was enjoying his dinner. Pix shouted to the ridgeback, Vataja, to give Annalee a free stay as she pushed Annalee towards all the food. She was not sure what the coatl meant by that.

After Annalee had eaten she had sat in place for moment. She could not remember when she had eaten like that last time, or if she had ever eaten like that. She felt like she could just fall asleep in there and before that actually happened she decided to get up. She glanced where that Vataja was and she saw him wait near a door to a glass corridor which Annalee had seen connecting cafeteria to inn. Annalee’s legs were so in pain she had to force herself to move forward as she followed the ridgeback. Once they reached the inn he went behind the counter, asked Annalee for a name and gave her a room to stay in. He explained that if she woke up before cafeteria buffet was ready there should be leftovers for her to eat. Annalee thanked Vataja and started to make her way to her room. Vataja came to help her with her pack and once Annalee was in her room she collapsed to the bed and fell asleep.

Annalee woke up quite late for her standards but for the clan it seemed to be early. Vataja could be heard snoring behind the lobby, there were no dragons outside and the cafeteria was empty and silent. Like the inn-keeper had said there were leftovers waiting to be eaten and Annalee picked the one she had not eaten the previous night. Once she had finished Pix arrived to cafeteria and asked if Annalee had slept well. Annalee verified that and Pix asked if the guardian was indeed looking for work. After Annalee answered the coatl picked a recipe from her shelf and asked her to make it for her as breakfast. The test made Annalee a bit nervous but all things considered it was expected. She washed her hands and started to look for ingredients.

Pix didn’t expect Annalee to know where everything was and just told where to find whatever was needed but when it came to actually cooking she remained silent. The coatl was checking her breakfast when a nocturne arrived to the cafeteria. Pix introduced the nocturne as Valenca, the waitress, and she also mentioned there to be another worker. Her name was Fiona and she ran both the cafeteria and inn if there were any diurnal visitors though was rarely present otherwise. The chef was pleased with Annalee’s skills and accepted her as part of the crew. She showed places and told she was allowed to take few nights slow as she got used to the new clan, and once the clan started to wake up she sent her to look for the leader figures.

Annalee was able to locate Tinker and Alfa, the two leaders, who then sent her to the earth embassy to meet Pernis and Rosalin. They got her her own nest and after that was sorted out Azul came to show the places. After the tour Annalee stayed outside to take part in clan’s Starfall festivities and once she started to feel tired she returned to the inn to sleep. The next day she moved her stuff to her new nest and spent that day organizing it. The day after that she decided to start her work properly, or as properly as she could being still unaccustomed to the nocturnal lifestyle.

Annalee got used to her new life rather easily and she was also fast to notice that her will to travel had vanished or at least was no longer that strong. She was not sure why but she thought she had found her charge though she had yet to pinpoint who it was. It was probably Pix as seeing her made her feel more at peace but the feeling was not that strong that she could have been sure. She also didn’t feel that stressed whenever the coatl was travelling to the Labyrinth, as she was clan’s nature ambassador, so there was a chance she was wrong with her guess. The charge thing didn’t bother Annalee that much if she didn’t actively think about it and she let the thing be, though she noticed she was worried of being judged by other guardians.

If there was something that bothered Annalee, it was clan’s coffee situation. The clan had coffee beans they got from the nature domain, where most of Sornieth’s coffee was grown, and while they were fine the long journey they had to take could be tasted. At least Annalee could taste it as she had quite sensitive taste when it came to coffee, something she had picked from her previous job. The café had used special coffee beans that had been modified to grow well within arcane domain, and since they came from so close their taste remained pristine. It was not as fine as fresh beans from the Labyrinth but it was still better than beans that had been in bag for days, and the special beans had their special favor.

The longer Annalee worked in the cafeteria the more the coffee bean situation started to bother her. The forest in which the clan lived was magical and in theory it should have been possible to grow the arcane beans in there. She though was not sure if the area was really fitting and if the clan would accept growing the beans themselves. The seeds could get rather pricey. The matter really bothered her and eventually Annalee decided to ask Pix’s opinion. The chef suggested the barista to ask Fen if growing the beans was possible and then think about options.

The ecologist was sure the beans could grow in the clan area, the ground wasn’t that different from Focal Point and the beans could be grown all the way near the Observatory. The fae was also sure that Tres would allow buying them as they were of finer taste, something which the accountant deemed acceptable to buy. That was some good news but Annalee was still a bit worried about where to grow the beans. Fauna had a garden where she grew clan’s herbs, spices and food but to the barista it was a bit too open area. The direct sunlight would ruin the quality of the beans.

Annalee had always found it a bit weird how forested the lair was but at that moment she was happy that there were so many trees. They could offer some shade to the coffee beans if she just got permission to grow them somewhere else than the garden. There was a good place right behind the cafeteria and Pix was willing to give that space for Annalee to use. She didn’t use that area for anything important and she didn’t mind having some high-quality coffee from freshly processed beans. The catch was that if Annalee was not going to give the beans for Fauna to grow she would need to take care of them herself. Annalee thought about that for a moment and eventually decided she was willing to pay that prize for her passion.

Because Annalee naturally got up before the cafeteria opened she had time to tend a small garden. She prepared the ground and once it was ready she bought the beans as well as some warming material. It was midwinter after all. After that she started to tend the small garden every day before starting her work. She took care of the plants, picked the ready beans, processed them and stored in the cafeteria. Occasionally she checked the plants during night as well because she got worried of them.

Annalee’s clanmates found her obsession with the garden a bit weird and frankly she herself was not sure why she felt so strongly about it either. Obsidius, Alfa’s guardian, claimed the garden was her charge and while he had said that as a joke Annalee felt there was some truth in that. She felt at ease whenever she saw the garden was in order and she felt worried when she was in her own nest far away from it. During the day that followed Obsidius’ notation Annalee had come to take care of the garden and just stood there watching it in her thoughts. She wanted to protect her little coffee garden, her little peaceful shelter, and that was when it hit her. The garden was her charge, a quiet and peaceful area filled with coffee plants. It felt rather weird but she was assured that for guardian there was no weird charge, there was just the charge. Annalee was grateful for acceptance and she found some kind of peace knowing that she had something to protect.

Traits

Annalee is an arcane guardian with beige body and brownish grey wings both of which have light beige and pale blue cinder markings. On her face she has a dark mask. She uses a body spell that causes her legs to fade into dark bluish grey color while her tail fades into that color around in the middle and into pale grey color at its tip. Her horns, spines and claws are turned to light pearly purple due to the spell and she tends to have purple eyeshadow to go with her horns. Due to having been originally a bogsneak Annalee’s horns are relatively small and blunt while the fins around her cheeks are quite large. Her eyes are common pink in color.

Annalee tends a small coffee garden and such she wears a black garden hat decorated with a black bow on the right side as well as black shades with gradient lenses. Both the hat and the shades protect her from sunlight during afternoon and the shades have been enchanted to not hinder her sight during nighttime. On her hip, shoulder and wing she has small nets that help her familiars to climb on her and they also carry her gardening tools in case on emergency. On her neck she has robes that have same purpose as the nets and on her wings she carries leaves from the coffee plants to calm herself down when not in the garden. For less practical and more aesthetic clothes Annalee wears white and grey shawl on her shoulders, large white necklace with blue beads, pearly wraps on her tail, pale gray sandals, white tail tuft with blue bead and grey bracelet with pale pink gem on her left arm. While in the cafeteria she also wears a yellow tray on her neck.

Annalee has very sweet voice and her tone is usually friendly and polite. However, if she is annoyed or tired it may be drier and more direct though not the extend of being offensive. During casual conversations she tends to use nicknames but avoids them when in work or when talking to someone higher. She has a melodic Frensh accent.

Small pile of pink petals.

Annalee is friendly and polite dragon who is confident in who she is and mostly just wants to enjoy her life. Due to struggling with money during her early life she can be a bit parsimonious at times but at the same time she considers quality important even if it comes with a high cost. If she buys something, one can be sure it is of high quality. Annalee though is quite modest and she can be happy with little. She also doesn’t really care about bragging or showing off and generally just wants to enjoy her life and gifts she buys for herself. She is dedicated worker and as long as she remains like that she can treat herself however she wants to. She is a bit reluctant to accept gifts from others as she may not see herself worthy yet but she rarely turns them down as that would be impolite of her.

Annalee is a social dragon and loves sharing news and gossips whenever she gets a chance. She is generally polite and friendly and she has high tolerance for others’ behavior. She, however, has her limits and if someone crosses them she is not afraid to say that. She has never been particularly intimidated by others no matter how temperamental they may have been and after changing into a bigger breed she has had even less reasons to worry about those kinds of customers or passerby. If they are being unreasonable, she tries to solve the situation by talking and if that doesn’t work she either asks them to leave or gives them a cold shoulder to make them leave. Best they can do is throw insults at her and they mean nothing to her. Due to her thick skin she doesn’t mind stepping up to defend others either though she tends to avoid that outside of work due to not knowing the context and she doesn’t want to make a fool out of herself.

Annalee is accompanied by a mimic duo sugar and spice who she calls Sweety and Saur respectively. She bought the two from sale to fight her loneliness and such the two are very dear to her. Neither can talk but they understand speech well enough and reply back on their own way, usually by jumping, running away or falling over. The two are energetic, playful and run everywhere as fast as they can with their small legs. They usually spend their time in Annalee’s nest but occasionally they join her during which they ride on her using the nets she is wearing. The two get along with each other perfectly and with others well enough usually. They though are eager to make it known if they were offended Saur being generally easier to offend than Sweety who on the other hand is more social. Both love Annalee dearly and they often sleep with her. They also do their best to defend their dragon if they deem that necessary, with rather poor success.

Small pile of pink petals.

Annalee works in cafeteria and her skillset mainly focuses on her job. She can levitate items as well as change their size to fit any need. As she mainly cooks her cooking skills are great though she prefers not to be called chef. Instead she prefers being referred as barista as her coffee making skills are what she is truly proud of. She grows and processes her own coffee beans and she has developed methods to make it as fast as possible using mix of magic and her size, she can name few dozen coffee bean variants and she can make all kinds of coffee by heart. She can also recognize them based on taste or smell alone. Along with those she knows spells to keep food warm or cold and she can write and erase text from paper with magic. Both skills are mainly used to help with running the cafeteria.
