Kipling was flying, but he didn't know where he was. He couldn't make out anything. After a while, shapes began to loom in the darkness, and Kipling was only just able to swerve to avoid them. Gradually, it got lighter, and Kipling began to recognize the terrain of the Tangled Wood. How did he get here? Kipling soon found himself in the ruins of what looked to have once been a great and bountiful kingdom. Kipling landed, his wings growing tired. He shivered. Was it always this cold in the Tangled Woods? He didn't remember it being like this when he was rescuing Eclipse. Perhaps he hadn't been able to may much mind to the climate in the chaos of everything. What even was this place? There was something unsettling about it. Kipling shivered, and not just from the cold. Suddenly, a large shape loomed out of the shadows, and Kipling leaped in surprise, ready to fly away. He could hear the rattling of bones and the whistling of an eerie tune. As the shape drew nearer, he recognized it as Sullene. The imperial grinned slightly as she saw him. "You've got to stop doing that!" Kipling explained, irritated she had frightened him again. "Hello, little one," Sullene laughed, "What are you doing here?" "Where even are we?" Kipling asked. "The Clan of Resting Wings, one of Sornieth's greatest disasters, and losses," Sullene sighed, "The royal family was assassinated by a band of rebels. In their attempts to escape, a spell was cast to save the remaining members. The curse has festered for years, growing stronger and ever more twisted. I have visited it many times in my dreams as of late. Something terrible must be about to happen here." "Do you never have any good dreams?" Kipling asked, suddenly feeling sorry for the imperial. "Never," Sullene admitted, "The day I have good dreams is the day when Sornieth is brought to complete peace. Such a day is impossible, so I accept my fate of wandering the eleven flights in hopes my warnings can change the fates to come." "Why am I here then? Am I dead?" Kipling asked. "I don't think so, little one. The dead appear differently in my dreams. Far less corporeal. Your appearance must mean something else," Sullene pondered. "Like what?" Kipling asked. "I'm not sure. I've never had dragons appear like this in my dreams before. This is something new." Sullene mused. "Maybe it's sign the danger has passed. Maybe we won!" Kipling suggested. "Wouldn't that be nice!" Sullene chuckled, "Do you not know?" Kipling shook his head, "The last thing I remember is being frozen in a block of ice." That would explain why he was so cold. "I failed." He realized, frills drooping. A lump formed in this throat. "What makes you say that?" Sullene asked, a look of surprise together. "You said I was the chosen one, but I wasn't there to fight. I got caught. For all I know I could be dead," Kipling explained. "Kipling, it wasn't destiny that chose you," Sullene explained, scooping up the fae and holding him close to her nose in comfort, "I chose you because I knew your heart was big enough to bring everyone together and fight. There is no such thing as true destiny, we always have a choice. Nothing is ever set in stone, the world is far more mysterious and miraculous than you'll ever know. That's why I always have hope, despite my dreams. I know even the darkest night can be turned around by the actions of the tiniest dragon. Look at what your mother has done, building Windkeep Tower! She has given dragons something many lack- a true home. A place where they can heal from their demons and face future challenges together- as a family. Every dragon has that power and potential in their choices." Kipling nodded sagely, taking in everything Sullene was telling him. He felt lighter, as if a great weight had been lifted off his chest. That was when he noticed everything was getting lighter. Sullene and the ruins were beginning to fade from view. The next thing he knew, he was blinking his eyes open to see Rubywing staring down at him. He was sitting in a half-melted ice block and he shivered. That was where the cold had come from. "Kipling! You're back! You're okay!" Ruby exclaimed, scooping him up and spinning him around in excitement. Kipling felt a bit dizzy, but he couldn't help but laugh. "What's happening? Is everyone alright?" As he was placed down, he caught sight of Rhowen, now appearing much more himself, and a sleek wildclaw he didn't recognize. Draxxor and Dremasul were here two, sizing up the melting ice blocks containing his parents. Dremasul was deep in concentration, as if trying to perform some difficult magic. "Everyone's fine! We won!" Ruby celebrated, "All that's left is waiting for your parents to melt! Dremasul's just working on ensuring their souls are in the right place, the ice put you all in some weird state of limbo." Kipling couldn't help it, he let out a whoop of victory and burst out of Ruby's grasp into a back-flip. Dizziness overtook him and he tumbled towards the ground. Just before he hit the floor, Rhowen caught him. "Maybe you should take things a little slow," The coatl suggested, "I am so sorry, for everything I've done to you and your parents." "Hey, we're okay, there's no harm done, right?" Kipling shrugged, "It's not like you had a choice, right?" "Actually, there was a lot of harm done-" Rhowen began before Dremasul cut him off. "But it's all in the past now. Someday, you will learn to make peace with your past and make up for it in the future. Past actions do not have to dictate your future," Dremasul reminded him, "Fenn and Elric are back to normal, they should be waking up soon." Kipling spun around, ready to face his parents. He squealed as he saw their eyes flicker open, and he ran to embrace them, not caring how cold they were. Upon seeing their son, Both dragons slowly pulled themselves to their feet, Elric scooping Fenn to sit on his head. Unbalanced, Kipling collided with his father's nose. He laughed, and scooped him up to join his mother. The two faes hugged, neither ready to let the other go. Fenn asked, blinking in surprise. "That is actually quite a long story," the lean wildclaw piped up, "And I don't even know all of it! My name is Sapphire, by the way. it is an honor to finally meet you both!" "Mom, we need to talk," Kipling said. After his conversation with Sullene, something was weighing heavily on his heart. "Definitely," Fenn's eyes sparkled, "We have a lot to catch up on, I'm just so glad you're home. But first, it is my duty to ensure everything is well with the clan." "Of course," Kipling nodded. His mother's heart first and foremost was and would always be the well-being of Windkeep Tower. That was what made her such a good queen. She would get back to him in time, he could accept that. The atmosphere of Windkeep Tower was mixed. They had won the war and reclaied their clan, but at a terrible price. Everyone knew Querida had a history with Quartz, but she had been greatly beloved by all. Her sacrifice would not soon be forgotten. Her funeral was held as the sun set over the cherry blossom grove. It was not as elegant or organized a ceremony as many would have hoped, the clan wanted to honor the dragon who had saved them. Before the ceremony, as dragons were gathering, Quartz and Desertstone's ashes had been released into the breeze with some words, but no one wanted to mourn the tyrant who caused all this pain. The turnout was tremendous. The whole of Windkeep Tower had gathered to mourn the loss of their fallen friend. Even Banella and her children gathered, sticking the fringes of the ceremony. No one questioned them, but no one could look at her either. Topaz was wearing a scowl, like he didn't want to be there, while Garnet watched the gathering dragons with intrigue. Banella's face was unreadable. New names had been etched into the stone since then, the names of Xinskarr's siblings and Zolean rested beneath Runeclaw's name. Tonight, a new name would join them. "Friends, family," Fenn announced, "Tonight, we gather to honor out fallen friend, Querida. She was a incredibly brave soul, with the heart of a lion. Her companionship with Tess the manticore was a reminder of that, though her actions speak for her courage and spirit as well. She sacrificed her life to save our clan. It is because of her that we have been freed from the tyrant, Quartz. But beyond that, she was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and friend to many in the tower. Her companionship and presence will be one missed by all. We have lost one of our family, but we must remember her heart. She died protecting the thing she cared about most- all of you. Remember her, next time you get into a disagreement with a neighbour, or welcome a stranger into your home, or help someone in need. Remember her caring heart and fierce spirit, refusing to back down or give up no matter the challenges." As she finished speaking, Fenn gestured to Dremasul. The wildclaw dipped his head, and pulled the lid of off a large jar. Fenn summoned her wind magic, and used it to lift Querida's ashes into the breeze. As soon as they were high enough, she let them go into the breeze. The clan watched in solemn silence as they blew away, guiding her spirit wherever it wished to rest. Suddenly for a moment, it appeared as if another figure was flying with her, a cream wildclaw with green wings. Oriel gasped, her hands rising to cover her mouth as her old love turned to wink at the others. He would keep her safe. @Petall Maaaaann, I entered this chapter feeling glum (especially when I saw the title), and then Sulleeeeeeennnee! XD As always, her interactions with Kipling are pure gold. And I'm so glad he's together with his family again!

Querida's funeral was beautifully described. I'll also be sorry to see Tess go; she was such a cool character. It's interesting that Topaz has stuck around, though. I imagine things will be a lot more awkward for him from now on.

I couldn't resist the opportunity to bring her back!

I'm glad you enjoyed the funeral! I was sad to see Tess go too, but it felt natural

India and Romilda were preparing to host those that didn't feel ready to return home to their suites, so everyone could grieve in the company of others. Rori's face lit up as she saw him, and she leaped to her feet to give him a hug, almost knocking over a neighbouring table with her tail in the process. "Hey!" Kipling exclaimed, feeling warmth spread throughout his body. He hadn't realized it would be so good to see her again. "Hey Kip!" Luster called out, giving his friend a toothy grin. Kipling rushed over to hug his friend, then settled down on the table. He was too small to reach the imperial-sized table from a chair. "It's good to see you both!" Kipling exclaimed. He couldn't resist doing another back-flip in his excitement. "Is there room for two more?" Eclipse said, walking up to the table. With her was a wildclaw Kipling recognized, but had never actually met. Kipling exclaimed, "The more the merrier! Pull up a chair!" The dragons around the table shifted to make room for the newcomers. Kipling fluttered from his place on the table to settle into Rori's mane between her antlers. It was comforting, finding his usual place on her head again. Nestled here in the warmth of his friend, the horrors of his frozen prison seemed far off. A fire cackled in a fireplace nearby. Everything was perfect. "Thank you, Quaid wasn't quite ready to join his family," Eclipse said as she settled down. The wildclaw nodded, clearly looking like he was holding back tears. "So," Quaid sniffed, regaining his composure, "Eclipse tells me you three are the resident trouble makers of Windkeep Tower!" "Oh, is that what we are?" Rori grinned, casting a playful look at Luster. "What?" Luster exclaimed, feigning offense, "I didn't say anything! Our reputation speaks for itself!" Quaid's face cracked into a smile, "Could you use another pair of hands? Of course, I travel with my parent regularly, but if you need anything from abroad-" "Of course!" Kipling exclaimed, "We'd be happy to have you! After all, a friend of Eclipse's is a friend of ours!" The five dragons spent the hours together, laughing, drinking and sharing their stories of the rebellion. Quaid soon seemed to have forgotten his grief for his sister, and Kipling was glad to have been able to bring joy to the grieving brother. There would always be more time to mourn, when he was ready. For tonight, he could dine among friends. After a while, the conversation dwindled as the exhaustion from their experiences that day caught up with them. The fire in the hearth continued to cackle, casting a sleepy warmth over the dragons. "Oh! There's Cattail! I should go talk to her!" Luster exclaimed, downing the last of his drink and scooting his chair away so he could hop down to pursue the bogsneak. The squeak of the chair against the floorboards roused Kipling from his half-slumber. He and Rori lifted their heads to watch their friend go. "He still hasn't given up on her?" Kipling asked, shaking his head. "Well, you know Luster, he never likes to admit defeat," Rori laughed, "Besides, love is like that." Kipling felt heat rise to his face and his heart seemed to leap from his chest. He suddenly remembered Rori's comment after Yuu had hatched. Now that the danger of the war had passed, his feelings seemed much more imminent, and much more terrifying. "Quaid, we should go," Eclipse suddenly said, nudging the wildclaw awake and rising to her feet. She cast a knowing gaze at Rori and Kipling, and the two dragons left swiftly. Kipling felt even more warm, he had forgotten about the skydancer ability to read emotions. Now he would have to face his feelings. Taking a deep breath, he slid down Rori's snout, coming to rest on the end of her nose, so he could look into her eyes. His tail hung over her nostrils and he could feel his tail swaying evenly in her warm breath. "Was it scary, being trapped in the ice?" Rori asked after what felt like ages, taking the leap to break the silence. "Honestly? I don't remember much of it," Kipling admitted, "It was kind of like I was asleep." "I didn't even know you were gone," Rori admitted, "I feel like a terrible friend. When I found out where you had been-" "Hey, you were caught up in your own things. Banella went back in time right before I was frozen, there's no way you could have known," Kipling reassured. "I know, but it's scary thinking about how close I was to losing you," Rori breathed. her words hung in the air between them, carrying some unspoken weight. Kipling knew now was the time. "Rori, I-" Kipling took a deep breath. How was he going to say this? What if he had read the signals wrong. He felt a wave of panic wash over him, but then he looked into her golden eyes, and their warmth calmed him. "Rori, I think you're the most amazing dragon I've ever met. You are my best friend, I honestly don't know what I'd do without you and-" Kipling swallowed, conjuring the nerve to finish, "And I think I love you." Rori stared at him wide eyed. His anxiety flared again as Rori took in his words, not responding. Had he said something wrong? "I love you too," She said at last, and a wave of relief washed over Kipling, "I just- I didn't think you felt the same way. I was worried that you and Eclipse-" "What? No! Never!" Kipling exclaimed in surprise, "I mean, she's great and all, and she's my friend, but Rori, it's always been you." "Really?" Rori asked, and Kipling could feel her breath catch within. "Yes, from the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were special. It may have taken me some time to figure out what all these feelings were, but I want nothing more than to live the rest of my life by your side, going on more adventures and seeing where life takes us." Kipling admitted. "I want that to," Rori purred, eyes glowing with joy and love, "But what about your destiny? Aren't you Windkeep Tower's heir? Won't your royal duties get in the way of adventure?" "Actually, I talked to my parents about that," Kipling said, "After all the time with the resistance, and seeing the choices Winterstone had to make, I realized that's not me. I don't want to lead a clan. And you know what? My mom said that she didn't even take me in with the intention of making me heir, she and my dad took me in because I was a lost hatchling in need of a family. They will be choosing an heir, to solidify their leadership in case something goes wrong, but it won't be me. I'm free to live the life I choose to live. And I choose living a life with you, wherever that takes us." Rori smiled, and seeing her smile made Kipling's heart leap. Rori rested her head on the table once more. Kipling climbed back up her face to return to his spot in her mane. He couldn't believe he had actually done it, and now the two of them were going to spend their lives together. He couldn't wait to see what adventures the future would hold. Luster winked as he slid beside Cattail at the bar counter. The bogsneak rolled her eyes and took a drink from her cup. "What do you want Luster?" Cattail grunted. "I just wanted to talk to you again, now that everything has- passed." Luster explained, dropping his charming charade. "Look, I'm sorry about everything before, I shouldn't have been that cold, but Quartz had been breathing down our backs, and those undead warriors gave me the shivers," Cattail admitted, "But Luster, I don't know if we're anything that's actually going to work. We're too different, you and I, and I don't want you messing with the integrity of my business." "Can I at least try to woo you?" Luster asked, wiggling his eyebrows, "You know, I have my heart set on you, and I was able to do it once before." Cattail shook her head, laughing, "Luster, you are quite possibly the most persistent dragon I have ever met." "But is it working?" Luster asked, "I know you like me, don't try to deny it!" "What the heck, let's give it a go," Cattail shook her head, giving Luster a rare smile, "But I'm not making any promises here! I reserve the rights to call off this relationship at any point for any reason whatsoever. I still don't trust you, but you intrigue me, so I'm willing to explore this option." "Yes!" Luster exclaimed, jumping into the air and almost losing his filigree. "You know your filigree's dented. You should get it fixed. What were you doing in that battle?" Cattail asked. "I don't know what you're talking about!" Luster exclaimed, "My filigree is genuine!" "Luster, you're not getting me to lick your filigree," Cattail said, clearly unimpressed. "Aw man, it was worth a shot," Luster clicked in disappointment, shaking his head. "Just what am I getting myself into?" Cattail asked, leaning further onto the counter, "I think I need another drink." It had felt weird, returning to his room in the mansion, but he hadn't wanted to disturb Dremasul and Draxxor as their mourned. He hadn't known Querida, so he felt he'd be intruding by attending their gathering. He had almost forgotten what had happened the night before as he got out of bed. His heart sank as he stared at his overly ornate surroundings. Then he remembered. They had won. His father was dead. He didn't know how he felt about his father's death. It left him strangely empty. He had hated his father, for ignoring him, for everything he had done to hurt the dragons who actually cared about Sapphire, but it was still strange to think of him gone. He wasn't sad, but he wasn't happy either. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and he swung it open to see Nymph. He recognized her from the meeting in the Underground where they planed their strategy for the battle. "Hey, kiddo!" Nymph exclaimed, "I'm taking over courier duties for the next little while with Oriel and Rammus mourn. I have a message for you." The nocturne stopped to pull a scroll out of her bag. She handed it the Sapphire, then turned and flew away down the corridor. After watching her go, Sapphire turned and opened the scroll, sitting down to read it. Fenn and Elric had invited him to a meeting with them. He couldn't imagine what this could be about. Not wanting to waste any time, he dashed out of his room and began to make his way to the royal suite. When he knocked on the door, Elric opened it. "Ah, Sapphire! It's great to see you again!" Elric said with a smile as he ushered the wildclaw in, "Come this way, Fenn is waiting for you." It was a little strange, walking through the place that had been his father's office, but was now a home. He supposed this was the way it was always supposed to be. Elric led his down the hall until they reached a room opening up to a balcony. The door was open, and a fresh breeze filled the room while Fenn sipped her tea and offered Sapphire a pastry. Having not had breakfast, Sapphire took one. "You wanted to see me?" Sapphire asked after taking a bite of his treat. "Yes, Sapphire. I have heard many great things from you from Draxxor, Dremasul and Ruby," Fenn said with a smile, "They told me how much heart you but into making this rebellion happen and putting plans into action. Not to mention, you helped to save Elric and I and our son from the ice." "I did what I had to do, I saw what my parents were doing and it wasn't right, that's all it was," Sapphire mumbled, dipping his head awkwardly and stirring the tea Elric handed him. He suddenly became very interested in how the liquid swirled inside. "Not just any dragon could have done that. You are smart, courageous, and most of all, you value not only the safety of others, but also their well-being," Fenn observed, "That is why we would like to offer you the position of Prince of Windkeep Tower, and name you our heir." "I don't know what to say!" Sapphire said, taken aback. "You don't have to say anything right now. Take you time with this decision. You don't need to make it right away, and I want to make it clear there is absolutely no pressure to take it," Fenn explained, "But if you want it, the position is yours." "I don't know-" Sapphire opened his mouth to respond, but Fenn cut him off. "Think about it. I know this is a lot of take in, I don't want a decision like this to be rushed," Fenn reassured, "I'm here if you have any questions." "Thank you," Sapphire breathed. He took another bite of his pastry. "No need to rush," Fenn told him, "You can take your time. Why don't you tell me what it was like, growing up." Tea with Fenn and Elric turned into lunch with Fenn and Elric, and their conversation spread well into the afternoon. Sapphire couldn't help but have an immense level of respect for the couple, and the more he got to know them, the more he was convinced he wanted to learn from them. This is what leadership was supposed to be like, not the power-trip his parents had been on. As the sun began to set, Sapphire realized it was time to head home. As he said his goodbyes, he realized he knew exactly what his decision was. "I'll do it." ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @Alwaid @zzzhorses @Amezrou @ScrivenerRook @Kizzan @clarax @lilastar @tigressRising @Disillusionist @Aetherstorm @rainphee @FallenEclipse @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @ShinyDecidueye @AlchemyFox @demitri ----- Now I can start wrapping up everything! Chapter 148: Together Again

49062279_350.png

After the funeral, Kipling followed the crowd moving towards the Copper Lotus. India and Romilda were preparing to host those that didn't feel ready to return home to their suites, so everyone could grieve in the company of others. The Amberlyn family and those that were closest to Querida were having their own private gathering at Amberlyn's.

Kipling couldn't believe she was actually gone. Who was going to stop Simon from getting him and his friends in trouble now?

It was a silly thought, really. Much had changed after the war. He felt older, and his escapades as a younger dragon seemed far off. Perhaps someday he could return to that level of carefree fun again, but not tonight.

As he entered in the tavern, after most of the crowd has entered, he was pleased to see that Rori and Luster had already snagged a table. Kipling fluttered over to them, a smile spreading across his face. Though it hadn't felt like he'd been stuck in the ice very long, he knew lots had happened since the last time he had seen his friends.

"Kipling!" Rori's face lit up as she saw him, and she leaped to her feet to give him a hug, almost knocking over a neighbouring table with her tail in the process.

"Of course!" Kipling exclaimed, "The more the merrier! Pull up a chair!"

The dragons around the table shifted to make room for the newcomers.

"So," Quaid sniffed, regaining his composure, "Eclipse tells me you three are the resident trouble makers of Windkeep Tower!"

"Oh, is that what we are?" Rori grinned, casting a playful look at Luster.

"What?" Luster exclaimed, feigning offense, "I didn't say anything! Our reputation speaks for itself!"

Quaid's face cracked into a smile, "Could you use another pair of hands? Of course, I travel with my parent regularly, but if you need anything from abroad-"

"Of course!" Kipling exclaimed, "We'd be happy to have you! After all, a friend of Eclipse's is a friend of ours!"

The five dragons spent the hours together, laughing, drinking and sharing their stories of the rebellion. Quaid soon seemed to have forgotten his grief for his sister, and Kipling was glad to have been able to bring joy to the grieving brother. There would always be more time to mourn, when he was ready. The fire in the hearth continued to cackle, casting a sleepy warmth over the dragons.

@Petall That was a lovely installment! Everything about it was so great, from Kipling and Rori confessing their feelings for each other, Eclipse and Quaid pairing off, and Sapphire being the new heir! I suspect he might have some difficulty, though; I get the feeling some dragons might not look too kindly upon a son of Quartz and Banella being in that position. My favorite scene in this chapter was the interaction between Luster and Cattail, though! The dialogue was just...wow. I especially like how they negotiated with each other; now that's something I understand. xDD I'm excited to see what's next for your clan! Looking forward to the next chapter!

@Disillusionist

It was such a fun one to write! It's so satisfying to wrap up loose ends at the end of a story, so I am certainly enjoying writing these interactions! I'm glad you are enjoying them as well! Rori and Kipling especially I've been dying to get together for a while!

Also, I'm happy you like Sapphire as the heir! When I started out, I totally intended Kipling to be the heir all along and for him to realize his destiny as he's out adventuring and saving the clan, and then I looked at him and realized being king isn't really his thing, and that Sapphire was really deserving of it. Also, the satisfaction of him gaining what his siblings desired after them ignoring him for so long made it seem symbolically fitting as well!

As merchants, negotiation is their strong suit! XD

It had been years since Banella had been in here, and she was almost disgusted by the amount of dust and cobwebs covering surface, or at least she would have been had they not contributed to the dark, gothic feel of the place. "This is it?" Topaz wrinkled his nose in disgust as he surveyed his surroundings. It was quite the change from living in the luxury of Quartz's mansion. "Hush, don't complain," Banella snapped. "We have to work with what we've got. if you remain bitter about this, you are going to live a miserable, unhappy life." "Are we on the same floor as the warriors suites?" Garnet asked excitedly, pressing an ear to the far wall. She could hear the clink of metal as weapons were being moved around on the other side. "Yes, the noisy brutes," Banella rolled her eyes, "Quite the misfortune." "Can I go join them?" Garnet asked. "Can you what?" Banella was taken aback. "I want to improve myself. That seems to be the place to go if I want to get stronger," Garnet's eyes lit up as she spoke. Banella had never seen her daughter speak with such excitement. "Yes, fine! Go! You are not a child anymore it is not my place to keep you anywhere! goodness knows where your youngest brother got off too," Banella responded. "Rumor has it he's been named heir of Windkeep Tower," Topaz said, sullenly. "He's what!?" Banella was shocked. One of her children had actually done it? Did she actually have a legacy? An actual, proper legacy? She turned to look at her elder children. They showed promise too. Garnet certainly was powerful in her elemental magic and was sure to go on to do great things. Topaz, on the other hand, was intelligent and charismatic when he wanted to be, but as of late had developed a nasty attitude. To her growing horror, she was realizing he was growing more and more like her every day, with all her faults and shortcomings. Banella felt a warmth fill her chest. She had accomplished something for once. Maybe this was her future. Not the theatre, not as a queen, but perhaps she had to lie with her strengths. Her parents had always said she would make a great advisor. She had always taken that as an insult, a stab in the back after being denied the throne, but perhaps they had a point. Maybe her strengths did lie in supporting others from the shadows, less leading in the spotlight. Now she just had to figure out what she was going to do with that. But first, she had to re-earn Windkeep Tower's shaky trust in her. That would be far more difficult a task. "Why does Sapphire get the throne! You promised me someday I'd be the greatest king in Sornieth!" Topaz huffed, "Now I have to live in this dump? You said I'm part of a lineage of kings and queen! Are we ignoring that power now?!" "Hush Topaz, there is more to life than ruling over others. Our time is over, it's time to leave the past in the past, and build our own futures," Banella told her son. She hoped it would get through to him, but if he was anything like she was, he would be too stubborn to accept it. It was something he would have to find out for himself. Magiere spat at Simon. She had been struggling to find her place in Windkeep Tower again after her bitter defeat. She refused to go back to Lin, and now that Raizel had returned the circus sure wouldn't take her. "You fought on Quartz's side!" Simon snarled, "With full knowledge of your actions! How dare you come slinking back here like nothing every happened!" "You can trust me, Simon, believe me, you have my full loyalty," Magiere said, moving closer and staring into the imperial's furious green eyes. "I just lost my wife, your flirting won't get me anywhere!" Simon growled, "Also, I know you Magiere. You follow power wherever it goes, what's to say you won't follow it against us next time we face a powerful opponent?" "Give me a chance to prove myself at least!" Magiere whined. "You've had enough chances," Simon said darkly, "If you know what's good for you, you'll leave Windkeep Tower now, and find somewhere else to go." "But-" "Just go Magiere. You aren't wanted here anymore." Simon growled, and Magiere saw there was no use convincing him otherwise. She left, determined to find herself somewhere where she would be appreciated for her talents, not shunned. Nova sat on a pile of cushions in the center of the room, meeting his gaze evenly. "How could you do something like this?" He questioned, "How could you betray me like this! I thought you loved me!" "Oh, Ivorn, love is a fickle, foolish thing. You didn't really think I'd stay once you proved you'd rather live as a pauper than a prince when given the chance," Nova challenged. "I have loyalty to a cause, Nova, something you clearly lack," Ivorn growled. "You know what? I'm done with this! I'm done with you! You care for nothing but riches, I see that now. I don't care where you go or what you do, just get out of my sight. We are done." Nova didn't need to be told twice. She gracefully rose to her feet, sipping the last of her tea, and sauntered out of the suite. She glanced back at Ivorn as she went. "You're going to regret this," She purred. "Just you wait." "Try me," Ivorn spat back. The door clicked closed behind Nova and he slumped to the ground. He had really loved her, but just like all the others, it seemed like that relationship had come to an end. It was worth it, he told himself, to see Fenn and Elric back safe and sound, but he couldn't help but feel empty nonetheless. Seeing as I am so hyped about it, I may as well announce it now, I'm too excited to wait! My pinkerlocke clan (which will probably start late next week) is taking place in the cursed ruins of the once great kingdom (which originally belonged to CleverDual). Getting this map has gotten me all the more excited about starting that new project, but I have to hold of for about 3 more chapters before I start really getting into brainstorming, because there are still other dragons to check in with before the Stories of Windkeep Tower is officially wrapped up!

@Petall I was pretty excited for the next chapter, and this did not disappoint! Honestly, I'm glad Banella is retaining much of her drama and nastiness. It's going to take a while for all that to disappear, despite her change of heart, and it'll be interesting to see how she'll reconcile both her bitterness and her new view of things. Her assessment of her kids is really intriguing, too: There seems to be more hope for Garnet, but will Topaz learn faster than his mother did or...? I'd been worrying about Simon; I hope the poor guy can find happiness again. [emoji=guardian sad size=1] Ivorn and Nova too, wow. I confess, I'd been holding out some hope for Nova...though ngl, this is also juicy as heck. xD I imagine Sirrush will go "[emoji=pearlcatcher scared size=1]!!!" when the news reaches him.
