In the epic world of Celumbra, two kingdoms war with one another--The Fire Mint Kingdom and the Dark Spine Kingdom. The Dark Spine Kingdom wishes to control all of Celumba: its resources, artifacts, powers, and creatures. Its ruthless and cunning monarch will stop at nothing to be the most powerful being in Celumbra. The Fire Mint Kingdom wants nothing more than to maintain peace and a healthy balance, forced to defend itself from the Dark Spine Kingdom. For five years, it seemed that the war was evenly-matched between the two kingdoms and their armies.

However, something happened in the sixth year--something terrible. The Dark Spine King and his armies have traveled to the isolated Dragon Isles, where the dragons have lived in peace and prosperity, away from humans and their war. But the Dark Spine King and his soldiers have forced the dragons into slavery and servitude through the use of magical crystals called Parasite Gems, embedded in leather control collars. Now with dragon kind under his control, the Dark Spine King uses his new dragon army to end the war. And the Fire Mint Kingdom is pressed and struggling to win the war.

The Kingdoms:

Fire Mint Kingdom is a kingdom to the very north. It is a land that is ruled by the Fire Mint King and Queen. Set within a mountain valley, it is bordered by forests. Several small towns and villages are scattered across the country. Its capital is the Red City. It also receives its name from the abundant herb--the fire mint. The fire mint has orange flowers and dark green leaves, nutritional, healthy, and spicy.

Dark Spine Kingdom is a kingdom to the very south. It is a land that is ruled by the Dark Spine King. Set within the southern plains, it is bordered by mineral deposits and boulders and rocks and tall grass. Several small towns and villages lay about the country. Its capital is the Black City. It receives its name from the a poisonous plant called the dark spine. The dark spine has dark green leaves, purple berries, and thorns. The dark spine berry juice is often doused over bladed weapons or used to taint someone's food.

Parasite Gems--are gems that are found only on the coasts of the Dark Spine Kingdom in deposits. They are yellowish green or dark blue in color and are strong enough to control dragons body, but not its mind. The Dark Spine King has also found a way to use these gems by creating control collars.

Control collars--are specially made collars that fit dragons. They work on voice command from any Dark Spine soldier.

Fergus growled in rage at the report that the courier delivered. The lad had explained that the Dark Spine King had found a way to win the war. The ******* promised that he would win the war after five years someway. He hadn't believed the Dark Spine King nor would he start any time soon. Fergus wanted to end the war and maintain balance in peace in Celumbra, but the Dark Spine King refused to listen at all. Peace was a foreign word to the ruthless man.

As he leaned back on his throne, Fergus combed his fingers through his thick red beard, mulling over the Dark Spine King's message: Dragons arise from the islands under our command. Surrender or die. For five years, they had known the dragons existed in the world, but they were too busy warring to give the intelligent creatures much thought. However, now, his enemy had somehow bent the dragons to his will and was using them as weapons to lay siege to Fire Mint Kingdom.

In the day before, one of the villages south of Red City had been destroyed. Some people had made it out alive. The rest, unfortunately, were burned along with the buildings and the structures in two hours by one dragon, ridden by a Dark Spine soldier. It had been so quick, so efficient, and so devastating that he was caught off guard by it.
=============================

The dragon roared in agony as pain rippled through his body. He tossed his massive head back and forth, trying to fight it, but the control collar and the Parasite Gem was too much. He wanted to slash the pitiful human where he stood, but he couldn't. All he could do was endure the torture.

All of it was for refusing to fight. The male didn't want to destroy his own kind for the sake of the Dark Spine soldiers' entertainment. No, he wasn't going to let them put him to shame and humiliation for their twisted thrills. He would continue to resist and think on his own.

More and more pain flowed through this scarred and thick grey body. His yellow eyes narrowed to slits. His gaze focused on the Dark Spine soldier before him, dressed in the black and purple armor. A smug filled the man's face. The dragon wanted to claw that look off his face so badly.

"This is what happens when you don't listen to what I say, beast," the soldier scoffed. "Disobey orders, and pain is your only reward."

"The next time you disobey my orders, I will make it worse for you, beast," the Dark Spine soldier warned. He then shifted his gaze across the plains. Pelagon followed his gaze, wondering who it was that he had seen. Pelagon's heart sank. The soldier had spotted two figures.

One of the figures looked to be a human. He was sure of that. The other figure was also distinguishable. He felt a tinge of sadness and remorse. There was no denying the dragon that accompanied the human. And in all of his years in bondage to the Dark Spine Army, he knew that if an uncollared dragon had been found, it would be caught and forced into submission through the Parasite Gems.

Pelagon hoped that he could help the dragon before it was too late, but the soldier was already making plans. The man looked at Pelagon with a dark smile.

"What a lucky day this will be. A new dragon. Once it has been tamed, it shall join our ranks." He moved towards Pelagon and climbed into the saddle strapped to the dragon's back. "Onward. Get to that dragon and don't let it out of your sights and don't try anything foolish. Go. Now!"

Pelagon nodded and unfurled his great wings. He took to the skies without a sound and flew towards SpiritChaser and Jennifer. With his strong wing beats, he zoomed through the sky quickly. His mind raced with panicked thoughts. He couldn't let the dragon end up like him but he didn't want to endure pain from the Parasite Gem in his collar. When he reached the spot, he landed with a muffled thump behind Spirit and Jennifer. As soon as he touched down, he knew it was worse. It was a female and a beautiful one--in his eyes.

The Dark Spine soldier climbed down and looked to Jennifer. "You! Where did you get that dragon from?"

@Onyxgallant (( I'm glad you didn't. Maybe if you put "open" in the title more people will check it out. You're welcome! It's an interesting plot. ))

Spiritchaser turned, A noise? When she turned her head she met the yellow eyes of another dragon and it's rider. Locking eyes with the dragon, she tried to understand his motives. Noticing the collar around his neck her muscles stiffened and she let out a hiss of warning flicking her tail nervously.

"You! Where did you get that dragon from?" yelled the soldier.

Jennifer yanked her bow and an arrow from their resting place and spun on the man. Arrow drawn and ready to fire she saw who stood before her. Oh dear God, it's a soldier! I'll be killed for this! Obviously she didn't realize until she turned who she'd just drawn an arrow against. Her jaw slackened slightly until she regained her bearings. Still keeping the arrow drawn and ready to fire she answered the question, "None of your business." She said this firmly, but with some respect. After all she didn't want to be killed. She noticed her dragon was staring down the soldier's dragon and hoped it would be enough to make them leave.

"As a soldier of the Dark Spine Army," the man said, glaring at Jennifer. "I make it my business to know about the happenings in the southern kingdom. Any dragon that is found in this kingdom will be put in a control collar and must serve the kingdom in the war. As for you, girl, you either join the army or leave for your homestead. Now, surrender your dragon."

"Don't. Run." Pelagon hissed looking at Spirit Chaser and Jennifer. "Get away while you can."

Pelagon roared in pain. Bolts of energy flashed through the dark blue gem through his control collar. He staggered. The soldier was manipulating the collar with his thoughts and the dragon could see it on the man's face.

"What did I say about disobeying orders?!" The man growled, looking at Pelagon. He then turned to Jennifer and Spirit Chaser. "Your dragon would make a good addition to the breeding stock even help boost my companion's confidence and loyalty."

Pelagon wanted to kill that man, staring at the soldier.

Pelagon wanted to kill that man, staring at the soldier.
Glaring at the soldier she stood her ground, "Tch! You can take her over my dead body!" Arrow still pulled back and at the ready she watched the man's movements. If he moved, she'd kill him. She had done it a year or so ago when one so called soldier tried to take Spirit.

Suddenly the large male dragon spoke, "Don't. Run. Getaway while you can." After he spoke the soldier did something. It made the dragon roar in agony. He then yelled at the dragon.

SpiritChaser's jaw dropped and she suddenly found herself wanting to help this dragon. This dragon that was trying to save them even though he'd just laid eyes on them. She roared at the man and stamped her claws into the ground. The stance she took behind Jennifer made her look like an enraged, cornered wolf. Hissing loudly, she threatened the human male, "Do that again and I'll tare you apart!" Lips curling, her hiss turned into an intimidating snarl.

This enraged Jennifer as well when she saw the soldier hurt the dragon. "I'll never join you thugs!" She spat at the man's feet and waited. SpiritChaser and she could take this cruel man and maybe even remove the collar to free the dragon. Well, she hoped.

@Onyxgallant (( The parasitic collars can be removed right? ))
