Overview

Magic is an ancient and not well understood. Often hiding in the shadows, only recently has it surfaced, earning with it mixed reactions. Governments everywhere scrambled to create laws and regulations, and it didn’t take long for an ancient magic hunting organization to resurface - the Templar Order. They were quickly able to influence world governments and largely restrict the usage of magic across the globe.

They weren’t able to completely restrict it, however. Safe havens sprung up, areas for magical beings to live, work, and hide. This included a few schools- notably Clayton Academy. Situated in Northwestern Oregon, an area that is somewhat of a magical hotspot, its a bit of a fortified haven for magical creatures of all kinds. The Templar have yet to crack these sorts of safe haven, not for lack of trying, and Clayton Academy is the target of their latest attempt.

Clayton Academy is known for admitting young magic users and teaching them how to use their unique talents. The Templar have been secretly accumulating a group of magical children and are enlisting them into the school as a way to infiltrate it from the inside. They hope to have the intel they need by the summer solstice, and the staff at the school need to root the Templar moles out before then.
The School

Clayton Academy is very advanced for its kind. Rumors have circled that it’s been around for much longer than the resurfacing of magic, but the staff won’t confirm or deny these rumors. There is a school uniform - A purple blazer with a gold trim, along with a seal with the school mascot on it (a gryphon) and either white slacks and dress shoes or a white skirt and dress shoes. Students can choose to wear whatever plain shirt they want under the blazer, although long sleeved dress shirts are preferred. Students can request uniform modifications if needed, and students with uncontrolled powers will be granted inhibitors to use to prevent accidental outbursts.

These inhibitors take many forms - gloves, bracelets, rings, amulets, and pretty much whatever else works for the student. Inhibitors will be required at different times based on why the student needs them. Some students will require inhibitors at all times except designated usage times, some students will only require them during specific classes, and so forth. It is a situational item that gets assigned as needed. Inhibitors don’t completely repress magic, just dampen it to a manageable amount that allows for easier control.

Most classes are run during the day, but nocturnal students do have accommodations that allow them to take classes and tests at night (for the purposes of this RP I would appreciate most students having classes during the day for interaction, although tests can be taken at the times needed.) Classes themselves have a more open setup, especially the ones focusing on magic usage. “Normal” classes like math, science, English, etc are offered, but are not the focus of the RP - we’ll be focusing more on the more fun classes that focus on actually using magic (although if y’all wanted to focus on the normal people classes we can haha.)

Students also share dorms with one another - if any student has a specific requirements for their dorm mates then they can advise staff and accommodations will be made. There is a tuition to cover the cost of food, housing, etc, but most students do have scholarships that assist with the cost of tuition.

Hoo boy, these guys are real Pieces of Work. They have changed names and fronts over the ages, but they’ve always been dedicated to eradicating magic. They’ve changed tactics from time to time, going from witchhunts to waging wars, and more recently, using more subtle tactics like invading governing bodies and attempting to find a “cure” for magic rather than outright killing everyone who has it.

Typically, once someone is indicted into the organization, they’re in for life. There are a few exceptions, but you can’t just retire out or quit the organization. The Templar aren’t keen on letting secrets potentially leak.

Currently the Templar are experimenting on a cure for magic - they have entered into the early testing stages and have been performing these tests on various subjects, but it’s not super widespread at this point yet.

He’s also able to turn others by giving his blood with the intent to turn you, whether it’s applied to a wound or ingested doesn't matter. Since it’s going to be more prevalent with Scarificator, he can kinda mimic the voices of other people, but not perfectly since Blood Wyvern’s voices have a slight raspy quality to them (a vocal cord thing) but other than that they have rather clear and easy to understand speaking voices… This mimicry often happens unintentionally while talking to other people. Scar can also mimic sounds decently well, including various birds, gunshots, and that noise a geiger counter makes (but by no means are these the only ones he can do). [*][b]Bite of Pain or Pleasure[/b]: Scarificator inherited this trait from one of his parents, as occasionally Blood Wyverns have some sort of effect tied to their bite that can be beneficial… Though never is it anything truly toxic. In Scar’s case it’s more observable when he’s in a more human form but it is present regardless of form. Scar can choose to have more than just the vaguely painless bite that is the species norm (as in, yes it hurts, but if you don’t struggle it’s really not that bad and feels more weird than painful.) He can release a ‘venom’ from his fangs that contains a strong euphoriant, comparable to some harder drugs if they were to be given in bare minimum doses. While useful for hiding the true nature of what is occurring to an unaware victim, this can become somewhat addictive to the victim due to the nature of the function. Thus meaning it could become a rather deadly addiction or create a very awkward situation. Scarificator’s early life was pretty normal for his kind, being a more wild and intelligent predator… Learning human speech from preying on them. What got his curiosity towards humans started was an incident when he was 15-16 where he was originally going to eat a pair of humans he found near a woodland path, drawn in by the scent of blood from a wound. Only to see the other person tie a cloth around the injury. So instead of attacking the humans, Scar came out and in a rather blunt fashion (due to having limited vocabulary) started to ask questions about why someone would wrap a wound and why you’d help a ‘hopeless’ case. He got a few answers and had to ask what a few things meant before instead of eating the pair he tore off the tourniquet and licked the wound to encourage it to heal and left the humans alone for the rest of the night. This started a year or two long quest for Scarificator to try and not only expand his vocabulary of human words, but to also figure out how to look more like one to learn more about them… And secretly have easier access to prey. It was a terrifying time to be a traveler in his locale as he’d randomly roll up on people and start talking, sometimes eating them, usually for not responding. When Scar was about 17, he finally got the ear of a mage that was willing to teach him how to do a minor shapeshifting spell and a few glamours along with it. With this knowledge and a much wider vocabulary he ran off to the nearest human settlement and approached the local healer… This is also how he got his name, as he was incredibly curious about each tool, but one in particular had quite a bit of his attention due to the smell of blood that clung to it. Scar asked what it was called and decided he liked the object and the word thus named himself for it, [b]Scarificator[/b] sure the healer thought he was weird as all hell but accepted it since it seemed pretty harmless. Scarificator proceeded to learn more about medicine from the healer while also doing a few underhanded things, mostly in the form of being slightly too thrilled about bloodletting and overusing it a bit, but due to the time it wasn’t really noticed. During this time Scar learned a bit of nature magic, in the form of plant growth, to help with the creation of more herbal remedies. For a few years he did fine as the healer’s assistant, but it started to become abundantly clear that Scarificator was going to outlive his ‘mentor’ and he was a little freaked out when he saw the sort of pain and suffering a 80 year old human had… And from his perspective Scar thought he was doing the old man an act of kindness when he drained him during the night, as it seemed more humane to end the suffering quicker. This however left him feeling more guilty and horrible than like he’d done anybody a favor… Yet Scarificator’s mind didn’t really know how to process grief properly due to it not really being a thing his species did yet being aware of human emotions at the same time. This caused him to within hours of committing a murder for the first time in a few years, proceed to do an autopsy on the body to try and figure out why his former human friend had been in pain… Only to find nothing that was easily identifiable as the cause for pain since Scar didn’t know about things like arthritis or joint pains due to the time period and not being able to experience such things himself. Within the same day, Scarificator was forced to flee from the town as he was caught trying to bury the body. The only thing he took with him was the scarificator that inspired his name, more as a keepsake really. For quite a while Scar bounced between towns, usually being a more questionable doctor at worst and a decent one at best, as he was trying to improve and learn more, he even took up biology to try and understand humans a bit better, to prevent another tragic misunderstanding from happening again. Scarificator started picking up on random bits of magic here and there, doing a little in his spare time, when he wasn’t lurking around colleges to stealthily listen to lessons or seeing if he could just act like he went there to get in for free… As he couldn’t afford the pay… Or trying to help the sick and injured the best he could. One of the more notable things for this span of time is that Scarificator helped out during both the world wars (Allies) and even helped with the Spanish flu outbreak that happened between them, and saw some sh-t man… As the wars confused him at first, then scared him with how horrible humans could be to each other, Scar was only a medic both times and had to kill just to protect others. Not long after the the wars died down, Scar moved to america and due to becoming more ‘professional’ due to being enlisted in two wars and helping during a pandemic, had the funds to pay for a college education that was more or less just him paying to get a diploma in things he mostly knew already, but he did use it to become a biology teacher and eventually teach medicine as well. Scarificator started out teaching middle school science and worked his way up to being a college professor over the course of a few years and becoming one of the oldest professors there, due to the fact that at this point, nobody is really certain how long he has been there and they’re afraid to ask at this point. He’s pretty well liked among those who have had him as a teacher, be it a biology subject or a medical one, as he has tons of weird stories and is more than willing to do something just out of pure curiosity. Tbh probably what got him to stop pretending to be a human so much and go teach at Clayton was that he didn’t want to violently reveal what he was if the Templar rolled up or to feel responsible if anyone that wasn’t involved got hurt. For a bit of extra context, the last time Scar killed someone was over spring break at his former college, he’d gotten found out by a Templar/Inquisition (vamp hunters) merger over the course of the year and they chose to strike when he went out hunting in the on campus woods. He didn’t even truly shift to easily and quite brutally [i]devour[/i] the Templar/Inquisition agents, making a mess out of his kills more out of the sheer offense of being attacked on his home turf if you will. Personality: Scarificator is a really odd person, he’s overly curious about things people do and has all the subtlety of a bullhorn when asking why you did a seemingly normal thing… He’s not mean or anything about it, as he’s just genuinely curious about why humans do certain things he doesn't. Scar is if anything a really fun person to talk to as you can tell that he’s intelligent and more than happy to nerd out about something with you… It’s why he became a college biology/medical professor in the first place.
You can also tell that Scarificator wants to help people and would much rather forget about some of the less than great things he did when he was younger, and just starting out on the process of becoming more civilized.

There is definitely a more animalistic part of Scarificator’s personality along with a much less than savory part that he used to show more of before he got good at repressing it… Now it just shows as a really dark sense of humor that is slightly concerning but doesn't cause any harm.

Background: No y’all getting this as it’s actually pretty interesting.
Scarificator’s early life was pretty normal for his kind, being a more wild and intelligent predator… Learning human speech from preying on them.
What got his curiosity towards humans started was an incident when he was 15-16 where he was originally going to eat a pair of humans he found near a woodland path, drawn in by the scent of blood from a wound. Only to see the other person tie a cloth around the injury. So instead of attacking the humans, Scar came out and in a rather blunt fashion (due to having limited vocabulary) started to ask questions about why someone would wrap a wound and why you’d help a ‘hopeless’ case. He got a few answers and had to ask what a few things meant before instead of eating the pair he tore off the tourniquet and licked the wound to encourage it to heal and left the humans alone for the rest of the night.
This started a year or two long quest for Scarificator to try and not only expand his vocabulary of human words, but to also figure out how to look more like one to learn more about them… And secretly have easier access to prey. It was a terrifying time to be a traveler in his locale as he’d randomly roll up on people and start talking, sometimes eating them, usually for not responding.
When Scar was about 17, he finally got the ear of a mage that was willing to teach him how to do a minor shapeshifting spell and a few glamours along with it. With this knowledge and a much wider vocabulary he ran off to the nearest human settlement and approached the local healer… This is also how he got his name, as he was incredibly curious about each tool, but one in particular had quite a bit of his attention due to the smell of blood that clung to it. Scar asked what it was called and decided he liked the object and the word thus named himself for it, Scarificator sure the healer thought he was weird as all hell but accepted it since it seemed pretty harmless. Scarificator proceeded to learn more about medicine from the healer while also doing a few underhanded things, mostly in the form of being slightly too thrilled about bloodletting and overusing it a bit, but due to the time it wasn’t really noticed. During this time Scar learned a bit of nature magic, in the form of plant growth, to help with the creation of more herbal remedies.
For a few years he did fine as the healer’s assistant, but it started to become abundantly clear that Scarificator was going to outlive his ‘mentor’ and he was a little freaked out when he saw the sort of pain and suffering a 80 year old human had… And from his perspective Scar thought he was doing the old man an act of kindness when he drained him during the night, as it seemed more humane to end the suffering quicker. This however left him feeling more guilty and horrible than like he’d done anybody a favor… Yet Scarificator’s mind didn’t really know how to process grief properly due to it not really being a thing his species did yet being aware of human emotions at the same time. This caused him to within hours of committing a murder for the first time in a few years, proceed to do an autopsy on the body to try and figure out why his former human friend had been in pain… Only to find nothing that was easily identifiable as the cause for pain since Scar didn’t know about things like arthritis or joint pains due to the time period and not being able to experience such things himself.
Within the same day, Scarificator was forced to flee from the town as he was caught trying to bury the body. The only thing he took with him was the scarificator that inspired his name, more as a keepsake really.
For quite a while Scar bounced between towns, usually being a more questionable doctor at worst and a decent one at best, as he was trying to improve and learn more, he even took up biology to try and understand humans a bit better, to prevent another tragic misunderstanding from happening again. Scarificator started picking up on random bits of magic here and there, doing a little in his spare time, when he wasn’t lurking around colleges to stealthily listen to lessons or seeing if he could just act like he went there to get in for free… As he couldn’t afford the pay… Or trying to help the sick and injured the best he could.
One of the more notable things for this span of time is that Scarificator helped out during both the world wars (Allies) and even helped with the Spanish flu outbreak that happened between them, and saw some sh-t man… As the wars confused him at first, then scared him with how horrible humans could be to each other, Scar was only a medic both times and had to kill just to protect others.
Not long after the the wars died down, Scar moved to america and due to becoming more ‘professional’ due to being enlisted in two wars and helping during a pandemic, had the funds to pay for a college education that was more or less just him paying to get a diploma in things he mostly knew already, but he did use it to become a biology teacher and eventually teach medicine as well.
Scarificator started out teaching middle school science and worked his way up to being a college professor over the course of a few years and becoming one of the oldest professors there, due to the fact that at this point, nobody is really certain how long he has been there and they’re afraid to ask at this point.
He’s pretty well liked among those who have had him as a teacher, be it a biology subject or a medical one, as he has tons of weird stories and is more than willing to do something just out of pure curiosity.

Tbh probably what got him to stop pretending to be a human so much and go teach at Clayton was that he didn’t want to violently reveal what he was if the Templar rolled up or to feel responsible if anyone that wasn’t involved got hurt.

For a bit of extra context, the last time Scar killed someone was over spring break at his former college, he’d gotten found out by a Templar/Inquisition (vamp hunters) merger over the course of the year and they chose to strike when he went out hunting in the on campus woods. They sent a small kill team after him, but the hunters failed to discover that Scarificator was more than just your average vamp. He didn’t even truly shift to easily and quite brutally devour the Templar/Inquisition agents, making a mess out of his kills more out of the sheer offense of being attacked on his home turf if you will. Scar hid the bodies when he was done playing with the last survivor to send a message… And eating more flesh than usual to further drive the point home that he isn’t to be f-cked with.
While yes, Scarificator did enjoy his meal of fresh human blood, still warmed by body heat… It also meant that he couldn’t really stay since the attacks wouldn’t stop and Scar didn’t want to be the reason a student was scarred for life or hurt. So he dug through some older job offers he’d gotten and found Clayton and took them up on the offer after doing a bit of explaining…

  • Fun fact: Scar has stepped on a land mine twice, the first time was because he didn’t know what to look for back in WWI, took off a good chunk of his leg and ironically was the reason more of the soldiers he shared a trench with survived… Because Scar got hungry and made the risky run over to the opposing trench and kinda ate everyone… Second time was in WWII and Scar was trying to both grab someone and not die, so he shifted to do that and could see the anti-tank mine yet couldn’t do much to not bring his back leg down on it without risking more meaningful harm. Again he did later hunt enemy soldiers in human form to prevent a massive breach in secrecy that a Blood Wyvern doing it would be
  • Hmmm… I really don't know what this man's favorite song would be other than it being some obscure old thing that never got published as he uh… ate the musician before anything could come of it. Moral of the story, don't draw the attention of a hungry man-eating predator at night.

  • Scar has legit teaching certifications and formerly taught at a normal college until this year really

  • While Scarificator may not really feed on humans anymore, he’d be more than happy to give you a quick reminder that he is a Blood Wyvern at the end of the day if he saw a like full blown Templar agent that wasn’t like a child… As in he’d rather violently devour them since he really does hate them
  • If he ends up getting dragged into yet another war… Scar will give you a rant about how he’s done his dues before promptly helping himself to the blood of his new enemies
  • He cannot have small animals such as mice/rats/rabbits/birds as pets for very long before he’ll inevitably eat them or feed them to one of his reptiles… Cats and dogs are usually fine as when an animal is more friendly with him he won’t eat it, and reptiles tend to get left alone due to him being a wyvern at the end of the day, fish he just plain hates the way they feel in his mouth when trying to feed on them

But, the act of regenerating causes him to get hungry/thirsty (in proportion to the wound) and that would be fine and all, but it's blood that he needs to facilitate proper regen. The reasoning is that to heal at the rate he does, his metabolism speeds up to meet the demands of his regeneration. The kind of blood consumed doesn't matter, as it would be a pain for him if he was blood type locked. Fun lil thing, if Lance kills you in a vampiric fashion (draining, heart eating) he will know what your final thoughts are and be able to get a bit of a summary of your life if he tries to a few seconds after he kills you. The thoughts you had closer to death being the easiest for him to get ahold of. [*][b]Shadow Manipulation:[/b] Lance can make shadows move in unnatural ways, create shapes/things with them, and most notably get shadows to behave like oobleck. Oobleck is that stuff that is both solid and liquid depending on what you do to it. Lance can temporarily make shadows solid but cannot make it retain that quality for very long before it starts behaving more like oobleck again. This means his creations often have a weird movement to them unless he’s using it for something (ie: a blade becoming solid as he strikes with it). Lance can also control the possibility of his creations to make it so that the shadow object would pass through you harmlessly. (ie: ‘stabbing’ you in the heart with a shadow and all you feel is a slight shiver as he made it harmless)... Yes Lance can take hold of the shadows in your body and do some real freaky stuff, that is probably quite painful, but he’d rather not as it’s harder to do… And it feels wrong to him to just do that to somebody unless they did something like that to him first. Lance’s shadow manipulation often responds to his emotions/intentions subconsciously, meaning that his shadow often moves and twitches or he might create shards in a moment of irritation without meaning to. There is a secondary major part of Lance’s shadow manipulation that is the ability to hide within a shadow of a similar size or bigger to him and move between two shadows by ‘Shadow Melding’. Lance cannot be harmed normally while in a shadow and can only interact via shadow manipulation likewise. He CAN be pinned in place by standing on the shadow he’s currently in or forced out with enough light. Lance is limited in shadow hopping by either what he can see or by his memory of how the shadows fall in a place. If Lance is in a shadow of similar size to himself, there is a slight tell that he’s there… The shadow will become darker and more well defined. -Lance has a very weak form of ‘mind reading’ if you’d even call it that. Lance must be touching shadows with you and this can be accomplished by a dark area mind you, but at most Lance can just sense that there is a mind, the rough location of it, and your mood/foremost thought. By that I mean he can tell if it’s internal screaming or you’re planning something. Lance cannot gather any sort of coherent words from this so your secrets are 100% safe. Due to the fact his sister has more mind based powers, Lance naturally learned to hide some of his thoughts from her. To a mind reader his obscured thoughts feel like a thick shadow is covering them. It’s not perfect nor is it always active in Lance’s mind either… [*][b]Blood Wyvern shift:[/b] He can take the form of a flightless wyvern-like creature that is about 20ft long and can climb up any surface due to gecko-like feet. While in this form he is much faster and stronger, but also more sensitive to light and can easily slip into a feral state of mind. He can do partial shifting and has permanent retractable claws because of this. If fully shifted, Lance can breathe out frigid purplish-black flames (like compare it to touching dry ice/liquid nitrogen) [Note that Lance hasn’t really figured out that he can fully shift at the moment] [img]https://i.imgur.com/ZeiH6se.png[/img] -He's overall a bit faster and stealthier than the average human, and has better eyesight in the dark due to being nocturnally inclined and having eye shine. Lance has an above average sense of smell and is very sensitive to the smell of blood. His blood type is a little funny as he was born O- but, depending on if the blood he drank is positive or negative, his will change to match that. His saliva is kinda cool in that it's antibacterial and has very weak healing properties (the most it can do is close up a bite he inflicted) BUT is also a very powerful anticoagulant since he is vampiric after all and that quality is beneficial in that regard. One other thing here is that Lance can swallow things whole, but is unable to digest certain things… Meaning he can cough up pellets like owls/birds of prey do, Lance’s pellets are just like those in every way and usually of a size that can be put in a pocket and not be awkward. Kinda needs to cough one up every once in a while to prevent intestinal problems as there’s more to the pellet than it being the indigestible parts. I googled it. He’s also got a nice bit of sarcasm and is a fan of cracking weird jokes that have a slightly dark undertone to them. Lance is a theater kid and that means that yes he’s weird, and fully aware of it and cannot be shamed by it in any way. Towards other people he’s rather open and willing to let you talk about your problems with him, but won’t force you to either as that’s not cool. But, do know that he’s not just a weird slightly over friendly theater kid no matter what. You mess with the things he cares about and Lance will end you… For real in one AU Lance killed his father just because his dad hurt his sister (this was an abuse situation for clarification and is not the overarching cannon… But makes for a great example of how much Lance cares!) [i][color=darkred]As for the feral side it seems to be a bit darker, like probably came up with five ways to kill you… And for the most part is fairly passive in terms of how often it tries to take over. It’s the more feral and instinctive side, usually only sparking up mental arguments and only coming out verbally if Lance is entering a feral state of mind. The thing is, this is Lance’s survival instinct at its core and it has only one goal in a full take over: Survive. That usually means killing/harming to feed…[/color][/i] There is a third facet to his personality that will come out. It’s what I’m going to refer to as the insatiable side of things. And this side is a bit similar to the feral side, only the difference is that you can actually reason with him while like this. And the thing is this side is hard to predict when it’s going to pop out, and there’s no real visual indicator of it either. But, basically what it is his underlying desire for blood becoming more prominent. Like you could get bitten if you aren’t careful, but for the most part are just going to get treated to some of the most morbid conversations ever. And this can leave just as quickly as it came or last an hour or two. The only times you can be sure he won’t flick into this is if he has drank a significant amount of blood within the past two~three hours. Lance is pretty good at just ignoring it by this point in his life… But finds it mildly annoying when trying not to creep people out. [b]Background[/b]: I’m working on a google doc of this, to be brief, here’s a quick run down. Upon recovering from the turning process, Lance has three members of a vampire slaying group known as the Inquisition around him. The one named Marshall didn’t want to kill Lance while the other two did, one guy accidentally shoots Marsh. This triggers a chain reaction of sorts where Lance managed to spare Marshall but drained the other two. Lance let Marsh use his car, riding in the passenger seat himself, to get to the hospital. Lance stayed in the car to avoid killing someone again, yet gave Marshall instructions to try and get his uncle Luther to come out. Lance ended up staying with his aunt and uncle for a while after this, and making friends with Marshall unironically…. While he did go see his parents not long after the incident happened, he wasn’t really all that truthful about what really happened either. Lance and Luther made the decision to enroll him at Clayton so that the lag year in his education could be made up while also providing a bit more protection from organizations like the Templar or Inquisition. [i]Other[/i]: [list] [*]Yes Lance is being funded by his uncle to go to Clayton, and it’s not that weird as Luther is a surgeon and that is a high paying job [*]For those of you who have encountered Luther, yes it is him in full, for those who haven’t… He’s Lance’s vampiric uncle, and works as a surgeon [s]and the observant will catch that I said aunt as well, meaning Aida lives[/s] [*]His parents totally suspect he’s vampiric, but neither party is going to be the one to admit it at the moment… Tho they are planning on moving and enrolling Shadis (Lance’s little sister) in Clayton next year [*]Lance has only killed 3 people and tbh number three was an overly ambitious Templar [*]Has a weird love hate relationship with his abilities [*]Will deffo become more comfortable with himself as time goes on and get a weird sense of humor [*]There's a ton of odd details about him, like getting warmer after drinking blood and that he sheds scales horribly. Powers:
  • Vampiric Regeneration: Lance's regeneration is always active, even if just healing off dead cells. But, the act of regenerating causes him to get hungry/thirsty (in proportion to the wound) and that would be fine and all, but it's blood that he needs to facilitate proper regen. The reasoning is that to heal at the rate he does, his metabolism speeds up to meet the demands of his regeneration. The kind of blood consumed doesn't matter, as it would be a pain for him if he was blood type locked. Fun lil thing, if Lance kills you in a vampiric fashion (draining, heart eating) he will know what your final thoughts are and be able to get a bit of a summary of your life if he tries to a few seconds after he kills you. The thoughts you had closer to death being the easiest for him to get ahold of.
  • Shadow Manipulation: Lance can make shadows move in unnatural ways, create shapes/things with them, and most notably get shadows to behave like oobleck. Oobleck is that stuff that is both solid and liquid depending on what you do to it. Lance can temporarily make shadows solid but cannot make it retain that quality for very long before it starts behaving more like oobleck again. This means his creations often have a weird movement to them unless he’s using it for something (ie: a blade becoming solid as he strikes with it). Lance can also control the possibility of his creations to make it so that the shadow object would pass through you harmlessly. (ie: ‘stabbing’ you in the heart with a shadow and all you feel is a slight shiver as he made it harmless)... Yes Lance can take hold of the shadows in your body and do some real freaky stuff, that is probably quite painful, but he’d rather not as it’s harder to do… And it feels wrong to him to just do that to somebody unless they did something like that to him first. Lance’s shadow manipulation often responds to his emotions/intentions subconsciously, meaning that his shadow often moves and twitches or he might create shards in a moment of irritation without meaning to.
    There is a secondary major part of Lance’s shadow manipulation that is the ability to hide within a shadow of a similar size or bigger to him and move between two shadows by ‘Shadow Melding’. Lance cannot be harmed normally while in a shadow and can only interact via shadow manipulation likewise. He CAN be pinned in place by standing on the shadow he’s currently in or forced out with enough light. Lance is limited in shadow hopping by either what he can see or by his memory of how the shadows fall in a place. If Lance is in a shadow of similar size to himself, there is a slight tell that he’s there… The shadow will become darker and more well defined.
    -Lance has a very weak form of ‘mind reading’ if you’d even call it that. Lance must be touching shadows with you and this can be accomplished by a dark area mind you, but at most Lance can just sense that there is a mind, the rough location of it, and your mood/foremost thought. By that I mean he can tell if it’s internal screaming or you’re planning something. Lance cannot gather any sort of coherent words from this so your secrets are 100% safe. Due to the fact his sister has more mind based powers, Lance naturally learned to hide some of his thoughts from her. To a mind reader his obscured thoughts feel like a thick shadow is covering them. It’s not perfect nor is it always active in Lance’s mind either…
  • Blood Wyvern shift: He can take the form of a flightless wyvern-like creature that is about 20ft long and can climb up any surface due to gecko-like feet. While in this form he is much faster and stronger, but also more sensitive to light and can easily slip into a feral state of mind. He can do partial shifting and has permanent retractable claws because of this. If fully shifted, Lance can breathe out frigid purplish-black flames (like compare it to touching dry ice/liquid nitrogen) [Note that Lance hasn’t really figured out that he can fully shift at the moment]

    -He's overall a bit faster and stealthier than the average human, and has better eyesight in the dark due to being nocturnally inclined and having eye shine. Lance has an above average sense of smell and is very sensitive to the smell of blood. His blood type is a little funny as he was born O- but, depending on if the blood he drank is positive or negative, his will change to match that. His saliva is kinda cool in that it's antibacterial and has very weak healing properties (the most it can do is close up a bite he inflicted) BUT is also a very powerful anticoagulant since he is vampiric after all and that quality is beneficial in that regard. One other thing here is that Lance can swallow things whole, but is unable to digest certain things… Meaning he can cough up pellets like owls/birds of prey do, Lance’s pellets are just like those in every way and usually of a size that can be put in a pocket and not be awkward. Kinda needs to cough one up every once in a while to prevent intestinal problems as there’s more to the pellet than it being the indigestible parts. I googled it.

Personality: Lance is rather calm and laid back most of the time, and friendly towards just about anyone. He’s also got a nice bit of sarcasm and is a fan of cracking weird jokes that have a slightly dark undertone to them. Lance is a theater kid and that means that yes he’s weird, and fully aware of it and cannot be shamed by it in any way. Towards other people he’s rather open and willing to let you talk about your problems with him, but won’t force you to either as that’s not cool. But, do know that he’s not just a weird slightly over friendly theater kid no matter what. You mess with the things he cares about and Lance will end you… For real in one AU Lance killed his father just because his dad hurt his sister (this was an abuse situation for clarification and is not the overarching cannon… But makes for a great example of how much Lance cares!)

As for the feral side it seems to be a bit darker, like probably came up with five ways to kill you… And for the most part is fairly passive in terms of how often it tries to take over. It’s the more feral and instinctive side, usually only sparking up mental arguments and only coming out verbally if Lance is entering a feral state of mind. The thing is, this is Lance’s survival instinct at its core and it has only one goal in a full take over: Survive. That usually means killing/harming to feed…

There is a third facet to his personality that will come out. It’s what I’m going to refer to as the insatiable side of things. And this side is a bit similar to the feral side, only the difference is that you can actually reason with him while like this. And the thing is this side is hard to predict when it’s going to pop out, and there’s no real visual indicator of it either. But, basically what it is his underlying desire for blood becoming more prominent. Like you could get bitten if you aren’t careful, but for the most part are just going to get treated to some of the most morbid conversations ever. And this can leave just as quickly as it came or last an hour or two. The only times you can be sure he won’t flick into this is if he has drank a significant amount of blood within the past two~three hours. Lance is pretty good at just ignoring it by this point in his life… But finds it mildly annoying when trying not to creep people out.

Background: I’m working on a google doc of this, to be brief, here’s a quick run down. Hither is the doc
Lance got turned not long after he turned 18 (early september) by a random Blood Wyvern after he went out to practice with his shadow manipulation in the woods one night.
Upon recovering from the turning process, Lance has three members of a vampire slaying group known as the Inquisition around him. The one named Marshall didn’t want to kill Lance while the other two did, one guy accidentally shoots Marsh. This triggers a chain reaction of sorts where Lance managed to spare Marshall but drained the other two.
Lance let Marsh use his car, riding in the passenger seat himself, to get to the hospital. Lance stayed in the car to avoid killing someone again, yet gave Marshall instructions to try and get his uncle Luther to come out.
Lance ended up staying with his aunt and uncle for a while after this, and making friends with Marshall unironically…. While he did go see his parents not long after the incident happened, he wasn’t really all that truthful about what really happened either.

Lance and Luther made the decision to enroll him at Clayton so that the lag year in his education could be made up while also providing a bit more protection from organizations like the Templar or Inquisition.

Other:
  • Yes Lance is being funded by his uncle to go to Clayton, and it’s not that weird as Luther is a surgeon and that is a high paying job
  • For those of you who have encountered Luther, yes it is him in full, for those who haven’t… He’s Lance’s vampiric uncle, and works as a surgeon and the observant will catch that I said aunt as well, meaning Aida lives
  • His parents totally suspect he’s vampiric, but neither party is going to be the one to admit it at the moment… Tho they are planning on moving and enrolling Shadis (Lance’s little sister) in Clayton next year
  • Lance has only killed 3 people and tbh number three was an overly ambitious Templar
  • Has a weird love hate relationship with his abilities
  • Will deffo become more comfortable with himself as time goes on and get a weird sense of humor
  • There's a ton of odd details about him, like getting warmer after drinking blood and that he sheds scales horribly.
  • His purr and growl are almost identical and sound scary
  • Is nocturnal, but also understands that most people want to do things during the day and thus committed to going days without sleep/much sleep. His record is a week and on day seven he just passed out and became creepy as his heart would just stop every so often and he basically slept the entire day. Lives off coffee
  • Just a fun fact: His blood drinking is a bit dual purposed, about 80% of what he's after is the actual nutritional value in blood (as that's how your body moves it around) as for the other 20% its the bit of magic held in there that every living creature has a bit of (if that makes sense). Therefore, anything that would drain magic would have the effect of making him thirsty/hungry quicker
  • Closest thing to fav song: Crescent's Theme - Pokemon Rejuvenation (Okay that's just one of mine currently)
  • Likes to write in a small notebook, also does ink drawings in it
  • Carries a flask with him all the time, won't tell you what's in it either other than it's not alcohol and will be disgusted if you accuse him of such
