One dragon in her clan is a superstitious fellow who believed that praying to a deity would grant them the favor of the gods. He always kept a stash of deity statue familiars in hopes that he would one day be exalted and serve a deity as not just a regular dragon, but one with the highest honors of any exalted dragon. The coatl decided she would set a statue replica of the fire deity on fire and see how he reacted. It was rather easy to gain access to his sacred room of deities, which remained vacant for the moment. She carefully aligned a (stolen from the clan stash) Poryphry Flamecaller so that it was in the centre of the room, and set it on fire!! Said dragon came in a while later and gawked at the burning statue, dropping his pile of elemental books. "I knew it!!! I knew the day would come at last. The deity of Fire has responded to my request, and has visited me in my humble home." He bowed reverently to the statue. "Mistress, allow me to serve you..." His prayings and mumblings continued until nightfall, when other dragons in the clan complained about the smell from the smoke. A group of them found the source and put out the fire to many protests from the devout dragon.

Jinx just caught it - thank the Windsinger for quick Spiral reflexes - but the sudden action had extinguished a flame that had been lit and fed with some sort of oil inside.

Set fire to an effigy of the Flamecaller, eh?

Jinx put the statue back on its pedestal - backward, of course, for at least a tiny bit of poltergeist-y flair - and clicked the firestarter at the hollowed-out holes on the statue's neck. The flames leaped to life quickly, and burned as steadily as ever.

Day 4 - Wednesday

This calls for a return to the attic. Surely there will be something up there to burn. Alexandrae plays a game of hot and cold for some time, rummaging in crates and tossing through piles of blankets and old apparel. Ghost flame tail jewel? Umberhoof hide? Some chunks of cracked amber... By the time she finds what she's looking for the place is a disaster. Good thing no one will know who made the mess! Does this count as vandalism, or breaking and entering? Whatever.

She considers the two items she's found. The terracotta flamecaller figurine is the most accurate representation, surely something you want in an effigy. But considering what she's seen at the clan's pottery... this thing has surely already been through intense flame. The stuffed dolly it is! Now to find somewhere to ignite it.

Leaving the flammable confines of the attic she heads outside to find a stony area without too many exposed roots to carry the smoulders into the surrounding forest. Right, now where did that firestarter go? She realizes far too late she's lost it somewhere in the jumble of the attic. A second challenge then.

She's drifting along the woodsy paths when she starts to smell something smokey. There's an odd aroma, old charcoal and hot dust, combined with something more disturbing. Turning a bend she realizes where she is. Ahead lies the shrine of the Saint of Flame, that horrible charred creature whose relic lies interred in the hollowed out stump of a lightning struck ancient tree.

AHA! Drifting in on her ghostly wings she manages to just catch the tip of the puppet's tail alight on the flames of the Saint's halo. Quickly she darts out and drops the burning creation on the nearest patch of bare earth. Phew!

Nothing sticks out, but then she gets an idea! They are farmers. Well most of her clan members are, not Toothbrush, but she has seen the funny-looking scarecrows that have been placed in the fields. Surely they don't need all of them. One wouldn't be missed. She'll pick the plainest looking one, decorate it in some Red Linen Fabric Scrap, and tie them with Scarlet Yuccaweave. Give it a red firey flair! ---- Once the 'effigy' is complete. She almost feels bad for setting it on fire with the Firestarter. It looked pretty nice. Well she has got nothing else to do, perhaps she'll spend the day decorating more scarecrows.

She hadn't spent enough time at that basket-weaving lesson to be able to make her own effigy, the Mirror reckoned. It had to be something as big as a deity too. Maybe a lot of rocks could make up with body with sticks set on fire for the eyes and claws? Moving that many rocks would be a lot of work on her own though. What about lots of candles? Candles Nine could handle. The Mirror snuck into chandlers, unsafe libraries and other places fond of the candle aesthetic and stole as many as she could. The spot Nine chose was more ruin and mud than forest. You had to pick your spot carefully otherwise arson could turn into a very big crime indeed. Nine shuddered at the thought. One of the Stanzascale clan was a Wildclaw artist whose life's work had been lost to fire before he came to the clan. He relied on glowshrooms to keep his room lit, forbidding anyone from entering with fire. Nine had trouble making the candles not fall over, and decided to try using mud to help them stick, with mixed results. Eventually she had the candles roughly Flamecaller-shaped...well, roughly dragon-shaped anyway. The Mirror glided about the construction with a firestarter, lighting every candle. Nine offered to take in her work, and then floated into the head and gave a roar, her ghostly not-breath sending the head's candles flaring. Nine grinnned. Surely it was only a matter of time before someone came to investigate. The Mirror planned to scare someone with her next roar, completely forgetting about the need for ghosts to be sneaky.

No, he thought. He wasn't going to make an effigy.

He thought to light one of those ugly plushies on fire, but someone else (@Doozie) had already thought of it, and the only thing he hated more than doing art was being unoriginal.

So, he thought about the vague shape of the Flamecaller. He could throw some twigs down and call that a body. Throw some cracked leather on top of that and call that wings. And then it just needed a head. A sparrow skull.

Lots of students practiced odd spells around here, though, so it likely wasn't immediately tied to spirits haunting the city. It was funny to see everyone dodging drakes, though, as if they were still corporeal. Soon enough they'd made it around to the back entrance to the Limbo couple's "tavern" in Sailuma proper. The group worked together to set them all up, smiling as they put the largest in the center of a ring of nine. Then they got another idea. With a bit of searching, they found more special items the pair had made in honor of the Eleven, including an even larger Flamecaller statue. They set the first ten around in a circle, lighting them up with the firestarters and lanterns. They put the other members of the Eleven in between each one, leaving them be. Then they put the largest Flamecaller statue in the center, put the rest of the twigs underneath it in a nest, and lit it up like a bonfire with the remaining starters. Raphael has just started to wonder if he could use his wisps to add more flair when they all hear the couple heading back towards them. They dart to some of the darker corners in the back to hide, watching to see how they'd react. They didn't expect the smaller Pearlcatcher to decide it was far too dangerous for his Fireflight born Imperial partner. They especially didn't expect him to race off to get water to put it all out, asking how in the Eleven their Flamecaller statues decided to truly embrace her fire by literally lighting themselves on fire. The group were all cackling by the time the two had managed to calm down, with Kamilla telling her smaller companion that it was all fine. She wouldn't burn easily, if at all, due to her element. This was fine. If anything, it was a blessing, in a way. And it had been contained to such a small area too! Weren't they lucky? Then a comment from the Pearlcatcher caused the group to stop laughing in their tracks. This is really escalating. First it was petty theft and now they're onto arson. She really is not looking forward to tomorrow's task. At least the ghost suggested that they burn a memorial to the Flamecaller; she figures that any fire dragon she talked to wouldn't count that as a crime. One point for her conscience. Delta doesn't exactly know where to get a Flamecaller statue, so she's in luck when she finds a stand selling deity statues in a nearby Crystalline Gala marketplace. She feels bad stealing one but it's not like she can stroll up with her ghostly visage and hand over some currency. When the shopkeeper isn't looking, Delta swiftly snatches up the figure and swoops off. On an isolated mountaintop nearby, Delta sets the statue down. Best to do this in the middle of nowhere to draw as little attention as possible. She doesn't want to give those Icewarden patrols any clues. Delta grabs a few firestarters out of her pouch that she always carries with her in case of emergency. Well, she supposes that this counts as one.
