Murasaki and her fellow crown-bearers worked together valiantly to secure the citizens of Hewn City, finding it easy to sway a large portion of the population with their combined influence. After much comforting and corralling, Mura was finally able to take a breather and reconvened with the other two escorts. But their crowns! They were gone! Not only that, they told her that her crown was missing too!

Drat. It must have been that conniving Pearlcatcher, Lachlan! I knew I felt her presence in the crowd of evacuees! She must have swiped it then!

But that was neither here nor there. She and her noble companions succeeded in what they set out to do, and that was what mattered most.

DAILY QUESTION

462190.png ___ "My answer for this is simple and sweet, as its something I constantly remind my lieutenant about: Leaders take risks so the others don't have to."

DAY FOUR

Bane had his fair share of fights while residing in Wayfarer's Way, most of which were against Windsinger's own children. Being first loyal to the Arcanist, Bane had to adapt his fighting style to accommodate these windy bursts, so fighting this head was nothing new to him. What was new to him, however, was the intensity of this fight. He hadn't known what to expect, but his tiny inklings of Luminax's strength was nothing compared to this.

He scratched and dodged, coasting with the wind rather than against it. With a dull spark recognition, Bane registered the tactics similar to those of WindVictory's and Atzel's.

Must be a wind thing, he thought grimly.

Still, despite, his careful maneuvers, he found himself wearing out. After another burst of wind energy, a cry sounded to his right. A flurry of wings and scales followed after, and a dragon he didn't know fell to the ground. Bane stopped his flurry of attacks for a single second to observe. Luminax stilled for a moment, and the obelisk immediately knew something was wrong.

He watched as the head braced itself. Wind magic swirled around her. And released.

"Windsinger!" He cried, the name of the deity, his resurrector and purpose, releasing in a guttural roar. Bane didn't think any further. He dove, not for the dragon on the ground, but for the eye of the beast. If she even thought about devouring the victim, then he would provide as a distraction until the other warrior was safe.

Should a leader take risks, or should a leader play it safe in order to protect his or her team? Why?

Depends on the situation. Taking risks isn't always the best course of action. What the leader does can cause disarray and if that happens, they'll have to deal with what everyone else thinks. Playing it safe all the time can be seen as cowardly

Zicatela leapt for him, grabbing his sizzling shoulder plate and hurriedly prying it off with her jaws, not a care in the world for how hot it was, she just had to get it off him before it melted away his flesh. She nudged him back to his feet, sheltering him with her wings before realizing a green aura of healing magic around him. She looked up to see a fae which she recalled from the first day was named Missing (@shoydragon). She gave a small roar in thanks before nudging the injured dragon off of the battlefield while the Regeneration magic healed him. She was about to jump back into the fray when she heard a cry. She looked over to a pile of bones and beneath it was a tiny guardian hatchling. Zicatela froze, this tiny hatchling was a warm gold that reflected the light flight. The poor thing was sobbing and looked like the life was frightened out of it, Zicatela thought of Nissi, and in that moment made a b-line for the displaced child. She pushed away the bones and gently grabbed the hatchling in her maw, much like a lioness would carry her cub, and began to run from the battlefield. She didn't make it very far though, a fireball landing in her path and making her divert her course, right into another injured dragon, this one a foolish young imperial that had come to fight with the rest of the Sunbeam guards. She tried to nudge him to get up, but he was bleeding heavily. She tucked the hatchling on her shoulder before shrieking loudly, trying to get anyone's attention to come and help. However, such noise got the attention of Luminax. The fire bearing head stared down on Zicatela. She looked back up at him, their eyes meeting, and she realized that he had no intention of letting her find help. He charged the very infernos of Hell in his throat. Zicatela's eyes darted around, and in that instant she finally spotted a watersource, a creek that ran nearby. Her rune markings began to glow lightly, and she called to the water. Luminax let forth his fury as Zicatela drew water around herself and the two dragons she desperately wanted to protect as a way of shielding them all. As I´m about to conclude the speech, some dragons cheering, while others giving me wary eyes, whispering warnings against invoking divine ire; one more direct question reaches my ears.

"The hardest part about being a leader, you say? Well..." I shift a bit, rose tangles digging into my wing bones. My time has come. If I don´t say it now, I´ll be betraying the principles I´ve come to hold dear. If I don´t say it outright, my entire participation here will have been pointless.

The pressure in my throat returns in full; nacre gathers in my mouth. Raising a claw in an excuse-me gesture, I take my pearl out of the pouch at my belt and cover it with the impressions and memories, hopes and fears that I´ve gathered since arrival. The new layer is thick and takes a long minute to solidify; I´d been holding it off for way past what was due.

The audience subjected to my inconvenience watches with knowing understanding for the most part or looks away politely, some of my breed fellows glance at their own pearls. A few elders´ whiskers, though, twitch in disgust. I can almost hear their evening gossip already. ´Here, in public? In the midst of her speech, such inconsiderate timing!´

Magnus´s impatient pirhouette in the corner of my vision brings me back from the depth of toughts. I clear my throat of nacre residue.

"What I´m proposing is a... a rule of the community - by ourselves, for ourselves, and over nobody else but ourselves. And no, I´m not talking about the Tea Party´s plans to establish a parliament we would elect every now and then, and after that be only the subjects to its decisions; with nothing further to do than to hold high hopes for the parliamen´t good judgment, lack of corruption, and abundance of - yes, integrity. If only it were that easy and foolproof... No, what we need is-"

A deafening roar cuts me off mid-sentence. A royal soldier rushes to us, bringing bad news.

An Emperor?! I meet Hypno in a subconscious glance. They close their eyes, no expression discernible in their face.

The fellow participants in the crowd under me begin to splitting into several smaller groups. Some begin ushering civillians into safety while some pull out hidden weapons, raise their spines and sharpen claws. Seems like they´re deciding to fight the beast heads-on. I gather my bearings, jump off of the podium and run after my friends, thorns tearing at my wing membranes with every swifter move. I bite the inside of my cheek, cursing internally.

Without any words needed, Hypno starts unraveling the roses with skilled movements as soon as I reach her, resting her tail on top of mine in a reassuing gesture.

"Ow! Stop, you need to run! Please, I´ll take care of this, the-the thorns myself. You need to be safe and hidden when Emperor reaches us!"

Gemstone does his best to herd dragons, young and old alike, to safer locations. He's lucky he doesn't stumble across anyone with serious injuries, his first aid skills are abysmally nonexistent.

Instead he has to deal with fear and grief. He wishes he could gurantee to the worried families that their loved ones would return safe. He couldn't, of course because he's not a prophet, but he tried his best to lighten the move. He led them to the safe spots, telling what few jokes he could remember and shushing crying children as gently as possible.

"Everything's going to be alright, folks. I'm sure the people fighting the Luminax have things under control," he assured them. "Trust me, there's no better dragons for the job." Was that technically a lie? Probably, he didn't know any of these dragons, but they seemed reliable enough. They were competing for the crown after all!

Gemstone groans when the imperial comes forward. "Of course. Great move, champ. I swear once we're done here you're going to have a lot, and I mean a lot of cleaning up to do. Least you can do is help fix the mess you've made," he grumbles. "I'm going to go make sure no one else is trapped somewhere."

DAILY QUESTION 4
A leader should take risks only when absolutely necessary. Taking unnecessary risks only endangers your cause, and leads to more work in the end. When possible, playing it safe is the best option. When not possible, well, go big or go home.

Mainly by being underfoot and generally annoying with their various animal noises. The red butterfly and the pixies, however, have perched themselves in front of the camera, a butterfly-to-dragon translator module installed into the cameracrew's boom mic. "A leader must be absolutely ruthless. All the risks must be taken everywhere, all the time," the red butterfly said in the deep-bellied baritone of a hardened general, "Sacrifices must be made for the greater good. Some will die. But it must be done." The pixies cheer in adorably sparkly bloodlust. "Shut yer yapperin', we're headin' up to the wind head!" The ferret hissed at the assembled creatures, "We decided it's all clear 'ere and the wind one's the safest fer us t' take on. Come on with you! Let's go!" "Do we have to?" The butterfly grumbled, "I'm fragile." The reply was drowned out as the tea pot and calico cat made a beeline for the nearest dragon with the crown, screeching with steam and feline fury, while the sentient magical mist attempted to wrangle everyone in the general direction of the emperor. Somewhere in the din, a corgi quite lamented the current state of Sornieth: this was why monarchies do not work, and democracies must be instated.

Gild sighed inwardly. He’d never been good with justice. Was the point to be preventative by making an example (but this was such a singular event)? Retributive (why though)? Gild liked the idea of “most benefit”, but how much were the emotions of the wronged dragons worth, and how much was enough, what ensured this dragon would contribute the most to society, free will to grow and change (hadn’t he already though?) or a tight hold with some kind of mandatory community contribution, and again, to what extent, for how long? “You’ve got a friend,” rumbled Castle’s voice in his ear, and Gild looked up to see a guardian approaching, the apparel snapper in tow. “Hello?” Gild asked. The snapper, Lace, I think, was looking a bit rough. “Hello. This one hitched a ride with me after helping with apparel adjustments to help me bring a few extra dragons here. He’s a bit worn out though, and I’ve got a family to get back to. You’ve clearly got some authority,” the guardian paused, “so I’m hoping you can look after him until he recuperates.” “Of course! Tell me if you need anything else.” The guardian nodded and made her way back towards where she had come. A few seconds passed. Lace slowly tilted his head upwards. “Gild? What are you…” “You’re a light dragon, like me?” “Yes?” In the distance, a parent seemed to be looking for their child, but Gild noticed that other contestants seemed to be helping them. “It’s not the same magic that you used for your apparel trick, nice job, by the way, but I could probably do a tiny transfusion right now, if you want. Not enough to let you really do any more of that magic, but it’ll be enough for your brain not to think you’ve magically overexerted yourself and you’ll feel fine until your magic stores actually replenish a bit.” “Nice offer. You sure though? That was a lot of graphics you did on stage at that big speech. And you’ve done this before? I’ve heard of this before, but you’re not exactly a mage or a doctor.” “I’ve got the energy, and the last time I did this was a while back, but I’m sure it’ll work. Not many light dragons where I’ve been the past few years.” We were kids. “Go ahead then. But I’m not in debt to you.” Lace was looking a bit drowsy. “Got it.” Gild placed his claw on Lace’s shoulder, a conduit for the magic, and let a small fraction of his reserves, about the remaining amount he’d taken from his sundrapes, flow in an acceptable form to Lace. Lace brightened almost instantaneously. “Thanks. Oh no, I really hope my store is still okay.” Safe from imminent danger, the dragon now focused on the all-too-likely fact that his livelihood might be ruined. “Sorry, not the most pressing issue right now.” “No, no, keep talking. If you’ve got no one else to look for, tell me about you and your business while I find someone else to help out.” The pair wandered into the crowd, Gild welcoming the flow of comfortable, familiar business terms as he watched for an opportunity to organize this sudden — wow, no war but I guess refugee is the right word — campsite, and waited for things to settle down enough to do that.
