'Iam', she/they*
"Iam" isn't a given name, only a nickname they choose to go by.

The daughter/child of a lightning-native Lightning Farm engineer father, and a nature dragon mother who grew up in Mirrorlight Promenade. Some time after becoming mates, her parents travelled through the land to settle at the mainland side of Reedcleft Ascent.

That's where Iam hatched and grew up, as later did her sister.

Fun-loving and maybe smart, but unfortunately unfocused and scatterbrained, she's quite the airhead. Despite that, she has discovered a knack for languages, out of which she is, at the moment, studying two (if counting her mother tongue) for a future career as a translator scribe, and a few other tongues she studies by herself as a hobby, planning to peruse and practice through many of them in the future. Only Coatl she isn't planning to learn, being too tone-deaf to perceive and use its tonality system properly.

Even more than languages, she loves nature (a trait either inherited, ingrained, or both, from her mother) and taking short evening flights through the Steppes. Strangely enough for a Wind dragon, she doesn't enjoy the constant gusts and howls, and has contemplated moving out when ready, choosing between her mother's childhood lair and the lush lands of the Viridian Labyrinth, leaning towards the former but yearning for the latter.

Her parents, "modern and rational dragons", prefer mundane life and lightning technology to studying their mind powers or the arcane arts. Unlike them, however, Iam has discovered the wonders of magic thanks to her friends from more magically-inclined flights or families, and started to study it and practice spells behind her parents' and sister's backs.

She wishes the land's deities to stop the endless war, so that she could meet, learn from, worship, and work with several of them at once, pledging allegiance to either most or none, but as it stands, there aren't many blasphemies higher than that... If she has to choose only one to devote loyalty to, it has to be either the father of magical studies, Arcanist himself, or the nature element's embodiment, Gladekeeper. Unless...



Iam is a representation of me, an (idealized) "dragonsona" if you will. The backstory is a loose allegory to my life, told through this wonderful game's universe

*(I'm AFAB irl, bigender, and not transfem, unlike my choice of a dragon could possibly suggest.)

Used to have a lore thread dedicated (among other things) to exploring a FR-ified version of how "I" became "we" (see forum sig buttons for what that means), but writing it, I got afraid that in the process of Sornieth-ifying our backstory as clumsily as I was doing it, I'd misrepresent not only our own type of origin, but plurality overall. And so, the backstory is on hold until we figure out how to turn it into lore more properly. (Besides, it was way too awkward. Sincere apologies to anyone who did happen to read the initial attempt.)
