The guard's footfalls fell away down the musty hall. Ribos listened but stayed silent until their heat signature had faded away. The mirror turned to look at the two cells across from him, they never had much time to plot.
"It's been confirmed. The emperor is on the lowest level."
"He'll be heavily guarded." His son, Talamir commented.
"We have inside sources, they'll help." Aravi, his grandson looked at them through the bars of his cell. "All we need is to weaken the bonds... and once they are we'll escape."
"Soraka will regret getting me locked up." Ribos snarled.
"We'll once again rule a pack." Talamir pointed out what he felt was the most important part. He side-eyed Aravi however, as his son had once plotted to take out both of them so he could rule in their place. "But we can't turn on each other."
"You're fools." Kai growled from down the hall, the gaoler's red eyes gleamed in the dull light. "You'll get all of us killed. That beast will consume us all, you'd never make it out alive."
"Tch, we'll be long gone before it can breach this level."
Kai rolled his eyes. Those three mirrors were fools. He'd seen the beast before this prison was built and the gaoler knew there wasn't any way they'd escape if it woke up; the emperor was huge with four heads that would be ready to devour them like insects.
Their conversations fell silent as the guard made his way back down. Kai watched as his adoptive father slowed to send him a look. It'd be so easy would to inform Ulysses of the plan and have those three fools separated; he didn't want to die in this place... Even if he'd been sentenced to rot in this place.
Kai let the opportunity slip through his claws. There was no way those mirrors would succeed with their plan. They might have a few dragons willing to help them escape but it wouldn't be enough to outnumber the real guards, especially when it came to the emperor far below.
Khaadgrim looked up as the newest recruit walked in. "Teon, you're right on time."
Nearby Sugar Meadow stood with a guard watching over two new spiral prisoners. The gaoler motioned for the guard to bring them closer before continuing to adress the young guardian. "These two thieves were captured this morning. As a new recruit, I'm putting you in charge of guarding them as a test. Do well, and you may advance in time to guarding larger threats."
Teon nodded confidently, of course he could contain two measly spirals. They'd be locked up in a cell, it wasn't like there'd be much work. "And I have to advance. I must see my charge is safe."
When he'd first arrived, he'd been shocked his charge had been a criminal, even worse, that his charge was a murderer and had committed several other horrendous crimes as well. But Ribos, no matter how bad, was a dragon he instinctively was compelled to protect. If that meant the mirror wanted to bust out of this place and go on the run... well... Teon would help him.
"Take them to the low security level." Sugar Meadow instructed.
Teon nodded and walked with the other guard to the low-security floor. It wasn't pretty and didn't look much different than any of the other levels he'd been taken too during initial training, but it worked. At least these guys got some sunlight. His charge was, for the most part, always living in darkness.
"Wonder what the lowest level is like." He could only assume it had a good amount of guards. "Wasn't even allowed to see the level where they kept the Shade-touched... Ribos must have a lot of faith in me if I he thinks I can make it to the beast."
What was he thinking? Of course he could! He hadn't left home and traveled this far on his own to fail his charge. He'd be the best guardian there was!
...Even if that meant letting a dangerous... potentially vengeful... dragon escape.... while setting loose a monstrosity that could kill them.
He tried not to worry about the details.
"Let's see..." He took the papers from the guard, scanning over the info gathered about the prisoners. "Fey and Ayla, says you two are sisters, is that right?"
The cool colored spiral, Fey, nodded.
"Great. We'll, get comfortable, because you might be here a while."
Ayla's gaze shifted around, her expression shifting between disgust and worry.
Fey, however, wasn't having any of it. "As if. We'll be escaping in no time."
"We'll see about that." Oh, this was going to be great.
