"They don't look like dragons"

Y'all know dragons don't exist, right. Nothing looks like a dragon. Dragons are made up lmao. A dragon is a fictional construct that can look like anything! That's part of why FR is so cool. There's a lot of different concepts and artistic representations about what a "dragon" is. I think it's great that the art team is allowed to branch out and make some pretty whacky, unconventional dragon designs for their Ancients. That was kind of the point of them! All of our modern breeds have to be standardized thanks to apparel, but Ancients get to be weirdos, like these little fat caterpillar guys.

Looking for: Olive/Watermelon/Cobalt, any Element. Will pay A LOT for it.

I agree! But there are many other aesthetics that these people may have thought or want - common themes brought up previously were angelic (many wings), eldritch (scary, fierce, unnerving), qilin, no wings, alligator-snout, etc. I suppose it's the fact that people think that there is already another bug-like dragon that loves books, so they may have wanted a different theme (and again, everyone have their own aesthetic, preferences, and thus biasness)

There's nothing angelic about either of the other light flight dragons whatsoever. If we'd just got another copy/paste thin, maned dragon like Imps and Pearls I would've been significantly disappointed. You got your angels! They're Auraboas with long, spindly, strange bodies and multiple wings to boot. These guys are actually unique and creative!! Also far more readable in pose than Fathoms to me (especially Fathom F, damn). I love the direction the devs went in with the Everlux. Their disproportionate bodies actually contribute a ton to being on the eldritch side. The mismatching wings to rotund body, crazy jagged jaws, horn and many tiny limbs also makes them feel like a perfect patchwork of features that shouldn't fit. Like, yknow, eldritch creatures have? Not to mention the incredible tertiary genes they have...
sorry i can’t get behind this take. when i (and im assuming a lot of light people complaining) was picturing a new “angel” breed i wasn’t thinking pearlcatcher clone, i mean “biblically accurate angle”. like those freaky circular abominations with lots of wings and eyes. nothing really screams “eldritch horror” about a bug. like one i can find on the ground. (clip)
I really don't have a strong opinion on the breed, but I have to ask: what exactly would a "biblically accurate angel" or "eldritch horror" breed even conceptually look like? The breeds still have to look somewhat draconic. The only thing I can think of that would achieve that seraphim look is a lot of wings; as for eldritch horror, I guess tentacles? Extra wings, eyes and tentacles are terts/eye types that can achieve that look, so it doesn't have to be inherent to the breed. Again, I don't have a horse in this race, and I can understand both sides of being disappointed in the breed or excited about it. I've just seen a lot of people asking for something seraphim-esque or Lovecraftian, but I've never really seen an actual example of what it would look like.
I'm just frustrated that people are crying about them being so ugly and etc like... that's not a bad thing? We have so many pretty breeds. Now we have one that's just a little bit non-standard. It's just frustrating, because these are the same people who got vitriolic with me for wanting the ancients to get a little more out there. Now we have one that's... eh... just a "little" bit out there and here they are, complaining. No actually I think staff should cook instead of giving us the same pretty/cute dragons over and over.
Just to provide a different viewpoint here... I don't play FR for the lore at all. My wants for a breed are always personal, about what I like in a dragon design, not about what's specific to each flight, or hoping for different characteristics to what we've been getting. Which is why I just comment my opinions on a regular discussion thread like this, rather than posting actual feedback to the team or something, because I know my dragon wants aren't realistic to the site's vision and progress.
I love them but I think they'd be absolute peak if they were legless wyrms. The legs they have feel too spindly for it, and it confuses the silhouette for the male pose (& the hatchling's back legs look really weird too!) Like, do you see my vision
god ur so right. i would want a million of these (just extend the belly along the tail and we’re golden)

And there's one singular thread of people who dislike the breed for a variety of reasons, not purely because they think it's "too out there". If you choose to look at that one last thread and moan that 'everyone is complaining about it', it says far more about you than it does about the people in the thread. There's nothing stopping you celebrating with the many people who share your thoughts, instead of generalising and insulting a few people who don't. You're assuming (by your wording) the reason for people disagreeing with your opinion is all the same across the board. Do you even know whan "generalizing" means?

im not here to tell people to like them or not to like them I just wanted to say the spindle legs, while Appearing wrong, actually DO happen in nature with extremely round bodied animals. I think they were going for bug legs which are ofc thin but like, it made me think of chevrotains and let me tell you I had a heart attack when I saw one of these little fellas

The thing that really bothers me is their shape language. In such a small space to work with, especially with how busy some genes are, not providing enough negative space within the pose makes it difficult to determine where anything is. Dragons are known to have very distinct composition lines and flowing shapes, but Everlux are just a blob. Even with their body type, I feel like the official art could have had more negative space incorporated. Males aren't terrible, but the females and hatchlings look especially egregious.

They look like a dragon. Especially the first thing that comes up for people when they think of 'dragon' is either western, eastern, or wyverns. They have a distinct look. These guys don't even hit anywhere near that. They're dragon the same way Avatar's Banshees are. Vaguely there if I was told it was a dragon. I want wacky dragons. My favorite ancients are aberrations who were the first out there breed. No one's asking for full western standardization, it doesn't look like a dragon on this site. It looks like a familiar.
