if one week ago someone said "staff is going to change 1 single letter of a gene and refuse to provide an explanation and the userbase is going to lose their minds about it" i would assume it was a post on some kind of "last night i had a weird fr dream thread". but no this is real it's actually happening this is hysterical

yeah i don't really have any clue why people care so much tbh. I think one person complained and that opened the flood gates for others to share their 'opinion' that literally doesn't matter. so what, they changed one letter? it's a magic dragon pixel game, who cares how a word is spelled?

I agree with the the-straw-that-broke-the-camels-back opinion on this - it's true that it's such a small thing, but there have been quite a number of unpopular [i]large [/i]changes recently so it's not too surprising that people have much more of a hair-trigger towards small inconsequential changes too edit: found the actual post I was thinking about! I would suspect what's going on is far more likely to be a "straw that broke the camel's back" situation- if we hadn't had Fathom F Secondaries and Obbie Flair and apparel sets getting updated in a way that significantly changes them and (I probably could list more but you get the drift), people would just sigh and move on. I think it's a downgrade and kind of a dumb change, since unconventional spellings tend to cause issues, but I'm not mad about it. imo there's bigger and/or better things to critique, such as actual appearance changes mentioned above.

Inconveniencing users for zero benefit or improvement, another among many now

I don't think anybody is actually mad, except maybe people who have trouble reading for any various number of reasons. I'm not mad (I don't even keep ancients), but I do think it's a stupid change and I don't respect the use of non-shandard spellings for accessibility reasons. So if the disrespect comes across as anger, I'm okay with that.

It's the people who say they don't get it that are confusing to me. Like, don't tell me you haven't gotten bent out of shape over an inconvenience. And if you haven't, bless you, but surely you've observed this behavior in any number of humans during your time on earth.

I think people are mostly losing their minds in a good way. since there's been no official explanation, people are coming up with all kinds of theories (incoming gene expansion?? wind ancient???) and it's just fun

also I love people memeing additional gene misspellings

Doesn't bother me bc I don't think it's that big of a deal, only 1 single letter being changed, it's not like the entire gene itself is different.
